Li-lah excused herself and stepped out of the hall. She couldn't do it. She couldn't stand to be in the same room with him, she couldn't even pretend. The fact that she was In the same room with the man responsible for the demise of her Father made her stomach feel like she was on a boat being tossed about by a hurricane. She couldn't breathe, and it was something she realized was getting stronger.

As she staggered out, into the garden, she relived that moment. The moment her mother and herself cried and begged that her father be spared from the beating.

The pain went from emotional to physical. It was suffocating. She felt like she was going to collapse. It was too much, it was more than she could bear. She collapsed to the ground, and the tears flowed.

She curled up into a ball, fighting the fear, the darkness, the pain that was controlling her. She tried to escape it, but it wouldn't let her go.

The darkness was too overwhelming. She closed her eyes. A small moment of peace.
