Lucas POV “It is you! It’s really you, Janette!” I exclaimed, shock written all over my face. I had seen her walking into the school premises whilst holding the hand of a little boy. I thought my eyes were deceiving me and had waited patiently for her to come outside. When she didn’t come out, I thought I was just hallucinating, but then she came out and… and, I can’t believe my eyes. Janette is right here in front of me, looking all different from the woman I knew six years ago. She had become even more beautiful than I remember. Oh, Janette! I couldn’t help my joy at the sight of her. Without thinking, I rushed into her arms, but she pushed me away. “What do you think you are doing?” she snapped, wiping her body with her face scrunched up in disgust. “How dare you lay your filthy hands on me? Have you no respect?” I gasped and couldn’t believe my ears. “Janette, it’s me, Lucas. You haven’t forgotten me, have you?” I asked, my voice laced with hurt. I couldn’t believe she was treating me with so much contempt and acting like she has no idea who I am. She scanned me from head to toes. “I don’t care who you are, but the next time you come that close to me again, I will make you regret it.” She tried to get into her car, but I held her hand. “Janette,” I called, my heart aching. “I…” I trailed off. She yanked her hands away from me as if my touch repulsed her. “I saw you walk in there with a little boy. Who is he?” “Why do you care to know? It’s none of your business.” she scoffed and made to get into the car again, but I held her. “Please, Janette, who is he? He looks a lot like me.” I said, and she went quiet for a while without saying anything. Suddenly, she burst out laughing and I creased my brows, wondering what was so funny. “Looks like you? My son? Looks like you?” she scoffed and pointed her index finger at me. “I have no idea where you got your imagination from, but that child is my son and is in no way related to you. In case you don’t know, I have a fiancé, and we are getting married soon, so stop this gibberish you’re saying.” She huffed and I could feel my heart bleed. “Fia… fia… fiancé? You’re getting married?” I asked and she flashed me a smile I could swear didn’t reach her eyes. “Yes, Lucas, I am getting married. I’m single after all.” she said matter-of-factly and got into her car. “Janette! Janette! Please, we have a lot to talk about. Please hear me out.” I clasped my hand together in a pleading manner. “Hey, do I know you? I have no idea who you are so stop pestering me, okay?” she spat in disgust and turned the car on. “Janette, please, please, Jane!” I called but she ignored me and drove out. I ruffled my hair and clutched to my chest, my eyes watering. Janette just said she had no idea who I am. After searching for her for six years, she claims not to know me and now has a son and a fiancé? “Fuck!” I exclaimed and looked around. I knew I deserved whatever she just did to me. Everything I did to her six years ago was still fresh in my head. Bella had tricked me into believing that Janette was sleeping out and had done numerous abortions, which is why she wasn’t able to get pregnant. Coupled with the pressure from my family about having a child was my anger and resentment towards her for cheating on me. I thought I would feel better if I cheated on her as well with Bella. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth was what I went along with, and I ended up hurting her and asking for a divorce. After that, I thought I would be happy, but I was hurt instead. Bella soon became a thorn in my flesh when I refused to get married to her, and she left me, but not without mocking me about believing her lies and not trusting my wife. After she left, I realized just how much I needed Janette and searched for her. I even went to her adopted family’s residence but was told they had passed away and Janette was nowhere to be found. I realized how much of an incompetent husband I was. I didn’t even know what was going on with my wife and left her all by herself to face her problems alone, and still she loved me and wanted to be with me, but I chased her away from my life. Tears rolled down my cheeks. “Will you ever forgive me, Janette?” I muttered under my breath. I walked into the school and made my way to the kindergarten. Since I was one of the school sponsors, I had the leverage to come in anytime I wanted, and so for today, I used that to my advantage and went into the kindergarten. I stood by the door and used my eyes to search for the little boy Janette had brought to school. I found him, in no time, sitting while listening attentively to the story the teacher was reading to them. He looked like a mini me, and I couldn’t shake off the feeling of this little boy being my son. He suddenly turned and our eyes met. He held my gaze for a while, a look of curiosity in his eyes, before his face softened into a cute smile. My heart melted and I found myself smiling. I quickly broke eye contact and rushed out of the school. I stopped in front of my car and massaged my temple. “Could it be that Janette was actually pregnant six years ago?” I asked myself and an idea struck me. I know the only person that’ll have an answer to this question. And so, I got into the car and drove straight to the hospital I knew she frequented when we were still together. I was lucky enough to see Doctor Bree outside and rushed to her. “Good morning, Doc. I really need to ask you a question. Would you kindly spare me like five minutes of your time?” I asked. “Sure, Mr. Lucas. What’s going on?” She inquired and I sighed. “I believe you know Mrs. Janette Wayne? She usually comes here for pregnancy tests six years ago.” She smiled. “How can I forget Mrs. Wayne? She set a record—” “Good,” I cut in. “How did her tests go?” “The last time she visited the hospital, I can recall she was bleeding, but fortunately, we were able to stop it and she and her unborn baby survived.” “So, she was pregnant?” I asked, and Doc. Bree nodded. “Yes. Her baby should be five years old now. Are you her relative or something?” She asked and I nodded. “Thanks for the information,” I rushed back to the car and rested my head on the wheel. Janette was pregnant! She was actually freaking pregnant… for me and I divorced her. I could still recall the smile on her face when she rushed to me and gave me the test results. I didn’t believe her. She told me she was bleeding, but I thought she was faking it and ignored her. And then I realized, and my confusion cleared as tears rolled down my cheeks again. That little boy…. That little boy is my son. That little boy she said wasn’t related to me is my son… my heir!5.Janette’s POVI sat in the event, my thoughts drifting far from what was happening on stage. I couldn’t believe it. I saw Lucas, that scumbag! Never in my life did I imagine that I would see that jerk again. After all these years, after six fuckìng years, he had to show his face to me again and open closed wounds. He had to come back into my life at a crucial time like this, a time that I was getting out of the ashes he put me in.Why the heck did I have to see him of all people and ruin my day, huh? Why? Why him? After leaving the country, and surviving the harsh reality of his behavior towards me, I saw him as dead to me and never wanted to see him again, but fate had to be so cruel to me and make us meet again. Why didn’t he remain dead? Why—“Ma’am,” I gasped and turned to see Rosa looking at me with a worried expression on her face. “Are you alright?” She asked, and I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding.“Yes.” I answered.“Good because it’s time to cut the ribbon
6. Author’s POV Janette couldn’t believe what just came out of Lucas' mouth. She glared at him, her eyes literally spitting fire. “Let go of me right now!” she ordered but Lucas shook his head. He felt like if he left her, he wouldn’t see her ever again. He wasn’t ready to lose her anymore. He has suffered enough trying to find her and is still suffering for everything that happened. “I can’t let you go, Janette. Please, let’s forget about the past and start over.” he pleaded and Janette couldn’t believe how heartless he was. After everything, he expects her to forget? Forget? That was not happening! Janette pushed him away and moved back. “Did I hear you correctly? You expect me to forget everything, act like it never happened and start over?” she snickered as she stared at him with a scowl on her face. “Do I look like a fool to you? What do you take me for?” she snapped at him, fighting back the curses she desperately wanted to rain on him. She was so pissed; so pissed t
7. Lucas sat in his office, his mind a rollercoaster of thoughts. Ever since his encounter with Janette, he had been finding it hard to think straight. He would zone out at intervals, and his best friend, Alan could do nothing but watch him. “You do know sulking and getting lost in your world wouldn’t bring her back, right?” Alan tapped Lucas, who sucked in a breath. “I have pleaded, Alan. I pleaded with her to forgive me, but she acts like I don’t even exist.” he replied and Alan merely shook his head. “You need to see things from her own perspective, dude. Do you have any idea the weight of what she went through? She could have gone through emotional trauma. Who knows whether she even suffered depression? She left the city and is back now after making a name for herself. Do you have any idea what she had to endure to come this far? You don’t expect her to run into your arms simply because you apologized.” Alan explained. Lucas thought about his words. “You might be right,
8. Janette rushed into the school and headed for Ethan's class immediately. The teacher had explained to her that during lunch, he had made a friend with one of his mates. A little girl tried opening the jar of peanut butter her mum gave her but couldn't and Ethan offered to help. Immediately he opened it, he passed out. She barged in, panting as she used her eyes to search for the teacher, but she was nowhere to be found. “He is in the school infirmary, ma'am.” The teacher, who was there to watch over the children, informed her, and she nodded, rushing to the infirmary at once. When she got there, they took her directly to Ethan's ward, and tears rolled down her cheeks when she entered and saw that he was asleep. “You have nothing to worry about. We've been able to stabilize him. He should be up any minute from now.” Mrs. Johnson said. Janet sighed, running her hands through her hair. “I put it in his file that he was allergic to peanut butter. Didn't you go through it?”
9. When they got home, she quickly rushed to the drawer where she usually kept his medications and crouched down to his level. "Whatever you do, do not take peanut butter again, okay?" she said as she gave him water to drink before slipping the drug into his mouth. After swallowing it, he nodded at her with a cute smile on his face. She patted his head and carried him in her arms as she took him to his room. "Get some sleep, okay? You'll be fine when you wake up." she smiled and gently placed him on the bed. She removed his shoes and uniform and covered him with the duvet. Ethan snuggled into the duvet with a sigh. Her phone rang and she took it. A smile found its way to her lips when she saw that it was Liam calling and it was even a video call. "It's Liam calling," she announced and Ethan quickly sat up as she took the call. Liam's face lit up the minute his face came on the screen. "Uncle!" Ethan exclaimed, causing him to chuckle softly. "Aren't you a cutie? Why a
10. NEXT DAY… That morning, Sophia was already at the house, ready to take care of Ethan. She smiled as she rang the doorbell. “Coming!” Janette yelled from the kitchen, rinsed her hands with water and cleaned it before leaving to get the door. When she opened the door and saw Sophia, her eyes widened. “Sophia,” she called, shock evident on her face. She wasn’t expecting her to come this early. “You’re here early.” Sophia smiled. “Yes, good morning, ma’am. It’s my first day of work at your place. First impressions matter, don’t you think?” she asked, and Janette grinned. “I guess,” she moved aside. “Come in,” she said, and. Sophia nodded before walking into the house. “Where’s Ethan?” she asked, looking around. “He is still asleep in his room. You could go wake him up.” Janette suggested, and she nodded, leaving for Ethan’s room immediately. Janette checked the wall clock. It was just a few minutes past six. ‘Is Sophia this diligent?’ she wondered, and glanced at
11. Janette burst through the doors of the hospital and Rosa rushed to her the minute she saw her. She had gotten ready as quickly as she could. “Ma’am,” Rosa called as Janette approached her. “Where is he?” Janette asked, her expression unreadable. “I asked him to wait in your office.” Rosa answered and Janette nodded before storming to her office. When she got there, she threw the doors open, alerting Lucas of her presence. He stood to his feet and walked up to her, a small smile on his face. Janette didn’t return his smile, instead she looked like she couldn’t wait to deal the hell with him right now. “Good morning, Jane.” he greeted with a warm smile that only made her sick to the stomach. “What the heck are you doing here?” she asked, her face contorting into a frown. She sounded so harsh and icy that Lucas didn’t know when he shuddered. He cleared his throat. “I came to see you.” he answered and she raised an eyebrow. “You came to see me? What for?” she asked.
12. Lucas returned to his office and took a seat. He swayed in his chair and heaved a deep breath. His eyes gazed blankly at the wall as he thought about Janette's words. He knew he had hurt her deeply, and he didn't blame her for feeling the way she did. He deserved her anger, her hatred, and her resentment. But he couldn't give up. He couldn't lose hope. He had to make things right, not just for himself, but for their son, Ethan. He wanted to be a good father and a good partner as well. He wanted to show her the love he had deprived her of in the past. Lucas took a deep breath and stood up from his chair. He walked over to the window and stared out at the city. He sighed as he watched people go about their daily lives. He returned to his chair and took a seat. His personal assistant walked into the office with a smile and bowed slightly. “Sir, you have a meeting with the board of directors in fifteen minutes. They will be at the conference room anytime soon.” Lucas sighed
042."Aunt Maryanne, you're making this look harder than it already is," Janette sighed and stood to her feet. "I never intended to get married to him due to gratitude or anything. I just..." she ruffled her hair as she paced the ward room. "I thought I would fall in love with him. I didn't know Lucas was going to spring back into my life, Aunt Maryanne. I'm just devastated."Aunt Maryanne reached out to touch her hand. "You are a strong lady, Janette. And... you are way too nice for your own good. You don't marry someone to show that you're grateful to them. You marry them because you love them. Marriage isn't a game of dice, my dear. And I'm not even telling you this because I'm Lucas' Aunt and I want you two to be together. I'm saying this because I care about you. Whatever you choose, I will support you, but I won't let you go into something you aren't sure of."Janette sighed, feeling a wave of relief wash over her at Aunt Maryanne's words. She rushed to Aunt Maryanne and hugged
041. A week later... "How are you doing today, Aunt Maryanne?" Janette asked with a smile as she walked into Aunt Maryanne's ward. Aunt Maryanne sat up with a smile. "I'm feeling a lot better. The migraines are gone and I can't wait to get out of here soon," she said and Janette looked up at her. "I didn't mean it like that sweetie. I meant to leave the hospital, not you of course. The smell of medicine and disinfectant makes me sick, sugar." Janette chuckled. "I get you. And you're recovering rapidly. If this keeps up, I'm sure you would be discharged next weekend." Aunt Maryanne couldn't help her joy. "That's wonderful news. Now," she winked at Janette. "How about the surprise you said you had for me? You know I like me some good unexpected things, right?" Janette smiled. "The surprise is on his way. Sophia is bringing him." "Who's Sophia?" Aunt Maryanne asked. Janette beamed. "You will know when they get here," she said and sighed. "Give me a few minutes. I'll be right bac
040.LUCAS' MANSION "You did what?!" Alan couldn't believe what he just heard. "You cried and grabbed onto her legs?" he asked, laughing and walking around the room.Lucas swayed the wine glass in his hand, the contents of the wine swirling as he stared into space. "It's not funny, Alan." he sighed, lowering his head.Alan laughed again and clapped his hands. "It's funny as fuck, Lucas," he chuckled again. "Who would have thought that the feared and famous billionaire Lucas Harry would be so vulnerable to the extent of crying and clinging to his ex wife for dear life?"Lucas scoffed. "Laugh one more time and I'll cut your allowance. You know I can do that!" he threatened.Alan scoffed. "Oh please, that won't affect me. I could just leave your company and finally take over my father's company. I already have enough money to get by." Lucas rolled his eyes and sat down, his expression turning thoughtful. He had only done that at the spur of the moment. He used to be aloof and cold to o
039.Lucas couldn’t believe what he was doing. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine that he would be crying in front of Janette. He was just overwhelmed and couldn’t get control over his emotions. But that wasn’t even his concern right now. He was in her arms. In her fucking arms. He never thought he’d see the day, but here in was, the arms of the one woman that he loved so much. Lucas closed his eyes to savor the moment.Janette stared at him, her heart aching and softening at the same time. Why was the matter of the heart so complicated? She sneered. How can someone make you hurt and love at the same time?“Lucas,” she called. “I think that’s enough. People are coming, and I think you need to get off right now.”Lucas didn’t want to leave her, but he wouldn’t want any news flying around about her either. He reluctantly pulled away from the hug and Janette quickly stood to her feet. “I think we are done here. Goodnight, Mr. Harry.” she didn’t wait for him to say anything else b
038.Lucas stared at Janette all through his gala, his mind filled with thoughts of what Aunt Maryanne had told him. Had she really changed that much that he didn’t know her anymore? He wouldn’t blame her, though. It was all his fault. He was the reason she’s changed and is now cold and indifferent towards him.Janette just wanted the gala to be over so she could leave. Sitting here with him was very uncomfortable for her. When it was time for auctions, she folded her arms without showing any interest in it.Meanwhile, Rosa and Alan faced each other, Rosa feeling like tearing him to shreds. “Well, my night just got bad. What the heck are you doing on the same table with me?” she asked.Alan chuckled while rubbing the back of his head nervously. “Can’t you see it? Destiny is bringing us together. I think we are meant to be.”Rosa snorted. “You really think so highly of yourself, don’t you? Do you think any woman would want to be with a bully like you?”“C’mon, Rosa, that was years ago.
037.THE GALALucas sat in the gala, his gaze fixed on the door as he waited for Janette to walk in. He had been able to pull some strings into making her sit at the same table with him while Rosa would sit at the sane table with Alan so they could talk and make amends. Each second that passed felt like forever as he really wanted to see her. He kept tapping his feet and checking his wrist watch, wondering what was taking her so long.A few minutes later, he looked up, his eyes widening as he saw Janette walking in with Rosa behind her. She looked absolutely stunning in a black glittering gown that stopped at her feet, complementing her fine porcelain skin tone and giving her the sophisticated CEO appearance. He was almost tempted to spring to his feet and hug her then tell everyone that she was his wife, but he knew she would chop his head off if he tried, so he patiently waited as they led her to his seat. He stood up and walked away. If she saw him, she might ask for the seats to b
036.Aunt Maryanne was being attended to by Rosa when Janette rushed into the ward. She stopped in front of Aunt Maryanne’s bed, wondering if Aunt Maryanne would recognize her.Aunt Maryanne’s eyes widened on seeing Janette. Her eyes first darted to the name tag on Janette’s coat before returning to Janette’s face. “Jane,” she called, her voice barely above a whisper. It’s been years since she last saw her, and she couldn’t believe Janette was standing right in front of her, looking all stunning abs slightly different from years ago. “Is this really you?” she asked, stretching out her hands to Janette.A tear dropped from Janette’s eyes as she rushed to hold Aunt Maryanne’s hand and placed it on her cheek. She really wanted to hug her, but she couldn’t because the woman hadn’t fully recovered. “Aunt Maryanne,” Janette called, and they smiled at each other. “I missed you so much.”Aunt Maryanne rubbed Janette’s cheeks and smiled. “It’s nice to see you again after so many years. How hav
035. "It's surprising that you finally found a family. Who's that little boy? Did you adopt him because I know you can't bear a child, not after the countless abortion you've done." "Abortion?" Liam whispered. Janette stood to her feet. "Bella," she gritted her teeth. "What are you doing here?" Bella snickered. "What am I doing here?" she sneered. "What? Don't I deserve to be here? Not everyone is as miserable as you are, barren woman." Janette's fist tightened. "For a slut and homewrecker, you sure have some nerves, don't you?" she asked, closing the distance between her and Bella, whose confident mask slipped off immediately. Janette not only had an angry expression but a don't-mess-with-me kinda aura. "Take those stupid words you said back... immediately." Bella scoffed. "Why should I? They are true," she snickered and walked past Janette to face Liam. "Is this your new chick, Janette? I bet he doesn't know the kind of person you are," Bella batted her lashes at Liam, who look
034. Janette paced the living room as she waited for Liam to come pick them up. He'd already told them he was on his way, and she kept praying that he made it; that he wasn't just telling her lies. They were to go out for family dinner today, and this was the last chance she was giving him to prove himself. To prove that he really cared for their family. Soon, they heard the honk of a car. "Uncle Liam is here!" Ethan yelled as he rushed down the stairs. "Careful, Ethan!" Sophia rushed after him and was able to scoop him into her arms before he got to the end of the stairs. "Whoa, aren't you excited today." she chuckled, descending the stairs and setting him down. Ethan giggled, rushing into Janette's arms. "Oh my little ray of sunshine," she pecked his forehead. "You're a fine young man." Ethan smiled, wrapping his tiny arms around Janette. "You're beautiful, Mommy," he said, his smile so innocent that Janette couldn't resist kissing his cheeks. Janette turned to face Sophia. "
