Chapter 90: Orgy

The noise from the bar seeped in through the closed door. I rubbed at my eyes. I looked at the clock. I had been sitting here almost all day trying to figure this stuff out, but I think I finally had some success. I located an inventory that was separated out by drink and calculated by the bottle. I saw where the current inventory was updated each week. From there, I extrapolated a list and made the order online. I tapped the enter button, and everything was done.

I sat back in the chair. I was tired but finally felt like I accomplished something. It had been a long time since I had been challenged like that. Maybe the last time was when Kira was working through the book trying to figure out runes. I never did find that book again. I needed to get my hands on some more books like that. The internet was not a great source. Maybe there was still a stock in Utah if that home still existed.

The thought of even going outside made my stomach do a flip flop. What if Mr. Kline was out there?

I had to stop this. They weren't doing this of their own choice. I'm sure many of them would be incredibly embarrassed when they realized what they were doing. I stood on the chair of the throne and looked out over the crowd. Some couples had joined each other and were in a full orgy.I concentrated on the purple haze. I had seen the way Mr. Kline's magic worked. He sent out tendrils of magic from his body. Maybe I could project like that, too. I could go around and touch each one of them, sapping Karma's magic out of them, but there were a lot of people here. But first, I needed to start with the room.I opened up my magic. I couldn't see my own aura, but I could feel it. I imagined it like a vacuum. I pulled the purple haze in towards me and trying to suck it in my body. Slowly it moved. The magic felt strange. Powerful. This was the magic of a Force of Nature. It was way more than a goddess, like Juno. It had a sweet and bitter taste to it. It felt potent, like eating cheesecake.

Cherry patted my back. She slipped something into my hand as I stared down at the toilet. There wasn't anything in my stomach to come up, just this morning's oatmeal. I squeezed the thing in my hand. It felt like a rock. My other hand braced against the stall wall to keep my shaking knees from collapsing. I brought the foreign object into view. It was a large clear crystal. I looked over to Cherry."Matei used to take in what he called bad energy every once in a while. He'd have a similar reaction. He never went anywhere without one of these."I nodded. Lanie had used one of these before. I dumped Karma's thick energy into it. As it left me, I started to feel better, lighter. When it was all done, the crystal glowed bright purple."Do you see that?" I asked."See what?""How it glows?"She shook her head. "It looks the same to me."I frowned. That was strange. She could see things outside the Veil, but she couldn't see energy. Just one more thing I would have to figure out in th

A table cleared as the man was deposited on it. People gathered around.Liam pushed through the crowd to the table. "Granite, what happened?""The Grange is pushing back," said one of the orcs that just came in.I slid off the chair and limped forward. Brothers parted for me as I walked through them towards the injured man."On 54th, they were attacking a flower shop under our protection. We took them on, but they had something new. It was so cold and dark. Like a huge cloud. It took Trio.""What do you mean, took him?" Liam asked."It just swallowed him up. He was on the floor, not moving. Five of our men fled. I couldn't move. I was frozen on the spot. The cloud disappeared with him in it. Then people were firing, and I don't know. It was like time skipped forward, and we were under fire." Granite grabbed his head and shook it. "I just don't know."I reached the table. A man lay stretched out. His breath was shallow. Blood streaked down from his mouth. His torso was a bloody m

When I woke up, Liam was gone. The afternoon sun was high in the sky, leaving only a glow of light coming in from the windows. My entire body ached. My limbs felt heavy as I moved them across the huge bed and stumbled to the bathroom. The cold water didn't help when I splashed it on my face. A hot shower didn't help. I felt drained. I felt empty. My ankle was purple and bruised. Every step felt like it would slip sideways again with jolts of pain stabbing up my leg. I hopped around on my good leg after I couldn't stand it anymore. I tried to send energy down to heal it, but I had nothing left. I felt like I could barely function.I used the wall and the handrails to hop down the stairs. Anton was sleeping on the black leather couch with the huge television on. Everything about him irritated me. I realized he was my half-brother, but I couldn't get over how much of a leech he was. What did he even do all day?I stumbled forward, catching my balance on the edge of the couch. Anton sno

A brother sat down next to me. I casually looked over at him as I devoured a chicken wing. He was a giant. His jawbone was large, just like the rest of him. He was taller than Liam by at least six inches, but he was thinner. The muscle on him looked wiry. He was still attractive in his own way, but he didn't have the same charisma Liam did.I laughed to myself. It wasn't like orcs had charisma, but there was something about Liam that was amicable, downright kind for an orc. The others I had interacted with seemed harsh and blunt, but I couldn't blame them."Beloved, if you don't mind." He held out his hand to me."What's your name?""Troy.""Nice to meet you, Troy." I set my fingers on his hand and pulled some energy. He relaxed back in the chair. I continued with my meal. I finished another three chicken wings before I realized I was still pulling. His moans drew my attention. I think I pulled a little too much because he was practically humping the chair. I withdrew my hand qu

I limped all the way to the back area where bigger booths spread out. They fit together to make full circles with tables in the center. End tables spread out everywhere. It seemed like a nice place to lounge or have a meeting, whatever the night entailed. The back ones were lined with curtains. Several of them were drawn. In the center of it all, overlooking the dance floor below, was a huge sectioned off area draped in black curtains. It seemed to be the VIP section. Several orcs stood around the entrance. I slunk closer and heard Liam's voice from inside."Well, did you take care of it?""We tried, but he's not dead," came another male voice.I craned my head to the side to peek in the opening. The orc standing guard opened the curtain wider. He arched an eyebrow at me and nodded his head towards it.I pressed my lips together as I tried to act casual, like I was meant to be here. I slipped around the curtain. Liam sat to the right of me on a large chaise full of pillows. A doz

A figure clad in a pure white suit materialized in front of us. I don't know how long I stared at it until I realized he was actually standing there."Miss Grey-Hatfield?" The man said.I blinked. "Yes?"Liam turned to me. "What?"The man in white continued. "I'm Iridel. I have a few questions about your recent transactions pertaining to the contract of Angandriel.""What about it?"Liam looked between Iridel and me. "Are you talking to someone?"I turned to him. "Can you not see him?" I turned back to Iridel. "Can he not see you?"Iridel shook his head."Can you change that?"Iridel frowned."Please?""Fine." Iridel snapped his fingers.Liam's head snapped to the angel. A low guttural growl escaped him. Iridel ignored him."The questions, Miss Grey-Hatfield?""Go ahead."White smoke puffed in his hand, and a notebook and pen materialized. A knock at my door roused me from my sleep. "Come in," I said in a deep groggy voice.Cherry's bouncy curls popped through the door. "Are you decent?"I looked down at my T-shirt that read "Cutie Pie" on it. "Yes?"She pushed the door open. She carried a dozen bags on each arm. Two brothers followed her through carrying more.I rubbed the sleep from my eyes. "What's going on?"Cherry gave me a cheery smile as she set the bags down on my bed. She turned to the men behind her. "Just set them on the floor, boys. Thanks."They obeyed and she shooed them out with a hand. "Girl time now, off you go.""Girl time?" I asked. She nodded solemnly. "You are in desperate need of it. Here." She chucked a phone at me. It was a fancy smartphone with a touch screen and everything. "It's got a new number, so creepo can't call you anymore.""Umm... thanks, but this is too much. There is no way I can afford this." I held up the phone and then waved around me. "Let alone any of this."She rolled

I don't know how long I lay there crying and wailing and sniffling. I couldn't believe he was gone. I'd been played. I'd let the darkness use him and use me. I needed to be smarter. I needed to figure out what she was doing before it happened. How did one even learn those sort of skills? I was no hero. I was nothing. The deep pit of depression pulled at me throughout the hours as I lay on the cold hard ground. I couldn't pull myself up. I couldn't go on. I had killed Mila and now I had killed Remi. I let Kezia and Matei die. No matter what I did, I was never good enough to save the people I loved. I'd even killed my own mother. What was wrong with me? I was living ball of bad luck. Bad Karma.I raised my head. Had Karma done this to me? Was that the reason? I slowly pushed into a sitting position."Karma!" I screamed. I had nothing left; otherwise, I would have pushed so much power into her name; it would have knocked the rest of the castle over. "Karma! Did you do this to me!?" M

  • Darkness   Chapter 131: Dragon

Yes, I was looking at a freaking Dragon in front of me. It must have been three stories tall. What is that, thirty feet? It was freaking huge. Its black scales glittered in the moonlight, and if I weren't shaking in my boots and worried about being eaten alive, I would have thought it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Atlas, it was terrifying. Complete and utter terror gripped my throat, even more than the ominous darkness that used to chase me home from work. This thing had fangs and claws and wings! It was the embodiment of a predator and it was assigned to kill me.The thing reeled back its head after in a great roar as if to bellowed out fire on me, the tiny figure standing in front of it. I instinctively rose the Aurora sword in front of me. Instead of normal flame, it blew out a steady stream of black and purple fire. The sword sliced it in half, protecting me. After the breath, it turned its head and gazed at me with one bright golden hazel eye. The fearsome intel

I woke up bound and gagged in a very cold and dark place. I could hear water dripping somewhere far off. The smell of mold and dirt filled my nostrils while the wet, cold air penetrated my clothing made me shiver. I pulled at the power I had stored inside me, but it was gone. It felt as if I had been completely drained. I even felt drained of life.I wiggled in the grime until I was able to free my gag. "Hello?" My voice echoed off what sounded to be stone walls.I could be anywhere. For a moment, I thought I was dead, but I think I was too uncomfortable to be dead just yet. After much struggling, I was able to sit."Remi?" I whispered. "Angie? Sandriel? Natalia? Anyone? Can anyone hear me?""No one can," a familiar voice echoed. It surprised me at how close it was, maybe only a few feet in front of me. The deep smooth female voice was easy to place. The water dripping in the background grew silent. Even the air around me stopped."Karma," I said."Oh, aren't you just so smart

  • Darkness   Chapter 129: Life

The dark forest started to clear as I flew forward on my delicate wings. The first thing to catch my eye in the firelight was Kezia strapped to a pole in the middle of the nexus circle surrounded by what looked to be human bones. The rose bushes that were planted six years ago were the size of people, bushy, and well cared for. Their blooms were just starting to fade as the fall equinox rose. A hundred or so crystals sparkled in the moonlight spread out over the complicated circles drawn in the dirt. Mila stood at the edge of the circle chanting in a language I couldn't make out.Kezia's eyes darted towards me as I appeared out of the trees. Mila immediately stopped her chant as she looked in my direction. A wicked, too big smile gaped open. Pointed teeth spilled across her face. She extended her fingers out and flicked them at me.Dark tendrils of shadows leaped from the trees. They wrapped around my ankles and wrists, pulling me down to the ground. I could feel the familiar fear gr

  • Darkness   Chapter 128: Plea

I stood looking out at the stars in the night sky from the roof of the Ardor bar building. The power from the crystals thrummed beneath my skin as I swirled it inside me, converting it to my pink energy. I needed to do this. I had to go all out like I had done for the brothers in order to save Kezia. It wasn't fair that she was taken hostage because of me.I closed my eyes. I searched deep inside the well of power within me and whispered, "Remi." The word escaped my lips with a deep insistence with power behind it.The night pressed in thick around me like a cloud that descended and hung about in a fog. I realized it was Remi's shadow fighting his summoning."Remi," I bit out. The power behind the word was sharp. The shadows merged into his figure. He stumbled forward on to his hands and knees before me."Kira," he heaved a breath. "Where did you learn that trick?""I need you to take me to Kezia."He lifted his head. "Don't do that. Forget about Kezia. She's lost. Just let it b

The evening died down. I was left sitting alone again, but this time my basket of crystals was full of energy. Their surfaces pulsed with pink light. The elves' energy was different, but it was intense. It wasn't as easy to mix with my own, but when I did, I felt powerful.I collected the basket and went downstairs. I bid good night to Cherry with a nod. I carried my basket through the back then started up the stairs."Beloved," Liam's deep voice drew my eyes up from the stair steps.I nodded. "Liam.""Where are you going with all those crystals?""I was taking them to my room to practice."His eyebrow ridges knit down. "Practice what?"I smiled innocently. "I'm just testing what I can do. Don't worry; I'll be careful."He eyed me suspiciously. I tried not to let my smile waiver. I felt like he could see right through me, but I held firm. I had to do this. I couldn't just let Kezia die, not like Mila."Alright, be careful. Good night, Beloved.""Good night." I inched around h

I sat outside in the parking lot were a bar counter, numerous tables and chairs, and many lights decorated the area. The elves sat politely at the tables, drinking their fancy top-shelf drinks. The Ardor Brothers pretended to be having a good time, but the suspicious glances between the two factions put a damper on the party.Lord Quillion finally strode across the parking lot towards us. He took a seat in front of me with a pained look.I remained silent with a smile on my face. No more plastic smiles for me. This one was genuine."Lord Quillion," I said."Beloved," he responded. He said it as if it tasted bitter on his tongue. That made me smile wider.Cole spread the contract out on the table between us. "Let me fight for you."I shook my head. "This is my fight."He gave me a worried glance but gave a slight nod. "Good luck, Beloved."Granite gave me a soft punch. "We're counting on you." They both turned and stood to block the entrance to the bar. They watched me with their iron-grey eyes. I couldn't help but smile. For such cold, hardened warriors, they had such warmth in their hearts.I turned my attention back to Lord Quillion. He stood at the center and lifted his long sword to the sky. Dark clouds appeared and swirled overhead. Blue lighting ripped from the sky on to the sword. He held pointed it toward me, then screamed a battle cry.I cringed. It sent a primal surge of fear through me. I stood my ground as he ran forward with the sword. For a moment, I felt frozen, but I calmed my thoughts and felt for

I didn't sleep. I paced the room. I tossed and turned in bed, but I never managed a wink of sleep. Hours ticked by. Painful minutes ticked by. There was nothing. No word. No text or message. I was just stuck in the dark and I didn't dare bother them because it could mean life and death. At seven o'clock in the morning, I stumbled down the stairs on tired legs. I wanted to sleep, needed it, but I couldn't. I made some cereal and sat looking out at the sun in the sky over the city. The harsh sun reminded me of my garden. I let my mind wander to that peaceful place. I thought about the blooms, the sun, and the pink glow. Before I knew it, I was standing in my garden. The plants were still there, but they looked wilted. The ones next to the stream were okay, but the rest looked a little frazzled. I added more of the glittering water next to them and they slowly perked up. I touched others and they blossomed again. The tiredness slowly drained from me as I walked through my creations.I
