Chapter Ten: Damian's Thought

Damian's Pov

The night was still, but my mind wasn't. I was sitting in my dimmed study; the amber glow of the desk lamp cast shadow patterns on the walls. The drink in my hand had remained untouched for hours, the ice melting in it, diluting the amber liquid.

But nothing diluted the thoughts churning in my head.

Her face just wouldn't leave me.

Lena.

I leaned back in the leather chair, my eyes fixed on the ceiling as her image flickered in my mind: those wide, frightened eyes, the way her slight frame seemed to shrink as Bianca stood over her, spitting cruel words even in my presence.

I had watched it all, watched as Bianca stripped her of what little dignity she had left.

And I had done nothing.

No, it wasn't true. I'd done something. I'd let Bianca take her away even when I knew deep down she doesn't have a good intention towards her.

I squeezed my eyes shut, clenching the glass so hard it was in danger of shattering.

I knew exactly what I needed to do, and I had no longer a doubt left. I had allowed her to suffer enough, and now it was time to fix this.I got into the car, my heart pounding in my chest as the tires screeched against the road, slicing through the night like a knife. Bianca's house was far enough from mine that the ride gave me ample time to think, but my thoughts were more like a haze, really.Anger. Frustration. Guilt. What had I done? She had begged me, pleaded with me, and I had just let her go. I had allowed Bianca to drag her into this nightmare. I had stood by and told myself I didn’t care. But now, the thought of Lena in that house, enduring Bianca’s cruelty, made my blood boil. I sat stiffly, my hands gripping my skirt so tightly my knuckles turned white. Damian sat beside me, his profile sharp under the dim light from passing streetlamps. His jaw was clenched, his hands gripping the wheel with tension that made me wonder if it might snap under the strain.I wanted to speak, to ask him why he'd come for me, why he'd stormed into Bianca's house like a raging storm and pulled me out of that hellhole without a word. But the words were trapped in my throat, tangled with the fear and confusion that had consumed me since the moment he appeared at Bianca's door.I stole a glance at him, but his face didn't give anything away. His gaze was fixed on the road, his brows furrowed as if wrestling some invisible demon. Why? The question screamed inside my head, louder than the roar of my own heartbeat. Why would he care? The

Chapter Thirteen: "Promises in the Dark"Lena's POVThe house was quiet, far too quiet. The kind of silence that seemed to press against the walls, lingering in the shadows like a secret no one was willing to speak. It had been hours since Damian left for his usual business, and though I should've felt relief, all I could feel was the weight of the loneliness that came in his absence.I couldn't remember the last time I had time to myself, to just breathe and think. The weight of Damian's power and intensity constantly smothering me, but I knew that wouldn't last long. Damian always came back, he always commanded attention. I wouldn't have long before he did again, and I wasn't sure what I would do with that.It was then that I heard it-footsteps at my door. Not heavy, powerful steps like Damian's but light and cautious.I got up from the bed, heart racing. Could it be him? No. He would've called first. He always did. Yet, this presence that lay beyond my door felt different. I approa

But instead, I felt this weird heaviness-a mix of confusion and resentment.I sat cross-legged on the plush rug in the center of my room, staring at the locked door to my balcony. Chapter Sixteen: A Growing Unease The house was silent when Damian stepped through the front door. He set his travel bag down and took a deep breath, letting the familiar scent of home calm the tension in his body. The trip had been long, and exhaustion weighed heavily on him, but there was a nagging feeling at the back of his mind-one he couldn't shake. "Damian!" Bianca's voice greeted him before he saw her. She emerged from the living room in a shower of smiles and elegance, her arms extended as though this was the moment she had been waiting for all day. "Bianca," he said, managing a feeble smile. Then she leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him. He patted her back, stiffly, his mind already being pulled elsewhere. "You're finally back," she said, pulling away just enough to look into his eyes. "I thought I'd surprise you. I know how hard you've been working lately." Chapter 125Lena’s POV – Preparing for the StormThe soft hum of the safe house’s lights was the only sound that accompanied me as I paced back and forth across the room. The floor was cold beneath my bare feet, but I barely felt it. My mind was racing, a storm of thoughts that I couldn’t seem to quiet.Damian had gone into another room hours ago, speaking in hushed tones to Logan. The urgency in their voices had been undeniable, but I hadn’t been able to get close enough to hear the details. I hated being left out of the plan, hated feeling like a liability. I wasn’t the same vulnerable person I had been when I first walked into this world. But still, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t shake the sense of helplessness that seemed to cling to me, suffocating me with every passing minute.I walked to the window, peering out into the darkness. The world beyond was eerily still, almost as if it was waiting for something to happen. I didn’t like how quiet it was. There was too much at

After the explosion, the gunfire, the running. After the moment when my life, and Damian’s, nearly slipped away in the blink of an eye.I sat on the edge of the bed, staring at my hands, which were still shaking. The memory of the bomb—its deafening roar—was fresh in my mind, every detail still vivid. Damian’s urgent hands on my arm, pulling me into his protection, the heat of the blast, the smell of smoke and dust that had choked the air. The sound of the glass shattering, the metallic scent of blood in the air. I had never been so close to death, yet here I was, alive. But was I really living? I felt numb, detached from everything around me.Damian had ordered me to stay here, in this safe house, a place where I had never felt more like a prisoner. There were no windows, no doors to the outside wo

The evil red numerals on the device pulsed, a grim reminder that every second ticked us closer to disaster.Bianca leaned against the cold ground, her body shaking in weakness due to the wounds I had inflicted upon her before. Nonetheless, despite the pain, she smirked. Her deep, bloodshot eyes gleamed with twisted satisfaction. She thrived in such chaos. "You'll never be able to prevent it in time," she whispered, licking blood from her cut lip.I clenched my fists, my patience wearing perilously thin. My heart pounded in my ears, the rage within me kept barely under control by the fear of what was at risk."Shut up," Logan snarled, bent over the bomb. His hands flew across the wires, but even he couldn't hide the sweat at his temples. "This is not an ordinary bomb—it's encoded. If I cut the wro

Chapter 11”: The Trap Lena’s POV The silence in the room was suffocating. I stood frozen, my heart hammering against my ribs as I stared at Damian. His face was stone-cold, but his eyes burned with barely contained fury. Logan had just delivered the news—Bianca had taken someone. Someone close to me. I swallowed hard, my throat dry. My fingers curled into fists as I struggled to process it. “Who?” My voice came out hoarse. Logan hesitated, glancing at Damian before answering. “Mia.” A sharp pain shot through my chest. Mia. The only person who had ever been like a sister to me. The girl who had stayed by my side when no one else did. The thought of her in Bianca’s hands made my stomach churn. I took a shaky breath and turned to Damian. “We have to go. Now.” He didn’t answer immediately. His jaw was tight, his muscles tense as if he were barely restraining himself. “It’s not that simple,” he finally said. My eyes flashed with anger. “What do you mean? She has Mia! Are you ser
