DIANA KNEW SOMETHING was off the moment she woke up. She could cut the tension in the palace with her claws. She listened for any suspicious sounds besides Rudolph's snoring.
He slept soundly beside her with his small lips scrunched up in a tiny pout. She couldn't believe she let herself fall asleep, leaving them unprotected.
Not like Rudolph would have let her go another day without sleeping. She couldn't find it in herself to be mad at him for what he did, knowing that he did it because he was worried. Besides, she felt a lot better than she did the day before.
Standing to her feet, she stepped out of bed and sauntered to the window. From what she could see, it was already morning.
Why then didn't the King's guards come to get them? Or maybe they didn't.
No.
She hadn't known the King for long, but she saw him as the kind of person who ensures everything went according to his plan. Diana was rarely wrong about her perceptions of people.
Something was terribly wrong. Something that made the King temporarily forget about them. She didn't know what it was but she wasn't going to hang around to find out.
"Rudolph, wake up! We have to leave!" She called out while grabbing her boots from where she kept them and putting them on.
"Why?" His hoarse voice replied as he rose from the bed, confused.
"Do it and ask questions later."
He frowned but did as she said. Diana almost smiled at his compliance. She couldn't believe how much he trusted her.
Diana held his hand and led him out of the room and into the long hallway after scanning the area. She let her wolf come forward and longer in her subconscious mind. Her wolf watched through Diana's eyes for things Diana could not see.
Stealthily, she pulled Rudolph through the hallway, moving towards the back exit or rather, what she suspected was the back exit.
"Going somewhere?" A voice called out from behind them, causing Rudolph to stiffen.
Diana swore under her breath before turning to the person with her resting blank face on. "Your Highness, we were just leaving."
King Aiden raised a brow. "Without letting me know?"
"The King has better things to do, and I hate being a bother," she stared blankly.
"Join me for breakfast Lady Diana," he offered plainly, and Diana moved to decline, but King Aiden saw it coming.
"You want to refuse a royal order?"
Diana clicked her tongue in annoyance but went with him nonetheless. She and Rudolph trailed behind the King, who she watched with cautious yet intrigued eyes.
Why was a king walking without guards?
That was not what surprised her the most. Why was the King walking with his back turned to them?
Minutes later, they were seated in a big dining room with a large feast in front of them. Diana swept through the room.
"Why are there more guards than normal?" She asked before she could help herself.
King Aiden spared her a short glance before turning back to his food but responded nevertheless.
"Word went out to the Fay people that I somehow managed to possess the Crown of Omnipotence. Wherever the hell they got that idea from, I do not know."
Diana kept her blank face on while shoving a piece of meat into her mouth. A few years ago, she discovered that vampires could ingest food like other species but needed blood for their special abilities.
She eyed the goblet containing the red liquid warily. She felt a flashback threatening to come forth but pushed it back. The last thing she wanted was to break down in front of the King of Vampires.
Diana, who sat closest to the King, managed to give nothing away, but Rudolph, on the other hand, trembled noticeably, and Diana put down her fork and grabbed his hand from under the table with her left hand. Rudolph visibly relaxed at the contact.
She watched the guards again, tilting her head to the side. "I guess there was an attempt to raid your castle last night."
The corners of the King's lips quirked up slightly. "You are smart. So, tell me, Lady Diana, do you think the crown is in my possession at the moment?"
She hesitated for a second before letting a scoff leave her lips which made Rudolph stop breathing for a second. "The question, Your Highness, is, do you think the crown is in your possession?"
Placing her hand over Rudolph's hand again, she wordlessly reminded him to keep breathing.
"That is a question we both want the answer to. Don't you think so?" The King asked with a glint in his eyes that Diana recognised.
He knew.
Or he was close to knowing, and if he didn't yet, Diana was going to make sure he never did. For that, she had to play the right cards. What card was better than diplomacy?
"What do you want, King Aiden?" She asked, her tone and expression not wavering for a second.
The King leaned back, dropping the fork in his hand. His silver eyes turned stormy grey. Diana frowned, knowing how close Rudolph was to having an anxiety attack.
"Dolphy, can you go to the room real quick? I will come to get you in a short time."
Rudolph stared at her nervously. "Sure?"
"No one will hurt you," Diana said to Rudolph, but her eyes were the King.
King Aiden nodded curtly, and Diana turned back to Rudolph and told him to go, which he did reluctantly. Diana forced herself to peel her eyes off Rudolph's retreating back. Somehow, she knew he would be fine. She would burn down the world if he wasn't.
"Send your people out," Diana demanded as she pushed her food away, having no appetite to finish the rest of the food.
With a wave of the King's hand, the room was cleared out except for Diana and him.
The King gave her a hard stare. "You have my undivided attention."
"All the species of the supernatural world have a common enemy now; the zombies. Even with our unique abilities, we are at a disadvantage due to our... uh differences. We were bred to despise each other, and that, your Highness, will be our destruction," Diana began with her eyes not straying away from the king.
"Where are you driving at?" The King asked.
"I have a proposition."
KING AIDEN STARED at the shewolf in front of him curiously. Until now, he was usually good at reading people. The shewolf in front of him gave nothing away. Other creatures would cower in his presence but not her. She glared at him. She protected her companion like her pup. It made him even more curious about her story. Why was she so cold? Why was she so close to a Leprechaun? Was she hiding? Her green eyes held many secrets which he would certainly uncover soon. "I have a proposition." The King's interest perked up. He wanted to know what the she-wolf had up her sleeves so he gestured for her to continue. "Three years ago, humans first released a breed of scientifically enhanced Zombies with higher intelligence. Since then, I have been monitoring their
DIANA HAD JUST about reached the limit of her tolerance. Although she hadn't spoken a word since she was led into the strategic planning room, she had better things to do than introduce herself. Diana worked on marking spots on the map while the soldiers stared at her in disgust. Some made snarky comments even while knowing she heard every word. Normally, she would have just ignored it but when a General snapped at Rudolph for correcting his map reading, Diana lost her calm. "Gentleman, do we have a problem here?" She asked calmly, but she was anything but calm. "Of course, we do, mutt!" A commander sneered. "You waltz in here like you own the place and don't even bother introducing yourself. What do we look like to you? Kids?" She put down the marker and walked to the front of the room. "First off, the name's Diana and not
SLEEP EVADED DIANA that night. She would be facing zombies again the next day and was the least excited about it, especially since she had lost a lot because of those gory creatures.Diana recalled the first time she saw the zombies… that was just the beginning of the end for her.FlashbackWhen most people wake up in the middle of the night screaming, it's because they've had a nightmare. An escapable work of fiction caused by the brain, trying in vain to interpret the random firing of neurons.Diana’s screams that night were not only caused by a dream but the crushing feeling of dread. A sign of the horrible events that were to come.As reality finally settled in, the shrill sounds of her screams faded in her throat, but her heart was still beating too quickly, and her lungs wouldn't fill as she tried to brea
THE NEXT DAY, the soldiers were out and ready and waiting for Diana at the arena. The King assigned three commanders to go with her.One was a commander of foot soldiers, the second was a commander of firearms and the third, of archery. Each commander had ten soldiers behind him making it a total of thirty soldiers. She was provided with six SUVs with the capacity of containing six soldiers each. Diana walked to the first SUV with Rudolph walking beside her. She had tried convincing him to stay back but it all fell on deaf ears.Shooting him a glare which he returned with a cheeky grin, she entered into the vehicle and felt Rudolph climbing up after her.To think she would be used to it by now but she wasn't. She never wanted him to be anywhere close to danger but he went wherever she did, even if it was dangerous.Going to this facility was extremely important for Diana an
THE HALLWAY WAS cleared in minutes as the vampire soldiers outside stormed into the building. The doctors in all the labs had need knocked out and floors swept.Diana already knew where the secret lab was so she went straight to it with Rudolph in tow. There was no need to input the security code as the security system was down so the duo walked straight through the door.Diana was almost blinded by the amount of white in the room. Everything was white except for the cages which contained snarling zombies. The lab was almost like other labs but Diana knew something was up, she just needed to find out what it was. She searched the lab for anyone that could tell her what 'Project XPX' was but found nothing out of the ordinary."Over here!" Rudolph called out and she rushed over to him.At the edge of the lab was a bigger cage that was separated with a middle panel
Diana THE KINGDOM WAS fuller than normal when they got back. Diana heard whispers about an attack but nothing too informing. Immediately, she gave the boy to Rudolph, who took him to their room to get cleaned and rested, then she went to the King, all bloodied and all. The information she had was one of urgency. She was told by one of the courtroom guards that the King was in a closed-door meeting with his officials. "It is important that the King hears what I have found out," she said calmly while pulling up her brown hair in a ponytail with the rubber band on her hand. She had earlier taken it out to be washed at the river and left it out to air dry. One thing she hated most was having dirty hair. "Miss, we can not let you in," the same guard told her, and she had the mind to knock him out and force her way when the door opened, and Richard walked out. "Let her in," Richard said simply before returning inside, and Diana followed him, and this time, she was not stopped.
OTHER CLANS HAD come to take refuge in the Kingdom, therefore, limiting space and resources. It had been a busy week in the kingdom as more people were settling in. Diana saw less of the King as he was busy with the new clans.Diana had expected the influx of vampires into the kingdom. If the attacks persisted, there would be no more clans, just the main kingdom. The same was heard of the other kingdoms. She was preparing her plan for the alliance when she heard the warning bells ring. Her heart skipped a terrified beat when she recalled that Robin and Rudolph went into town to get supplies.Dropping the papers in her hands, she dashed out of the strategic room and ran through the corridors. She left the castle unseen and blended into the crowd of running vampires. She almost choked on the stench of so many vampires at once but focused on getting to her friends. Her wolf reeled back in re
DIANA FELT ON edge the closer it got to their death anniversary. She had a feeling something big was going to happen soon but she had no idea what. The day after the incident at the town centre she had a meeting with the strategic team to find a solution for the zombie attacks. She brought up the idea of capturing a living zombie for testing so they could find out what was used to create them. That way, they could create zombie specific weapons. Hence why at that moment, the soldiers were on the outskirts of the town on a zombie hunt. She stayed back with the planning team and doctors, preparing the lab for the zombie. The Vampires lacked scientists and the equipment the Fay people had but they would have to make do with what they had. It wasn't like they had another choice.Currently, she was watching her two friends argue with the doctors about whether bats were vampires or not. She could tell the
Diana DEEP IN HER thoughts, Diana did not realise that Sia had finished, and was now standing in front of her. "By the gods!" Diana exclaimed in astonishment as she took in the sight of her now imprinted friend. Unrecognisable words were tattooed all over the visible parts of her body except her face. "Does it look that bad?" Sia asked shyly. Diana quickly shook her head. "Of course, not! You look fierce, powerful and just as beautiful as you have always been." Sia looked at Diana with a timid smile on her face. "Thank you, Diana." "Do you feel any different? Does it hurt?" Diana asked. "It only tingled for some time and then nothing," Sia responded with a shrug. "And the book? The spells?" Diana asked again. "The book is gone now, and the spells…" Sia pointed to her head. "It's all in here." "That's perfect. Now, let us go back to the field and wait for Gary and Corbin. Gary expects that I have the Crown and you have the book. "But things have changed and those l
Diana "FOR THOSE OF you who have not met her, let me introduce you to Princess Diana Moonshine, daughter of the late King Dillon Moonshine. "She used to be the leader of the strategic team before she left. Now that she is back, she will continue to be the leader. "Stephan here will assist you, Diana," Aiden said, pointing to a man standing near Richard. Stephan stretched out his hand for a handshake, to which Diana took, immediately feeling his cold hands, and shook it. He held her hand for much longer than she would have liked. But she did not have to do anything because Aiden cleared his throat while glaring at Stephan. Diana pulled her hand back and turned to face Aiden. "What is going on, Your Highness?" "Less than an hour ago, I got a call from King Marse. His kingdom was hit by the Evolution. "He did not get enough time to call other kingdoms for backup before they were defeated. The same thing happened with King Fredrick. "We have lost the support of two kingdoms
Diana "I KNOW YOU may not believe me, so I want to show you something," Aiden said, then began taking off his shirt. "What are you doing?!" Diana asked in a high pitched voice. When she caught sight of his torso, Diana became tongue-tied. On his body was a beautifully drawn image of her Wolf form. Every little detail was perfect. The colour on her, and the golden markings, it was all there. She blurted out the first thing on her mind. "Wow, you actually did it. You got a tattoo." "Yes, and you are the only picture I want to see inked to my skin. The only one I want to see whenever I look in the mirror," Aiden responded. "It's beautiful," Diana complimented in awe, not taking her eyes off the tattoo for a moment. It felt unreal and impossible. Diana half expected to wake up at any moment and realised that all of this was a dream. Diana pulled her hands away from Aiden's view, closed her eyes, and discretely pinched herself. Opening her eyes, she half expected to wake u
Diana LATER THAT DAY, Diana was left alone with her friends. Sia had gone to meet Janessa and Ryan, while Aiden went to sort out matters concerning his kingdom. Rudolph filled Diana in about his situation with Lacey. Diana tried to understand what could be wrong with Lacey but came up with nothing after each thought. "Do you recall anything you did wrong before she became distant?" Diana asked. "No. I know for sure that I did not do anything wrong," Rudolph responded. "Then what could be the issue?" Diana mused. "Trust me, I have been wondering about that since we returned from the Fay kingdom. "Since she saw me hugging Janessa, she totally cut me out. She does not even want to see me," Rudolph said with a frustrated sigh. "Okay, calm down, let me talk to her. Maybe I can get through to her," Diana suggested. Rudolph instantly perked up with a smile. "That would be a lot of help. Thank you, Ana." "But first I have to talk to Aiden. I will go to Lacey afterwards," Diana
Sia ON ARRIVING AT the border of the vampire kingdom, Diana was recognised by the guards, and they helped Sia carry her to the castle. Without saying a word to Sia, Robin took Diana from the guards and began walking to a room. Not wanting to be apart from Diana in that state, Sia followed Robin and Rudolph. After Diana had been placed on a bed, Sia and Diana's friends sat around her, staring down at her in concern. Soon, a tall man strode into the room. He moved straight to Diana's side and her friends scooted over for him to sit beside her. Sia instantly recognised the King of vampires. "Your Highness," she greeted with a bow. "Explain," he said bluntly, as he grabbed Diana's small hand in his large ones. His eyes were cold and stormy but they held warmness for the female laying on the bed Sia watched the scene in confusion, wondering what the hell was going on. She knew Diana was close to vampires but she did not realise Diana was this close to them. "Yes, Sia, pleas
Diana IT WAS NOT certain to Diana how she found herself standing face to face with Selene. She felt the glass in front of her and indeed, she was now inside the glass which was a lot bigger than she thought. She turned to Selene. "Things get weirder and weirder at each step, but it is no longer surprising." As expected, Selene smiled. "Only you would be relaxed about standing inside a mirror." Diana shrugged. "Try having two other different personalities inside you, fighting zombies for four years, and being tortured by a crazy lunatic. "I guess strange things is my new normal. It no longer seems foreign to me anymore." "About Luna, it is actually my fault. You were right, wolves are not supposed to have a separate consciousness. "I tried to keep my sickness from you but I could not stop my mind from creating another consciousness in your head. "I wanted to take her out, but it would not work. So, when I saw how harmless she was, I decided to let her stay. "This just a
Diana ONCE AGAIN, DIANA was confused about what to do. Taking Selene's essence seemed wrong in many ways. Most of all, it would be an added responsibility that she was not sure if she could bear. If she thought keeping a relic was hard, how would keeping a god-like power feel? "No. I-I-I can not do it, Selene. Keeping the Crown is enough work as it is. "For crying out loud, I spent almost four years hiding from other creatures who wanted the Crown. I can not add this one, too, please try to understand," Diana said. "If that is your major concern, then you have nothing to worry about. No one would be able to sense the god-like powers in you unless you decide to let them. "The Crown is just an added benefit, you can choose to give it to someone else but you have to return it to its original form since I will no longer be in it. "Then you can live in peace as everyone will know you do not have it anymore," Selene told her but Diana was not convinced. "What about immortalit
Diana SHE FELT HERSELF falling in space, free-living and weightless. She kept on floating with her eyes closed in the dark, letting the breeze take her to wherever. Suddenly, her body stopped moving and it was no longer dark, as light beams tried to get past her closed eyes. Diana opened her eyes and then her feet finally touched the ground. After her eyes had adjusted to the light, Diana took in her surroundings. "What the heck?!" Diana blurted out. She was surprised to see that she was now standing in the middle of mirrors. The room had mirrors on the walls, the roof and the floor. Diana was a bit creeped out by numerous reflections of her, all staring at her. "I had imagined the afterlife to be less creepy," Diana muttered to herself, trying to look away from her reflections, only to stare at another each time she turned her face. "That is because you are not in the afterlife, Diana," she heard a voice say. "Who said that?!" Diana asked, looking around but finding no
Diana "OUCH!" DIANA HEARD Sia groan in pain. Diana pulled herself up —thankfully without a scratch— and walked over to Sia who was holding her right arm and moaning in pain. "Here, let me take a look at it," Diana requested, and Sia took off the hand covering the wound. Taking one glance at the wound, Diana looked back up to Sia with a blank yet incredulous look on her face. "It's just a little scratch," Diana deadpanned. Sia pouted while looking up at Diana. "But it hurts!" Diana raised both her eyebrows. "Really? You have got to be joking." "Small wounds hurt more," Sia defended. Sighing, Diana rubbed her forehead in frustration. "You know what, I'll just grab the book so we can get this Crown activated." Diana got the book and climbed down to the centre of the square where Sia now stood, thankfully over her tiny cut. "Are you sure you are ready for this?" Sia asked as Diana handed the book over to her. "No, I am not," Diana instantly replied. Sia threw her ha
