Chapter 57

Mr Perelman’s death marked the beginning of my sad life with the family that built me up for a month. I never thought the day would come when I would wake up without Mr Perelman. It was like a nightmare. I still can’t accept or better to say I don't want to accept it.

After the funeral, I never saw Hazel at home again as if she was burying herself at work to forget her father’s death. While Mrs Perelman never left her room, it seemed like that way she could forget the loss of her husband.

A week passed and during that week I couldn't help but feel indifferent that I was alone again. Though, it was funny to remember that I was alone from the start.

At that point I realize something and that is, sometimes in our lives when we learn to be with someone, we learn how to be sad when we're alone. That's because we no longer know how it feels to be alone and without a partner. We are used t

Chapter 58After that conversation, I instructed driver Arjo to visit the Perelman family's former home. And he was right, it was just a few corners away from our house. No wonder it looks like Hailey and I met before. Maybe I was too young then so I can't remember or maybe it's part of my forgotten memories.Driver Arjo told me many more stories as we toured the old house. I can't help but compare the mansion of the Perelman's to this place. It seems like they just had a simple life back then. A simple little house, simple door, no stairs, no second floor and a clean house. I also noticed that there was a garden in the backyard, but it was abandoned now though it still looks like being cleaned so no moss can be seen, unlike my previous house to my previous life.Driver Arjo said Mary and I often chase in the backyard. So that's where I chose to go after touring the house. I can't understand the feeling but t

Chapter 59But my step across the bridge stopped when Saint began to speak."I didn't kill your mother." That word is all I hear from him but my blood is now boiling. I forced a deep breath to suppress the anger ruling in my chest. I want to think first of everything I will do in front of him now. I wish I knew how to answer him gently and not get angry with him again or slap him. "Listen to me, I didn't kill your mother Mary." But it seems that he intends to drain my patience today. "Again, I didn't kill Eve, Mary. I-It was a fated death." But after I heard what he said today, it seemed like all my restraint of anger ended in nothing. I quickly turned back to him and slapped him hard. A slap I know he will never forget."Saint, do you think you can still fool me? I know everything, my two eyes saw! You killed my mother. You killed her! You killed her! You killed her!" I couldn't stop punching and scolding hi

  • Death Contract   Epilogue

EpilogueIn every story, I read there are two endings. It's either happy or sad. Half of my life was revolving around thinking how a fairy tales book, novel, short story or parable would end. But this time I was thinking about how would my story end. Is it true there is a happy ending? Is it true that everything has an ending? Or is dead the end of everyone? Because while thinking deeply my story started when I died. So if death is the ending of everyone, it seems very impossible. Yet in life, I know everyone has a role to play before they passed away and that thing God has shown me that many times in different ways."Class dismissed!" I quickly stood up when I heard that word from our last professor today. I quickly put my things in the bag before standing up to leave. But Stephen suddenly approached me."Hey!" he greeted me still hesitant. Yet to get rid of his hesitation I smiled back at him.

I deeply sighed before I decided to pull it out of the shelves.Ever since I was a child, I always enjoyed reading children's stories. Because for me, they were more than just a story for the kids. Beneath those fantasies was a hidden meaning that the writer wanted to give to every child so when they grow up, they would know how to deal with reality even without fantasies.I sighed again before approaching the librarian to borrow the book."And it's you again?
