Chapter 5
Leilani Moore The day I've been waiting for was finally here. It was Derek's birthday. The villa was already filled with prestigious people Derek had invited. Most of them were his business partners. Derek invited his mistress to the birthday party, and she dared showed her face. The audacity! "Hi!" I heard an unfamiliar voice behind me, and I turned around. Speak of the devil. It was his mistress. "Hi! My husband's friend, right?" Anger flickered on her face when I addressed her that way. That was what I wanted. She was nothing but a friend. At least, that was how he introduced her to me. "Hmm," She hummed, faking a smile. "Enjoy the party. Excuse me," I walked away from her and went to join Derek. "Honey, you are here..." He wrapped an arm around my waist, holding a glass of wine with the other one. "Mrs Grant... It's been a while," Mr. James, one of Derek's business partners smiled at me. "You look gorgeous tonight... As always," Derek's friend, Desmond, smiled at me, and I returned his smile. "Thank you," "Hi!" Derek quickly removed his hand from my waist as soon as his mistress walked up to us. I guess he loved her too much and was afraid of hurting her. "Hi, everyone," She grinned from ear to ear. "My name is Evelyn," She extended her hand to Desmond for a handshake as she continued. "Derek has told me a lot about you. It's nice to finally meet you in person," "Eve, what are you doing?" Derek asked uncomfortably. "Who is she, Derek?" Desmond ask, turning to Derek and ignoring her hand which she dropped, embarrassed. "Oh... She?" Derek paused, glancing at me. "She... She's my friend. Yes, she's just a friend," He stuttered, smiling nervously. Evelyn's face went sour with sadness as she bit her lip. What was she expecting? That Derek will introduce her as his wife or what? "Hey, everyone," Our attention was drawn to the stage where the MC was standing and holding a microphone close to his mouth. "Let's begin the celebration. Mr. Derek Grant, please come up to the stage," He invited Derek. Everyone applauded Derek as he mounted to the stage and took the mic from the MC and began his speech. "Thank you everyone for being here tonight. Your presence is appreciated..." He paused, his grip around the mic becoming firm as he smiled. "This wouldn't have been possible without my wife. Thank you for being in my life, sweetheart. I will forever cherish you " He didn't call my name, so maybe I wasn't the one he was appreciating. Not that I wanted the fake appreciation though. After his speech, the MC invited me to the stage to give a speech. "Good evening everyone, and you are welcome to this honourable party. I'm grateful to everyone of you for taking out your time to be present here today..." I paused, turning to Derek who was still on the stage with me. "Happiest birthday to you, Derek. I'm happy to be here with you tonight..." I paused, then signaled the disc jockey to play my gift for Derek. "I have prepared a beautiful gift for you on this special day, because you deserve all the beautiful things of life, Derek," He smiled at me excitedly. That smile that made my skin crawl with disgust. The light went off, revealing a better view of the video slides playing on the led wall. It was pictures of myself and Derek, from when we started dating, the day we got married, and many more moments. 'This is beautiful' 'This brought tears to my eyes. I love this' 'They are perfect together' Hearing those comments made me scoff. Beautiful indeed. Derek walked over to me, pulling me in for a warm embrace as he sobbed. A fake sob, actually. "Thank you for everything, Leilani. I love you so much," He whispered to me. Can someone please tell him to be patient until the end, please? "Of course, you do," My lips curled up in a smirk. 'Wh...what is this?' 'What is going on?' 'Isn't that Mr. Grant?' 'What the hell is happening?' I haven't been so satisfied in my entire life, hearing those murmurs from the audience as they all gazed at the led wall, displaying pictures of Derek with his mistress. 'I missed you, Evelyn. The sex was so good. That bitch Leilani could never satisfy me like that' Derek pulled away immediately he heard his own voice from the video, his eyes narrowing as he turned to face the led wall. "Wh... what is this?" His voice quivered as he looked at me and back to the led wall, his eyes narrowed. "Wh...what is this?" I blinked my eyes, staring at the led wall. "De... Derek... Wh... what is this?" my voice quivered, my lips trembling, tears brimming in my eyes as I looked at him. "This is not true, right? Th...that is photoshopped, right? You are not cheating on me, right?" I shook my head, pointing my trembling hand forward. The video had pictures of him kissing the Evelyn lady, moments of them inside a pool, when they went on vacation together, videos of them making out, and pictures of their kids which I made sure I had their faces blurred out. The kids were innocent. I wasn't that heartless to expose them to the world. I had no idea how the anonymous source got everything, or who he or she was, but I was grateful for this. What mattered to me was the evidence. He shook his head as he said. "It's not what you think, babe. I can explain. This...this... this is not true," how he could still look into my eyes and lie to me even in front of everyone here proved how much of a scum he was. What was he thinking? That I'm stupid? "What? You are going to deny it? Are you going to deny that?" I yelled at him, breaking down in tears. My body trembled as I turned to face the crowd, my eyes landed on Evelyn. Why the fuck shouldn't I disgrace her along with him? They did it together. I pointed my shaky hand toward Evelyn who was already covering her face shamefully. "Yo...you told me there was nothing between you two, Derek... You told me she was just your friend! You denied it when your secretary told me that you were married to her!" I yelled, sinking my fingers into my hair and ruffling it like I'd lost it. Everyone turned their attention to Evelyn. "She is the bitch?" "She had the effrontery to show up here. How shameless of her," "The audacity!" "Ruining another woman's home. You must really be proud of being shameless," "I wonder how she is going to explain to her kids that they were illegitimate kids," This was so satisfying. I turned to Derek, tears streaming down my cheeks as I spoke. "Why, Derek? I loved you with everything in me. You told me you loved me. Why did you do this to us?" I sobbed. "He is so shameless!" "He don't deserve your tears. Don't cry because of that bastard," "Men like this should be trashed. This is disgusting," "Poor woman. She didn't deserve this," "Gosh! This is why I don't like men. They'll always disgrace you," Seeing the shame on Derek's face gave me this satisfaction. "Ba... babe... I can explain this. You need to listen to me, please..." His voice shook, his body trembling as he reached his hand to touch me, but I took a step back. "Should I still believe you after you looked into my eyes and told me there was nothing between you two? Would you believe me if the table was turned around?" I snarled at him, more tears streaming down my cheeks, and he went silent, lowering his gaze. I think I should consider acting because everything looked so real. From pretending not to know that he was cheating on me, to I turned to the crowd and said. "As of today henceforth, Moore's corporation will cease partnership with Grant's corporation. Every ongoing business between the two corporation has hence been stopped..." I paused, taking my attention to Derek. "I also want to announce the termination of my marriage with Derek Grant. Today, I, Leilani Moore, cease to be Derek Grant's wife," I let my hand down beside me. 'Yes! He deserves that' 'How could he cheat on such a beautiful woman?' 'Gosh! This is why I hate men' 'Look at that bastard. So stupid' I took out the signed divorce papers I had folded under my dress, and threw it on his face as I stated boldly. "Sign the damn divorce papers and let's end this, Derek," I sniffled back my tears, wiping my face with the back of my palm. "Ba...babe... You can't do this, please. We can sort this out," He pleaded with me like his life depended on it. He wasn't pleading because he loved me. He was doing this because my company has stopped cooperating with him. My wealth, my influence... Those were what he always cared about. He never loved nor respected me but what I had to offer him...Chapter 6: The Breaking Point Leilani Moore I had finally come back home, or at least, what used to feel like home. My feet felt like they were moving on their own, each step toward the living room heavier than the last. The silence inside was deafening, yet it felt comforting like a quiet that was just waiting to swallow me whole. As soon as I closed the door behind me, the dam inside me broke. The tears started flowing uncontrollably like a river finally freed from the dam that had been holding it back. I collapsed onto the couch, burying my face in my hands as sobs wracked my body. I felt like I was being suffocated by the weight of everything…the betrayal, the humiliation, the lies. How could Derek do this to me? To us? All those years together, all the love I had given him, and this was how he repaid me? I have tried my best, to control how I felt, and to not lash out up to the point I went to court and requested divorce papers and at this point, I could only let the tears fa
Chapter 7:Unfinished BusinessLeilani MooreI awoke to dazzling sunlight flooding through the curtains, and my head pounded like a thousand sledgehammers. I sat up slowly, my body throbbing from all that had happened. I had not gotten a good night's sleep. Everything that had happened had filled my mind, particularly the phone call from that unidentified person. Despite my best efforts to avoid thinking about it, the recollections continued to whirl in my head. I let out a deep breath and squeeze my eyes shut one more time. The pain in my head seemed to reflect the chaos inside me, and I couldn’t help but wonder how long it would take to heal. Maybe never.I stumbled out of bed, dragging my feet across the floor as I made my way to the bathroom. I splashed cold water on my face, hoping it would clear my mind, but all it did was amplify the headache. I stood there for a moment, looking at my reflection in the mirror. My eyes were puffy from crying, and my hair was a tangled mess. I di
Chapter 8: The CallLeilani MooreTwo weeks had passed since I had walked out of my marriage and shut the door on Derek’s face. Two weeks of silence and peace. Two weeks of not having to deal with his lies, his deception, and his hollow apologies. In those two weeks, I had managed to regain some of the composure I had lost, slowly putting myself back together, piece by piece. My mind was no longer constantly racing, I wasn’t sad anymore. I wasn’t heartbroken. It felt almost foreign to me, this new feeling of calm, but I welcomed it. The house was quiet, no more running away from the truth. I could breathe again, and for the first time in a long while, it felt like I was in control.I stepped into the living room and I saw my parents laughing at whatever joke they were saying, my mother stopped and turned to look at me with a wide smile on her face. “You are back Leilani,” she said and I nodded approaching them.“What’s making you so happy?” I asked and my mom chuckled again.“Ruth is
Chapter 9: Tensions UnspokenLeilani MooreI walked into the office, trying to shake off the unsettling anger brewing inside of me, I wondered what Jaxon truly wanted and why he chose this time of all time to disturb me. The click of my heels echoed through the hallway. As I passed by the glass walls of the conference room, I paused, noticing a figure at the end of the hallway. Jaxon. My heart gave an unexpected lurch in my chest, the same kind of flutter I hated to admit had been there for years even when I thought it was all gone but it takes only a glance at him again to remind me it was never gone. His back was turned, but I could already feel the familiar heat that only his presence could stir.I squared my shoulders and marched toward him, anger fueling each step. He had no business being here. I really need to put him in his place and he needs to stop appearing wherever I am, I don’t know what gave him the right and thoughts he ca
Chapter 10: Lingering ShadowsLeilani MooreI felt him before I saw him.A soft pressure at my back, the heat of his chest brushing against mine as his presence filled the space behind me. My breath caught. The warmth of him was unmistakable. It was Jaxon.“Querida,” his voice was a hushed whisper, sending a shiver down my spine. The sound of the nickname he only called me from his lips was both familiar and dangerous. He leaned in closer, his lips barely brushing my ear, the warm breath sending a tremor through me.I swallowed, trying to hold onto the reality of the moment, but there was no escaping him, no fighting the pull. His hands slid over my arms, gentle but insistent, as though he knew exactly how to make my body respond to him. He moved closer, pressing his body against mine. His strength was a force that I couldn’t ignore, even if I wanted to. The heat between us was electric, charged with something both old and new.H
Chapter 11: His FuryDerek GrantI sat in the back of the sleek black car, the city blurring by as I replayed everything in my mind. My office had felt like a cage, the walls pressing in around me as the weight of everything I had worked for came crashing down. Leilani had made her move, and I was powerless to stop her. She had been so meticulous, so cold, gathering everything she needed to destroy me and she had done it effortlessly. The news of Moore Corporation pulling out had been the final blow. The deal that was supposed to secure my future, the cornerstone of everything I had built, had evaporated because of her. I should have been more careful, I had let my guard down thinking she trusted me enough and she would never try to find out what was happening but I was wrong, she had been planning this and I wondered how long she had the plans going, how long she has been waiting to finally destroy me. I thought I had it all, planned out and figured
Chapter 12: A Sister's ReturnLeilani MooreWe finally broke from the hug, a mixture of excitement and nervousness bubbling in my chest. Ruth had always been the free spirit in the family, the one who couldn't be tied down to anything for too long. Her absence had left a gap, one I hadn't really noticed until now that she was back. There was a warmth to her presence, a familiar glow that seemed to fill the house as she walked in."You look amazing," I said looking at her. Ruth looked exactly the same in some ways, tall, and confident, with that unmistakable glint in her eyes. But there was something softer about her now, a gentleness I hadn't expected. The sudden opening of my door caught both of us attention, I turned and saw Father and Mother walking in, they looked so excited to see her, and I couldn’t blame them, anyone will feel the same way if you haven’t seen your daughter for years.“I can see you are already catching up with your sister,” Father said and Ruth chuckled “Of co
Chapter 13: A ThoughtLeilani Moore I was just finishing up the last of my reports for the day when my phone buzzed on the desk. I swiveled around, reaching for it instinctively, and saw Ruth’s name flash across the screen.“Come meet me for a late lunch? I missed you today!”I glanced at the clock, it was two in the afternoon. I should’ve been buried in work, catching up on the endless stream of emails that had piled up while I’d been distracted by everything else in my life. The project site needed attention, and I had yet to review the contractor’s proposals. But then I thought about Ruth. She’d been gone for so long. She had left a hole in my life that I hadn’t even realized until she returned.I know how much this late lunch date will mean to her, she might want to rekindle the old bond between us, I let out a deep breath as I stared at the screen for a moment, my finger hovering over the keys. I wanted to decline. I needed to get things done. But I knew she’d understand. It was

Chapter 14: A Business Proposal Leilani MooreI groaned, barely opening my eyes as the shrill ring of my phone cut through the stillness of my room. The bed felt like a haven, and I was reluctant to leave it, especially after the long night I’d had. My eyes were heavy with the remnants of sleep, my mind foggy, but the persistent ring of my phone was not letting up.I had planned to stay in today, to allow myself a quiet morning free from interruptions, and to recover from the mental exhaustion of the previous few days. But clearly and unfortunately, life had other plans.I fumbled for the phone on the bedside table, still half-dazed, and answered without checking the caller ID.“Hello?” My voice was hoarse, laced with the sleep I hadn’t yet shaken off.“Querida,” came Jaxon’s voice, smooth and confident, the kind of voice that could wake anyone up instantly. My heart gave a little jolt at that name, even though it had been a long he called me just hearing again always felt like the f
