Lucas paused in pain, missing the time to counterattack; by the time he could get himself together, she had already run into the forest.

Watching her escape, he didn't look surprised but narrowed his eyes and looked at her back view.

Wondering who she could be, he thought at first that she was an accomplice of the assassin, but obviously, she did not aim at him. Otherwise, she wouldn't have escaped so quickly.

A girl in the orphanage who was so good at martial arts couldn't be an ordinary person. She was just a teenager

_What is her real identity?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day, the radio in the orphanage rang out, and the voice of Director Steve ordered all the children in the orphanage to gather in the assembly hall. Both boys and girls must be present.
After the News, Director Steve turned around and looked respectfully at Lucas who was expressionless.”Mr Blackwood, all the children will be present soon. We thought you would select from the list we provided to you, but you said you wanted to see all the children so that no child with potential would be left out. That's a great blessing for them….”
Lucas didn't respond to him; instead, he watched the children through the balcony as they gradually showed up, half of which were boys and half were girls.
The children chattered in excitement as they saw the man above; seeing the legendary Lucas Blackwood was a dream come true for the children.
The Blackwood family is very powerful, and they're in charge of the most powerful training base in the United States. Boss Lucas, who is quite mysterious, is a god in their hearts.
The children all became excited as if they were already recruited into M base. It is known that the base had connections to the country's police and army. As long as they become a member of the base, they wouldn't worry about food or clothing for the rest of their lives.
If they developed well in the base and thus entered military and political circles, they could have a skyrocketing rise in their lives.
All the children of the orphanage were present. There were hundreds of them ranging from age five to eighteen years old.
Names are being called, and the bearer of the name will step out and answer.
However, after more than an hour, all the children had come out but Lucas hadn't found the one he wanted to find.
He was sure that the girl stayed at this orphanage because she was wearing the uniform of the orphanage, which was a long-sleeved blue uniform similar to a school uniform with the logo of the orphanage printed all over it.
But he can't find her among the children in the assembly hall.
Lucas's eyes swept over the faces of the children one by one, asking indifferently, “Are you sure all the children are present?”
Yes, they are all here. Our orphanage is the largest in Los Angeles, and there are 220 children under the age of 18 who are yet to be adopted. They are all here now. Director Steve said respectfully with a flattering smile. ” I am curious about something. Isn't it true that the base never accepts girls? Then why did you suddenly ask that the girls should also come out today, Mr Blackwood?”
Lucas didn't answer him but looked deadpan at the children who were looking at him earnestly and their uniforms.
Two hundred and twenty. No one is missing indeed.
Seeing Boss Lucas looking at the children's faces and figures with a straight face, The Director and the instructors of the orphanage are confused and wondering what he is looking at or waiting for but dare not ask him.
The children are gradually in an uproar. Everyone who was looked at by Boss Lucas was very excited, feeling that happiness was coming to him.
Casey Angeles’s name was not put on the list of the children by the director when she was brought in because she was too peculiar. Although she also attended classes, no one ever thought of adding her name in.
So when Lucas asked to see all the children, the staff of the orphanage was so excited that they forgot her. They forgot the boy locked up in that dark room.
Casey rarely communicates with people, and she is always sedated every morning. She never showed up or made contact with anyone except when necessary, so she was easily forgotten.
And even if someone thought of her, they wouldn't allow her to show up due to her bad temper; if she offended the M base, they would be in serious trouble, so she should never show up here.
However, The Blackwood heir seemed to be dissatisfied. He is a man of low profile and mystery, So none of them could guess what he is thinking, but…. Lucas's eyes were so cold that they couldn't help but panic.
In an unsettled state of mind, they are wondering why he is gazing at them with such a look. His oppressing aura made those who stared at him change from being excited to being nervous gradually and even unable to breathe in the end.
On the other side
Casey lay on her bed, her eyes slightly open, staring into nothing as usual.
When she got back last night, she changed her wet torn clothes and went to bed. Although she remained alert throughout the night, The man at the spring didn't show up, and it wasn't until the doctor came in to sedate her at dawn that she finally fell asleep.
Towards noon, she gradually regained her strength and sat up in bed.
Meanwhile, there seemed to be many footsteps approaching outside.
Casey paused and turned her eyes to the shut door.
    Getting back to her room, Casey felt something move inside. She stilled. Her fingers reached for the small utility knife hidden in the lining of her uniform pants.The door creaked as she pushed it open.A tall, lean figure stood in the middle of the room, unmoving.Her breath hitched.But then—“Casey?”Andrew.She relaxed… marginally.“I didn’t mean to startle you,” he said, raising his hands.Casey narrowed her eyes. “Then what are you doing sneaking into my room like a damn ghost? I thought you left when I went to the boss’s office.”“I—okay, fair. I didn’t think you’d be this jumpy.”“Old habit,” she muttered.He gestured toward the floor and sat cross-legged, like they were two kids at a sleepover.“I couldn’t sleep,” he admitted.She didn’t reply.Andrew scratched the back of his neck. “You’re… different. Not in a bad way. Just not like the rest of us.”Casey arched a brow. “You break into everyone’s room to tell them that?”A small smile tugged at his lips. “Only the interesti
I’ll give you that.”Casey steadied her breath, her arms trembling from the exertion.Jason folded his arms. “The boss may have let you in, but this was just a warm-up.”Austin clapped her on the back. “Welcome to Team One, rookie. Hope you survive.”Casey rolled her shoulders, ignoring the burn in her muscles.She’d survived worse.Andrew approached, shaking his head. “You really don’t know when to back down, do you?”“Backing down never got me anywhere.”---The recruits had barracks, but Team One had their own quarters—a privilege earned through blood, sweat, and survival.Jason led Casey through the dimly lit halls, stopping at an empty room. “This is yours. Don’t get too comfortable.”Casey stepped inside
    A murmur spread through the crowd.Has the kid offended the boss before?Even the most hardened recruits were exchanging glances, wondering why Lucas seemed unusually tense.Andrew shifted closer to Casey, lowering his voice. "Casey, have you met the boss before?"Casey’s posture stiffened slightly. "No."Her reply was firm, almost too quick.Andrew frowned. "Then why does he seem annoyed at you?"Casey exhaled through her nose, keeping her face neutral. "How should I know? Maybe he just doesn’t like my face."Andrew wasn’t convinced, but he let it slide for now.What truly puzzled everyone wasn’t just Lucas’s mood—it was the decision he made.Team One.To get into Team One, recruits had to go through Team Two's brutal training and prove themselves worthy before even being considered.But Casey?Lucas had thrown him straight into hell.Team One wasn’t just a group of elite trainees.     Silence fell over the training ground.The men stepped back, forming a rough circle around Casey and Lucas. Some exchanged amused glances, clearly expecting the ‘newcomer’ to be put in their place.Lucas didn’t move. He merely stood there, his hands in his pockets, exuding an aura of effortless authority.Casey met his gaze, her body completely still, her mind sharp.She had fought countless men before—street thugs, underground fighters, survivalists who clawed for their next meal.But Lucas was different.He wasn’t just another fighter. He was a predator—one who was used to people following his orders without question.“Time’s ticking,” Lucas said smoothly, his voice calm, almost bored.Casey smirked. “You sure you want to do this in front of your men?”A few of the men let out low whistles.Austin chuckled. “This one’s got guts.”Lucas’s expression remained unreadable, but the slight narrowing of his eyes told her he wasn’t amused.Then, without warning, Casey moved.A blur of speed
    Casey’s expression remained cold and unreadable as she took a step back, her gaze flickering toward the black SUVs. The air was thick with tension, every man in the area standing at attention, waiting for their boss to step out.Her instincts screamed at her—this was dangerous. Too dangerous.She had been reckless to follow Andrew here without knowing what she was getting into. Now, standing at the edge of a crowd that treated her like some rare creature, she realized she was playing with fire.With a casual yet firm tone, she spoke.“Your base is not suitable for me. I am not interested anymore. I’ll be off in a minute.”A murmur rippled through the men. No one simply rejected M Base.Austin scoffed, “Where do you think you’re going? You saved Andrew’s life, and that’s not something we forget. Since you have such great martial skills, why don’t you just stay? M Base could use someone like you.”Casey narrowed her eyes. “I don’t need a place to stay.”Andrew quickly stepped closer, lo
  • Defrosting Her Cold Heart    Chapter Nine
    Casey had followed Andrew in silence for what felt like hours. Her instincts screamed caution, but curiosity edged out her wariness. She had nothing to lose—and if this so-called "base" turned out to be a trap, she’d deal with it.When they finally reached a massive industrial building on the outskirts of the city, Casey slowed her steps. The structure was imposing—tall concrete walls, security cameras perched at every corner, and a reinforced gate that spoke volumes about whatever was going on inside.“This the place?” Casey asked, eyeing the building with suspicion.Andrew nodded, shifting nervously. “Yeah. Don’t let the outside fool you—it’s safer in there than out here.”Safer for who? Casey thought. Her gaze scanned the perimeter, noting the guards patrolling with practiced ease. Their movements were sharp—military precision. This wasn’t some street-level gang hideout. It was something else.Instead of going through the front entrance, Andrew led her toward a side door tucked awa
