Aurora's POV
Dominic's arms constricted around me as if he could feel my hesitation. "You don't have to go back," he said, his voice muffled against my hair.
I shut my eyes, letting the warmth of his arms enfold me. "I have to," I whispered. "If I don't, they'll start looking for me. It'll only make things worse."
He pulled back just enough to peer into my eyes. "They'll never hurt you, Aurora. Not while I'm here."
I smiled wryly, moved by his vehemence, but we both knew I couldn't hide forever. With a reluctant nod, I pulled away and reached for my bag. Dominic followed me to the door, his gaze burning into my back like a silent promise.
"I'll call you," I said softly, stepping outside.
"You'd better," he replied-the tone half-teasing, half-serious.
The car Patrick had sent for me was already waiting in the driveway. I slipped into the backseat, avoiding the driver's curious glance, and leaned back as the car pulled away.
The drive was uneventful, but my mind was anything but quiet. Joanne's voice still rang in my ears, her threats laced with a venom that made my skin crawl. I didn't regret my time with Dominic, but I knew I was walking on a thin line and that one misstep could send everything spiraling out of control.
As the car approached the house, my heart sank. The towering gates opened slowly, revealing the grand estate beyond. The sprawling mansion loomed ahead, its pristine facade as cold and unwelcoming as ever.
I stepped out of the car, the weight of reality settling back onto my shoulders. With every step toward the front door, the world I’d been trying to escape closed in around me.
The house was silent, eerily so, as I stepped inside-heels softly clicking against the marble floor. There was that faint smell of roses in the air courtesy of Joanne's obsession with floral arrangements. I had barely taken a breath when a voice cut through the stillness.
"So, you decided to come back."
I froze mid-step. Patrick was sitting on the leather couch in the sitting room, a glass of whiskey clutched in his hand. His dark eyes bored into me, sharp and calculating, as if he'd been waiting for me all night.
"Where have you been, Aurora?" he asked; his voice sounded deceptively calm.
I straightened my back, refusing to let him daunt me. "I was out," I replied simply, keeping my tone neutral.
A bitter smile twisted Patrick's lips as he stood, the ice in his glass clinking softly. "Out? That's all you're going to say?" He took a step closer, his gaze narrowing. "You've been acting strange lately. Disappearing without a word, sneaking around. If I find out you're seeing another man, I swear, Aurora, I'll kill him. And you. So, you'd better start talking."
My heart pounded in my chest, but I willed myself not to flinch. "I don't owe you an explanation, Patrick," I said resolutely, her eyes steady on his.
His face screwed up with his clenched jaw, and for one charged second, I wondered if he might explode on me. But instead, he emitted a low, mirthless laugh and took a step back. "You'd better remember who you're playing with, Aurora. I'm not a good man to trifle with."
I said nothing more and turned to go upstairs; my hand slightly trembled, it clutched the railing, but I didn't look back.
I entered my room, shut the door behind me, and leaned against it, letting a shuddery breath out. Downstairs, the tension was palpable, but behind this door lay sanctuary for the time being-so I hoped.
I let out a sigh, leaning against the door as my heart raced with every beat. Patrick's threats still lingered in my mind, but it wasn't long before my phone buzzed, tearing me from my thoughts. I picked it up from the bedside table, and Dominic's name flashed across the screen. A slight smile tugged at my lips as I opened his message.
Dominic: "Missing you already, sweetheart. Can't stop thinking how beautiful you looked today. If I close my eyes, I can still feel your touch. Hurry back to me soon, my Aurora."
Heat washed over me as I bit into my lip, the flutter of longing mixing with nervousness. Dominic knew how to make me feel safe, wanted-a world of difference from this oppressive house.
I shook off the tension, feeling it was time to shower and let the water take the stress away. I walked to my wardrobe, pulled out a towel and my robe, and reached for the zipper on my dress. Dominic's words replayed in my head, and I couldn't help but smile.
Sliding out of my dress, I let the material pool to the floor and stepped out of it. I reached behind me and unhooked my bra, tossing it onto the bed as cool air brushed against my skin. Just as I was reaching for the towel, a loud bang made the door fly open.
I gasped, wheeling around to see Patrick standing in the doorway, his face a mask of anger and something darker.
What the hell are you doing?" I yelled, snatching the towel up to cover myself.
Patrick's eyes roamed over me, and his face twisted. "I should be asking you that.
Patrick's eyes, now dark and hungry, stayed fastened on mine. My heart rammed in my chest as I clung tighter to the towel wrapped at my body.
"Patrick, get out!" I barked, stepping backward toward the bed.
And he didn't really listen; the smirk twisting on his lips greeted me as he took a stride closer. "You think you can walk in here looking like that and then just expect me to leave?
I tried to keep my voice level. "This is my room. You have no right to barge in here like this."
Patrick's chuckle was low and predatory. "I have every right. You're supposed to be mine, Aurora. Or have you forgotten that?
Before I could say a thing, he closed the space between us, his hands wrapping around my arms. The towel slipped a little, and I felt the heat of his breath against my neck.
"Patrick, stop," I said firmly, trying to push him away.
He ignored me, his lips brushing against my collarbone. "You've been avoiding me. Maybe you need a reminder of who you belong to."
His touch sent a shiver down my spine, but it wasn't the kind of shiver I wanted. I pressed my hands against his chest, trying to make space between us, but he was too strong.
"Patrick, this isn't right," I said, my voice shaking.
"Why not?" he murmured, his lips trailing up toward my jaw. "You're going to be my wife, Aurora. This is inevitable."
His hands slid down to my waist, tugging at the edge of the towel. I twisted in his grip, trying to break free, but his hold only tightened.
"Stop this," I said again, and my voice was sharper now. "You can't just take what you want, Patrick."
"Can't I?" he countered, his voice dark and dangerous.
He leaned in, his lips finding mine in a bruising kiss. I twisted my head, breaking the contact, and glared at him.
"Enough!" I shrieked, pushing at him with all my strength.
Patrick, surprised for one second, had his eyes narrowing, sizing me up. Then, if fate intervened, his phone shrieked loudly on the bedside table.
The interruption stopped him in his tracks. With a growl of frustration, he let me go and went to check his phone.
Aurora POV I sat on the bed and tried to regulate my racing heart while Patrick's voice was muffled through the door."Hello?" he answered sharply, still sounding annoyed. There was a pause before I heard the unmistakable purr of a woman's voice on the other end of the call."Patrick, where are you?" Eva's voice was soft yet dripped from every syllable with seduction. "I'm waiting for you in your room. I've been so lonely without you."Patrick's tone changed in an instant, his irritation melting into something darker. "Eva, what are you doing in my room?"She gave a low, flirtatious laugh. "I thought I'd surprise you. I'm all ready for you tonight. Don't keep me waiting, darling."There was a moment of silence, and then Patrick muttered something under his breath. “I’ll be there in a minute.”The door to my room swung open briefly, and Patrick looked at me, his face unreadable. “Don’t go anywhere,” he ordered before leaving without another word.I heard his footsteps fade down the ha
I stood there, watching them. The way Patrick touched Eva, the way their bodies moved in sync, it was like watching a performance—a sick, twisted performance meant to humiliate me. I felt my stomach churn, not from jealousy, but from the sheer audacity of it all.I lowered my phone, unable to stomach more. Without a word, I turned and walked away, leaving them to their sordid affair. My legs walked me into the kitchen, where I grasped a glass and turned on the faucet to fill it with water; my hands were shaking. I took a long sip, trying to rinse my mouth from that bitter taste, trying to cool down the boiling of angry feelings inside me.The house was quiet, except for the soft hum of the refrigerator. It was almost serene, a stark contrast to the chaos in my mind. I set the glass down; the clink echoed in the silence as I leaned against the counter, collecting my thoughts. After a few moments, I headed back to my room.Dominic POVMy phone buzzed in my pocket just as I was pouring m
Joanne's P.O.V.Anger simmered just below the surface as I paced the room, my mind racing with suspicion. Aurora had been slipping through my fingers, and it was starting to get on my nerves. She thought she could outsmart me, but she had no idea who she was dealing with. If she ever dared to cross me, I would make sure she understood the price of defiance.Aurora had two choices: either she obeyed me, or I delivered her straight into Leo Levine's hands. I knew how far Leo would go to get his revenge, and if Aurora didn't fall in line, she would learn firsthand what true fear was.Determination hardened my resolve as I marched toward Aurora's room, ready to remind her of exactly where she stood.I barely reached the top of the staircase when I saw Patrick leaning casually against the wall, arms crossed, with a smug smirk playing on his lips. His eyes met mine, and he straightened up, took a step closer."Joanne," he drawled, the same arrogance dripping from his voice. "Don't forget ou
Aurora's POVDominic's hand found mine as we drove through quiet, dimly lit streets. His fingers intertwined with mine in a warm firm hold that sent waves of comfort through me. The tension from the escape started to melt away, replaced by the steady rhythm of his presence beside me.He looked at me then, his eyes softening as they met mine. Without a word, he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to my lips. It was unhurried, intentional, and steeped in a silent promise of protection and love. My heart swelled, and the turmoil of the past hours faded to the back of my mind.I leaned into his shoulder, feeling the heat of his body seep into mine. The hum of the engine, the soft swaying of the car, lulled me into a peaceful haze. For the first time in what felt like forever, I was at ease, wrapped in the safety of his arms.We pulled into the driveway, the car rolling to a gentle stop inside the garage. Dominic squeezed my hand one last time before releasing it-a silent reassurance as we pre
Aurora's POVThe warmth of Dominic's embrace slowly dissipated as I fell deeper into sleep, replaced by an unsettling coldness that crept into my dreams. I found myself standing in a darkened room, shadows swirling around me like an ominous storm. The room felt familiar, yet distorted, as if I were trapped in a twisted version of my own reality.I turned around, searching for an exit, but it seemed the walls closed in on me. My heart pounded hard against my chest, a drumbeat of fear in the void. Then out of nowhere, a sharp voice totally chilled the air."You can't hide forever, Aurora." It was unmistakably Patrick. His sinister manner sent a shiver down my spine as I spun around, looking in all directions in the dark."Leave me alone!" I screamed, my voice shaking with fear combined with defiance.Patrick materialized out of the dark, his eyes glinting with malice. A step closer, and I retreated against the cold, unyielding wall. There was no escape.Patrick's hand brushed against my
Aurora POV "Better," I whispered, managing to give him a small smile. "Thanks to you."He kissed my forehead gently before pulling back a little to look into my eyes. "Good. I need to head out for a business meeting, but I'll be back as soon as I can. Will you be okay here on your own?"I nodded, though the thought of being alone, even in his safe haven, made my stomach twist. But I knew he had responsibilities, and I couldn't hold him back."I am going to be okay," I assured him, forcing a fuller smile.Dominic threw me a glance that told me he was not convinced but dropped it. "I'll let the security team keep an eye on you while I'm away. If you need anything, don't hesitate to call me.""I will," I promised. He kissed me once more, a lingering touch that begged him not to go. Then, with reluctance, he rose from the bed, his muscles rippling with every movement. I couldn't help but admire him, even in this moment of departure. Dominic was strength and protection epitomized, and it r
Aurora POV I shook my head, giving him a small smile. "You're here now. That's all that matters."He brushed the stray lock of hair off my face, the touch gentle. "Let's get you something to eat, and then we can relax."As we walked toward the kitchen, Dominic's phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, his expression turning into a slight frown. "Give me a second to take this," he said, stepping into the hallway.I nodded and went into the kitchen to fix something simple for us. The murmur of his low conversation was faintly audible, but I couldn't catch the words. I busied myself with setting out plates and drinks, trying not to dwell on whatever business had pulled him away even now.A sudden crash upstairs jolted me, and I dropped the glass in my hand. The sound of the shattering glass reverberated around the room as my heart raced furiously in my chest. I ran out to find Dominic already at the foot of the stairs, his eyes keen with concern."What was that?" I asked, shaking."I'l
Aurora's POVI hummed softly, putting the last touches on setting the table, the tantalizing aroma of the just-prepared meal hanging in the air. I settled for something simple but comfortable: roast chicken with vegetables, mashed potatoes, and a light salad. Dominic had been busy all day, and I wanted to make sure he could just relax and have a hearty meal.I looked toward the stairs, wondering what was taking him so long. He had gone upstairs shortly after arriving, and I could tell that something was bothering him. The curiosity was gnawing at me, but I decided not to press. Dominic would share when he was ready.Right on cue, I heard the creak of his feet on the stairs. I turned to see him enter the dining room; his face softened as our eyes met. He was lighter, somehow, as if a weight had been taken off him."Just in time," I smiled, gesturing toward the table. "Dinner's ready."Dominic moved across the room and tugged me gently from behind, wrapping his arms around me as I set t

Dominic’s POVI stared at the flash drive in my hand, my grip tightening. How could I be sure this was the real evidence? Patrick was a snake, I wouldn’t put it past him to hand me something useless just to trap me."How do I know this is real?" I asked, my voice low and dangerous.Patrick smirked, his confidence irritating me. "You don’t. But do you really have a choice, Dominic?"Before I could say another word, a weak but urgent voice cut through the tension."Dominic, don’t trust him!"My entire body froze. My eyes snapped to Aurora, who was still tied to the chair. Her lips were dry, and her eyes were filled with desperation.Patrick cursed under his breath, moving toward her, but I lifted my gun, stopping him in his tracks."What did you just say?" I asked Aurora.Patrick clenched his jaw and glared at her, but the moment he released the cloth gagging her mouth, Aurora gasped for air and spoke again, this time stronger."Dominic, that’s not the real flash drive! I hadn’t expected that.Patrick chuckled, clearly enjoying my shock. "The moment she arrives with the child, Dominic will have no choice but to give up everything for me. His power, his wealth, his loyalty, everything."I narrowed my eyes, stepping closer. "Are you saying you plan to trade his own child for his empire?"Patrick shrugged. "Why not? Dominic isn’t stupid. He’ll do anything to protect what’s his. And if it means bending to my will, he’ll do it."I crossed my arms, watching him carefully. "And what if he refuses? Julie’s POVI struggled to breathe, my body aching from the relentless fight, but I refused to give up. Joanna and I clashed again, our hands grabbing, pushing, and striking at each other like wild animals. She lunged at me, her nails clawing at my face, but I ducked just in time. My fist connected with her stomach, making her stumble back with a sharp gasp."You witch!" she spat, her eyes filled with pure hatred.I didn’t waste a second. I spun around and grabbed the baby from the bed, holding the child close to my chest. My heart was racing.I needed to get out. Now.Joanna must have realized what I was trying to do because she let out a furious scream and charged at me again. I turned my back, shielding the baby, and felt her nails scrape against my arm, trying to pull me back."You're not leaving with that baby!" she shrieked.I kicked backward blindly, my foot slamming into her leg. She yelped, losing her balance for a moment. It was all the time I needed.I rushed toward the doo
Joanna’s POVJulie clutched the baby tightly, her eyes filled with fear and determination. “I will never let you go with this baby,” she hissed.I let out a slow chuckle, stepping closer. “Oh, Julie, don’t be so dramatic.”Tears welled in her eyes, but her grip on the baby only tightened. “You’ve already taken everything from me! You stole my inheritance, destroyed our family, and left me with nothing! You kept me away from Aurora, my own daughter, for years! And now you want to take her child too?” She shook her head furiously. “I will never let you have my grandchild!”I sighed, tilting my head. “You always did have a way of making yourself the victim, didn’t you?”Julie’s face twisted with anger. “You are the reason for everything! You lied, manipulated, and ruined my life. You wanted me gone, and you got what you wanted. But I won’t let you win this time. Not with Aurora’s baby.”I smirked, taking another step forward. “And how exactly do you plan to stop me, dear sister? You’re w
Dominic’s POVMy hands tightened around the steering wheel as I drove through the dark streets, the city lights flickering past like ghosts. My mind was racing, my chest tight with fear.Aurora’s signal had led me here, to Patrick’s old office building, not to the address he had given me.I knew Patrick. He was a snake. A master of deception. He wanted me to go to the wrong place while he did whatever sick thing he had planned. The tracking device on Aurora’s phone had been steady for the past few minutes, but then…“Sir, the tracking has stopped.”My heart slammed against my ribs.“What?” I barked, gripping the wheel tighter.“The signal just cut off. It’s gone.”Damn it.I clenched my jaw, forcing myself to stay calm. This wasn’t a coincidence. Patrick was covering his tracks. He must have found out Aurora had a tracker.I inhaled sharply, pushing down the wave of panic rising inside me.I couldn't afford to lose focus now."We’re still going to that building." My voice was firm, le
