Chapter 35 - Summoned

Nesrin

One second we were all together. The next, a thick fog rolled in, and it was as if we had been ripped into an alternate reality.

Everything was way too quiet. My scars seemed to ache more than usual, and I could help but feel like we were being watched.

"Stay close," Lir muttered under his breath.

I took a step closer to the Commander. The fog wrapped around us, cutting us off from the others. I gripped my bow and notched an arrow in preparation for whatever creature had decided to cross our path today.

"Apollo," I shouted through the thicket of the fog. But silence only answered in return

Chapter 36 - Broken PromisesApolloI recognized her voice, the angelic tone that was so serene it should only exist in dreams. But I didn't recognize her face. Nothing about the witch before me was familiar in the sense of looks. She was as much of a stranger to me as anyone else in this place."And you know me how?" I quizzed my voice flat. She let out an airy laugh before standing up from her throne and walking towards me."Ahhh, yes, I suppose I was a little different when we met all those years ago. Maybe this will jog your memory," The witch waved her hand and the clay and gold dust that had decorated her otherwise naked body vanished and was replaced with olive skin and black markings. The marking lined her arms, making their way up past her shoulders.

  • Dark Promises    Home

Chapter 37 - HomeNesrin I screamed until my throat was raw until my voice broke entirely. Watching Apollo collapse to the ground and begin convulsing was the most horrific thing I had ever witnessed. But the moment that broke my heart into pieces was when he stopped moving. His body, becoming unnaturally still, his skin paling, and the presence of his magic slowly started fading away."Stop it. Stop it, please, "I begged, the magic that held onto me let up enough for me to watch the horror unfold."I'm begging you to stop. Let him go. I'll stay. I'll do whatever you want. Just stop," I cried out. One of the witches grabbed me, their hands squeezing my arm enough to make it hurt. "No use begging, mutt," Their voice was masculine, and when I looked over at the head witch, she was laughing. "Apollo," I screamed out again as I was dragged up to the dais. The male grabbed a fist full of my h

Chapter 38 -Nesrin The soft sheets against my skin were the first thing I noticed as I slowly woke. I could already tell my body was feeling lighter than it had felt in the last month. The familiar smell of lilacs and lavender filled the air, and the humming of the magic that surrounded me made the anxiety and fear melt away. I was home. I was safe.I wanted to believe that everything that had happened was just a horrible nightmare. That Ahmes and Apollo were fine. I wanted to pretend that I never made a deal that would wreak havoc on the world. I wanted to believe that when I opened my eyes and allowed myself to wake up fully that everything would be as it once was. But I knew it never would be again. Something about me now felt empty, hollow. Ahmes's presence was a mere whisper in my mind. I couldn't even sense her stirring like she usually did when I woke for the day. My body also didn't absorb the magic a

  • Dark Promises    Awakened

Chapter 39 - Awakened ApolloI never understood why people believed that death was peaceful. That once you were gone, your soul was at peace. How could they know? Why were they always so quick to think that you didn't suffer once you ascended into the afterlife?I had always been a skeptic, especially after watching Ilaria die in my arms. The screams of her pain were still so clear, as if she was still screaming as if I was still living in that moment. How could anyone find peace after enduring so much pain? How could the mothers allow us such luxuries after what we had done?I wondered if that was all Nesrin would remember of me, if she could even remember me after whatever that witch had promised to do to her. I wished I could have killed them. I owed Nesrin that much after everything she had sacrificed for me. Gods, I failed her. I swore to protect her, and I wasn't strong enough to stay true to my word. But what was

  • Dark Promises    Guilty

Chapter 40 - GuiltyApolloI stilled at the sound of Knox; he sounded different. His presence was heavier than I remembered, stronger. I pulled away from Nesrin, looking down at her in shock. "What's wrong," Nesrin asked, slightly tilting her head as she looked up at me. Her long wavy onyx hair fell over her shoulder. The blue in her sapphire eyes was somewhat duller than before, maybe from exhaustion. She was stunning. The scar wasn't as red and angry anymore, but it still looked sore. The fact that she was here in front of me was a miracle. It showed just how strong and resilient she was. The scar only added go her beauty; she was a fighter, and she was all mine. I didn't know what I did to deserve someone so kindhearted as her, but I thanked the mothers for such a gift."You did it," I said in disbelief. The corner of her lip pulled up. "How?" Her smile faltered slightly, a hint of sadness in her eyes

  • Dark Promises    Wildrose

Chapter 41 - WildroseNesrinMy body felt completely energized after last night, but I knew it wouldn't last. The sparks of our bond made me feel whole, even though I knew I wasn't. The further I got from Apollo, the more apparent it became, but I had a duty to fulfill today, and I wouldn't falter until I had seen it through. Apollo's touch still lingered on my skin. Every movement, every tender kiss engraved into my mind. The way Apollo had worshipped my body had sent sparks throughout my body. The smell of strawberries and crisp winter clung to me, mixing with the scent of roses and ginger. It was my new favourite smell, the smell of our unity, our love. But as the sun rose to greet the night sky, farewell. I had reluctantly left our world of false peace too. I didn't tell Apollo of my plans. I hadn't even told him of my last encounter with Dela either. But I would after I confronted the council and our people.

  • Dark Promises    Cold Hearted

Chapter 43 - Cold HeartedNesrinThe silence was the only thing that greeted us as we made our way out of the throne room towards my father's office. Apollo and I followed my parents and brother. Behind us walked my grandfather, and a few guards followed us. No one spoke as we entered his study, the weight of the room suddenly feeling too heavy. Making my stomach turn and my nerves uneasy. The importance of the untold truths that would never leave my lips made me feel worse than a traitor. Apollo pulled me into his side as we sat on the leather sofa in my father's office. My mother, father, grandfather and Damon were staring at us, waiting for us to explain what happened now that we were in private. I felt like I couldn't breathe, my heart racing in my chest. The mixture of their emotions was suffocating. "I'll be the first to say it. You are fucking stupid if you think we buy any of the bullshit you spewed in the

Chapter 44 - PropositionApolloListening to Nesrin's brother talk to her like that made my blood boil. It took everything in me not to snap and put him in his place. Yes, what we did was stupid and reckless, but she already knew that. Angry or not, he had no right to speak to her with such disrespect. After he left, I relaxed a little but having to stay behind when I knew she needed me was gut retching and had me on edge once again. After what had happened in the throne room and then in her father's office, I didn't know what I was in for. But whatever it was that he needed to speak to me about, I wouldn't take it lying down. I was exhausted, and my patience was long gone. I just wanted to be with my mate and forget the world for a little longer before making sure everything didn't go to complete shit. The world was on a time limit, and they didn't even know it was already ticking away.I wat

EpilogueNesrin*One Year Later*The last year had gone by faster than I thought it would. Adjusting to a life without my mother was hard. Experiencing things without her was harder. She had always been around to talk. Her presence, all-knowing looks, and words of wisdom were always calming. She had sacrificed her life to protect us and our people, and it was something that would never be forgotten. But on the hard days, the days where she should have been celebrating with us, like today. They were the days that hurt the most, making it a little harder to smile and put on a brave face. Grief was a weird thing; it always seemed to sneak up on you. But today, we would honour her instead of grieve her, as she would have wanted us to be happy. Likewise, she would have wanted me to be happy and worry-free.Today was a special day, one that she would have loved to see, one she probably had seen in a vision. Today was the day I stood in front of the council members. In front of our friends

Chapter 56 - New BeginningsApolloThe ceremony was brutal. Hearing the families cry for their loved ones was heartbreaking. And watching Nesrin and her family say goodbye to Athena was even worse. The whole Kingdom came to say goodbye to the fallen. The bodies of the Fae who died were buried so they could return to the earth and be reborn. Their magic was then absorbed by the flowers and plant life that thrived in our realm, and their spirits returned to our Terra once again. The bodies of the werewolves and other beings were placed on pallets, and their bodies burned to release their spirits into the air so they could return to their creators.Once most of the families had been consoled by the royal family. It was their turn to say goodbye to Athena. I stood by Nesrin the whole time as she said her goodbyes to her mother. Then, one by one, everyone took their turn to have a moment with her.Silas and Erik held i

The whole realm felt the moment she passed, but he still needed to confirm it. The presence of her magic disappeared from our world. Chapter 54 - The Falling Of Two QueensNesrin I was trapped in a nightmare, unable to wake. I was forced to witness everything. From watching Dela use her powers to kill being after being that crossed her. There was so much bloodshed. She had instilled so much fear and chaos in such a short amount of time, she was void of all emotions. She was a true monster, and her time in the Underworld had helped further her bloodthirst.I wanted to vomit, and though time didn't exist while being trapped in my own mind. I knew only a few hours had passed because we hadn't even made it to the Fae realm yet. I dreaded it, but I hoped that the wards my mother put in place would be enough to buy them time. I hoped that Drabek was still alive and able to arrive to aid my family in time. But all the hope have them having more time was shattered as a knock sounded from the other side of the door."It's time," A muffled voice sounde

I swallowed hard, unsure whether this was real or some mind game Dela had started. With her being able to project herself out of the Underworld undetected all those years. We were practically blind when it came to knowing her powers' true strength. Drabek took a tentative step towards us; the guards around us raised their swords in a warning. "You're alive," I said in disbelief. We had gone two years without knowing whether they had survived or not—two years of not knowing whether we needed to mourn them."Well, I wouldn't say these two were ever really alive," Drabek teased, jerking his head towards Lir and Kier, who grunted in response. "I'm guessing these are friends of yours," Balthazar said. "I wouldn't ever be

Chapter 52 - Unexpected HelpApolloI felt the spell snap when Nesrin's presence disappeared from our realm. A strange feeling settled over me. Fear and anger were just a couple of the emotions I was feeling. Nesrin always risked everything to protect the people she cared about. Now it would be my turn to risk it all to save her.I left Audra with the girls and raced out to the dining hall. Everyone stopped talking, turning their attention towards me—confused expressions on their faces. "She's gone," I said, my heart pounding against my chest. Balor was the first to stand. "Who's gone, Apollo?" Damon asked, his brows pinched together. "Nesrin, Dela took her," I answered. A tense silence settled over the table. Balor slammed his hand against the table, making everyone jump. "Fucking, hell. I swear to the mothers that I will be the one who teaches that bitch a lesson,"

His face was void of all emotion as he stared at me. He was trying to intimidate, make me cower before him. Balthazar hoped that the years of torture had made me weak and easy to manipulate. But I knew better. He knew that once I got out of here, the only way he could defeat me was to kill the Queen of all realms. Something he would never do. Not when it could cost him the affections of his precious little trophy wife.At first, I wanted nothing more than to destroy Athena for trapping me in the pits of the Underworld. But thanks to her little deal, I was now tied to her life. What she thought to be an eternity of misery for me was now about to be the reason why I reclaimed my rightful place in the Kingdom of Gardenia. "Surrender now, and I will reduc

Chapter 50 - OblivionNesrinI couldn't sleep; not knowing when I would be summoned to the Underworld kept my mind anxious. The ache my scars seemed to be giving me lately made it impossible to get comfortable either way.I heard a loud yell followed by a female scream echoing down the hall from Balor's room. I jumped from my bed and raced to the door. "Stay with the girls," I said as I heard Apollo follow after me. I ran out into the hallway before he could answer. I rushed towards Balor's door; vines and a strong ward encased the door, making it impossible for me to get past it. I banged on the door as hard as I could. "Balor, Reyna," I shouted as I banged my fist against the door harder."Balor," Reyna's voice pleaded. My heart hammered against my chest. Was this it? Chapter 49 - InsanityLir I was going to rip the King's throat out when I got a chance. Not that he even deserved the fucking title. My father fucked up when he hooked up with some dumb bitch he met in his meetings with the Dark Queens council. They created that abomination, and he had somehow slithered his way to the top after his mother managed to kill my father and make it look like some fucked up accident. But you reap what you sow, and she was his karma wrapped up in perfect curves, a pound of makeup and blonde hair that was as fake as her personality. And now, I would be the one who took back what she and my father stole from me long ago.The fact that I was stuck down here to be punished for betraying the crown was a joke in itself. He said I was too good to be killed, the best Commander they had. Despite who I was and how I got to this point. The bastard would keep me here starved for a few months in hopes I would learn my
