Her friends had left and she was now sitting at the bar by herself. It had been a long day at work and all she wanted to do now was have a few drinks before she went home. The job was stressful and the hours were crazy, but it was the only thing that kept her going. After her divorce was made final, she had decided to work more than she used to. That ended up becoming a nightmare that she wasn't able to get rid of. Since her divorce she had been spearheading an operation to bring down the Syndicates drug trafficking ring, that in itself was just a cover for what she was really doing. Since then, there had been numerous attempts on her life and she was lucky to still be alive. The Syndicate was trying their damn best to kill her, but somehow, they were unsuccessful.
Michelle had become paranoid, after surviving the last attempt she decided to work more from home. It gave her a chance to be around her daughter more and spend more time with her then she used to before the divorce. The only bad thing was that she had ended up learning of a secret project that the Federation had under wraps. Because of her involvement with the operation against the Syndicate she had found out about it. Apparently, the Federation was investigating the whereabouts of an Alicia Alexander who had mysteriously vanished seven months ago. Michelle had done some investigating of her own and found that Alicia's last known location was Zebulon. The Federation was looking for because of an incident with a military project called Alpha. Not long after that she had been contacted by Supreme Commander Alexander who claimed to be Alicia's mother in law. She had assigned her a task of finding out anything that she could about project Alpha and what Alicia had to do with it. Apparently, the project was so highly classified even the leader of the Federation didn’t fully know what it was about.
After that call from the supreme commander Michelle realized that this Alicia was a very big deal. She had begun a search and found that Alicia wasn't just an average person, she was a student of famed scientist Jacob Revis. Revis had been creating a super soldier program and had apparently been showing a lot of interest in Alicia. So much interest that he had requested that she graduate early for reasons not put in her file. The more she learned about Alicia the more she wanted to find her. Zebulon was the largest planet in Federation space and if you weren't careful, it could be a deadly place. It was home to many crime organizations and many rogue military corporations. Michelle had lived there for years during her marriage, but her superiors felt she could be better used on Cryot.
This investigation had been going on for months now and the deeper she got the worse the Syndicate had gotten. It was as if the Syndicate didn't want her to know something. Everyone on Cryot knew about the drug trafficking and everyone knew of the Syndicates involvement in it. It couldn't be that they wanted her dead because of the drug ring, it had to be because of her investigation on Alicia. The problem with that was why did Alicia matter to them? Her answer came when she was given a tip that the Syndicate had recruited some new assets, rumor had it that a young woman was among them. It could've been possible that Alicia had been approached by someone within the Syndicate and had been offered a job. Michelle had been debating the possibility for weeks. Why would a decorated student who was married with a daughter and about to join the military get involved with a crime organization? It was the question that had been troubling her mind all day, its why she had come to the bar in the first place.
She was very well aware that another attempt on her life was imminent and she was pretty sure it would happen soon. The Federation had provided her with additional security at her apartment building to ease her mind. Even though her daughter was also a soldier and lived with her she was still skeptical. She had found out too much in a short period of time and the Syndicate were going to do their best to eliminate her. She glanced up at the bartender and signaled her for another drink. The girl came over and brought her another of what she had been drinking all afternoon.
"How's it going today Gina?"
Gina smiled as she handed her a glass of liquor. "My day was pretty boring until I got in here."
Michelle caught a look in Gina's eyes that told her to ask more questions.
"What happened?"
Gina looked around as if someone was watching her and Michelle knew something was seriously wrong.
"Earlier there was this woman I've never seen before. She sat over there in the corner by the window." She said pointing towards the other side of the room.
"What was she doing?"
Gina looked as if she didn't want to say anything, but the look in her eyes had terrified written all over them. "She was watching you; she did a good job to not look obvious. I think she overheard your conversation about your divorce, after that she left."
Michelle thought for a moment. Usually no one had ever been caught watching her in the bar. If this woman was an assassin than that meant the Syndicate had put another hit on her. She would have to find out who she was if she going to survive another attempt on her life.
"What did she look like?"
Gina began to describe the woman in detail. "She was about your height, light brown skin, long burgundy hair and she was wearing a leather outfit. Before she left, she was on her headset talking to someone she called Celenia."
"What were they saying?"
"I'm not sure what Celenia was saying to her, but she must've been talking about you. She said that she needed all the details on someone called Alicia. Does that name mean anything to you?"
Michelle started to get up and head for the door. "If she comes back call me and let me know."
Gina nodded and went back to serving drinks to other customers.
Michelle walked out the restaurant and hailed a taxi shuttle. She got in and gave the pilot her destination. "Imperial headquarters downtown."
Whoever this woman was she was working for the Syndicate. No one ever came in the bar and watched her. Thankfully Gina had noticed and told her about it, she had to get to a computer and start tracking her down. If this woman was the assassin that she was expecting then she would have to be extra careful. She pulled out her earpiece and made a call to her daughter.
"Livia, they've put out another hit on me and someone might make their move tonight."
She heard her daughter talking to someone on the other side before she spoke. "How can you be sure of this?"
"Trust me, they've been watching me since I got off work. Whoever she is we are going to find her. I need you to connect to the spaceport's security systems and the apartment complexes."
"What am I looking for mom?"
Michelle gave her all the details as the cab docked at the base. She got out and ran as fast as she could until she got to the intelligence department. She walked past several stations until she found Livia. She was looking at a dozen different feeds from the spaceport. One of the feeds showed a woman that matched the description of who they were looking for.
"She doesn't look like an assassin mom. If you ask me, I would say she's a spy." Livia said looking at her mother.
Michelle shook her head. "She's more than a spy, she knows about my investigation on Alicia Alexander."
Livia turned and looked at her surprised. "Only a handful of people know about that and it's not even on official record. She's good whoever she is."
Michelle nodded as another woman came into view. The woman started talking to the red head about something. As the other woman turned her back Michelle's neck hairs stood up.
"Oh my God, that's impossible!" She said loudly.
Livia looked at her mother and back at the screen as she tried to figure out what was going on through her mother's mind. "What is it? Do you know her?"
"Pull up Alicia Alexander's file and bring up her last recent photo."
Livia keyed in the information and a picture of a raven-haired woman came up.
"I don't believe it! That's Alicia Alexander!" Michelle exclaimed.
Livia shook her head. "Mom have you been watching the news today?"
She shook her head. Her work had caused her to not even turn on anything except her computers at home and she was never one to watch the news.
"Alicia Alexander's body was found this afternoon in the under city on Zebulon. Her family members confirmed that it was her. Whoever this woman is she's not Alicia."
Michelle knew that her daughter wasn't lying. Livia was an intelligence officer and all her sources were credible. But something told her that this time her sources were wrong. If Alicia was dead then who was the woman in the video?
"Are you sure it was Alicia Alexander?"
Livia gave her a look she knew too well. Her daughter knew what she was talking about, but something's just didn't add up for her. If Alicia was dead then her file would say and it didn't. Her file still read M.I.A and Michelle knew that she would've received a call from the Supreme Commander by now.
"Show me the video from the news earlier when they said her body had been found."
Livia pulled up the new video and they watched it together.
"It's been a very disturbing morning for many citizens here in Zebulon. Approximately at 0600 this morning the body of Intelligence Agent Alicia Alexander was found in the under city. No official word on the cause of death, but early reports are that she was murdered. Zebulon's under city is well known for its violent gangs and most notably the Syndicate."
"We've had no chance to speak with any of Alicia's family members today, but they are expected to be at the funeral which is being held tomorrow morning at Central Federation Command in uptown Della City here on Zebulon."
"She's not dead, someone would have said something. I smell a cover up here and I refuse to get caught in the middle of it." Michelle said.
Livia glanced around before she spoke. "Mom, you're not thinking what I think you are?"
"That Alicia Alexander wasn't killed, that they are doing this because something else unexplainable happened to her? Yes I am."
Livia looked back at the video of the red head and the Alicia look alike. "You think she joined the Syndicate and that's why they've put a hit out on you to make sure no one finds out?"
"Yes and no. I believe that Alicia joined the Syndicate, for what reasons I don't know and I believe that the Syndicate is trying to play upon everyone's intelligence by faking her death. Think about it Liv, Alicia disappeared seven months ago, six months ago the Syndicate had recruited new assets and reports are a female was among them. Today at the spaceport a woman identical to Alicia is on our monitor talking to a woman who was watching me at the bar."
Livia nodded her head as she saw were her mother was going with this. "If your right than Alicia is a traitor and is still alive. But that also would mean that someone in the Federation knows something we don't."
Michelle looked at the Alicia look alike once more noticing the brown and blonde hair. The woman she was looking at suddenly seemed strikingly different from the photo they had of Alicia. Michelle tried to come up with a answer for all this but couldn't.
"How much do you know about the Syndicates recruitment methods?" She asked Livia.
Livia looked at her mother skeptically and exhaled as if she couldn't fathom what her mother was thinking.
"Most of the time they find ex-soldiers and pilots from the Federation who have lost faith in the government. Others are usually just walk ins from local gangs. I've heard in some cases recruits are abducted and never seen or heard from again."
The gears in Michelle's head began to turn as she processed what Livia told her. "Do they drug those who are abducted?"
Livia quickly nodded. "Yes, their given a mild dosage of a serum that's supposed to erase the awareness of past life events. They're then given a new name, back-story and their appearance is altered so no one will recognize them. You think that's what happened to Alicia?"
"It would explain everything if that's what did happen." Michelle replied as she turned to leave.
Livia got up and followed her mother. "Where are you going?"
"I have to find a way to stop her. I have to tell her who she is, there's a lot more about her that I know than anyone else knows."
Livia looked at her mother strangely as she tried to figure out what she meant. "You mean Project Alpha?"
Michelle looked around before she slowly nodded. "I want you to assemble a unit of special ops troops and have them on standby. If this doesn't end well then I want her to be captured and brought in."
Livia threw her hands up in annoyance. "Mom, how am I supposed to get a team together for a top-secret mission like this. I can't just say who we're about to try and apprehend, it will throw up all kinds of red flags."
Michelle turned around pulled her daughter close to her and responded in a low tone. "Contact Supreme Commander Alexander and report everything that we've found out. Tell her that Alicia is alive and is currently working for the Syndicate. Get the strike team assembled and tell them that they are to bring in Alicia alive. There's too much riding on this for us to fail now."
Livia watched her mother leave and turned around back to her desk to do as she was instructed.
Carmen glanced around the corner and saw three Federation spec ops troopers further down the corridor guarding Michelle Gaven's apartment door. Apart from the troopers the corridor was empty and from the looks of it that wasn't going to change. She glanced down at her wrist watch and saw that she only had a few minutes before Amelia would be in complete control of the buildings security systems. Carmen had given the AI specific instructions to hack into the system and plant a virus. If Amelia was as good as she claimed the officers in the security room wouldn’t even notice the intrusion. She was beginning to appreciate having an AI with her during her missions. Amelia did come in handy when she was needed. Hopefully all the security cameras would be shut down once Amelia was finished."Are you almost done?" She asked Amelia, her voice just above a whisper.Carmen didn't get a response, so she patiently waited as she watched four more t
Carmen had been roaming around Michelle Gaven's apartment for several minutes now. She amassed anything that could be of any use to her yet, but she felt if she went in the right room, she would find what she was looking for. Mina had told her earlier that she had found out that Michelle had been conducting an investigation in Alicia Alexander's disappearance. A small part of Carmen speculated that Alicia was a real person. It was possible that the voice in her mind could be Alicia telepathically trying to communicate with her. Although after the dream she had and what she had seen in the mirror earlier during the day she knew it wasn't that. The only explanation she could come to was that she must've have been Alicia Alexander. Carmen was having a tough time believing that, she couldn't even remember anything that happened six months ago never mind her whole life. She shook her head and tried to rid her mind of all these thoughts as she walked into another room.
Carmen stood in the living room as she watched Michelle slowly walk to where she was. It was a surreal moment. So many thoughts and questions had flooded her mind. She knew that in the end there was no end result where Michelle walked out of all this alive. It wasn't a good thought, but as far as Carmen was concerned it had to be done. before her last moments she was going to get what, she wanted, even if she had to force her to tell. As Michelle made it to the living room Carmen saw something in her eyes. It was that look people have when they are in disbelief when the truth is right in front of them. Carmen found this woman very intriguing upon first glance, she knew that killing her was going to be difficult."Brenna, lights on."Carmen watched as the lights came on and suddenly the look on Michelle's face went from unbelief to shock."So, it really is you, you have no idea what I've had to do to track you down."
Everything inside the interrogation room shined like it was bought the day before. Metal tables, chairs, even the walls were stainless steel and Carmen sat there in restraints. Her mind whirled around like a tornado hell bent on destruction. She was going to get out of here one way or the other. She would have to use all the skills she acquired during her training. Inside her mouth she felt for the wire that she placed on the side of her gums. Carmen quickly spat it out and it fell in her lap. She strained herself as she tried to grip it with her restrained hands. Her wrists were bound in front of her and she knew that the cameras would probably show what she did. It was a quick motion so she might have a chance if she kept the interrogators attention focused on her face. She had no idea of who would be coming in to question her, she hoped that it was a woman because it would be difficult to overpower a man or several men in such a small space.
Her mind was focused on one thing, getting out of this base alive. It was going to be a monumental task considering that she wasn't able to contact anyone on the outside at this point. She was too busy fighting soldiers to worry about if help was coming. The alarms in the base were blaring and she knew that it was only a matter of time before they found a way to put her down. The good thing about Carmen was that she wasn't a soldier which meant she didn't always fight in the open. Her best friend was the shadows, its where she was the deadliest. Throughout her training her instructors praised her for always striking from the darkness. Right now, her primary goal was to find the armory and get her affects back. If she was going to survive this then she would need Amelia's help. No doubt her AI was missing her and she needed the extra help. She ran past several guards who didn't know she was the loose captive and took advantage of the situation. She
She was the epitome of sinister. Her dark motivations are what got her the position of Commander. Where ever she went people feared her while they were in her presence. She demanded respect from everyone she knew and she always got what she wanted. What killed her the most was that she was about to demand something from a woman who was her exact opposite. Demonya knew all about Carmen Veila, she knew her past, she knew about Project Alpha and she knew about her memory loss condition. She had been sticking her nose into Commander Foreshon's files since she had complete access to them. She was well aware of who Carmen really was and she was going to make sure that she never found out.Demonya had been planning this for months now and her plan had taken an unexpected turn when she heard that Carmen had been captured. The news had traveled quick through the ranks and when it reached her she had to adjust her plans. In order for her idea of the perfect assassin to be
Mina sat the controls for the Avenger as she watched the recording of Demonya and Carmen's private conversation. Not many people in the Syndicate knew how to hack a triple firewalled sever and access any camera anywhere on the Oasis. Mina just happened to have years of experience doing it. She knew just how to hack into any sever, computer and security system with ease. She had been looking into a lot of what Carmen had asked of her earlier. As it turned out, Carmen was the wife of a Major in the Federation military. His name wasn't in the files that she had found due to the fact that she couldn't view everything. The files that she had pulled up were encrypted and so far, the decryption process only showed his rank and last name. It proved that Carmen indeed was Alicia Alexander and had currently been married for three years. That meant that Carmen was twenty-one years old, which meant that her daughter was seven years old.The name of her daughter was also unk
Carmen stood in a large crowd of people who were waiting to get inside the command center to attend her funeral. She had been waiting in line for over an hour and was getting highly impatient. She had gone to extreme measures to conceal her true identity. She wore leather pants, a white blouse and a leather jacket with a hood attached. She wasn't sure who she was hiding from being she still had no idea what her husband and daughter looked like. Carmen figured that her daughter probably looked like her so it wouldn't be too hard to spot her. Her husband on the other hand, it would probably be more difficult to spot him."Remember the man from your dream Alicia."Carmen heard the voice and closed her eyes and pictured the man in her dream at her wedding. Brown skinned, muscular, deep reserved voice and that smile. She couldn't get his smile out of her mind. If the man from her dream was indeed her husband than she could see why she had fallen
One Week Later......Cassandra stood anxiously in the center of Urlecit's private meeting chambers. She had been called here by the God himself for reasons not disclosed to her. In her mind she had been trying to figure out what his reasons for calling her here could've been. Her mother told her that the Gods were very wary of any offspring of the Goddesses, especially if they couldn't be controlled by them in some way.Though she didn't feel like this was a meeting about herself, it was most certainly about Alicia. She knew that her cousin was a sought-after prize that Urlecit wanted. What caused Cassandra a great amount of confusion was why? Why did the Gods fear Alicia so much that they chose to test her prowess and force an ultimatum upon her that was beyond unfair? She herself had abilities like many Celestials within Paradea, yet only Alicia was being tested to prove herself worthy.Cassandra worri
Alicia glanced around her and saw that everything around her had turned completely black, as if someone had removed the environment and replaced it with a blank canvas. Fear gripped her insides as she was unsure of what she was supposed to do. Moments later she started to her loud explosions all around her but couldn't see where they were coming from. As the explosions grew closer and louder, she noticed that above her was a bridge. Rubble and debris had begun to appear everywhere as she walked further into what she assumed was the future. As if on cue several figures appeared crouched next to a pile of rubble underneath the bridge. She walked over to them and quickly recognized them from her vision. Her eyes scanned each of them and noticed that two of them were missing, Cassandra and the woman she had been fighting alongside were absent. This sent Alicia's mind into a frenzy of questions that all led to one conclusion. Cassandra'
Alicia briefly looked back at the red veil and found that it was no longer there. The surprise she began to feel quickly turned to anxiousness as she walked through the thick fog that swirled around her. Her eyes darted in all directions as she attempted to get an idea of her surroundings, but nothing but fog was visible. As she walked forward a bright light began to shine through the fog, she decided to go to it. The closer she got to it voices started echoing around her. Her heart jumped into her chest she heard a voice behind her call her name. Alicia turned around to see a shadowy projection of herself. She looked the same, but this version of her looked somewhat tormented."What are you?" she asked. The projection looked up at her with a look of grief. "You shouldn't be here. Why have you come?"Alicia shook her head. "I need to find out what happens in the future. This was the only way.""You d
Cassandra stood still next to Alicia who had her head bowed and eyes closed. She wasn't sure what had gotten into her cousin, Alicia didn't normally frequent taking journeys into the Third Realm and go to the heart of darkness. Even though Cassandra had been tasked with seeking out this dark presence she had felt before leaving Galaxia, she didn't think that Alicia would be so quick to follow after her. Although her cousin hadn't been the same since she had spoken about the dream or as she called it 'vision'. Cassandra knew her cousin well enough to know that she was afraid. What caused her mind to ache was that she couldn't figure out what Alicia was so shaken and terrified over. She had the powers of a Goddess yet she allowed images within a dream affect her judgement. Her pondering came to a halt as Alicia suddenly stepped forward and faced the Guardian."Are you prepared to enter beyond the Veil of Time and Shadows?" the Guardian asked in his gho
Alicia awoke suddenly, drenched in sweat. Her mind stumbled over multiple thoughts as she tried to make sense of the dream she had. Could what she has seen truly been the future? Her mother said once that sometimes the power of the Five had a mind and will of its own, she had told her how that same power would find beings that were capable of executing the will of the Realm's. A part of her wanted nothing more but to go back to sleep and forget about the dream altogether. But she knew deep down, the dream was real, the people who fought alongside her were all real. Those creatures were real as well, it was only a matter of time until events within the realm would start to echo the event she just witnessed.Looking across her room to the arch way which led to the balcony, she noticed that it was daylight and Cassandra told her to meet her at the palace gate's when she awoke. She got up and grabbed her clothes and began to get dressed. She slipped on her an all-bl
3 Months Later.......Explosion after explosion went off around her as she opened her eyes. Before her was the scorched plains Galaxia. Fires plagued around her as she looked away from the plains and investigated the landscape further. On either side of her were young women in dark robes and armor. Each of them stood there watching something off in the distance, she noticed Cassandra among them. It was during this moment that she realized she was having some sort of vision. As she turned to see what was in the distance. Her eyes went wide as she saw thousands of alien creatures marching towards their position. First thing she thought of was how far in the future would all this take place. Second was who did that army belong to? Alicia knew that no matter what, the Collective had armies in case a war broke out. What threw off was the appearance of these soldiers. They were unlike any Cel
Alicia and Cassandra walked towards the shuttle that would take them to Seledon. Its golden paint job mixed with the beaming sun upon blinded Alicia for a moment. As she looked away from the shuttle, she saw her mother following close behind her. She wondered what words of wisdom she would bestow on her before her departure. Also, the thought of what her mother wouldn't say that she really did want to say, but always chose not to. Alicia knew her mother constantly wanted to tell her something, something that she knew always weighed upon her. Though she never did say what it was, she would only give of the slightest indication that there was something she wanted to say.She stopped walking and let Cassandra go aboard the shuttle as she felt her mother's presence directly behind her. She quickly turned around to face her catching a hint of sadness in her eyes. The decision to have her go to Seledon must've been a difficult one. Alicia didn't realize it till now ju
The Goddesses had all taken their seats. They patiently waited for the Collective to enter the chamber. They would take their seats across the chamber as they always did. Viennashal sat impatiently, this was a day she had been trying to avoid, though in heart of hearts she'd known it would come. Her daughter was a secret she had kept from everyone for fourteen years. A secret that could and probably be the catalyst in breaking the civil law between the God's and the Goddesses of Paradea. Such an idea that this could become a reality filled her with pride and guilt. Guilt that she might be grooming her daughter to be fed to the wolves, yet if her plan worked, she would be the slaughtering the wolves. The chamber door opened and the God's silently took their seats. She keenly watched her husband take his seat amongst his brothers. Viennashal didn't hate the God's in fact, she respected some of them. Not all of them were considered tyrants, though after today that
It was indeed something to behold, it stood as a testament of authority and seat of power for the Collective. The last time she had stood within its halls she was what the Goddesses of old called a new creature. A Celestial who still possessed some form of innocence and small power among beings whose prowess she wouldn't dare challenge. There had been those who did indeed try, they had either been banished or worse. She had made sure that she would never join their numbers, and rightly so. She knew that her sisters would one need her leadership and divine wisdom to one day challenge the Collective and bring justice upon them. Maybe, just maybe that day had come.Virdenasha the leader of the Council of Goddesses and Supreme Ruler of the Four Kingdoms sat in her seat within the Hall of the Ancients. Here she had aided in the governing of Paradea and led the Goddesses for many millennia. It was here only hours ago that she had learned of Viennashal Iminz and Lord A
