Chapter 67: Darkness

Emily’s secretary had already left and everyone in the building was gone already except for her and a few other staff and security guards. She was stuck late at work because of some paperwork that ended up on her desk at the last minute. Sighing, she sat down to finish it before leaving. She knew if she didn’t get it done tonight then tomorrow, she would never be able to catch up to the busy week ahead of her.

Joshua came to see Emily that evening and noticed that her car was still parked in the garage. She haven’t left yet. He was going to surprise her. He started walking up the stairs.

It was so hot that evening that the city went into a blackout. Everything was powered off. The generator kicked in but only lasted for a couple of minutes.

“Oh, no. She’s still afraid of the dark. I need to get to her. I need to make sure she’s alright,” said Joshua with worry. He took out his cellphone and turned on the flashlight. He ran up the stairs to Emily’s office.

“What the-” stuttered Emily.
