~Avery~
I couldn’t believe what he just said and asked for an explanation. He started explaining slowly while I stared at him in shock, truly, I wasn’t in my right mind that day and that was mainly because I couldn’t believe Stella could do that. And more so, I wasn’t able to carefully examine all the people there so I believed everything he told me when he said he was the one who saved me. I frowned after he finished explaining everything to me. Now I felt more betrayed, I was totally fooled into believing he was the one who saved me. “I overheard your sister talking to one of the bully about you being the eldest daughter of the Brown's family, for a while, I was covered up with greed.” “I just wanted to dupe you of the life saving grace but I didn’t expect you to fall in love with me, all on my mind was if we got married then your properties will naturally be mine.” “I can swear I fell back with you but didn’t want to believe it, I was just…” I slapped him across his right cheek interrupting him of the word he wanted to say. I can’t believe someone will have such a shameful and disgusting thoughts and still act it out. “Who saved me?” I asked him not wanting to listen to whatever he has to say again, he took out a matching chain, it has a familiar lock that I’ve seen the key before but I had no idea where. “He was rushing and decided to leave you with me, he also asked me to give you this.” Collecting the chain from him, I had a dejavu. This was the matching chain that I always saw on Stella’s crush neck but I’m sure I’ve seen it elsewhere apart from his. I was about to ask another question when the announcement of takeoff getting ready was sounded which made us left. “Who could it be?” *** «FIVE YEARS LATER» “Alison.” I called running after her as I grabbed her, gently poking her nose. “Don’t scare mummy like that again ok?” She nods her head and smile before I dropped her back down. “This is an airport, you aren’t supposed to be running around or you’ll injure yourself, now be a good girl and walk gently without running.” She pouts bashing her long eyelashes cutely. Not to ignore, she resembles Scott a lot, from her eyeball to her face and her lips, everything cut him into two. She was his carbon copy and anyone seeing her will easily guessed she was his daughter, that’s if they knew I was her mother. “Okay mom.” She said, her voice tiny, I sighed. I didn’t expect raising her without Scott would be so troublesome. Yes troublesome because I couldn’t give her the fatherly love she wanted and deserved even though I knew she needed it. Stella had to come back a week before me because of the announcement banquet that’ll take place tonight. For everything that happened over the years was a more mystery. I don’t know how to explain it all but I felt like there were more to Scott and Ella’s relationship. Then she wasn’t married to him, even though she gave birth, he and the son wasn’t close enough, you can’t even see them together in camera and he doesn’t want to answer anything questions related to both her or her son. But I knew that was all a cover up for their romance, he doesn’t want anyone criticizing her for destroying our marriage. It’s more funny how much he loves her and he’s willing to protect her. I glanced over to the entrance and saw a familiar figure coming in, just behind him was Stella and Steven. “Finally.” I walked over to them with Alison running to meet up with them quick, I sighed and tried to catch up with her, just then I bumped into another person again. “It seems as though I have the ability to keep bumping into people because what.” I chuckled a bit and looked up to apologize but seeing the figure, I frowned and hissed unconsciously. “I’m sorry Mr Brandon.” I said and tried walking away but he pulled me back hugging me immediately, my body monetarily frozen. I wouldn’t lie that I had missed his touch a lot but I couldn’t deny the fact that he chose someone else over me, remembering that, I pulled away from the hug immediately slapping him across his face. “Please mind the way you touch me or you wouldn’t like me retaliating back to you. I will like you to respect yourself as the family man you are.” I said, though deep down , I know I was thinking differently. Ohh, how much I wished our lives came out in a different turn, then maybe how happy we could have been. “Avery, I’ve really been searching for you these 5 years, I’m really sorry for the way I reacted back then, I can explain to you. I’ll tell you everything…” “Scott please.” I shout angrily. That was just it, explain everything? Or tell me lies in replacement for his misdeeds. “I don’t want to hear anything, I just want to be free please ok.” I said but my eyes caught sight of the cabin on his neck, it was the key to the chain lock that was with me. Just as I was about to view it well, Ella came out pushing me away from him as she glared at me. “Don’t tell me you are here to beg him again.” I scoffed in annoyance because of her words. “Excuse me.” I said and walked away not listening to whatever they both had to say again. «FEW DAYS LATER» «BANQUET: ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE NEW PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT OF BROWN'S COMPANY.» The door opened as I walked in gracefully, my long shiny gown shining as it backed me up complimenting my skin. The spotlight was on me as I walked in, I left Alison with mom and dad so she wouldn’t be running around carelessly. Stella came to meet me to accompany me to my sit, I wouldn’t lie, she felt as though she had changed a lot. From her personality to the way she relate now. She had been apologizing all these while after dad told her about it and I think from the report given, she had really changed a lot. And the company she was supervising had now developed a lot. the banquet was huge because everyone was curious to see me. It’s been years and I didn’t show up even when I was needed, that was because dad was trying to protect me, he thought someone tried killing me 14 years ago but had no idea I saved someone instead. He wouldn’t listen to my explanation so I gave up explaining, I saw Scott at a side while Ella was in front of him. She was more of trying to get his attention but he wasn’t giving her any, okay that’s weird. I think he shouts at her because she left his front dejectedly walking back to her father. Maybe they really were not in a good relationship. Could it be there was really more than I thought? Scott sight me, I could see the hurt in his eyes, even though he tried standing up to meet me but I could tell he was controlling himself. That must have been because of the incident at the airport. Ella traced his eyes and saw me, seeing he looked away already, she walked over to me. Here comes the bitch again. “Hey, so what are you doing here?” She smiled, does she think I wouldn’t see past her fake smile?. “Green tea bitch.” I muttered in response and smiled. She widened her eyes in shock as I walked pass her without giving her face. “Hey, how dare you walk out on me. Is it because of your dress, you just hooked up with one of the old wealthy…” I interrupted her with a loud slap on her right cheek, I’ve heard enough of the disrespect. “I thought you knew better.” I whispered into her ear, that should give her a clue. Everyone was staring at us. Scott was surprised too but I glared at him looking away. He should have realized by now that I’m no longer the lady he left 6 years ago. “For the most important reason we are here today, the announcement of the new president and vice president to the Brown's group of company.” Everyone cheered. Due to the announcement, everyone attention was focused on dad now. “Everyone, please welcome the new vice president to ROD group, the second daughter of the Brown's family, Stella Brown.” I let out a smile as she walked towards the stage in shock. She probably wasn’t expecting it. I talked to dad and Tina said she wasn’t interested in the company, she just wanted to pursue her dream of being a doctor so we let it go. Stella will be the new vice president and dad promised to appoint someone else as the new CEO and we kept it a secret so she will be surprised once she’s appointed. She looked at me after getting to the stage and I smiled giving her a positive look. “Everyone, please welcome the new president to Brown group, the eldest daughter of the Brown's family, Avery Brown.” The spotlight set on me as I walked to the stage. I could see the shock on Scott's and Ella’s face as I stood on the stage with everyone looking at me. Yes, I didn’t let him know I was the eldest daughter to the Brown's family. Things were getting more interesting....~Avery~ Applause rose from different part of the room as I climbed the stage. I felt a piercing eyes drilling a hole by the corner of my head. Taking a glance by the side, I met with Ella's furious gaze and by her side was Scott who looked so surprised.I pulled my gaze away from them and smiled tapping the microphone gently.“Good evening ladies and gentlemen..I really appreciate your presence, this day wouldn't have been possible without the support of my wonderful parents and family… Thanks once again and enjoy the rest of the night” Another round of applause escorted me as I walked down from the podium. The smile i had on never ceased for a moment.I've waited patiently for this day to come and it was finally here. There was absolutely nothing that would stop me from enjoying this night.Few of my dad's business partners flocked around me to congratulate me on my new position in the company.I stopped a waiter and accepted one of the golden colored champagne he held on a tray.
~Avery~ The words from the officer played over and over in my mind for a few seconds. I never did anything to warrant an arrest unless they were trying to pin the blame on me given as I was the only witness there before Scott got injured. Stephen left my side and walked to the officer who was about to pull out a handcuff. “Arrest? But on what terms?” “A complaint was filed against her by the victim's wife. Mrs Brandon. So stand aside Mr Harrison..and let us do our job” I corked a brow. So this had something to do with Scott's bitch, a subtle grin left my lips. I'm not about to give her the satisfaction she wanted. Rising up to my feet, I approached the cops and outstretched my hands out to him grinning from ear to ear. I could also tell that he was confused at my behavior but what does he know? This Avery before them was not the same as the one six years ago. Stephen was alarmed, he barely touched my hand to stop me from whatever I was about to do. “Avery..what are you doin
~Avery~ In the midst of this chaos Ella had created beforehand, I spotted Stephen trying to pave a way through the crowd in order to get to me. His face was streaked with worry and frustration. It had slipped my mind to inform him that my lawyer had taken care of everything. Once his eyes set on mine, he quickened his pace and suddenly engulfed me into a deep embrace and in the process he unintentionally pushed Ella from my side which resulted in her staggering backwards. “I've never met a stubborn woman as yourself before Avery" He scolded, stroking my back tenderly. I heard him sigh before he pulled away from me. He cupped my face in his palm staring directly into my eyes. “Are you okay?’’ “What do you think honey?" I answered back before throwing a look towards Ella. My lips pulled up into a sly grin when I spotted the look of confusion on her face. “Miss Brown.. does this mean you're in a relationship with Mr Harrison?” One of the nosy female reporters asked me to almo
~Avery~ My hands gripped the steering wheel tightly as I stared ahead at the car that just blocked my path. Could it be Ella again? Haven't I taught her enough manners for today? I had promised to pick up my little princess today after school since I was unable to take her to school today all because I was falsely arrested by the police. Sighing, I carefully pulled off my seatbelt and pushed the car door open, I could also see the figure at the other car copying my movement. Once I was fully out of my car, I approached the other car since the owner was taking the whole time in the world to get out. As I drew closer to the car, the figure turned out to be masculine rather than feminine. So if it wasn't Ella then who was it? The door opened and a tall figure stepped out of the car. My eyes rounded in surprise. Scott? Well.. my guess wasn't wrong either after all, there wasn't much difference between him and his pathetic wife. I snorted at my thought and proceeded to him.
~Avery~As soon as Allison sighted my car, she bounced up from the wooden bench she had been sitting on for God knows how long. If only Scott hadn't made my go through that long route, I'd have been here on time. She flapped her hand up and down in excitement while running towards my car. So much excitement for her first day in a new school. I slowed down and parked at a nice spot.Unfastening my seat belt, I stepped out of the car only for her to crash into me.“Mummy!!” I crouched down to her height and engulfed her into an embrace, a deep soothing one. I pulled away from her after a few seconds with my hands resting on her shoulders. From her bubbly expression, I could tell that she had a fun day today. Or maybe she must have done something naughty or epic. I knew my daughter so well. She was the mischievous type. “Woah.. Ally, you look so happy.. did you make new friends?” I stood up. Taking her small hand, I helped her get into the car's backseat and got in after her.“Yes I m
~Avery~Glancing to my side, I took a peek at Allison's face, she hadn't spoken or said anything to me since we hit the road. I noticed she avoided staring in my direction. It felt like she was hesitating to tell me something.Few seconds more into the overbearing silence, I heard my phone ring, with one hand on the steering wheel, I used the other to search for my phone buried deep down in my purse.Once I was successfully able to reach for it, I took it out.“Hey Dad..” Dad didn't say a word until a few seconds later. My wild instincts kicked off immediately. Something must have happened, or is still happening “Avery…the board members are becoming more persistent, they didn't support the idea of rescheduling the meeting” I sighed in relief. So that was it? Those oldies better know who they were dealing with. Dad might have been the down to earth happy man when he was still the president, but I'm not like dad. I can be down to earth too but…not to the point where people step over
Hello dearies and happy new month 💙💙💙 This book hasn't been so consistent with updates in the last few days due to some personal stuff happening but from this new month, updates will be consistent. Thanks 💙💫
~Avery~My head was in chaos but I tried my very best to keep a neat smile on my face. Never in my wildest dream did I plan to meet Ella in my daughter's school. I guess fate has its way of bringing people together. It turned out that she was the mother of the boy Allison had bullied the previous day. Now that I was here, I felt a little bit guilty about scolding Allison. This mother and son don't deserve any sympathy at all.My grip on her hand further tightened. This was the same hand she had tried to use on my child and I wasn't going to spare her for that mistake. I applied a much stronger force on her wrist twisting it until I heard a small snap.“Argh!!” “Apologize!” I ordered still holding firm to her wrist. Beads of sweat settled on her forehead, her face twisted in pain. She was still so arrogant to apologize for her wrong doings. Good! I was more arrogant than she was. Until she apologizes to me, I'd release her from the torture. “Sorry!” Ella screamed in agony before pul
~Ella~My heart almost leaped out of my chest at the sudden crash next to me. I shuddered when Scott grabbed me by the shoulder. He sent cold glares to my face. “For the last time Ella! How did that little girl end up here?!” His voice was hoarse and chilly. With every word he spat out, I could see the anger he was trying to push down.He had been like this since the previous day trying to get an answer from me but I wasn't going to give myself away. That was just like stabbing yourself in the foot.Avery ought to have involved the Cops in this matter by now. That was the reason I brought her daughter back home. If she files a complaint against him, his image would be ruined and tarnished in the face of the public. No one can ever recover completely from that. Not even Scott. He'd eventually learn to hate Avery and her daughter.“How would I know that? I only learnt about her daughter yesterday after she came here. I'm also as confused as you are Scott. Why don't you believe my word
~Avery~My eyes narrowed down at Ella who was openly challenging me. There was nothing anyone would say to convince me that Allison wasn't here. Scott couldn't do anything. He just stood there staring at me with the most confused face I had ever seen on a person. His face wasn't about to fool me now. My baby girl was in this house and I'm gonna find her.I turned to the direction of the stairs and started walking towards it slowly. My ankle still hurt a lot but I was more desperate to find my Ally. I didn't know what Scott wanted to do but I heard a deep grunt which made me peek over my shoulder.Stephen was no longer where he was standing. He was holding back Scott from coming to me. I averted my gaze and continued walking away slowly.I've lost count of how many turns I took. The house I thought I was familiar with was now difficult for me to navigate properly. If I remembered correctly, Scott's room was two rooms away from the balcony. That was the same room we both shared as a hu
~Ella~If there was anything I loved the most, it was to see Scott suffer because of Avery's sake. My poor dumb husband, I felt some kind of pity for him. But whatever Avery was doing benefitted me in many ways.Scott was always in need of a shoulder to cry on and who else is best when it comes to this other than your wife? I knew instantly that I needed to make a drastic move after Scott threatened to spill my real identity to everyone.I took a glance out of the glass. It was a little bit difficult to spot Ken in the midst of several kids running around while they waited for their respective parents to pick them up. Knowing fully well the kid I gave birth to, I instantly assumed that be must be at a corner with his little gang of friends bullying another weaker kid like he always does.I've received countless of reports about him concerning his naughty ways, I wasn't proud of it but I couldn't lay a hand on my precious boy or scold him. So things had to be that way as long as no o
~Avery~My eyes never left Stephen's face even for a mere second. Although, he was avoiding my stares. I just needed like five minutes to explain everything that I wanted him to know. “Stephen I-He tore his gaze away from mine and placed the white bowl on the nightstand table. He had been feeding me the soup mum made for me but I doubt he'd be doing that again since I brought up the topic.“The doctor said you need plenty of rest” He jerked to his feet. He pulled the white duvet over my feet up to my belly. “Get some rest. I have some work to do” I held his arm before he could walk away. My head tilts to the side while I gaze at him with the most sincerest look on my face.“You deserve to be angry. I kept something so important away from you. But the truth is that I tried to tell you but I couldn't find the courage to do so” I paused a bit to find out if he was ready to listen and when I did, I continued. “I'm sorry Stephen. But you need to know that Scott and I parted ways years
~Ella~Was I happy? Yes of course! Even though my intial plan to attack Avery didn't go well last night at least she gave Scott the final blow to his face. He was so torn apart last night to sleep or react to anything. And as always, his doting wife, which was me, was by his side all night long to watch him suffer more in pain. I love Scott a lot but he was just making me look like a fool. If only he had any idea of what deeds I've done so far to get him.“Once we are in…don't say or do any thing” He warned sternly.I turned my head to him and gave a nod. He unbuckled his seatbelt and stepped out of the car leaving me to ponder hard on my thoughts. Taking a glimpse outside of the glass, I peeked at the tall building. The hospital..Who were we here to see? I guess I have to find things out by myself. I opened the door and stepped out. Scott was a few steps away from me and by the way he was in a hurry to go in, I had a feeling we were here to see the one person I hated the most.I ha
~Avery~“Stephen…” How much has he heard? It pained me so much to see the look of betrayal in his eyes. There's no one else to be blamed but me. I should have informed him at the earliest but I didn't if not, things would have turn out differently..“Stephen I swear I can explain everything to you-Stephen took a step backward as soon I took a step towards him. He shook his head slowly with a sardonic smile on his lips. It was really hurting me deeply to see him this way. How I wished I could turn back the hands of the clock. I'd have prevented this from happening. He deserved to know the truth.“You think it was fair to keep this away from me? I've always known there was something about the Brandon's that you were hiding. I guess I'm not so lucky” His words broke me. It felt like several knives were being jabbed into my heart at the same time. How could I be so foolish?“I was going to tell you tonight believe me…” My vision was getting blurry as a few balls of water rolled out o
~Avery~What was he trying to do? Only the heavens knew what he was about to do. I pulled my gaze away from him and inched closer to the people surrounding Stephen and I.With each steps he took closer, my heart pounded. I still haven't told Stephen the truth yet and I didn't want him to find out from someone else because if he did, things would be a lot messier.Thud! The little noise stole my attention. I took a glance back at Scott's direction and immediately, my eyes grew large at the sight. Allison!Just few metres away from me was Allison holding an empty glass of wine and in front of her stood an imposing figure with wine dripping down his pants. Stephen excused himself and so did I. We both moved over to the duo who were still in a staring battle. A cold sweat broke out on my forehead. This whole hall suddenly felt stuffy for me. This was what I was so scared about. I never wanted Scott to meet Allison and that was the more reason he never got an invite from me. But yet he
~Avery~I stood before the mirror, my eyes locked on the stranger staring back. The elegant red gown hugged my curves, its silk fabric shimmering in the soft light. My hair cascaded down my back in loose waves, and the diamonds around my neck sparkle like tears of joy.As I gaze at my reflection, a smile spread across my face. Tonight was the night I had chosen to start a new phase in life for my daughter's sake.I took a deep breath, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness rushing through my veins. This was just the beginning of everything. I gave myself a reassuring smile trying to force down that tiny part in my heart that was begging me to stop whatever I was about to do.Hell no! I wasn't about to stop now. I've put in so much effort to make this day happen and I was very sure that Stephen was going to be a great partner to me and a great dad to Allison.A brief knock fell on my door and after a second passed by, it opened. I didn't bother turning around to find out who it
~Blue~ This past week has been filled with so much grief that I had to pause writing this book for a while. I've received tons of messages from some of you loyal readers asking me on F* about the sudden pause in the new book. The thing is, I lost a close friend of mine recently and it has really been so tough for me. 🥺💔 But I assure y'all that updates will resume fully this time like I had promised earlier. Please bear with me during this difficult time. 💙💫
