(Bright’s POV)

A way out? What’s that supposed to mean? He’s telling me that he knows an escape route to this place? And in my fucking cell, really?

Seriously, I have to stop thinking about what he said. He’s obviously just fucking with me, right? He would have escaped a long time ago if he knew a way to escape.

Unless, he’s not trying to leave.

“Are you eating that?”

I winced when I heard someone speak beside me. I looked at the old man, staring at my food plate like it’s the only thing he cares about in the whole world. When did he get this close to sit beside me?

I didn’t even notice him.

“Uhhh… You mean this apple?” I asked, picking it up to place it on his plate. “It’s yours, old man.”

He gave me a surprised look.

“Woah! Are you really giving that to me?” he asked in disbelief like it’s the most unbelievable thing that has ever happened to his life. “Thank you! Thank you!”

I watched him as he devoured the fruit in his hand.

Judging from his plate and appearance, he seem

  • Deal With The Devil   Chapter 16 Too close

(Bright’s POV) I’m currently at the yard doing labor work together with the other inmates, and the sun is doing a really great job at tiring me out. I have been digging soil for three hours straight already, and I don’t even fucking know what they’re trying to do. It’s like they just got bored, and decided to put us all to work. It would have been better if everyone was working their ass, but those rich bastards are just chilling on the benches with their orange juice with umbrella straws in it. Where’s mine, by the way? I dropped the shovel down, approaching one of the jail guards who is serving orange juice. “Could I have a glass, please?” I asked, my throat feeling parched from the physical work. Having a petite body doesn’t really help me in this place. They really expect that a tiny twig like me could dig a hole in the ground? What are they even trying to find? Treasure? I smiled in relief when the jail guard started to fill me a cup of orange juice when Detective Garcia sud

  • Deal With The Devil   Chapter 17 Impostor

(Detective Garcia's POV)I stared at the picture on my desk. I'm currently inside my office, thinking about what happened at the yard earlier.Specifically, I’m looking at Cole’s mugshot. He looks arrogant, as if the world is a game and he’s the only one playing it right. There’s something off about him, though. He’s not just some run-of-the-mill thug. The way he looks at Bright, the way he protects him—it doesn’t add up.The only reason I got to know this bastard was because of Bright. That insolent bastard decided to sell his information to the media in exchange for some cash. Look what happened to him now. I didn't even have to try to make his life a living hell because he already did it to himself. His uncle's the reason why I'm stuck in this fucking jail. I should have been promoted into a higher position hadn't that selfish freak used his money to replace me.I can't accept the fact that I'm stuck here, watching these prisoners forever. I should be giving around orders, not rece

  • Deal With The Devil   Chapter 18 Just Helping

(Bright's POV) Today is probably one of my most awaited time of the week. I hate the fact that we can only do this twelve times in a month. Do prisons don't know about personal hygiene? Why would make us suffer in our own filth? But then I guess that's why it's called a prison. You're supposed to suffer. Not to feel like you're staying in a five-star hotel. Despite of this being my most awaited time of the week, I can't help but get nervous still. I haven't forgotten about what happened. I just can't. I stand at the edge of the communal showers with a churning stomach. The air smells of soap and damp concrete. There's a line of inmates stand under the spray, laughing and shouting over the sound of rushing water. It's like it's their first time touching water in a thousand years. I hate this part of the day. Every single time. I’d rather bathe alone, but I can’t risk it. Not after last time. The bruises took days to fade, and the trauma will probably last forever. So here I am

(Bright’s POV)Tell me about boredom. This is the time when I start to miss my mobile phone. I should have given it more attention than slumping my back for work. I just hate boredom out of everything in this prison. No—scratch that. I hate Cole the worst.I’m currently here at Sergeant Livioski’s office. It’s my schedule to call today, but I didn’t ring no phones. I stayed in his office, and he didn’t really care.It is cramped and smells faintly of burnt coffee in here. That mug sitting on his desk is probably his third for the day. I sit awkwardly in the chair across from his desk, fiddling with the hem of my shirt. He’s typing something on his ancient computer, ignoring me completely, which is fine by me. I’d rather be anywhere but near Cole right now.Well, I’m sort of busy dreaming about my own thoughts anyway.Ever since that stupid shower incident, I’ve been feeling… weird. Like, I keep replaying it in my head like a cassette tape. The way his hand sl

  • Deal With The Devil   Chapter 20 What Did I Get Into?

(Bright’s POV)Cole—the guy I hated most after my uncle and Detective Garcia—is kissing me. I blinked, wondering if I finally lost it. This couldn't be real. Could it? He’s actually kissing me?No way. Just... no.When he finally pulls back, I stumble a step away from him, my face burning. “What was that?!” I practically shout. He doesn’t look flustered at all. He just stares at me with that same unreadable expression, like he’s waiting to see how I’ll react, while I run out of breath, thinking about what the hell just happened.I touch my lips, still too shocked to form a coherent thought. “You… you can’t just… What the fuck, Cole?!”“Relax,” he says, but his voice is quieter now, almost… soft.“Relax?” I echo, my voice high-pitched. “You just— You kissed me!”“Yeah,” he says, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.I open my mouth to yell at him again, but nothing comes out. My heart is pounding in my chest, and I hate how warm my face fe

  • Deal With The Devil   Chapter 21 Your Lover?!

(Bright’s POV)“What the fuck are you talking about?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Something so evil? What is he going to do? He’s going to pull off his little magic trick and make everyone vanish in this party?Cole didn’t answer. He just looks over his shoulder, scanning the room like he’s watching for someone. His jaw tightens, and before I can press him further, he grabs my arm and pulls me into a dark corner behind a column.“Stay quiet,” he whispered.I try to protest, but he steps closer. His body is practically pinning me to the wall. My eyes widened in surprise. My heart is racing exaggeratedly, and not in the way it usually does when I’m nervous. This is different. His scent is so close—something woodsy and clean—and I hate myself for noticing.“Cole, what—”“Shh,” he cuts me off, nodding toward the party.I follow his gaze and spot a man standing just a few meters away, answering a call. He’s well-dressed, older. I think I’ve seen

(Bright’s POV)I scoffed in disbelief.Who told me?“What is this then? A circus for jokes like to you to fuck around?” I sarcastically retorted. He thinks I’m just going to listen to him speak rudely at me? I don’t care what kind of party they're throwing—be it a stripper party or whatever—as long as they have good drinks for me.He looked at me in disbelief.“You’re not really scared to die, are you?”I gave him a bored stare.I lost the ability to feel fear when my sister disappeared a year ago. I’ve got nothing to fear, but the fact that I might not be able to see her again.“And that’s supposed to be scary?”We were in the middle of bickering when the place suddenly turned quiet. Just then, an old man in a suit steps to the front of the room. He looks like someone who doesn’t get told “no” very often. (Bright’s POV)“Awww!” I groaned as Cole drags me down to a dimly lit hallway. His grip on my wrist was tight enough to make me wince. I stumble to keep up from his pace. I hope he realizes that I don’t have his damn long legs. He’s walking like we’re being chased or something. After Garcia left, he didn’t even let me finish my bottle of wine, and just dragged me out like a kid. But the thing I can’t shake is the look on Cole’s face as he led me away from it all.He didn’t look nervous that Garcia was—possibly caught him with a gun—but he does look annoyed. That’s probably the main reason why he’s dragging me like a sack of potatoes right now. He should have vented his annoyance to Garcia. Not me.Why does it have to be all the time? Argh! When we’re far enough from the noise of the party, he stopped and shoved me back against the cold brick wall. I gasped for air, thinking I just lost the ability to breathe for a second. He caged me with his corded hands lik

(Bright’s POV)I blinked at them.Wait… What did he say? I’m not sure I heard him right. “Fiancée?” I repeated his voice inside my head.Cole didn’t even bother to pay me attention to give me some sort of enlightenment. Like what the hell is he talking about? Me? His fiancée? I didn't sign up for that.As much as I wanted to call his attention, his focus is entirely on the two men staring at him like he’s lost his mind.I think they're what we should be more worried about. They don't even have to say a word for me to know that they don't like what he just said to them. They widened their eyes like it’s the most ridiculous thing they’ve heard.*BLAAAGG!*The older man slammed his hand on the table, making me jump. “What nonsense is this, Cole? Have you completely lost your mind?!”Cole looked at him nonchalantly.“I’m not asking for your approval,” he said flatly.Bryan leaned back in his chair, a smirk tugging at his lips. He looked so amused.

(Bright’s POV)The car door clicked shut behind me as I stepped out. I could hear the sound of my shoes crunching lightly on the gravel as I stood up to look at what's in front of me.I stared up at the massive mansion in front of us. This also feels surreal.Just like Cole’s mansion, this feels like something that came out straight from the magazine. It's modern, sleek, and almost intimidating with its giant glass windows that stretch up like walls. From here, I can see the ocean glittering in the distance. Cool. It's a beach house. I bet they always get their daily dose of vitamin D here.I tend to forget sometimes that this is just a small island. Not that small. But to have all these places in just one island? Yeah. I’d call it very small.I glanced at the man standing in front of me. He’s busy looking at his phone, like he was checking something before he could gesture to me to proceed inside.Cole has been getting busier and busier lately. I’m not e

  • Deal With The Devil   Chapter 34 Tease Him

(Bright’s POV)Being served like a princess wasn’t exactly how I pictured being abducted feels like. The first thing that came to my mind as soon as I found out that a notorious serial killer took me with him—after causing a ruckus inside the maximum security prison where he’s supposed to stay forever—is that I’m going to die in his freaking hands.Cole is unpredictable. I’m trying to use all possible psychology that could explain how he behaves a certain way, but I just don’t understand why he does things he does.Like right now…I bet he spent a lot of money paying these people who made me look like I was born to live as a royalty.I glanced at my reflection in the mirror.“This suit must have cost a fortune,” I mumbled to myself. The intricate details on the fine cloth makes me want to believe that this is something you’d usually see on luxury brands.“You can go when you’re ready,” a male voice spoke from behind me. I turned to look at him. It’s Jerry

(Bright’s POV)I wanted to ask her more questions, but then she suddenly slammed the door right into my face. What the…That was intentional.I was just about to protest when I felt presence behind me. I turned to look behind me, and my lips parted when I saw a bunch of people inside. They look like they’ve been waiting for me.There are at least five of them. Two women are carrying garment bags, a gay man with a case full of makeup, and a couple more holding accessories and shoes.I frowned at their funny looking faces. They look like they’ve stepped straight out of a fashion magazine, and they are looking at me like predators. I don’t like the way they’re looking at me from head to toe, like they’re not seeing me as a person, but a doll they could dress up whatever they like. I have to be honest. It instantly puts me on edge.I didn’t know makeup could scare the shit out of me.“Uhmm… Hello?” I awkwardly said, waving my hand a little. I’m not su

(Bright’s POV)My face heated up as I replayed Cole’s question in my head. He’s smirking at me like he knows exactly what I’m thinking, and it’s infuriating. How could he ask me that kind of question? This idiot must be enjoying this a lot.I cleared my throat, determined to change the subject.“So... if this isn’t a dream, where are we?” I asked, changing the subject.I was trying to sound casual like I didn't just turn into a tomato for a moment. Honestly, I think I already know the answer, but I’m still trying to convince myself that nothing of this is real. I just can’t get enough of the fact that I am here standing in front of Cole in a paradise-like place. And it only means one thing! I am his hostage on this lone island.Cole leaned back in his chair, his smirk softening into something almost lazy. It’s like he’s getting tired of me asking him the same stupid question. Well, what am I supposed to do? “I already told you. You’re in my territory.”I

(Bright’s POV)I stared at Livioski for a moment before finally releasing an amused chuckle. Nobody told me this guy was a good actor. He can definitely fool anyone with his butler-vibe.I scanned my eyes around the place. What the hell is this place anyway?I brushed my hair back using my hand. I’m not sure how we will get here, but I won’t be surprised if this is a dream. I don’t really remember having this kind of place in prison. This place feels like a paradise. "Where's Cole?" I asked half-jokingly.I don’t even know why he’s the first person I’d look for in such a strange place. I’m not really expecting an answer because I’m a hundred percent sure this is a dream. But to my surprise, Livioski straightened his posture and said, "Follow me."I blinked. "Wait, seriously?"My brows furrowed slightly. Wait… He’s actually here? I thought…I was just fucking around. The heck?He turned his back at me, gesturing for me to walk with him. I hesitated for

  • Deal With The Devil   Chapter 30 Dream or Not?

(Bright's POV)The sound of gunfire echoed through the walls, while I sat in the corner of the cell. My knees are pulled to my chest, with my hands clamped over my ears like a little kid. Each shot feels like a punch to my chest. It was so loud it scares me even when I’m already an adult. It drags me back to that night—the night I lost everything. The sound of the bomb still rings fresh in my mind like it just happened yesterday. The blast. The fire. The screams.“Stop,” I muttered under my breath, rocking slightly. “Please, stop.”The faces of my parents before the bomb blasted at them flashed back into my mind. The smile my Dad made as if to tell me that everything's going to be okay. The fear in my Mom’s eyes.“Take care of your sister.”Those were the words she mouthed. My chest tightened as I remembered Sisa. The nightmare I tried so hard to run away from every single day is back in my head again. How she mysteriously disappeared from me without a tr

(Bright’s POV)I can't fucking move. He’s pinning me firmly on the bed that all I was able to do was squirm like a worm. I panicked when his hand started to go down my private part.“Don't you think about it, Cole!” I angrily warned.I felt him leaned closer, until his lips brushed the skin on my neck. I whimpered silently as I felt his bulge hitting my ass. I can feel it getting bigger every time it touches me. I’m a guy myself, and believe me when I say that this guy’s dick is larger than average.“Stop it!”He didn't listen.Instead, he continued his way inside my pants until his hands already wrapped around my aroused cock.“You know you like it, little bunny,” he sexily whispered in my ears, while his hand started to slowly stroke my private part. I buried my face in the sheets to prevent myself from making nasty noises.I don't want him to think that I’m enjoying this. And I don't want to admit to myself that I am.When he realized that

  • Deal With The Devil   Chapter 28 Punishment

(Bright’s POV)I’m not really expecting him to catch me so soon. Was I that obvious? I mean, yeah, being nice to anyone is definitely not something I normally do. It is usually because I need something from you, or I find you cute—which is definitely not the case here—but the point is he can’t know the truth!Ironically, I didn’t know I’d be such a bad liar as a detective. Lying to Cole isn’t exactly easy either.I need to make up something. THINK FAST!“You know what I mean,” I snapped, feeling the heat of my face. I’m running out of excuses to say. “Just… throw me a bone here. Why did you give yourself up?”Cole set his fork down. I uncomfortably shifted at my seat. He’s making me want to regret everything I did since I entered his cell. He looked at me with that same unreadable expression, and for a second, I think he’s actually going to tell me something real.“Because I felt like it,” he said flatly, like killing a series of people was normal for him.
