Aiden’s POV
I was glad Riley accepted my invitation to dinner. I was thrilled but chose to play it cool and not make it too obvious. I roamed my stare at her, admiring the red dress she wore that hugged every curve elegantly and perfectly. A pang of attraction hit me. “I apologize again for Elena’s behavior; she—” She cut me off, “This is like the fourth time you’ve said this, and I told you, sir, it’s fine,” she said, a smile spreading on her lips. I paused momentarily before saying. "You see, Riley, Elena’s father was my father's driver. They both died in a car accident when I was just born. I've known Elena since we were kids, and I've always felt responsible for her.” Her expression changed to sympathy. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Russell. I had no idea." I nodded, taking a sip of my drink. "Yeah, it was a tough time for all of us. But despite her temper, Elena is incredibly talented. I've tried to ignore her bad behavior as long as she's not too out of control." Riley nodded, “I get it. She’s lucky to have you as a friend.” I smiled, letting out a breath. There was something about her that interested me. The evening went by like a blur, and I had to drive her home, as we stood outside her apartment, Riley turned to me and smiled. "Thank you for tonight, Mr. Russell. I had a great time." I chuckled, “Aiden, call me Aiden, please. I believe we’re past the formalities,” I said. She nodded with a blush that I didn’t miss. God, she was beautiful. After saying our goodbyes, I proceeded to head home. As I reached home, I got a call from Diego with regards to the case. “Aiden, we've hit a snag in the investigation. We need your help to look into Riley's background and see if we can find any clues." He said. My brows furrowed as I rubbed on my temples. I liked her, and I wanted to work on our relationship, but on the other hand, I needed to save my grandfather; he is family after all, and the only one I have left. I took a deep breath, trying to clear my head. "What do you need me to do, Diego?" "We need you to get close to her, Aiden. See if you can find out anything about her past, her family, or anything that might be relevant to the case." I agreed to it, cutting off the call. I felt a pang of guilt; I didn’t want to use Riley, but desperate times. The following day I decided to arrange a business trip with Riley, a perfect opportunity to ask her some case-related questions, so the trip was just an excuse to get closer to her. We arrived in Chicago by 8 pm. We were going to spend a week or so, just enough time to get some answers that could help the case. As we drove to the hotel we would be residing in, Riley cut through the silence. “Aiden, I booked the flight and hotel, but there was only one room left at your hotel, so I reserved another room at a nearby hotel for myself," she said, looking at me with a smile. My face dropped into a scowl, feeling disappointed, but I quickly masked it away. Sharing a room wasn’t a bad idea, but I guess she’d be uncomfortable. God, she’s so innocent. "No problem, Riley. That sounds fine. I'll just meet you at the conference in the morning, then." The next day after the conference meeting, I decided to take her out to spend a little time away from work and to get information from her. We went shopping, and although she was not as picky and materialistic as other girls tend to be, which amazed me, I still forced her to pick a few things. While heading back hotel, I suggested we drop by the bar and get a few drinks. Riley mentioned not taking alcohol only occasionally, but I compelled her to loosen up and have a few cups. Just two cups and she was drunk, barely able to put herself together. As we sipped our drinks, I asked her about her family, trying to make small talk. But as soon as she mentioned her dad, she went silent. I noticed a change in her expression and a sudden sadness in her eyes. “What happened?” I asked, not missing the glint of tears that accumulated at the brim of her eyes. “He... he—“ and then she passed out, her light snores sounding cute to my hearing. I chuckled amusingly, picking her up and heading out to the car. She was asleep, and I didn’t know the hotel she had booked for herself, so I decided to take her to mine. “Aiden…” she whispered as we walked into the room. I put her down, but she immediately fell onto me, her face nuzzling to my neckline, and I could feel her lips on my skin. My dick hardens as my jawline tightens, the effect of the contact making me grunt. God! This woman will be the end of me. The light was turned off and took off her coat. I guided her to the bed and placed her on the left side of the bed, deciding to go find something comfortable for her to put on. But she cut me off, gripping my wrist. “Don’t go.” she said in a low voice. I sucked in a harsh breath, my thoughts running wild at the thought of actually sleeping with her. I let out a breath, taking the other side of the bed while undressing and leaving just my boxers on. As I got on the bed, she snuggled into me, making me more tense and turned on than I already was. The plan was to stay with her till she fell asleep then take the couch while I let her sleep on the bed, but somehow I fell asleep. And the next morning, as I stirred up from sleep I met with Riely’s accusing tear-filled gaze. My brows furrowed, “What? What is it?” I asked in worry. “Did we have sex?”Riely’s POVI slowly opened my eyes, groggily taking in my surroundings. But as my gaze moved across the room, my heart rate began to escalate. Where was I? This wasn't my hotel room. Panic set in. I felt a lump clog in my throat as I thought about how I got here.Yesterday’s event came rushing down like a wave of nostalgia. I remember drinking too much, but after that, nothing seemed clear to me.As I sat up, my head spinning, fuck! Hangover. My sight fell on a figure standing by the window before it dawned on me.It was Aiden. My heart skipped a beat as our eyes met. He was shirtless, his muscular chest on full display. I felt dizzy, my mind racing with questions. What happened last night? Did we... did we do something?Aiden's brows furrowed as he turned fully, giving me a better view of his biceps, and he took a step forward. “You're awake," he said, his voice low and smooth. "Don't worry, nothing happened between us last night."A smirk lingered on his lips, making my cheeks hea
Riely’s POV“What’s wrong?” Aiden asked, snapping me out of my train of thought.I decided to be direct and told Aiden that I received a call from the hospital.“Did they receive the transfer?” He immediately asked. My brows furrowed, taken aback—so he was the one that transferred the money to them? I couldn't hide my surprise.“But… but how?” I couldn’t help but ask.How does he even know about my mom and the hospital bills?Aiden stopped what he was doing and turned to me with a sincere expression. "You got drunk last night and told me that your mother needed surgery," he explained gently. "You were crying and saying that you had no money and your only hope was your monthly allowance."I felt my face heat up with embarrassment. God, how could I be so stupid when I was drunk?! Aiden continued, "I thought we were already friends, and considering you helped me with the contract signing, I decided to pay your salary in advance."I was touched by his kindness. Because of my ex-boyfriend,
Aiden’s POVAs we sat in the car, recalling Diego’s message made me bite back a smile of excitement; I didn’t want to show it because Riley was right next to me.I replied to him, asking him to come to the company when I got back. We needed to have a face-to-face talk.On the way back, Riley received a call from the hospital. Seeing her blank look after hanging up the phone was interesting. I didn't expect her to be so direct, but I think that's what makes her charming.“Look Riley, I am just helping you as a friend. Besides, you were very helpful in signing the contract. If it weren't for your hard work and good professional skills, we might have had to pay more.” I said sincerely. Her lips spread into a smile, “Thank you Aiden, this means a lot though.” A smile tugged on my lips seeing her all excited and grateful.God, Riley! I felt a pang of guilt knowing the sole reason for paying for the bills was because I wanted her to trust me more so I could get useful information more eas
Riley’s POVI stepped into the office, my heart filled with so much contentment and satisfaction; knowing that I didn’t have my mother’s hospital bills to pay felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my chest. And this was all thanks to Aiden. I couldn’t thank him enough; letting out a sigh of relief, a small smile tugged on my lips.As I made my way to my office, Jessica stopped me. "Riley, I would like to have a word,” she said, her tone harsh.I nodded, my brows furrowing, wondering what she wanted to talk about. "Molina told me that your salary was paid in advance?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.I knew Molina was the financial director and Jessica's good friend, so it wasn't surprising that she had told Jessica about this. "Yes," I answered cautiously.Jessica let out a scoff, her expression turning unbelievably, "You're just a new employee who's been working for less than a week. What qualifications do you have to draw your salary in advance? Or is it the boss's trust that m
Riely’s POVWhat a small world! I couldn’t believe that the man I had seen in Aiden's office was now standing in front of me and trying to pick up conversations like we were old friends.I had some doubts about his purpose. Why was he here? And why was he talking to me like we knew each other? There was something about him that just didn’t sit well with me. We exchanged a few meaningless words, chatting about the music and the crowd. But I ran thin on patience. Who was this guy, and what did he want from me?I decided to be direct. "What do you want from me?" I asked, looking him straight in the eye. "I've met you before. You're Aiden's friend, right?"He seemed surprised by my frankness. He was stunned for a moment, and his smile became much more sincere. "I'm so sorry, you recognized me already," he said, chuckling. "Yes, I'm Aiden's friend. We've known each other since we were kids."He paused, taking a sip of his drink. "It's a coincidence that I met you here today. I didn't exp
Aiden’s POVI sat in my office, listening to my secretary's report. He told me about the tasks we needed to complete today. I nodded, taking mental notes. My secretary continued, "This afternoon, we have a board meeting. We'll discuss our business plan for the next quarter."I thought for a moment. This meeting was crucial. I needed to make sure everything went smoothly.I couldn’t afford to make any mistakes, I want everything to work out."Prepare the meeting documents, please," I instructed my secretary. He nodded and left my office. I picked up the phone and dialed a number."Riley, can you come to my office?" I asked.A few minutes later, Riley walked in. She looked professional, wearing a suit and with her hair tied back. I was impressed. She had grown so much in such a short time.I gulped a lump turning my stare away."Riley, I need you to attend the board meeting this afternoon," I told her.Her eyes widened in shock, “Uh… Me?Me? But I'm just an assistant."I smiled. "Yes, bu
Riley’s POVI couldn't believe my luck. I had been preparing a proposal for weeks, but I never thought I'd actually get to present it. Especially in front of the board. But then Aiden told me to present my proposal at the board meeting that afternoon. I was shocked. I sent my proposal to Aiden just in case, and he loved my idea. That gave me some courage and a little bit of confidence. As I sat next to Aiden at the meeting, I took notes on the important points. Aiden was amazing. He spoke with charm and confidence, and the board members listened attentively.Even though they were old enough to be his father, Aiden didn't show any fear or hesitation. He exuded power and dominance.I believed in his ability to lead the company, and I could see the approval in the eyes of the board members. They were fascinated just as I was that was no doubt. When Aiden introduced me to the board, I felt my heart drop nervous crepting in.I was nothing compared to Aiden, I was only just a a fresh gradua
Riley’s POVAfter the meeting, Aiden and I walked back together. Aiden told me to complete the design drawings as soon as possible. We paused at the entrance of his office."The company will set up a new project team as soon as possible," he said.I nodded in affirmation, “Okay Sir.”"Once the design drawings are completed, the new series will be launched immediately." He adds.“Will that be all Sir?” I asked. He nodded, “Yes Riley, you may leave now.”I returned to my desk full of excitement about today's achievements and started my work. I couldn't wait to see my designs come to life.As I proceed to do my work. Suddenly, a glass of water was thrown in my face.I looked up, and it was Jessica again."What's wrong with you?" I asked, wiping the water from my face.Jessica sneered at me. "You think you're so great just because you attended the board meeting?""I didn't choose to attend the meeting," I said calmly. "Aiden asked me to present my proposal and I did, so how is that my fau
Aiden’s POV I don't know why I called Deigo. I didn't really have anything important to talk to him about. I probably just didn't want to see the two of them together. The sight of them together didn’t sit well with me for some reason. Deigo and Riley seemed to be getting along well, and it made me feel uncomfortable. I tried to shake off the feeling, but it lingered. Knowing that they slept together here burned some sort of emotions within me. I cleared my throat snapping out of it before sitting down and asking, “Why were you two together?” He gave me a simple explanation, which made me feel relieved. Deigo has always been a kind-hearted person, otherwise he would not have chosen to be a policeman. It’s not like I don’t trust him for questioning him but I just wanted things to be clear. Besides I didn’t want him getting involved with my assistant. I still feel uncontrollable jealousy when I think of Riley turning to him for help when she is in trouble. I mean I agree I may

Riely’s POVI turned my stare back to Aiden displeased by his question.Who did he think he was? Why was he questioning me? Besides, I didn't do anything. I was the one who was locked up.I should be the one angry and not him, he has no rights.Frustration crept within me it was almost hard to hide it.I decided to ignore these mixed emotions for the time being. I walked out of the room and into the hallway. At this time, my colleagues had already come to work one after another.I turned on the video on my phone and said, "Aiden, this is the surveillance video that Deigo and I found last night."It was time I proved my innocence and ended all of this.Jessica was shocked and tried to snatch my phone, but Aiden stopped her, took my phone, and watched the video in silence.I smirked in satisfaction folding my arms to my chest knowing that there was absolutely no way she was gonna win this time.Aiden asked, "What did Molina do to your computer?""Apparently Riely’s computer was infected
Riley’s POVDiego asked me to try remembering some of the times when I was not at my computer, which would help him quickly find the corresponding surveillance videos.I thought about it and realized that apart from getting off work, I was not at my desk only during lunchtime.Diego quickly called up the surveillance videos of the lunch breaks in the past three days and checked them bit by bit.We sat there for over an hour, watching the videos. I was getting anxious, wondering if we would ever find anything.I wanted us to pick up something, and prove my innocence. Finally, after more than an hour of searching, when it was completely dark outside, Diego finally found something. He asked me to go over and I immediately recognized the person near my desk as Molina. How could it be her?Well of course. After all she’s Jessica’s puppet it has to be her.Jessica is so smart she’s using Molinw as the bait. How pathetic of her.In the surveillance video, Molina inserted a USB drive into my
Riley’s POVI thought of several ways to solve the problem. Confront her directly? No, she would not admit it and I am sure of that, it could even make things worse.Search her office secretly? No, she would not leave the evidence in such an obvious place in the office. I mean Jessica is way smarter than that.Give up the proposal directly? No, I don't want to give up my dream, I’ve worked so hard and come this far the last thing I will do is give up. Besides, Aiden will definitely be disappointed in me.And it wasn’t something I wanted. It seems that I can't solve this case so quickly by myself. But who could help me?The thought of Diego suddenly clicked in my head. He told me that he was a police officer! He must be very good at investigating crimes. This level of case must be a piece of cake for him.Of course he’s my only chance.I called him and he happened to be off work that day. He said he would come over after I got off work and help me check the surveillance to see if there
Riely’s POVI couldn't believe my eyes. My design drawings have all disappeared! How could this happen? I was panicking and shocked. The team members were also whispering, and I seemed to see the mockery in their eyes.I have never felt so stupid in my life.I know my designs were here yesterday, what then happened to them? How could they suddenly vanish?"See? Jessica was right. She confused the boss with her mediocrity," one of them whispered.I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. I looked around the room, hoping someone would come to my defense. But no one did.Tears had already begun to accumulate at the brim of my eyes as I thought of ways to defend myself but none came.I looked to Aiden for some support. Aiden’s brows were furrowed, and his eyes showed disappointment. My heart sank.I thought Aiden was on my side, but now I'm not so sure. Of course he wouldn’t be, I mean my designs are nowhere to be found, everyone has his accusing gaze on me.I felt so stupid, and wanted no
Aiden’s POVI sat at my desk, staring blankly at the wall. I didn't know whether to be happy or disappointed. Riley said it was just an accident. I believed she was not lying. This proved that at least she was completely innocent, and I could trust her.But the clues were gone. If even the victim's daughter knew nothing about the truth, how could I prove that Grandpa was innocent?I felt frustrated, nothing was more important than setting my grandpa free and right now everything seems far from that.I picked up my phone and called Diego. "Hey. I just talked to Riley, and she said she didn't know anything about the case."Diego was silent for a while before responding, "From what I know about Riley, she really won't lie."I was curious. "From what you know about Riley? When have you met her?"Diego smiled. "I went to your office last time and was seen by her. Later, I ran into her at the bar, and she recognized me again. We had a great chat. She is indeed a very special girl I see why
Riley’s POVI focused on my design, trying my best to perfect the collection. I researched classic pieces, learned about various gemstones, and put my creativity into the design.I wanted everything to be perfect and I wanted to be able to impress Aiden even more, I was working so hard to reach my goal.I was very excited to know that the project team had been established. At this time, I had completed more than half of my design, and only the last ring was left. This was the work I valued most, and it would be a breathtaking work of art. Let’s say I put my heart and soul into this. The draft of the ring still needed to be polished, and I planned to work overnight to complete it so that I could start the project directly tomorrow.Lost in my work zone mood, I heard some noise behind me. I turned around and saw that it was Aiden closing the door of his office. He seemed to have just noticed that I was working here.He raised his eyebrows, “Still working?”I nodded with a smile, “Yeah I
