Jocelyn’s POV
Three days had passed since I regained consciousness but I was yet to see my mother. However, according to her doctor, I would likely see her very soon as her health was improving at a fast rate. After I came to, I made it a mission to gather information on every aspect of Eduardo's life that I may have missed during the last five weeks. Based on what I'd been able to gather so far, he had now gone public with Sofia, and their pictures graced almost all the popular blogs, with most people adoring them and calling their relationship cute. I had also found out that Sofia, whose full name was Sofia Denzel, was a highly influential model and brand ambassador of many luxurious brands. Her father also owned Denzel group, a conglomerate in the United States. Although there were many articles that claimed Eduardo had been married and divorced, the pictures of his ex-wife, who I assumed was me, was not shown in any of them. A mix of pain and anger gnawed at my heart as I opened the comments section under one of them and read some of the harsh comments aloud; “She's probably ugly as hell.” “He did the right thing by divorcing her. I saw her once at the mall and guys, she is the ugliest woman on earth. She's blind in one eye and looks like a toad. Only the heavens know what an attractive man like Eduardo Lopez saw in her.” “Sofia Denzel and him fit together so well. I hope they get married soon.” As soon as I read that certain comment, I left the website and turned off my phone, flames of ire simmering within me as I clutched my hands together. Truth be told, I had no business with Sofia. After all, it was Eduardo Lopez that I married and not her. She just so happened to be his mistress. Even though all the pictures I had seen of the two of them being lovey-dovey had made me sick to my stomach. I didn't know I was crying until tears dropped on my phone screen. “Josie,” Nancy called from behind me and I quickly blinked my tears away. “Don't turn, I'll come sit with you.” She told me before I could turn my head toward her. I was currently sitting in the hospital garden, trying to bask in the gentle breeze of nature but the thinking of Eduardo made that impossible. Sitting beside me, she smiled. “The doctors said you will be discharged in five days. How exciting is that?” “Really?” “Yes, we just finished talking.” “Oh, so what did you talk about?” I asked, as a yawn left my mouth. “Babe,” She whispered, taking my hand in hers. “Something has happened and I want you to always know that I'm always here right by your side, alright?” “Alright,” I nodded, swallowing harshly. “What happened?” “Your mum has passed on,” She dropped the bomb, and I visibly jolted as if someone had thrown hot coal on me. “No way,” I whispered, shaking my head in utter disbelief. “Her doctor told me that she was getting better and that I'd see her tomorrow. Are you sure you heard the right thing?” “I'm so sorry, babe,” She said, squeezing my hand gently. “Believe me when I say I wish I could do more to console you.” “My mum can't be dead, that's impossible,” I huffed. “Is this a sick prank? I'd gladly forgive you if it is but don't prank me like this ever again because it's not funny.” “Oh, sweetheart,” Nancy sighed, eyes brimming with tears as she hugged me tightly. “It will be fine. Everything will be alright.” It was then that I finally allowed my brain to accept the gravity of the situation–I would never see my mum alive again. “The doctor wanted me to break the news to you to make it less painful,” Nancy revealed, as she tightened the embrace. “They said she had a heart disease and a heart transplant was relatively impossible because it had really worsened.” “Can you imagine how much my poor mum must have suffered alone while I toiled for an ungrateful man and his mother?” I wept. “I really am an unfilial daughter. A disgrace is what I am. How are you not disgusted by me?” “I could never be disgusted by you, Josie. Hell, I think you are the strongest woman I know,” Nancy said. “You've gone through a whole damn lot in your twenty four years of life. And you are still here. If anything, I am very impressed by you.” “Really?” “Yes,” Nancy replied. “That's what drew me to you in middle school.” Pulling away from the hug, I said. “I love you, Nancy. Thanks for everything you do. I truly appreciate it.” “I love you too, Josie, and it's my pleasure.” She smiled, and I smiled back. + THREE DAYS LATER Yesterday, my mum was buried in my family’s cemetery beside my father and her parents-in-law, as she had specified in her will, which also stated that I was to inherit all our family's wealth. Hell, I barely knew what to do with myself at that moment and I was supposed to lead a chain of companies. Shaking off the thoughts, I sat down beside Nancy on the couch beside my bed. “Are you ready to go home?” Nancy asked, smiling, and I nodded eagerly. “Babes, I'm more than ready. I can't wait to leave this place.” I was finally going to be discharged from the hospital in two days, and I couldn't help but wonder what the future had in store for me. But one thing was clear; I was going to get my revenge on Eduardo, no matter how long it took me. I would make him pay in ten thousand folds for every pain he had caused me during our marriage. I would come back to teach him a bitter lesson. Just then, a knock came on the door, and Nancy responded, asking the person to come in. A middle-aged man clad in formal wear and a white coat walked in and bowed, which made me exchange confused glances with Nancy. “What's going on?” I asked. “Why are you bowing to me?” Straightening to his full height, he greeted. “Good afternoon, Miss Roswell. I am Dr Carter and am here to tender an apology on behalf of this hospital on the subject of your laboratory results which were tampered with.” “I don't understand,” I uttered. “Your pregnancy test was mistaken for someone else's, and so, you were told you miscarried your baby,” He revealed. “When your child is still very much alive and kicking.” “Does that mean she's still pregnant?” Nancy asked him. “Yes, Miss. She's currently eight weeks gone,” The doctor confirmed. “It's really a miracle baby, given how severe the accident was.” “Did you hear that?” I whispered, gazing at Nancy who nodded fervently. “I'm pregnant.” “Yes, babe,” Nancy beamed. “I'm so happy for you. Congratulations, I'm really going to become an aunt.” Before I could answer, Dr Carter cleared his throat. “Once again, I sincerely apologize on behalf of the hospital.” “It's fine,” I said. “You may leave.” “Very well then,” He said, before exiting the room. “I can't have this baby,” I blurted out and Nancy's smile dropped. “I don't want to have any connection with that scumbag ever again.” “Okay, babe. Just know that I will support whatever decision you make.” Nancy said, squeezing my hand reassuringly.Eduardo’s POV“Eduardo, you are yet to send the money,” Sofia nagged after me, as I made my way to the car. “I need to go shopping. Have you forgotten that tonight is the party I told you about?”“And I told you that I'd only give you the money if you can account for all the money you spent last week.” I retorted as calmly as I could.Huffing, Sofia crossed her arms over her chest. “Don’t tell me that you're being like this over the three million I spent last week. You are bigger than that small amount, so why are you being grumpy?”The tiny bit of patience that I thought I had dissipated at her careless response and I scoffed.“Small amount? You spent a whole three million in a day on some stupid clothes and bags that you'll never use again and you expect me to still give you my hard-earned money,” I spat. “You are nothing more than a wasteful person. In fact, I want you to leave my house immediately.”Sofia's eyes welled up with what I was certain was crocodile tears as she grabbed
Jocelyn’s POVInhaling shakily, I clutched my tote bag as I gazed at the humongous structure that was my husband's mansion. I had gone to the grocery store earlier today after his mother told me to make her seafood boil and some other dishes. As we didn't have most of the ingredients at home, I had to source for them at the grocery store.Initially, I had thought it'd be an easy feat and I'd only spend about thirty minutes there but alas was I wrong.Apparently, today was maintenance day at the grocery store, thus, all shoppers had to wait outside for about an hour before they officially opened. As I trudged into the house, I could only hope my mother-in-law understood that it wasn't my fault. My heart lurched in fear when I saw the slender, middle-aged woman named Agnes sitting cross-legged on the sofa while sipping a glass of red wine.On seeing me, she shook her head as a scoff escaped her.“I was beginning to think you finally ran away with your lover,” She scorned. “But then aga
Jocelyn’s POV“Wake up, you lazy sloth,” Agnes's cold, unforgiving voice wafted into my ears as droplets of cold water trickled down my face.Squeezing my eyes open in sheer fear, I saw her hovering over me, a glass cup in her hand, and a look of disdain planted in her face.“G-Good morning, Madam Agnes,” I stuttered out, as I rushed out of bed. “Do you need something?”“Do I need something?” She mimicked then chuckled incredulously. “It’s seven in the morning and you're still sleeping like a log of wood. Just how lazy and uncouth are you? Did your mother train you at all?”“I'm sorry, ma'am,” I responded, suppressing the urge to cry. “I will go make breakfast now.”“Make breakfast for three,” Agnes sneered. “And put a bottle of champagne in ice. I am expecting a visitor and I don't want anything to go wrong.”“A visitor? Who?” I blurted out, without thinking and she shook her head in negation while eying me venomously.“That's the only thing you know how to do,” She mocked. “Putting

Thank you for coming back to us, Josie. And yes you can see, the doctors here are that g
