Jane's POV

"That must have been an awful experience for you dear." Ollie said, raising her voice again.

I didn't want people around us hearing her so I shouted at her to keep it low.

"You're speaking too loud." I warned her.

Ollie nodded, acknowledging my concern, and we moved closer to our lockers to discuss the events of the previous night.

"He was that rude? Seriously, Jane, you should report him or something," Ollie suggested, her voice still tinged with shock.

I sighed, leaning against my locker. "Reporting him won't change anything. Adrian has been like this for as long as I can remember. It's just something I have to deal with."

Ollie furrowed her brows, "But it's not fair! No one should treat you like that, especially not in your own home." She whispered the last words, opening her eyes wide.

I appreciated Ollie's concern, but the complexity of my relationship with Adrian went beyond simple solutions. "It's complicated, Ollie. He's my stepbrother now, and no matter how much

"Your personal physics tutor, huh? I guess you're ready for an enlightening session."Steve's laughter echoed through the phone, his playful tone reaching into my ears like music. "Enlightening is an understatement. You make physics sound like a thrilling adventure."A smile tugged at my lips, but beneath it was me being pretty careful about how I let his words hit ne. Steve was undeniably charming, a popular guy known for his basketball ability but, their was a but.My heart had been down that road before, and I wasn't eager to let it take another beating."Hey, how about we continue this in person? Ollie's POV"I forgot to read the material Jay. I forgot." Whispering it as the tears almost came down.Jane placed her hands on my back and said almost with a hint of worry and disappointment, "Why didn't you read the material?"I muttered, "I forgot to pick it up. I'm so done for."Then the teacher saw us. "What's going on there? Jane, why are your hands on Olive and why's her head on her table?" "I'm sick." I lied. But honestly, I didn't. I was nervous like shit and I needed space. It's the same as sickness only this time I needed time alone and not in the clinic. So I stood up and left the class without waiting for the teacher or Jane to say a word. As I left the class, I could feel the teacher's gaze and Jane's concerned eyes following me. I needed space, needed to breathe away from the pressure and my own overwhelming disappointment. So, I headed straight to the library. In the quiet of the library, I found an empty corner, allowing myself a moment to let out the pent-up emo

Adrian's POV "Hey, Coach. You got a minute?" I approached Coach Nick at the basketball court, my mind burdened with the weight of some priorities.Coach Nick looked up from his clipboard, a scrutinizing look in his eyes. "Sure, Adrian. What's on your mind?"I took a deep breath. "Coach, I've got some assignments and tutoring at home today. I was wondering if I could skip today's training session."Coach Nick leaned back, assessing my request with a stern expression. "Adrian, I'm thrilled that you're taking your academics seriously. It's important. But you know I can't tolerate indiscipline. Skipping training can't become a habit."I nodded, understanding the coach's perspective. "I get that, Coach. It's just a one-time thing. I'll make up for it."He sighed, a hint of disappointment in his voice. "Adrian, I want you to succeed both academically and on the court. But you need to find a balance. Your commitment to the team is crucial, especially now. We have four more games to win to m

Chapter 20Jane's POV "You may take your textbooks out." I told Adrian.I cleared my throat, trying to focus on the task at hand. But it was difficult, because around Adrian, I felt like a bag of mixed emotions. It's like standing straight like my hair right there, unsure where to settle. His presence made my heart do funny things, like butterflies were having a party in my stomach. He wore this black T-shirt, kinda cute, showing off his muscles. It made me wonder if the shirt was conspiring with his body to make my thoughts a mess. His jeans, casual but cool, added a touch of that "I don't care, but I do" vibe. The simplicity in his dressing oddly contrasted with the chaos he brought into my world.Like, what is going on exactly? His hair, a bit messy but in a way that looked deliberate, like he just stepped out of a movie scene. Some water droplets clung to his hair, and I knew it was because he just had a recent shower. It felt like I was observing a scene from a teen romanc

Chapter 21Jane's POV Then I heard a knock on the door.Without a second thought I shouted, "If you would please leave me alone to my solitude, I would really appreciate. I need a break from your insecurities Adrian. So leave." My heart racing so fast at the mention of his name. The room felt very tensed and that heightened my unease. To my surprise, the response that followed wasn't Adrian's voice. Instead, a calm and familiar tone came through the closed door. "Jane, it's not Adrian. It's me, Richard."My heart sank as the realization hit me, and I quickly got to my feet. Opening the door with a mix of embarrassment and surprise, I stammered out, "Richard... I mean, Dad . I thought you were someone else."He regarded me with a gentle smile, an understanding in his eyes. "No need to worry, Jane. I heard the commotion, and I wanted to check if everything is okay. Is everything alright?"I nodded, trying to compose myself. "Yeah, sorry about that. It's just been a long day, and thing

Chapter 22Jane's POV"Funny, coming from the king of arrogance," I shot back, unable to stop the words from escaping my lips.Adrian chuckled, his smirk widening as he leaned casually against the lockers. "Chill, princess. But seriously, what's got your panties in a twist today?"I rolled my eyes, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing how much his words affected me. "None of your business, Adrian. Just leave me alone."He raised an eyebrow, his stare lingering on me in a way that made my skin itch. "Aw, come on, Jane. You know you love our little exchanges.""Yeah, because nothing is fun like being constantly harassed by the school's resident bully." I scoffed, my frustration mounting as I slammed my locker shut." Harassed? Please, Jane. You know I'm just teasing."I shook my head, refusing to let him get under my skin. "Well, I'm not in the mood for your teasing today, Adrian. So why don't you go find someone else to bother?"He chuckled, unbothered by my defense."As tem

You act like I should tell you my every move, you're not my mother Jane." I took a deep breath, trying to find a way to break through the wall he was putting up. "Adrian, I'm not trying to control you. And I'm definitely not trying to act like your mother. Can't we just live together without causing unnecessary complications."He rolled his eyes, dismissively, "Complications? You're the one complicating things. I can't even have a simple day without you turning it into a family crisis."My frustration boiling over, I shot him a deadly look, "Adrian, it's not a crisis. It's a conversation. If we're going to be siblings, we need to communicate. I've told you this before.""Communicate? You make communicating really hard Jane. And I'm sick and tired of this." Jane's POV.I woke up on the cheerful side of the bed and decided to stay optimistic through the day. Despite how my first attempt to make things up to Adrian turned out, I chose not to give up. I was fighting with myself and my emotions, while trying to fix things with Adrian and I. I didn't care so much about being on good terms with him, I had tried several times and failed. But I was more interested in making Richard and Mitchell happy. If for nothing, they deserved a peaceful environment.I thought out of the box and decided to do something that would make us bond. I didn't know a lot about him, but I searched my mind for something that he would enjoy and I would enjoy too.Maybe I would ask him to teach me how to play basketball. That sounded like too much to ask for, I had a feeling he would decline with insults. Maybe we could go to a party together. I didn't know if any parties were happening as I had no friends, and I knew that Adrian wouldn't want to be caught dead with m

I shot the lock and then kicked the door open. My eyes first darted towards a boy tied up at the door. Wait, I knew that boy. I think his name was Steve and he was a friend of Adrian. She's helped him heal and forgive himself. She's made him feel loved like I or the rest of his family never could. But I just needed someone to blame, someone to give the blame to so I would feel better. Because knowing who's caused your child pain is better than not knowing at all.I grabbed a chair and placed it beside his bed.
