Sybil Park
This was just a part of our so-called Fuji tactic. Only the three of us knew about the Fuji tactic. The tactic was effective especially when it’s snowing or perhaps it’s fall season. The trap was invisible because it was covered with snow.
The guards immediately arrived. All of them were breathless and were drenched in sweat. One of them groaned. “That thief is so fast!”
“Sir, the thief you are after fell in this pit. We can help you lift him up to punish him,” I said.
They were relieved after hearing what I said. Of course, the three of us helped the guards to lift up the culprit because the guards were obviously tired. Few minutes later, the culprit was finally in the hands of the guards and the eunuch finally arrived.
I glanced at Cladius and saw that he was getting himself ready. Vishton, on the other hand, was just calm.
Vishton and I tried to be good to the public even if we were only at the lowest level of civilization. People’s eyes were on us whenever we were outside with Cladius. It’s uncomfortable yet I understand since he’s a nobleman and the son of the general. I once thought why he kept hanging out with us, commoners, when he can hang out with his fellow noblemen in his age too.
Society in Normous kept bothering me so I wanted to live somewhere hidden. Perhaps near the mountains or near the river. I just wanted peace.
I told Father the reasons why I wanted to live there but he became angry at me. From then on, I didn't waste any more time telling him what I wanted because I was afraid he might get angry again.
The culprit was trembling in fear as soon as he saw the eunuch and the guards.
Vishton approached the culprit and observed him. He forcibly confiscated the equipment stolen by the perpetrator. “The artefacts you stole have no value nor any worth. Not even one of the people here would want to steal such cheap artefacts! So tell me—What is your reason for stealing it?”
My eyes widened when Vishton did that. Goodness! The eunuch was looking at him, shocked. Vishton had no right to judge this culprit—what is he even thinking?! Has he gone crazy?
“I just stole it because I wanted to! It’s my hobby!” the culprit cried.
“Everything has a reason. So it’s very impossible you just wanted to steal that. And one more thing, the ones you stole are the cheapest and we can’t use them but that’s important to the owner. Just answer my question. It's that simple, sir. ”
“I already told you! I just want to steal! I just want to!” He lowered his gaze.
“Guards! Whip him fifty times and punish his family as well.” I-is he serious ?! He can't punish his family especially since they didn't do anything to him!
I looked at Cladius but he just shrugged at me.
The guards approached him and held him by both arms but the culprit kneeled and cried.
“S-someone ordered me! I stole worthless equipment to fulfill our plan! ” The culprit got the attention of all of us even more. Especially the eunuch and Vishton. Cladius acts as if nothing’s happening. Maybe he’s looking for something to eat. "We plan to steal the holy artefacts from the museum and so that we can’t be caught, we need to find something to replace those and decorate it excessively! That way, the artefacts we stole and the fake replacements will look the same."
Vishton gravely glared at the culprit. "Tell me, who is your mastermind?"
“Him!” He pointed at the eunuch beside us. “It’s Eunuch Kye who ordered me to do it! He also threatened me, sir!” He trembled like a leaf in the air while still kneeling in front of Vishton. “Please don’t hurt my family! They did nothing and they aren’t involved in this! Punish me instead!”
He shifted his stare to look at Eunuch Kye. "Punish the eunuch by whipping him a hundred times and discard him as a eunuch. We don’t need a criminal to serve the empire." Everyone was surprised, especially the eunuch.
"What right do you have to punish me like that?!” Eunuch Kye yelled at him.
Well, Vishton was just helping Cladius because he will be one of the generals in Normous, if ever. Cladius didn’t have such courage to face culprits or even a noble to mock, frame, and scold them. So basically, Vishton was doing all of his job and Cladius was the one who took the credits of the works that Vishton did.
I once disagreed on what they were doing but Vishton was such a good friend so he was doing all of his best to help Cladius.
The eunuch chuckled sharply. “What evidence do you even have? The culprit himself isn’t enough to declare me as guilty of this crime. Who knows that he’s just lying and wanted me to fall down with him.”
A guard interrupted, “I saw the eunuch threatening the culprit. I’m not sure if they’re the ones I saw.”
“R-right! That day, he gave me a letter! H-here is the letter the eunuch gave me!” said the culprit. “In that letter, the eunuch gave me a large sum of money if I did what he wants. He also threatened me in that letter and dared to hurt my family.”
The eunuch grabbed it and grinned. “This isn’t my handwriting.” He showed the letter to the guards. “Sir, do you think this is my handwriting? A dirty and messy penmanship?”
The guards answered simultaneously, “no.”
I saw Vishton clench his fists.
Cladius shouted, “don’t deny it, Eunuch Kye! Y-you . . .” He groaned. He didn’t know how to backfire.
“Don't be crestfallen, Lord Cladius. I have already resolved this case. I have the evidence with me.” Lord Julio suddenly appeared.
“First of all, I have a spy for this crime. And he saw the culprit,” he said.
He flipped his hair and continued to frame the eunuch in his crime, “second, what this guard says is true. They met on the north side of Xania Palace. Where Prince Riyo lives. . . . And that northern part is abandoned. There were no people but the guard happened to pass by because the prince's dog ran north. Third, this letter is not the handwriting of the eunuch but the handwriting of a servant. It is obvious from this calligraphy that the writer did not know how to write. My point is, the eunuch used the servant to write everything down. If something happened and this culprit failed, he could just easily blame the servant for being the mastermind. Even if the servant says the truth, no one will believe him because first of all, the eunuch is the one who sits in power.”
“That is not true! How can a eunuch like me do that?!” Eunuch Kye raised his voice against the lord.
"Can't eunuchs lie and sin?" Zhu Julio retorted, "and no matter what else you do, I have solid evidence and witnesses!"
Lord Julio gazed at Cladius. “I’m giving you the right to punish this man. What do you think is the best for him?”
Cladius trembled a bit. “Y-you have sinned so you must be punished! You will be removed from your position as eunuch. . . ” He started to take deep breaths. “. . . This empire doesn’t need a wicked eunuch like you! You’re so immoral so y-you deserve to fall! From now on . . . you’ll be a slave.” The eunuch was grabbed by the guards while it was crying and shouting miserably. The culprit was imprisoned for 4 days.
Vishton gazed at us. “Sybil Shima, Cladius Won. Come and—”
To be continued . . .
Sybil Park“I’m hungry, Vishton!” Cladius interrupted Vishton. “So now, let’s go to my hut and eat!” He ran away, and so did Vishton. While they were running away, I was left behind, so Cladius yelled at me, "hey! Hurry up, Sybil! The one who’ll be last to enter the hut will treat the squad a delicious ramen!” I had no choice but to run. I don’t want to treat these two boys especially when I had no money with me!“YES, I still remember . . .” I lowered the tone of my voice, while smiling and looking at nowhere. It’s quite fun to reminisce nice memories from the past, especially if Vishton and Cladius was part of that memory. “. . . and until now, I can still remember that absurd tactic we invented when we were young.”Cladius chuckled. “As far as I can remember, it’s the Fuji tactic you’re saying isn’t it?” He sighed. “I wo
Sybil Park“I said . . .” Shin’s voice was trembling. She flinched at Maximaze and grinned.Someone hit her on her head. "That’s a kid, Shin. Control your temper." I realized that it was Hanneul who hit Shin. “Let’s talk somewhere else. I have tea for you. ” Then the two of them left.I glanced at Cladius. He watched the two of them walk away with that strange look in his eyes. I felt like he’s wary about the two of them.I watched Maximaze eat hamburgers. Her mouth was full but she still managed to smile.“Mother, do you like to eat some?" Maze asked.I shook my head. She smiled. I stroked her hair.
Maximaze ParkAfter we visited Twaechon, we headed straight to my uncle’s manor.Uncle immediately ordered the servants to get dinner ready. I went up to my room and changed my clothes then I went down to eat.“Oh, Maze. Sit down,” Mother said. I followed what she said and ate."We're going to do something tomorrow, Maze," said my uncle."General, what are we going to do?" I asked."We will have training starting tomorrow..""For what, General?"“It’s a rehearsal that will surely help you in the future. Running fast is one of the things we’ll do tomorrow.
Maximaze ParkHe raised an eyebrow at me. “Noble, can you let me finish my statement first?”"Oh, pardon me, Sir.” I lowered my gaze.“He wants you to go to a certain place where you can start your training.”I gazed at him and frowned. “Huh? Where? Will you escort me there, Sir?”“I’m afraid I cannot escort you there, Noble.”I frowned even more. “Then how could I get there?”“The general ordered me to give this to you.” He handed me a paper. I looked at it and realized that it’s a map. “Since you received enough lessons and bee
Maximaze ParkAs soon as I got the map, I immediately left the town. I was about to eat earlier in the town before leaving but I became wary thinking that I’m surrounded by fools and they might steal my ramen. So, maybe if I finally reach the training place, I’ll eat immediately.I stopped walking when I saw a gate. Perhaps I’m here already, so I knocked.Someone opened it. That someone was the general. "Good afternoon, Maze!" he welcomed me. I just raised my left hand, wasted no time to gaze at him, and continued walking in.“You must be too busy to travel, Maze. I’ll tell you something, have a seat.” He pointed the chair beside me. I obeyed his order.I put my basket down on the table fir
Maximaze Park“What I am going to teach you today is the use of a sword, but we’ll use a stick first since this is just training.” He sighed. “First, hold the sword.”I held the sword as he said. “Your grip is wrong, Maze. Do not touch the sword to the very end. Raise your grip a little.”I raised my grip on the sword a little.“Now, this is a simple attack. You attack from the top on the right and then from the top again but on the left. ”I followed what he said.“Then attack again on the lower right and then on the lower left. Right, left, right, left. It’s that simple. Repeat that. ”
Maximaze ParkWhile preparing for aim, darkness conquered my vision. Hence, I lost consciousness again. I was here again in a dark place where all I could see was . . . a tree. My heart’s beats became slower, its pulses were loud and I could hear it, but I was not frightened. Despite knowing my condition, I fired three arrows. I could hear the sharp sound of them flying towards the tree. All the arrows I fired hit the target and the first two arrows were torn as they landed on the same coordinates."That’s amazing!" Uncle complimented me.My eyes widened when I saw the general's fist so close to my face. He almost hit me. "You must always be wary, Maze. Keep your guard up so that you can protect or defend yourself as well," he taught. Perhaps he will teach me self-defense. "I will teach you self-defense
Maximaze ParkWe went inside and found the house stunning. Darius said that it was made of a tree that was sturdy enough and a cement that cannot be demolished. It was also augmented by decorations such as plants, clean stones from probably the largest mine here in Normous, masterpieces by famous painters, and soft rags that were probably made of gold thread and beautiful fabric."The house is beautiful, isn't it?"I turned to Uncle. "Yes, General," I replied."Then follow me." He walked away and I followed him. He took me to the front of a door and opened it. A ravishing and tidy room first welcomed my sight.“This is your new room.”A new room and a new
Maximaze Lativitus Park Years passed just like a cold breeze of the wind. Normous was slowly claiming its own definition of peace, yet inhumane souls continued to wander around Gaia. I, on the other hand, seemed to be accompanied by havoc for the rest of my life. My instincts were real. I never found peace after the war. Never. And everything got worse when the crown was passed down on my head after the emperor gave up his position. No matter how I tried to heal myself from the tormenting haunts of my memories, I could never stay away from the cacophony of voices of them. I continued living in nightmares and in the consequences of my actions. The longer I ruled this region, the more I was slowly yet unconsciously
Maximaze ParkFortunately, despite the chaos that occurred in the region, His Majesty and the rest of the Imperial Family members were safe.I also got an update about my comrades. Isa was fighting the end of all sufferings on her deathbed because of the explosion whilst Uncle Cladius . . . was gone and was torn into pieces after the explosion. His hand and head were his only body parts that they recovered. This time, I wouldn’t lie to myself anymore or convince myself with lies. The general was dead. He joined my parents.Even though we successfully vanquished Madreign, we’re still not allowed to go out as fumes and ashes were scattered around. We remained confined here in my manor together w
Maximaze Park I sliced the neck of the person in front of me. As we started fighting, a lot of blood scattered on the ground and some of it splashed on my face. There were quite a few of them, so the fighting would take a while. As I swung the katana and it whistled sharply, dancing so gracefully on the surface yet like a rose, touching it was a trap. Those elegant moves of my weapon caused people to die in a gruesome way. I never thought of this, except the nightmares that made me keep remembering my bloody past. These high-pitched noises entering my ears whilst their blades cut through the air were making me . . . vulnerable—a weak sheep who knew nothing but to worry about something she should’ve forgotten a long time ago. An arrow passed beside my head.
Maximaze Park I looked at Fritz. "Sorry for the sudden visit," she said. I nodded. What was she doing here? I couldn’t remember summoning them in Normous. They came here without informing us. Fritz took a deep breath. “Intruders ambushed Atolon and shot Commander Manuel dead. He entrusted Revi to take charge of Ahouzran. It's his order before he died.” I lowered my gaze. This was a big problem. "New Order, our ministry, gave Revi the authority to use the military to help us in the war," she said, trembling. They lost their commander. Aside from Revi, Manuel was also one of the strongest soldiers in Atolon and the
Maximaze ParkRenata told me about the power she had. Only then did I realize that she was compelling and in one snap, she could easily defeat Madreign. At first, I wondered why would they even have to ask for help if they had someone whose strength was similar to the vigor of thousands of warriors. However, after hearing the full story, I got an answer to that question of mine. Renata was indeed powerful as she was a descendant of a titan god, yet the price of her ability is her own strength and life. Every time she use her powers, her life becomes shorter and shorter until nothing will be left.I couldn't blame her if she wants to live longer. She may leave her loved ones behind, grieving because of her.Honestly, when I first heard her story, selfish was
Maximaze ParkI talked to the emperor about the help Atolon was asking for. I went over the possibilities and the things we could benefit from. To convince him, I used Normous safety. If we don't help Atolon, Madreign may ambush Normous since they made contact with us. They may rush here again at an unexpected time.Talking to the emperor was not easy because the dear empress had just passed away. I found out that the empress was the older sister of someone who had given me something to eat in Twaechon. As far as I can remember, chopao was the name of that food. I haven't eaten chopao in a long time, I want to taste it again after a long time. However, I didn’t know how to cook chopao."Your Majesty, what step do you think we shall take?" I sighed. There my heart started to beat rapidly. It kept
Maximaze Park“It's already been a long time . . .” He sighed, closed his eyes, and lowered his gaze. “. . . yet everything is still fresh in my mind as if those events just happened yesterday or a day ago.”We were just the same. Our memories from the past kept haunting us, giving us nightmares we didn’t want to have. All of those were fresh as if it happened just recently with no intention of leaving our heads. As for me, the most unforgettable catastrophe was the day I dirtied my hands just to survive with Liene, my first friend.“My comrades and I were having a peaceful rest until culprits destroyed our night and threatened to kill us. When most of us dared to fight back, they slaughtered them, and those who did nothing remained alive. I’m one of those cowa
Maximaze ParkRevi sighed and gazed at her left, where a painting of Mother and I was placed. “Children lost their parents, parents lost their children . . .” Her eyes had lost their luster and were gloomy as if she was like a dove who had lost her pure white wings.“. . . Madreign destroyed everything — friendship, family, dreams, trust, and peace. They even took our freedom. ” Her melancholic eyes met mine then she averted her gaze above to stare at the ancient painting."What they did in the past two decades is worse than what they did more than 400 years ago, wherein they discriminated, tortured, and slaughtered our ancestors before trapping them under Mount Colossus." She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. “That’s only my opinion after all. How co
Maximaze ParkSilence conquered the room. Revi, the so-called strongest captain of Atolon Island, seemed so familiar to me. However, her companion was unfamiliar.I gazed at Fierro, giving him a sign to leave the room with Gertude. So did Revi, prompting her companion to leave the room.I sighed as I quietly observed the captain. I readied a dagger under my table just in case. This dagger was Fierro’s gift for me when I came of age.Perhaps Revi and I were the same age and I also probably saw her in neighboring towns so she was familiar. Or perhaps . . . she was part of the journey more than a decade ago. I’m not sure, but it was a possibility since regions in Gaia supported Levorsa’s ideals of unity by going on a voyage together every 3-5
