The telephone on Lisa's desk buzzed with a beeping sound as it vibrated slowly, jolting Lisa off her realm. She was busy going through the proposal the company had received in the past few days, with all her attention directed on it.

She hesitated before picking the receiver up, placing it softly on her left ear. “Hello…" She uttered lazily, her voice was dried with no emotion in it.

“Hello, Ms. Lisa.” The voice rang against her ear from the receiver, it was low but audible enough to Lisa's hearing. “This is Milan on the line, ma'am.”

“Oh, Milan.” Lisa repeated slowly. “What is it? I'm in the middle of something important, your message should be delivered fast and keep it short too.”

Milan nodded, even when she knows her boss couldn't see her at that moment. “Sure, ma'am. It's about the Vizio's Corp, I already did as requested, ma'am.” She said, maintaining her professional demeanor as she speaks.

Lisa was impatient, not wanting to know whether she's done with her talk or not, she cuts

Lisa sighed as she dropped the call and returned her phone in the chest pocket of her shirt. She turned towards Milan quickly, her brows raised.“How many minutes do I have to spend on the road before I get to my destination?” She requested, her voice demanding as she tries to sound interested in the enquiry.“It's a twenty-five minute drive from here, ma'am.” Milan replied to her hastily, sounding calculative. “Since it's almost half past six, you should be there on time, ma'am —right before the scheduled time, I guess.”Lisa nodded slowly, her bored expression on her face. “Oh, I see.” She blurted out. “I should get going, so I won't be the one to delay him.”“Is it okay for you to go alone, ma'am?” Milan enquired, threading her words careful, and her voice was filled with concern. “If you are feeling otherwise, I'll suggest you should allow me to go with you, Ms. Lisa —just In case you are not comfortable with him.”Lisa's lips curled up in a sly smile. “There is nothing to worry ab

Mr. Vizio's car arrived at the restaurant where the Feller's Firm had reserved for the brief meeting. He was mesmerized the environment as he nodded in satisfaction, this was very much up to his taste —just as he love it."It's means the company owner herself is loaded too." Mr. Vizio said to his personal assistant."Yeah. Who doesn't know the Feller's Firm in States?" Mr. Vizio's secretary, Blake, responded with a rhetorical question. "The company might be quite popular in States but no one knows who has been operating the company for the past few years except her staffs —it's only proven that she's a female.""Quite an interesting story, I would say." Mr. Vizio uttered with a lopsided smirk. "She's not only loaded but a woman with secrets and her company has the popularity in States?""You are right!" Blake nodded in agreement. "There are many rumor surrounding her though —some rumored that she was too young to handle the company alone then, since she inherited the company from her p

Despite the early hour, the small chapel was beginning to fill up with people —and the air that was starting to tense up wasn't welcoming or cheerful.Groups of people stood huddled together in hushed conversations, their breath visible in the chilly air. In the front row, a woman sat alone, her shoulders shaking with silent sobs —it was aunt Elsie.A few rows back, two men sat with their heads bowed, their faces etched with sorrow. As more people filed in, the chapel became crowded and stifling. The air was heavy with the scents of flowers and grief. Soon, a lady clad in a black lengthy gown and a black hat to fit strutted through the marbled floors of the chapel, joining aunt Elsie —her face was clouded in pains and maybe guilt. At the front of the chapel, a casket rested on a simple stand, flanked by two vases filled with white lilies. The scene was eerie in its stillness, despite the heavy weight of sadness. As the appointed time drew near, the murmurs in the crowd died down, leavi

Lisa and Herzl were both sitting in the large sitting room, both of them were engrossed in the late evening show they were both watching. The soft door on the oak door snapped them out of their world back to reality as they both turned their heads towards the door.“I'll go get the door, mom…" Herzl volunteered and made to get up, but Lisa's reflex kicked in as she quickly grabbed him by his wrist, pinning him back on the couch.“What's going on, mom? Why didn't you want me to answer the door?” Herzl asked, a puzzled look on his face.“I… I have a bad feeling about this…" Lisa said, her eyes darting between the door and her son —she did not understand why she was having that kind of feeling all of a sudden.“A bad feeling? What do you mean?” Herzl asked, trying to make sense of what his mother was saying.Just then, the knock came up again, this time more insistently. The two of them looked at each other, their faces pale with fear —why would anyone knock on the door instead of ringing

“What did she ever do to you, Dwayne? Why do you hate her this much?”“I don't hate her, Lisa.” Dwayne stated, his voice softer. “I just can't have her in my life —I don't want her anywhere around me, and you inclusive.”“There is more to it than you aren't saying, Dwayne.” She pointed out. “You can't just keep repeating the same thing without having your reason for it, it just doesn't make any sense.”“Stop questioning me —it's really looks like you are forcing words into my mouth.” Dwayne told her. “Yes, I have my reasons for doing all of these; this is my little way of keeping you and Herzl safe from harm. I can't let the same old mistake of mine repeat itself!”“But that doesn't mean you shouldn't attend the funeral service earlier today, that was your last chance, Dwayne.” She enunciated. “The last chance you've got to pay him your last respect.”Dwayne scoffs with irritation, twitching his nose in disgust. “Respect, you say?” He blurted out. “Kent should have thought about all of

“Sir…" Blake called out as soon as he entered the office.“What is it this time, Blake?” Damien questioned with a displeased expression on his face. “You always seem to show up when I'm in the middle of something important.”“I'm sorry, sir!” He quickly apologized and bowed his head slightly. “I thought it'll be better to tell you this before…"Blake trailed off, which made Damien furious. “Yes…?” He demanded as he hit his fist on the desk before him. “Go on, before what?”“Mr. Sebastian has been here for almost half an hour ago and doesn't want to leave.” Blake uttered, breathing out slowly. “He's demanding for an audience with you.”Damien's face was squeezed in a tight frown, lines visible on his forehead. “Why is he here?” His voice was sharp and stern. “Did I not ask him not to come back to my company ever again —he still has the shell too?”“We've tried to make him leave quietly, but he's being persistent.” Blake explained, unable to meet his boss gaze. “He seems like someone who

Blake was taken aback by Damien's words. “A catch…?” He asked, feeling slightly confused. “What do you mean by that, sir?” Damien let out a laugh, shaking his head. “You really are inexperienced, Blake.” He said with a sneer. “I meant a woman, Blake.” He explained, enjoying the look of shock and embarrassment on the other man's face.“I'm going out for lunch with my new… acquisition.” He grinned, winking at Blake. “You should take a page from my book and find yourself a woman, too.”“You mean that Ms. that owns Feller's Firm?” Blake asked, his eyes widened in realization —this reflects how slow he was at grabbing Damien's illustration.“Who else if not her?” Damien asked with a slight shoulder shrug. “There is something I did not tell you which is the most interesting part is that she turned out to be my high school friend. Intriguing, isn't it?”“Your high school friend?” Blake echoed, clearly shocked by this revelation. “I didn't know you had any high school friends, sir. You never

A pained expression crossed Damien's face, and Lisa felt a twinge of guilt. “You're right, this isn't ethical.” He admitted, running a hand through his hair. “I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought my personal feelings into this. It's just that…you're the only woman I ever loved, and I thought maybe, just maybe, there was a chance for us.”“Us…?” She asked him, wearing an obfuscated look. “Was there ever ‘us’?”Damien looked at her with pleading eyes. “Tell me honestly, Lisa. Is there any chance you might feel the same way?” He replied to her questions with his own question instead. “Look here, Damien.” She started on a simple note. “We just met after a couple of years of being drifted apart from each other —feelings don't grow that easily in a day, Damien.”Damien closed his eyes tightly, breathing in the frustration he's feeling at the moment. Why is she always this way —finding every possibly way to make him and his feeling seem inferior? Why does she never reciprocate his feelings th

As she sat, deep in thought, a sudden buzz broke her concentration. A notification appeared on her phone, with a message from her former fiancé, David."Why is he sending me a message out of the blue?" She read the message, and her breath caught in her throat.Sarah stared at the message sent to her, her curiosity suddenly turned into a mixture of anger and sadness. As Sarah stood at the altar to exchange marital vows with the president, she felt a sense of calm wash over her. It was as if time had slowed down, and everything around her was moving in slow motion. The guests, the priest, the groom - they all seemed to be moving at a fraction of the speed she was used to. Everything felt surreal as if she was in a dream. But she knew this was real. This was her wedding day - another wedding she was holding in that same week she ditched the first one.The priest's words drifted through the air as if they were carried by the wind. "Do you, Sarah, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do you part?"As the words of the vow hung in the air, Sarah felt her heart skip a beat. It was like everything had stopped, and it was just her and the president in the world. She looked into his eyes, a

Sarah had never seen him before which made her curiosity piqued, her gaze on the parcel he stretched out to her. Though she was tempted to take the parcel from him, she still hesitated as though she was contemplating taking the parcel from him.His unusual warm smile spread wider, urging her to take it from him. Seeing how much she was hesitating, he squatted down to her height, opened her palms, and placed the parcel on them."For you..." He uttered, still wearing his unusual warm smile. His voice was calm but far from the regular manly voice Sarah had heard."What's in the parcel?" She asked, directing her gaze from the man to the parcel in her palms before raising her gaze to meet the man's. "-and why are you giving it to me?""I can read the curiosity in your eyes, lady." He responded quietly, maintaining his calm tone. "Why don't you feed your curiosity by checking it out yourself?"Sarah said nothing in reply and did as the man had suggested. She opened the parcel and couldn't be

Alone on the serene and deserted beach, Sarah sat on the sandy shore, the waves crashing against the beach as if echoing her inner turmoil. The sunset on the horizon in its warm hue of orange failed to bring comfort to the despair that hung over her like a chute. Her eyes were red and swollen, heavy with the weight of sorrow and betrayal. Tears painted her face, the hurt as vast as the sea itself and heavy as a lead. Gerald was pushed aggressively back into the prison, and the warder locked the gate immediately, throwing the keys into his pocket. Gerald hissed in pain as he forcefully hit his knee on the cold floor, bruising it in the process.“I wonder how long you are going to last here with the nonchalant attitude you are putting on, man!” The warder scowled disapprovingly at him, resting lazily on the gaze. “You won't even last three months here —you will be lucky if you do.”Gerald's eyes widened in shock. Three months…? That's a whole lot of time to be detained in a prison, how is he supposed to cope in this kind of surrounding for that long period of time without even knowing his offense? The thought of spending three months locked up in a cell was terrifying as it made his stomach dropped. It was hard to imagine being stuck in such a small space for so long, with nothing to do and no one to talk to. Gerald tried to think of ways to pass the time, but his mind kept returning to the same thou

Gerald's eyes blazed in fury as he banged his hands dangerously on the table, separating them from each other. “I rather remain in this hole than be at your mercy or listen to your petty orders! You can't make me do your bidding!” He growled at her.“Tsk, tsk!” Aunt Elsie twitched her nose in disappointment, unmoved by his rage or threats. “Then what would happen to Lisa? I told you; that your reaction and obedience will determine Lisa's fate, didn't I?”“What are you going to do to Lisa?” Gerald demanded, his heart beating against his rib cage. He couldn't bear the thought of anything happening to her. “Tell me what you want, and I'll do it. Just don't hurt her.”Aunt Elsie's lips stretched into a thin smile, she was loving the desperation in Gerald's eyes —he's the perfect pawn in the game. “I'm glad to see that you're willing to cooperate.” She said, satisfaction evident in her tone. “You're a smart man, Gerald, I think we can work well together.”Gerald hated the way she was talkin

Aunt Elsie smiled broadly, she was right about him. Only someone like him will be needed —he had managed to read her perfectly without getting close to her. She was impressed, and that will only make her want him more.“I don't bargain, yeah…" She uttered, admitting to his words. “—but I'm ready to do so, if it'll please you.”“What do you mean by that?” he asked, his curiosity piqued. “Why would you change your usual tactics just to please me? What do you want from me?”Aunt Elsie's smile widened, she was glad he didn't bite her head off this time —instead, she loved the curiosity in his eyes; that was what she wanted from him anyway, not otherwise.“I've found myself smitten with you, Gerald.” She replied, her voice taking a different turn. “And I would do anything to get what I want from you —I'm not afraid of bargaining this time because I know what I want, and I want it badly.”Gerald was no in for her twist and turns, he wanted her to say whatever thing she's got for him and let
