~Avery~ My hands gripped the steering wheel tightly as I stared ahead at the car that just blocked my path. Could it be Ella again? Haven't I taught her enough manners for today? I had promised to pick up my little princess today after school since I was unable to take her to school today all because I was falsely arrested by the police. Sighing, I carefully pulled off my seatbelt and pushed the car door open, I could also see the figure at the other car copying my movement. Once I was fully out of my car, I approached the other car since the owner was taking the whole time in the world to get out. As I drew closer to the car, the figure turned out to be masculine rather than feminine. So if it wasn't Ella then who was it? The door opened and a tall figure stepped out of the car. My eyes rounded in surprise. Scott? Well.. my guess wasn't wrong either after all, there wasn't much difference between him and his pathetic wife. I snorted at my thought and proceeded to him.
~Avery~As soon as Allison sighted my car, she bounced up from the wooden bench she had been sitting on for God knows how long. If only Scott hadn't made my go through that long route, I'd have been here on time. She flapped her hand up and down in excitement while running towards my car. So much excitement for her first day in a new school. I slowed down and parked at a nice spot.Unfastening my seat belt, I stepped out of the car only for her to crash into me.“Mummy!!” I crouched down to her height and engulfed her into an embrace, a deep soothing one. I pulled away from her after a few seconds with my hands resting on her shoulders. From her bubbly expression, I could tell that she had a fun day today. Or maybe she must have done something naughty or epic. I knew my daughter so well. She was the mischievous type. “Woah.. Ally, you look so happy.. did you make new friends?” I stood up. Taking her small hand, I helped her get into the car's backseat and got in after her.“Yes I m
~Avery~Glancing to my side, I took a peek at Allison's face, she hadn't spoken or said anything to me since we hit the road. I noticed she avoided staring in my direction. It felt like she was hesitating to tell me something.Few seconds more into the overbearing silence, I heard my phone ring, with one hand on the steering wheel, I used the other to search for my phone buried deep down in my purse.Once I was successfully able to reach for it, I took it out.“Hey Dad..” Dad didn't say a word until a few seconds later. My wild instincts kicked off immediately. Something must have happened, or is still happening “Avery…the board members are becoming more persistent, they didn't support the idea of rescheduling the meeting” I sighed in relief. So that was it? Those oldies better know who they were dealing with. Dad might have been the down to earth happy man when he was still the president, but I'm not like dad. I can be down to earth too but…not to the point where people step over
Hello dearies and happy new month 💙💙💙 This book hasn't been so consistent with updates in the last few days due to some personal stuff happening but from this new month, updates will be consistent. Thanks 💙💫
~Avery~My head was in chaos but I tried my very best to keep a neat smile on my face. Never in my wildest dream did I plan to meet Ella in my daughter's school. I guess fate has its way of bringing people together. It turned out that she was the mother of the boy Allison had bullied the previous day. Now that I was here, I felt a little bit guilty about scolding Allison. This mother and son don't deserve any sympathy at all.My grip on her hand further tightened. This was the same hand she had tried to use on my child and I wasn't going to spare her for that mistake. I applied a much stronger force on her wrist twisting it until I heard a small snap.“Argh!!” “Apologize!” I ordered still holding firm to her wrist. Beads of sweat settled on her forehead, her face twisted in pain. She was still so arrogant to apologize for her wrong doings. Good! I was more arrogant than she was. Until she apologizes to me, I'd release her from the torture. “Sorry!” Ella screamed in agony before pul
~Avery~Deep black eyes. Ink black hair and a well chiselled face. These features, I was once well familiar with them. It was the face I woke up next to gazing upon every morning. But all that was once upon a time. All that was left were just the bitter memories. I stood there trying to catch my breath.“Avery” His deep voice called out sending shivers down my spine. Once I had regained my senses, I placed both hands against his chest and pushed him with all my strength, the farthest he could go away from me was barely two steps backwards. He just scared the crap out of me. But most importantly, what the fuck was he doing at my company? How dare he show his face to me again? “What the hell do you want?!” I demanded sending him cold stares. Suddenly realizing how loud I had been a while ago, I looked around hoping no one was around.“Avery I need to speak with you..Let's go somewhere private to-A snort left my lips before he could complete his words. “Private? Mr Brandon..aren't yo
~Avery~ Ella's face turned a light shade of red under my scrutinizing gaze. What do they really think of me? Of course my words about her family was very correct infact. They all had a criminal record well except for her or maybe she hadn't been caught in the act yet.Lucy's gaze was fierce, her eyes almost drilled a hole on my face. I didn't have the time to exchange words with them now. Or more like, I didn't want to exchange words with Lucy. She had been a good mother-in-law when I was still married to Scott. Unfortunately, I had no idea why she had changed so much.“Excuse me?! Do you have any idea of what you just said? You dared to insult my family?” I rolled my eyes at her pointless question. Yes! I insulted her family because she did the same to mine. “Ella.. I've never interfered in your affairs with Scott..but you have a lot of problems with me.. don't you ever get tired? I know I'm awesome and an amazing fellow..but you just have to lessen your excitement whenever you se
~Ella~ The breakfast table was empty when I got down a few minutes ago. This was obviously because Scott was still at the hospital and Ken left for school earlier. I was still on my casual home wear. A pair of ash jogger pants and a black tank top. I had just finished my yoga practice for the day. This morning couldn't be any more blissful than it already was now. I settled on one of the white couch in the broad living room with a coffee mug on my left hand, it's been a while since I had some time alone to myself and I wasn't about to trade it for anything. I mentally noted to visit Scott at the hospital in the next one hour. Raising the mug to my lips, the warm liquid seeped slowly into my mouth. My throat bobbled as I swallowed relishing the after taste with a smack of my lips. “Hmm..perfect” Few minutes into this perfect pin drop silence that enveloped the whole building, I heard the sound of a car pulling in disrupting the peace I was slowly getting used to. My brows fu
~Ella~Was I happy? Yes of course! Even though my intial plan to attack Avery didn't go well last night at least she gave Scott the final blow to his face. He was so torn apart last night to sleep or react to anything. And as always, his doting wife, which was me, was by his side all night long to watch him suffer more in pain. I love Scott a lot but he was just making me look like a fool. If only he had any idea of what deeds I've done so far to get him.“Once we are in…don't say or do any thing” He warned sternly.I turned my head to him and gave a nod. He unbuckled his seatbelt and stepped out of the car leaving me to ponder hard on my thoughts. Taking a glimpse outside of the glass, I peeked at the tall building. The hospital..Who were we here to see? I guess I have to find things out by myself. I opened the door and stepped out. Scott was a few steps away from me and by the way he was in a hurry to go in, I had a feeling we were here to see the one person I hated the most.I ha
~Avery~“Stephen…” How much has he heard? It pained me so much to see the look of betrayal in his eyes. There's no one else to be blamed but me. I should have informed him at the earliest but I didn't if not, things would have turn out differently..“Stephen I swear I can explain everything to you-Stephen took a step backward as soon I took a step towards him. He shook his head slowly with a sardonic smile on his lips. It was really hurting me deeply to see him this way. How I wished I could turn back the hands of the clock. I'd have prevented this from happening. He deserved to know the truth.“You think it was fair to keep this away from me? I've always known there was something about the Brandon's that you were hiding. I guess I'm not so lucky” His words broke me. It felt like several knives were being jabbed into my heart at the same time. How could I be so foolish?“I was going to tell you tonight believe me…” My vision was getting blurry as a few balls of water rolled out o
~Avery~What was he trying to do? Only the heavens knew what he was about to do. I pulled my gaze away from him and inched closer to the people surrounding Stephen and I.With each steps he took closer, my heart pounded. I still haven't told Stephen the truth yet and I didn't want him to find out from someone else because if he did, things would be a lot messier.Thud! The little noise stole my attention. I took a glance back at Scott's direction and immediately, my eyes grew large at the sight. Allison!Just few metres away from me was Allison holding an empty glass of wine and in front of her stood an imposing figure with wine dripping down his pants. Stephen excused himself and so did I. We both moved over to the duo who were still in a staring battle. A cold sweat broke out on my forehead. This whole hall suddenly felt stuffy for me. This was what I was so scared about. I never wanted Scott to meet Allison and that was the more reason he never got an invite from me. But yet he
~Avery~I stood before the mirror, my eyes locked on the stranger staring back. The elegant red gown hugged my curves, its silk fabric shimmering in the soft light. My hair cascaded down my back in loose waves, and the diamonds around my neck sparkle like tears of joy.As I gaze at my reflection, a smile spread across my face. Tonight was the night I had chosen to start a new phase in life for my daughter's sake.I took a deep breath, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness rushing through my veins. This was just the beginning of everything. I gave myself a reassuring smile trying to force down that tiny part in my heart that was begging me to stop whatever I was about to do.Hell no! I wasn't about to stop now. I've put in so much effort to make this day happen and I was very sure that Stephen was going to be a great partner to me and a great dad to Allison.A brief knock fell on my door and after a second passed by, it opened. I didn't bother turning around to find out who it
~Blue~ This past week has been filled with so much grief that I had to pause writing this book for a while. I've received tons of messages from some of you loyal readers asking me on F* about the sudden pause in the new book. The thing is, I lost a close friend of mine recently and it has really been so tough for me. 🥺💔 But I assure y'all that updates will resume fully this time like I had promised earlier. Please bear with me during this difficult time. 💙💫
Avery~I frowned staring down at my phone's blank screen after the call had been disconnected at the other end. It was from my assistant, she called to inform me that an angry man just popped up at my company demanding to see me.For the sick twist, this angry man happened to be Scott. I inhaled in a deep greedy amount of air down my lungs. It was a good thing I decided to stay at home today. But what could he possibly want? No matter how hard he had tried to talk to me for the past few days, he never showed up at my company or else he knew about my engagement tomorrow.I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't realize when Allison crawled on her fours next to the large swing chair situated at the balcony and also where I was seated. “Boo!!” My heart almost leaped out of my chest the moment she yelled. I touched my chest trying to control the fast beat my heart was making. I heard her little giggles and let out a deep sigh.“Ally..you almost got me” I placed my phone aside on the
~Ella~ Scott came back home late and drunk last night. I called few of his close buddies to inquire what must could have made him so drunk that he could barely walk on his own. It was a lot of hard work trying to get him up the stairs with him constantly staggering back and fro but fortunately, I was so relieved that I could be of assistance. The only thing that could make him so mad was if only he ran into Avery again. Curse that woman! “Mummy, the glass is full!” Ken's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, I stared down at the overflowing glass of water and carefully placed the glass jug down on the dining table. “Oh..” What a mess I have made, I took my napkin off my laps and dabbed it on the brown dining table gently. Footsteps descending down the stairs made me look up towards the stairs. It was Scott and he was all dressed up for work. He looked a lot better than last night except the faint dark circles under his eye bag. “Scott..you're up. I was so worried about you las
~Avery~After I got back from the restaurant, I didn't spill anything to Stephen even after he asked me countless times about it over dinner. I couldn't have told him if I really wanted to since Allison was present with us too.My daughter was a smarty pants and she would likely put a thing or two together to figure out what she really wanted to know. I just didn't want Allison to figure out that Stephen wasn't her father. if she finds out, she'd try to do something so drastic just to find out who her real dad was.Stephen has always been a father figure to Allison, sometimes I really envied their bond and also wish that this perfect family we portray could last well enough till Allison is able to understand what was really going on around her. But I doubt that might be the case since Scott is always on my tail trying to brainwash me with some cooked up stories of his. When I noticed that Allison was already fast asleep, I slowly detached from her and drew the pink Barbie duvet ove
~Avery~ If anyone had told me earlier today that I'd be meeting with my ex-husband at a restaurant, I'd have tried as much as possible to avoid this from happening. I stared down at his hand holding me back from leaving, he noticed my lingering gaze on his hold and quickly released his grip on me. “What do you really want from me Scott? Don't you have better things to do other than to follow me around like a stray dog?!” My voice was unexpectedly loud and harsh garnering attention from the others in the restaurant. “I swear this was just a coincidence Avery..I just need five minutes of your time and after that, you can decide if you really want me to stop showing up in front of you” Deal! I screamed in my head. This was the perfect chance to get rid of him, I raised my two hands a little nodding my head with a sarcastic on my lips. “Good! Let's get this over with..” Few minutes later… “Ma'am what would you like to have?” I shook my head with a polite smile at the waitress
