Plans to take Gabrielle out of Bangkok
Brian felt a gentle tap on his back. He turned slowly and was surprised. Uka, one of the twins in room 4 was standing behind him smiling seductively.
He looked around, searching for a free seat, however, all the seats were occupied. He stood up and gestured to her. Uka sat down and grinned.
One of his friends who was sitting close to him created a space for him. Uka took the wrap of weed he was smoking from him.
Brian rolled another weed. Placing the wrapped weed in the corner of his mouth, his long fingers then searched the pockets of his brown tweed jacket and finally emerged with a match.
"Uka is Meche out of town?" Brian asked. Uka nodded with a grin. Meche, her boyfriend, had warned her to stay away from the group. He once fought the gang for giving her weed to smoke.
"His mother invited him over. He is going to stay with her for a whole week," Uka said. Meche was the son of one of the University lecturers. People wondered why he kept following Uka of all people around. He was so obsessed with her and did not really care about her immoral lifestyle.
"She ditched you right?" Uka asked Brian.
"Who?"
"Your girlfriend," Uka responded.
"Does he have a girlfriend now?" One of his friends asked.
"Yes, the girl lives in my lodge," Uka said with a grin.
"Manga, you don't seem bothered. Anyways you know it would come to this when you left all the low-class babes around and went after a classic one," Uka smirked.
"Come to what?" Brian who had been looking away turned to her.
"Your girlfriend is with another guy as we speak. Their giggling sent me out of the room. They were so noisy."
"By another man, you mean Mike, the tall guy or someone from your lodge?"
"Mike, the basketball player," Uka responded.
"I just spoke with him a while ago."
"Did he tell you he was going to sleep with your girlfriend?" Uka asked with her eyes wide open. Brian could not explain how he felt. He bit his lower lips and cut Uka in when she wanted to say more. Her words were making him uncomfortable.
"Uka, please let them be," Brian said. His voice sounded quite unusual. Warlick turned and stared at him. His friends burst into laughter.
"My guy has fallen in love," Warlick smirked, patting Brian's shoulder.
Brian stood up, adjusted his trousers, and began to walk home. They fixed their gaze at him.
He could not explain how he felt over what Uka told him. Probably, the feeling of anxiety he felt was the result of the weed he just smoked. He thought the weed obstructed his brain, making it harder for him to think clearly.
Mike went home and got himself covered with his duvet. Jane searched for him everywhere in the school but he was nowhere to be found. She hastened down the narrow path that led to his lodge.
There were female shoes in front of his room. She frowned her face and flipped the curtain with annoyance.
The girls sat on his blue chair. She recognized one of them. She was one of the auxiliary nurses that worked with a maternity home that was close to the University's third gate.
Female students always visit there when they need pills and other drugs that help them to avoid unwanted pregnancy.
"Nurse Rose, what are you doing here?" Jane asked, trying to remove the duvet.
"Let him be; he is feeling cold. I have given him an injection, he would be fine. His temperature is okay now," Nurse Rose said. He needs more injections, but he said he has no money."
Jane looked at Mike who was vibrating under the duvet and stared up at the nurse.
"How many injections does he need?" Jane asked.
"He needs ten more, and the injections are quite expensive," Nurse Rose replied. Jane got annoyed when she added the last part.
"Nurse, please forget about the price of the injections, I'll pay. Will he be alright?"
"Why not, he would be fine once he completes the required dose."
"How much do you need to give him the best treatment and attention?" Jane asked.
"For the injections and my services, I would need ten thousand rand."
"Okay, I'll go to the bank now. Come back in the evening for the money," Jane said.
"Okay, I'll come with the second injection," Nurse Rose said before leaving the room. A young girl that accompanied her to the lodge walked behind her.
Jane turned and looked at Mike, she was heartbroken. She hadn't seen him so down. She quickly wore back her shoe and ran out of the lodge to withdraw the amount needed for his treatment.
Luck shone on Jane as she walked into the bank. The queue was not as long as she guessed. After about three hours, she came out of the bank with the money. She hurried down to Mike's lodge. She also bought food for him.
Jane kept the money on the small table when she returned from the bank. She removed the duvet and helped Mike up when. Mike leaned weakly on her shoulder. She brought the food out and began to feed him slowly.
They lay down on the bed as they wait for the nurse.
Brian alighted from a bus when she arrived at the University's second gate which was the final bus stop for all the vehicles coming from Queenstown.
He tried to hide when he saw Gabrielle and her friend crossing the main road. However, it was too late as she had seen him. Gabrielle stood still waiting for him. He looked so weak and tired.
Agatha kept looking around, wondering who she was waiting for because she could not believe she was actually waiting for that dirty guy coming towards them. Agatha threw her face away when moved closer to them.
"I waited yesterday and you didn't show up," Gabrielle said, staring at him pathetically. Brian looked into her eyes and looked away.
"You had company and I decided not to meddle. You needed some privacy," Brian said.
"He slept over because you didn't show up. You know I value your presence a lot. I'm comfortable having you around," Gabrielle said with a quiet tone. "Please, come and keep me company; are you coming?" She asked. Her invitation was quite a passionate challenge, hard to resist. Brian nodded his head and walked away. Gabrielle stood staring at him. Agatha stood with her hands Akimbo, staring at her friend.
"No wonder Mike calls him a dirty pig. Did you just invite him to your lodge?" Agatha asked.
"Listen, Aga, Brian is better than Mike. If he had been a student of this university, I would have liked to have him as my boyfriend," Gabrielle said and Agatha laughed. Her friend knew she was just joking.
Agatha bade her farewell when she had seen her off enough. She turned and began to walk back to the hostel.
Gabrielle walked home alone. The boys in her lodge were no longer a problem to her since they knew she was dating Brian.
The boys turned and fixed their gaze at her as she walked majestically to her room. She quickly bolted her door when she entered her room.
Gabrielle needed to shower but she couldn't, so she lay down and waited for Brian.
She was woken up by Brian's knock on her door. She happily threw herself at him when she opened the door. She was so excited to see him. It was as though her God had come again. Brian lifted her up playfully like a baby and slowly brought her down.
"Thank God you are here. I want to bathe. Have you bathed?" Gabrielle asked. "Obviously, you have," she answered her question without waiting for him. Brian shrugged and grinned.
Gabrielle came back to the room when she had finished bathing and joined him on the floor.
"Who told you Mike was here yesterday?" Gabrielle asked. Brian pointed at the connecting door that connected room four and room five.
"Oh, okay."
"Why do you prefer my company?" Brian asked after a long silence.
"I feel safe when you are around. You are a nice person but people did not know," Gabrielle smirked and touched his well-carved beard. Brian looked away shyly. Gabrielle brought his gaze back and laughed again.
"Why are you so timid?" She asked.
"I'm not timid," Brian grinned.
"Okay, tell me a story," Gabrielle lay beside him, bending her knees, waiting for him to talk. Brian kept quiet with his eyes closed. Gabrielle swiveled and mounted on his belly. He quickly opened his eyes.
"Okay, I'll tell you a story," he opened his eyes and grinned. Gabrielle came down and sat beside him.
"Gabby, are you aware that I'm a man and not a girl?"
"To me, you are a girl," she responded.
"What?" Brian said a bit loudly. "Did you just call me a girl?"
Gabrielle gave out a great bellow of laughter.
"You are like a brother to me, so I see no reason why you should be acting like a stranger all the time. Be free, talk to me, I'm like a sister to you."
"You know, I'm not much of a talker right?"
"I know but if you are free with me, I will know. You always act as though I'm your boss."
"Okay, let's share ideas. I am a secondary school dropout. I have no certificate at all, and I want to be great. Do you think I would ever achieve my dream of being a great man?" Brian asked.
"You are hardworking, and I think you will be a great man tomorrow. You can achieve your dream If you can go into the production of goods and services."
"Production of goods requires a lot of capital to start up. Since I don't have the required capital, what do you think I should do?"
"Take the first step which is learning how to produce the goods. You must establish a small company that would later grow into a big one someday.
My elder brother is also a Secondary school dropout. My dad took him to one of his friends that produces toilet paper to learn how to produce toilet paper.
When he was through with the six months of training, my father could not buy the machine that he needed. He began to visit highly populated elementary schools applying for contracts.
He used public machines to produce the toilet papers and paid per hour. He was able to save up money for his own headbox. He is saving up again to buy a Yankee cylinder. Once he succeeds, that would be goodbye to poverty for him. Brian, You can do it too or go for something similar." Gabrielle said. Brian kept quiet. He was in deep thought.
"Thank you Gabby, I think I know what to do now," Brian said.
"It's your turn," Gabrielle said. Brian turned and fixed his gaze at her.
"I have a friend. I met him two years ago when I was in Senior high. I was just sixteen and he was thirty-two…"
"What does he want from you, marriage or friendship?" Brian asked.
"He wants to marry me, but he has conditions," Gabrielle grinned.
Brian drew a pillow from her bed and supported his head. He wanted to hear her clearly.
"His name is Ernest. He owns about five oil wells in and out of the country." "I don't believe you, do you know what oil wells are?" Brian asked. "He inherited them from his late father. He is the CEO of Nexoil. Do you remember the one-year strike that took place during the David Martin administration? All schools were shut down for a year?" Gabrielle asked. Brian nodded. "I took up a job as a salesgirl in one of the shops around our house. He came around with his bodyguards and declared surplus. I served them diligently and he picked interest in me. I turned him down because I was just sixteen and marriage was the last thing I was thinking of. He stood up and walked into his car without paying for the drinks. I followed him immediately. He wound down the glass and flung a paper. I hesitated because he was there. When his driver drove him away, I picked the paper up. It was his residential address. I folded the paper and tossed it in the trash. My boss came and insisted
The nurse Jane and Mike were waiting for came later that day. Jane gave her the money. The nurse went back to the maternity home after giving Mike the second injection. "Thank you, Mike said. Jane smiled and nodded her head. "Honestly, Jane, I'm nothing without you. You are my world, my everything. Thank you for being there for me always," Mike said again. "I did it for us, Mike," Jane smirked. "If anything happens to you, I'm finished. My love for you is beyond explanation. I love you so much, Mike." "I love you too, honey," Mike said, clenching her left hand. "Please Jane, I need one more favor from you today, would you help me?" Mike asked. Jane nodded happily. "I have an assignment I wrote for one of my friends in hostel ten, would you help me deliver it to him. It will be submitted tomorrow morning, please," Mike pleaded. "Mike, I will deliver it before 6:am tomorrow. It's almost 8:30 and the second gate closes at 9." "Please, Jane, he paid for it already and would d
The next day, Mike woke up very early. He knew Jane would be there any moment so he dressed up and ran out. Bangkok lodge's gate was still locked when he got there, so he went to a nearby store and sat on one of the chairs. The owner of the shop fixed his gaze at him, probably wondering why he left his lodge so early. "Do you want to make a call?" The shopkeeper asked. Mike shook his head and looked away. The caretaker of the lodge came out of the gate holding a filter end of a cigarette by the corner of his lips. Obviously, his wife had refused to give a match to light the cigarette. He began to walk towards the shop. "Ojo, I need a box of matches," the caretaker said. The shopkeeper gave him a general lighter instead. "Hei, Mikeo, what are you doing here? I hope we are safe this morning?" the caretaker patted Mike on the shoulder. "I want to see you," Mike responded. Pa Uzo feigned him and focused on the cigarette he was trying to light. He ignited the lighter and held t
Jane, who had been searching everywhere for Mike, saw him coming towards Hall A, holding Gabrielle's hand. Fury began to choke her. She stared at them with burning reproachful eyes. Mike let go of Gabrielle's hand and walked towards her with smiles on his face. Jane turned and began to walk away angrily. Mike ran after her. He grabbed her hand, Jane tried to free her hand from his grip. "I searched everywhere for you. I went to the clinic, you were not there." "You went to the clinic? Did you see nurse Rose?" Mike asked. "She is on night shift," Jane said. "I met her before she handed over to those on the morning shift." "You went there?" Jane asked. "Yes, I woke up this morning and was feeling nauseous, I have to rush to the clinic to see her before she hands over. All the nurses I met must have gone before your arrival," Mike said. "How do you feel now?" Jane asked, lowering her gaze. "I'm fine, sweetheart, thanks to you," Mike grinned. "What are you doing with tha
The next day, Mike rushed down to Gabrielle's lodge to make sure Brian kept his promise. Jane was still sleeping when he sneaked out. He ascended the stairs hurriedly when he entered Anarchy Lodge. The students went to bed very late so they were still sleeping and everywhere was as silent as a graveyard. Gabrielle was awoken by the sound of her doorbell. She rolled on her bed, her friend who slept in her room was nowhere to be found. She sluggishly walked towards the door and opened it. Mike grinned and held her waist so tight as they walked inside the room. Mike quickly let go of her waist when he heard the sound of water splashing on her bathroom floor. He stared angrily at Gabrielle. "You...you...you...invited him right?" Mike stammered. There was a critical tone in his voice. "No, I did not," Gabrielle said weakly as she moved towards her bed. She was very tired. Mike was very annoyed but he did not want to show her how angry he was to avoid scaring her away. He clenche
Brian ran into Mike and Gabrielle again as they were coming out of the gate after the evening games. Gabrielle was dressed in a crop top, a quilted black bomber, and tight-fitting stretch denim shorts. She also had a snapback on her head. Her simple dressing made her look sporty and sexy. The short denim perfectly showed off her thighs and her famously long legs. Brian quickly walked into a nearby store the moment he sighted them holding hands. Mike, who was bouncing a ball with his left hand, gave out a loud laugh that rippled through the air. Gabrielle also grinned. "I'll be right back," she said, trying to free her hand from Mike's grip. Mike held her tight and would not let her go. "Smallie, no, you are not going there." "I want to know what is wrong with that guy. I think he is mad at me," Gabrielle said. "Why do you think so?" Mike asked. "He ran away when he saw me in the morning. He is mad at me and he is trying to avoid me." "Please, don't give him much of your
Brian woke up in the early hours. He glanced down at his wristwatch, it was a few minutes past five. He wanted to wake his friend up and then he remembered the last warning he gave him before going to bed. He bathed, put on his clothes, and took his box of weed outside. He wrapped some weeds and began to smoke. Warlick came out of the room, adjusting his trousers. His head was still wet. Brian smiled and stood up immediately. It was almost five-thirty. "Before we leave, I want to know why you don't want to pay her a visit since you know where she lives. "I told you yesterday; I don't want her to hate me." Brian said. His friend continued standing. "Warlick, let's go." "You haven't said anything," Warlick said sitting on the pavement. Brian sat beside him. "Her new boyfriend knows what I did to her elder sister, and he would not hesitate to tell her everything." "Her sister was a student at this school?" Warlick asked. Brian nodded his head slowly. "Who is she and wh
The next day, Brian woke up early and stood at the window, waiting for Gabrielle. He was yet to dress up for work. His friend slept in his girlfriend's lodge, so he was all alone fantasizing about a beautiful future with Gabrielle. He frowned when he saw Mike walking towards Anarchy lodge. He knew where he was going. After some minutes, Gabrielle and Mike came out again, holding each other. Brian kept smiling as he stared at her. When they had gone out of sight, he felt like coming out of the room to see her more. Mike and Gabrielle parted ways when they got to the school block. Gabrielle headed towards Hall B for her General studies. Agatha had already secured a comfortable space for both of them. She waved at Gabrielle when she saw her approaching the hall. Gabrielle grinned and began to walk in her direction. "Hi, Aga," Gabrielle smirked before sitting on the chair. She was surprised her friend was not smiling. "Babe, what's up?" She asked. "Honestly, I don't like what
Gabrielle was awoken by the constant buzzing of her phone. She sighed and rolled over. Her husband traveled out of the country last week and they were expecting him that day. He pulled the phone closer and stared at the caller, it was Agatha, her best friend. She reluctantly picked up the call. Agatha had never failed to call her since she put to bed six weeks ago. "Gabby, your baby's picture is garnering attention on social media. You need to add your maiden name to your name. Felicia…you remember her right?" Agatha asked. "Yes," Gabrielle responded with a low tone. She could not believe her friend woke her up because of her baby's pictures she uploaded on social media. "She said our friends have a group chat but no one knows your whereabouts. Please add your maiden so they will find you. Do it now and call me back," Agatha said and hung up. Gabrielle added her maiden name just as her friend suggested and tossed the phone aside. She stood up and checked the time, it was a few mi
Brian, Gabrielle, and their son spent the week having fun and playing games around the house and in the garden. Rita had an issue with her husband, she intended to stay with her brother for a while. However, she packed her things and returned to her husband to give them space. Brian and Gabrielle's love for each other made her so jealous. The little Brian was lovable and fun to play with. His father did not stop carrying him around. He filled the house with beautiful toys for him. He kept appreciating Gabrielle for not considering abortion. On Monday morning, Brian and Gabrielle were still in bed. None of them felt like going to work. She rolled out of the bed weakly and Brian pulled her back. "Where are you off to?" "To the office""No, you need some days off and plan your birthday which falls on Saturday. Let's give your people a little surprise."Gabrielle quickly put her palm on her lips. She couldn't believe Brian remembered her birthday. She didn't remember telling him anyt
"Do you remember the first day we met?" Brian asked, staring into her eyes. Gabrielle nodded with a smile. "I fell in love with you that day, but I felt we will never be together. Mike was very smart and intelligent. He figured out I'm in love with you and called me dateless love.""Dateless as in timeless?""He meant I would never date you. You are beyond my league.""I never knew how much I loved you until I watched the cops take you away. My heart broke into pieces. I cried, but you didn't notice. "I did and I felt bad. I would have avoided the fight.""What happened when you left?" Gabrielle asked. "I was detained and set free after some days. I had no money to clear the outrageous hospital bills Mike's family gave me, I had to sell the land. I regretted not selling it earlier and established myself. When I remembered the business I ventured into was your idea, I knew everything happened at the right time. I wouldn't have invested the money wisely if I hadn't met you.""Which i
Mr. Ruben walked into Brian's office when he closed work for the day. He saw their boss leaning on his desk and Gabrielle crouching on his side. He frowned but tried to conceal his disappointment. He wanted Gabrielle desperately. "Sir, here are the account details you requested," he said dropping a file on the desk and walking slowly away. "Momi, let's go home," he muttered, planting a kiss on her forehead. Gabrielle picked up her handbag and began to leave the office. Brian held her hand. "We are going out together," he grinned. His seductive smile hadn't changed a bit "Gabby, you are extremely persistent, I'm not letting you out of my sight." Brian held her hand as he walked to his car. The company's chauffeur had positioned the car, waiting for him. "I want to get my bag.""Where is it?" He asked. "At the logistics office.""We are going to pick it up on our way out. Hop in Let's go."Rita entered the passenger's side, Brian and Gabrielle entered the rear side. Brian pulled Ga
Gabrielle alighted hurriedly when the cab she boarded pulled over in front of her apartment. She did want Brian to come after her. She ignored all the surprised eyes that were staring at her and began to pack a few of her and her baby's things. "Talk to me, Gabby, what happened?" Agatha held her bag. "Agatha, please…""Do you think I'll let you walk out of that door without telling me what happened?" Agatha asked. Gabrielle took the baby and began to dress him up. "I saw his father," she whimpered. "I'm booking a same-day flight to Pretoria. Phillip has been begging me to marry him, I think I'm ready to marry him," Gabrielle said. "Whose father?" Agatha asked. "Brian's father.""Whoo!" Agatha screamed happily. "Finally!" Agatha continued screaming. Gabrielle ignored her and lifted her baby and began to walk towards the door. "Wai..wai…wait! Are you running away from the man you have been searching for for the past two years? You are so difficult Gabrielle!" "He is married an
Gabrielle went to work very early the next day, ready for her boss. She switched her system on and began to work. Two company security men walked into her office without knocking. Gabrielle shot them a cold stare and understood something was amiss. "You are invited to a disciplinary hearing in the boss's office," they announced. Gabrielle stood up immediately and followed them. The members of the board were already there waiting for her. She greeted them and gestured to a chair. Mr. Ruben listed all the policies she had violated so far, and none of them were true. Gabrielle tried to defend herself, but the board members did not believe her. She was given a six months suspension without salary. According to the board members, the company was newly established and couldn't afford to pay workers who were suspended. Gabrielle picked up her things and left the company with tears in her eyes. Six months of living without a monthly salary was very difficult for Gabrielle and her son. P
Gabrielle and Phillip had been knocking on the main gate of their house, but no one responded. She sat down at the foot of the gate and continued dialing her brother's number. "Joe, open the gate, I have been knocking for ages. Gabrielle said as soon as her brother picked up the phone. "Dad is with the key. There is nothing I can do," Joe whimpered. "Why are you whimpering, is he there?" Gabrielle asked. "Yes""Move away from there and talk to me.""Gabby, there is nothing I can do. He is with the key and he knows you are knocking.""Where does he expect me to go?""To hell!" Mr. Williams roared and the call disconnected. Gabrielle's frustration was apparent. She couldn't believe her family had decided to throw away the baby and the bathing water. Her father did not care about safety anymore. "Come with me, I'll bring you back tomorrow morning," Phillip said, squatting before her. Gabrielle nodded and stood up. She had no options, so she stood and walked towards the car. The ne
"Good evening, dad," Gabrielle whimpered when she got closer to her dad. Mr. Williams ignored her and fixed his eyes on a newspaper he was reading. Gabrielle stood still and waited for his response, but all to no avail. Since the news of her pregnancy got to all the members of the family, they had been treating her like an outcast who brought nothing but a disgrace to her family. Her mom hardly responded to her greetings too. She wanted to rent an apartment and move out of her sister's house, but she did not have enough money to move.Gabrielle left her dad and walked into the building, wiping tears that were dripping through her eyes. Her younger brother screamed and gave her a warm embrace when she walked into the family's lounge. "Gabby, you took us unawares. Danielle called this afternoon, she never told us you were coming," Joseph, her immediate younger brother said with a smile. "I wanted to spend some time here, but with dad's attitude, I'm going to leave as soon as I'm thr
Mike took a deep breath as he began to dial the number. He was surprised when Agatha's name pop up. Mike looked at the phone number again, it was the same number he had been calling since he alighted from the school bus. He gave out a long sigh. He could not believe the caretaker sold Agatha's number to him for such an outrageous amount. Mike continued staring at the phone number written in Gabrielle's handwriting. He carefully folded the paper and dipped it into his pocket. "Hi, Mike," Agatha said as soon as she picked up the phone. "Is she there with you?" "No," Agatha muttered quietly. "She has gone. Did you forget the time I told you?" "No, but …never mind" "Mike we are friends, talk to me," Agatha said. Mike took a deep breath and rested his head on his palm. "Mike!""I had a little fight with Jane. She delayed me.""I'm so sorry. She gave the caretaker her phone number, I memorized it. I'm going to text it to you now.""Don't worry, she gave the caretaker your number. I'm
