The chase finally commenced. Farrah wasn't surprised when everything went into this direction. The moment she discovered Dior's transformation, she knew this kind of scenario will happen. She wasn't afraid. She was calm, extremely calm that it was so surprising. If it was others who's in these kind of situation, they'll probably break down in moment now. They been running for several days, and it's getting tough as day passes by. There's also helicopters flying everywhere in the sky, military cars in every highways, a voice coming from a megaphone repeatedly calling for them to surrender, and the cries of the restless undead.Farrah gasped, drinking water as she glanced at the small hole on the wall, observing the flying aircrafts patroling the area.“How can we escape without being seen by these aircrafts?” She eventually asked, still panting.Dior blinked, but didn't answer immediately. Truth to be told, he was also tired after running

It was getting harder and harder to move unnoticed, there's people tracking them down, and even though they try so hard to escape in fast speed, it seems that fate is really against them now.Hiding behind the tall grasses, Farrah frowned as she gazed upon the unresting helicopters surveying the areas. “How could there be so many helicopters?” She didn't dare assume that their country has this many aircrafts, she couldn't help but to doubt. It's making her feeling irked because it's limiting their possible escape routes.“The higher ups probably asked neighboring countries for help, I'm now the greatest threat to everyone after all.” Dior smiled self-deprecatingly, but there's no fear in his face. Looking at the exhausted Farrah, he sighed in distress. “Fae, come here, eat first. You haven't eaten since yesterday... If this continues, you'll gonna die not because of these people but because of starvation.&

Dior used zombies to as deterrence to their chasers, and though he didn't order them to attack humans, it is no longer in his control if the zombies attacks them. If they're really pushed into a situation where he needs to mobilize zombies, then he will not hesitate. They have escaped several cities now, with no intended direction. They both knew that if they continously go to one direction, it is likely that they would get ambushed or cornered. It took one and half day before they arrived at the most populated city of the country—N City.N City is known for its countless trip destinations, commercial districts, residential, logistics area, and many more. People used to call this place jack of all trades, because this is a city that seems to be so complete. Everything can be seen here, and people used to love this place so much. But that was before. When the outbreak happened, this place became one of t

The sky was dark and brimming with gloomy atmopshere, coupled with the chilly wind that can wake goosebumps upon skins. Even though it doesn't rain, the sun refused to go out, and the temperature dropped ever since yesterday.Any time by now, the rain will fall and it will certainly be a heavy downpour. The Governess stared at the sky by the window, and kneaded her forehead. She's so tired already, so is her men, but even a single sign of the monarch can't be found. If she didn't saw the recording handed by Major General Castro and felt the fluctuation of a sinister and domineering energy from T City, she would say that the monarch didn't really exist. The only proof that he exist is the peculiar behaviors of the undead hordes that either blocks road, or attacks them directly. It was a great comfort that they weren't blindly chasing. It seems that the monarch's not far away and just hiding tightly that no one can s

Gripping his hands tightly, Farrah and Dior stared at each others eyes. Both of them doesn't know whether they made the right decision or not, but since it's here, they can no longer step back and regret what they had chosen.“Are you ready?” Farrah asked, voice trembling slightly. She felt her throat constrict, and her chest tightening. Dior noticed it and kissed his forehead.“I'm ready. Let's go?” He calmly replied. Smiling, Farrah nodded at him. Both of them walked towards the exit of the building steps by steps, fingers entangled with each other. Each breath represent their emotions, even some kind of anticipation. Anticipation that they would no longer run, and this would be the start of dawn not only for them, but for the whole human population. The roaring wind caused by the propellers swept through the land, throwing dust everywhere coupled with the pungent smell of decomposing bodi

Dior was immediately imprisoned inside B City's Laboratory, but with Ferdinand in tow, Farrah's fear lessened greatly. She trust her father that he will protect him from harm, and wished that the antidote would be developed sooner or later. She went back to their house to take care of DaeDae, so Eden can go back to her work again. Though Farrah was also included in the research team, her profession was quite different so her task were minimal. She's either delivering food, washing the dishes, and organizing documents. It's enough for Farrah, as long as she can see Dior.Dior was imprisoned inside a huge glass tube, floating in a nutritional liquid. He was unconscious, but his brain activity was wide awake, seen on the apparatus outside just beside the glass cylindrical cabin. At first, Farrah was against Dior being unconscious, but her Father calmly explained to her that it's better for him to be asleep to le

  • Dawn   XXXIX. L City Base's Fall

The rainy season has finally started, roads are always flooded inconveniencing a lot of people inside the base. The rain didn't stop for a week, and even when it stopped, the sun still refused to make appearance. The weather undoubtedly affected everyone's mood, only those overly optimistic ones can smile from ear to ear.Just like Eden who's obviously lovestruck that she can't stop smiling from morning to evening. Farrah even began to believe that Eden's lips were sculpted that way because she can't seem to close her mouth at all. Her pearly white teeth were proudly shown to anyone.“You don't feel your muscles cramping smiling all day?” Farrah chuckled, leaning on her chair, steaming coffee placed on her wooden table.Eden shyingly blinked, a red tint spreading over her plump cheeks. “No. I'm not smiling since morning alright. I'm just being normal here. You guys are so weird.”

“How did it happen?! I need a comprehensive report!” The Governess yelled at the top of her lungs, looking at her people with commanding eyes. She didn't understand what happened. She thought everything's going at the right direction now that the leader of the undeads has been captured. The progress of the vaccine was also going well this past few days. Though it only jumped three percent after the monarch has been captured, it was still an enourmous progress. It means they're heading at the right direction. She thought nothing could go wrong now, since all's under control. With no one to lead them, lower-level zombies wouldn't dare to attack any bases with their non-existent logical reasoning. Lower-level zombies are easy to get rid of, but how these group of brainless monster managed to wipe out a base consisting thousands of people in a single night. The news of the L City Base' fall was only discovered when a certain mercenar

“The world is already at its end, why struggle?” the female monster asked, even though she doesn’t seem to be desiring an answer. She just gazed at Twilight with amusement and curiosity, as if she was interested in how Twilight could still live in this state. She was also very surprised by the fact that Twilight didn’t end up infected even when she had used her virus on Twilight’s wounds. Yet she didn’t fall down as she expected her to.“Who told you that?” Twilight sneered as if she had heard the most ridiculous joke in the world. “This is not the end yet, we’re just starting a new beginning,” Twilight stood up, her whole body bathed in blood. Her comrades had long fallen, and their safety is uncertain so it was either flight or fight for her. Unfortunately, she wasn’t fond of escaping. A red dragon never escapes. It shall stay in the battle, victorious or defeated.“You really think you can defeat me? Haha! The previous monarch might have stood a chance, but you? I can crush you to a

Farrah pursed her lips, staring blankly at her zombified husband. It hasn't sunk in, but she's getting there. It's definitely better than him being a mindless monster. Though it seems that he really doesn't remember her anymore, at least he wasn't attacking her for now. Dior wasn't doing anything in particular. He was just there, sitting in one corner, dazed and looking like he's lost in his own world. Sometimes he would suddenly growl at Farrah, then would quieten as if nothing happened, seemingly wanting to communicate with her but unable to. The big reversal of things left Farrah overwhelmed too, so she also didn't speak but just continued to watch her husband in silence. She's unsure of what entails this discovery of hers, but she's d*mn well aware she wouldn't give him up in this life. If he could retain a bit of human instincts, it just means there's a huge possibility that he could become a human again—Farrah just needed to find how and why. She just needed that information

Because there's no clothes around, Dior had to stand naked inside the room. Farrah had to stop herself from laughing and quickly checked if she had wounds in her hand before washing his clothes. She was naturally careful not to get infected, but it didn't hinder her trying to get close to her husband. Using her ability, he managed to wrung out the dampness from the clothes and made it dry in just few minutes. After that, she dressed him again and comb his now long hair with her fingers. “You looked like DaeDae, but as an adult version.” She eventually spoke, amused. Their son is a kid version of Dior, from his temperament to his mannerims. They're indeed father and son. “...Dior, I know there's still a little bit of human consciousness in you.” Caressing Dior's cheek, she leaned her forehead on his and smiled. The coldness of his skin made Farrah feel pain for her husband.“Will you please give me just a hint on how did you do it? How did you understand me?” Silence. Farrah knew i

  • Dawn   XLVI. Two Roads

When Dior met Farrah, he thought she'll just be another people that will gradually leave him as time passes by. He thought during those times that he and Farrah was together fighting with their lives hanging on thin threads, maybe someday, when Farrah doesn't need him anymore, she'll leave him just like those people who abandoned him without looking back. He repeatedly told himself not to get to attached, but like a moth to the fire, he still fell for Farrah, and even if he didn't know what future was waiting for the both of them, he chose to take the risk. Fortunately, Farrah was different. She never left. She reciprocated his feelings, and stayed by his side. Nothing can compare to that feeling he had the moment Farrah said she's willing to be with him. Being together with Farrah gave him life, and gave him power to continue, as they face the unknown dangers of the apocalypse. When David came, Dior promised to himself to protect his family, and never let harm come their way. He s

Yet, no one wanted to give up. No one wanted to die without a fight. Now that the vaccine has been completed and at its production, everyone was more energized fighting against the undead. The only thing they fear now is the arrival of the monarch. Despite the strengths of several sectors combined, the possibility of defeating the current monarch is not even close to 50%. The monarch reigning the undead was as strong as Dior Lee, the first monarch, or perhaps even stronger than him.The walls were strengthened, several of the teams have returned to the base after a narrow victory, and some of the teams will forever never return to the base.A few days later, Farrah and the team went back to base. They managed to push back the undead and purge 90% of t

  • Dawn   XLIV. Despair

They wanted to fight poison with poison. But how can they defeat the zombie monarch if the poison they needed isn’t waking up? Everyone was tense, and while waiting for Dior to wake up, they had begun their full offense against the surge of undead led by the new monarch. In the north, Major General has dropped TNTs to cities under the undead’s forces. Though it eliminated a lot of zombies, it really wasn’t enough to defend all their remaining cities against the onslaught of zombies. In the west, several elite ability-holders were in a rapid and intense fight against some high-level zombies. Groups like Red Dragon were there to kill all the zombies, disregarding their life and death. Groups like Agila, under the threat of death, worked with the government. A lot of civilians with mundane abilities volunteered to protect their bases and their people, even if it meant dying along the way. In the east, where the zombie monarch is attacking, they concentrate there all the soldiers. There w

The night is strangely silent, as if there’s no signs of life at the moment. Not even the sound of wind, the pleasant sound of leaves flapping with each other, or the sound of occasional crickets and cicadas. The gatekeepers didn’t dare to neglect their jobs, vigilantly scanning the surrounding area in every corner of the H City Base. Despite the tiredness and exhaustion, they endured and never stopped being on guard knowing that it was their family and loved ones staying inside the base, and only by doing their jobs they can protect these people relying on them. The night patrols are still surveying the nearby areas, and nothing dangerous has been spotted aside from some weak undeads roaming around. They quickly took care of it and finally sighed in relief. They also knew what had happened to their neighboring base who was attacked by an unknown group of undeads, and feared that it was them who’s getting atta

Something huge is happening at J City. The fluctuations of energy is the proof of this. While the rest of the people paid it no mind, the higher-ups are clearly shaken by this phenomenon. In order to prevent “unnecessary” panic, the government didn't announce to public what they thought about this matter.Only they knew what this phenomenon pose such great threat towards humanity. But before everyone could investigate what it is, the fluctuations in the air disappeared like it never appeared in the first place. Like a dream, but everyone knew it wasn't. It was real, and the threat it has over them is real too.“What exactly happened?” The Governess gripped her pen tightly, with tight brows and pursed lips. Her eyes looked exhausted, but thriving. Her subordinate didn't dare to dally and immediately reported the phenomenon from start to finish.“The fluctuatio

You looked like you slept very well.”DaeDae giggled, slapping his mother's face with his small yet chubby hands. “Sleep! Well!”Farrah felt that her skull was about to split, and it's too painful for her to bare. She didn't know what happened. Just yesterday, she suddenly felt so weak and light-headed. She thought it's just cold because of the cold weather, but it seems that she thought wrong. The pain was getting worse and worse as time passed by, and now, she couldn't even sit up from her bed.She smiled at DaeDae and tried to stand up, only to lose balance and
