Hema’s heart pounded in her chest as she ran through the dense woods, her breath coming in sharp, ragged gasps. The night air was thick with the scent of damp earth, and the occasional crunch of leaves beneath her bare feet sent a jolt of fear through her. She couldn’t afford to make a sound. Her hands trembled as she pressed herself against the rough bark of a tree, straining to hear beyond the rapid beating of her own heart.

Somewhere in the distance, she heard Nina’s voice cutting through the silence. “Find her! She couldn’t have gone far!” The urgency in Nina’s tone sent a shiver down Hema’s spine. They were close. Too close.

Desperate, she crouched down and blindly reached for something—anything—that could help her. Her fingers brushed against a small stone, cool and smooth against her palm. She swallowed, calculating the distance between her and Nina’s approaching footsteps. With a silent prayer, she hurled the stone to the side, aiming it toward a thicket of bushes.

The car skidded violently on the muddy road, the tires losing grip as Hema fought desperately to control the steering wheel. The cold night air was thick with mist, the dense trees looming like silent sentinels on either side of the narrow, winding path. Her heartbeat pounded in her ears, louder than the roaring engine. She knew she didn’t have much time before they would realize she was missing. The headlights flickered against the treeline as she pressed harder on the gas, but the car jerked unexpectedly, hitting a rock, causing the steering to wrench from her grip. The vehicle spun out of control, careening toward the lake at the end of the road. Hema’s breath hitched in terror as the front wheels hit the water first, and the rest of the car followed with a deafening splash. Ice-cold water rushed in through the cracks, seeping into her clothes as she gasped for air.Her limbs felt sluggish. She tried to reach for the door handle, but the pressure of the water kept it shut. Her ches

But even in pain, she smirked.Zayden stood before her, his face devoid of emotion, but his dark eyes burned with the fire of vengeance. He didn’t waste time. His hand lashed out, slapping her so hard that her head snapped to the side, blood splattering against the cold concrete wall.“You knew,” Zayden growled, his voice like a blade slicing through the air.Nina let out a bitter laugh, her lips curling in mock amusement. “Knew? Oh, Zayden… I was behind it.”Her admission sent his rage spiraling out of control. His fist slammed into the metal table beside her, the sound echoing through the room.“Tell me where is she,” he demanded.Nina wiped the blood from her mouth and looked up at him, her eyes shining with something unsettling—admiration. “You never even noticed me, did you? Two days had passed since Hema vanished. Zayden’s men scoured the city, storming every possible hiding place. Abandoned buildings, secret hideouts, distant inns—nothing was left unchecked. His men moved like shadows, intimidating, threatening, and breaking down doors, but she was nowhere to be found. There was only one logical conclusion—Hema was still in the country. She had no passport, no visa. If she had crossed the border, there would have been records. That meant she was hiding, and Zayden was prepared to burn the entire country down if he had to.Then, the breakthrough came. One of his men found an abandoned car, half-sunken in a muddy pond on the outskirts of a remote village. The vehicle was traced back to Nina, the secretary his father had assigned to assist Hema. But there was no sign of the two women.Zayden arrived in the village in the dead of night. The moment his polished black boots touched the soil, an uneasy silence spread through the crowd of villagers gathered aro

Hema and Karan never shared a room.It was unspoken but understood. She stayed in the small guest room at the back of the house, a quiet space with a simple bed and a window overlooking the courtyard. Karan’s room was on the other side, closer to Aara’s .They lived together, shared meals, raised Aara side by side—yet they kept their distance.Maybe it was out of respect.Maybe it was because if they got too close, they’d have to acknowledge the feelings they were pretending didn’t exist.Or maybe, deep down, they both knew that this was temporary. That one day, she would leave, and it would hurt far less if they never crossed that line. But some nights, that distance didn’t matter.⸻Midnight WhispersAara had always been a restless sleeper. Some nights, she would cry softly, stirring in her crib. Other nights, her wails would echo through the silent house, shattering the fragile peace of the night. And every time, before Karan could even wake up—Hema was already there. She moved qu

Hema barely reacted when Zayden turned the key and pulled the heavy door open. The lock clicked open—a sound that should’ve brought her relief. But she knew better. Zayden never did anything without a reason. He stood there, watching her with unreadable eyes, his tall frame leaning against the doorframe like he had all the time in the world. She waited for him to speak, to issue another one of his smug, condescending commands. But he didn’t.Hema didn’t ask why he was suddenly setting her free. There was no point. Speaking to him was like speaking to fire—no matter how much sense you made, you’d only end up burned.Instead, she walked past him, silent and deliberate. But she barely made it two steps before his hand closed around her wrist.Hema stiffened. His grip wasn’t painful, but it was firm—possessive, in the way that only Zayden knew how to be.“Ignoring me now, sweetheart?” His voice was calm, laced with amusement. • DEVIL’s GRIP   Chapter 103-The Unannounced Visit

The afternoon sun hung lazily over Zayden’s mansion, casting a golden glow across the sprawling estate. The place was eerily quiet, the kind of silence that carried danger within its folds. Zayden had made sure of that—his security was tighter than ever, and his movements had become calculated. For few days now, he had barely stepped out of his home, which had raised suspicions in the underworld. His enemies wondered if he was plotting something. His allies whispered about his uncharacteristic retreat. But Mia—she knew better.Something was keeping him here.Or rather, someone. And today, she intended to find out who.⸻Hema sat in the lush garden of the mansion, absorbed in a book. The gentle rustling of leaves, the warm afternoon breeze, and the rare moment of peace made her feel almost normal. Without a word, he slipped off his heavy black coat and draped it over her shoulders.Hema flinched, stiffening under his touch. She turned her head slightly, her eyes narrowed.“What is this?” she muttered, gripping the edges of the coat.Zayden’s expression was unreadable, but his voice was firm. “You’re cold.”Hema scoffed, shoving his hand off her. “Since when do you care?”Zayden didn’t answer. He simply grabbed her wrist, his grip firm but not painful, and started leading her forward.“Let’s go,” he said.“Go where?” she snapped, resisting.“Shopping.”Hema frowned. “I don’t want—”But Zayden didn’t wait for her to finish. The sun hung high in the sky, casting golden streaks of light through the large windows of the mansion. It was past midday, and the estate was quiet—too quiet. Zayden sat in his office, his fingers loosely gripping a glass of whiskey while his phone rested against his ear.Mark’s voice came through the other end, firm and serious. “We’ve taken care of it. They won’t reach her.”Zayden exhaled, rolling the glass in his palm. “Make sure of it, Mark. I don’t want any mistakes.”Mark nodded from the other end. “Understood, boss.”With that, the call ended.Zayden leaned back in his chair, his jaw tightening. He had too many enemies, too many people who would love to rip Hema away from him. He wasn’t going to let that happen. She was his. No one could take her.A moment later, he stood, his eyes scanning the room. Where was she? He hadn’t seen her since their argument. His gaze landed on the untouched glass of fresh juice on his desk. With a sigh, he picked it up and left the office, searc

Her body still ached, and her mind felt even more exhausted.Zayden, still lounging in bed, had noticed. He had watched her leave with her hair wet, a small smirk tugging at his lips. She must be too distracted to care, he thought. But he knew why.
