CHAPTER 72: CAR CHASE

Caelen’s POV

A breath of relief leaves my lips as Roman and I step into the infirmary and find our brother still laying on the stretcher, completely unharmed. My fingers run through my hair as Roman walks up to Saul and inspects him closely.

“Okay, I think we were wrong. Maybe none of this was a set-up,” I say, but Roman doesn’t say a word. He continues to search the room with his eyes narrowed.

When he starts sniffing the air, my eyebrows furrow in confusion. “What are you doing?” I ask him, and instead of giving me a verbal response, he raises a finger to silence me.

“Do you smell that?” he asks, and that is when I start to sniff the air myself. It was faint, but that delicate scent of sunflowers could not go unmissed.

My eyes widen as the realization dawns on me. She was just here.

Roman and I curse beneath our breath as we make our way out of the infirmary and back outside.
