Sophie took her seat and watched as Cherryl, who was already seated, said something that made the normally solemn guest of honour giggle. Sophie felt a twinge of envy for her sister's ease in public interactions, which she saw tonight in a slim-fitting flame-purple gown. Sophie could work the crowd with the best of them when necessary, but it was a learned skill. That came naturally to Cherryl.

Sophie pondered and considered what she saw in Sage's future. Was it possible to make a change? Is it possible to change the outcome so that she does not end up as a rogue or, worse, hated by Landon's people? What happened today that messed up the next three weeks? First, she deduced from the vision that she had been transferred to Robinson's pack to await the full moon, and then Landon happened to find his true mate?

That was a complete mess. What about her? What about their engagement tonight? And why does everyone in the Robinson pack despise her? What did she do to make them believe she was

Alpha Alfonso’s wife, Luna Annabelle, reached out and laid her hand over her husband’s. "Not the time, Alfonso," she murmured softly. "Relax and enjoy the food, dear." The effort to respond to her warning glance deepened the unhealthy ruddiness, and another couple of shades before the table was engulfed in a painfully awkward silence, broken after a few uncomfortable moments by Luna Ally. "Sophie, I thought you were wearing your necklace earlier?" Sophie shook her head as the tightness in her chest deepened. She strained to keep her brain from spinning with righteous rage. She inhaled deeply and slowly exhaled with flaring nostrils. In her eyes, the Master Alpha was a bad excuse for a parent—he was a bully! A jerk. "A minor mishap, mom," she eventually managed, her gaze moving towards Sage. There had been no mistake in Master Alpha's attempt to humiliate his son. Sage didn't need to be looked after right now, but he didn't deserve—no one did—his father publicly humiliating him, and

Sophie realised she was back in the seer's vision, perhaps three or four weeks from now. This was Landon's mind, and she shivered at the prospect of undoing what had happened the first time she went inside his head. After all, being held as a prisoner for alleged crimes she did not commit was not a reason to consider taking a vacation. "I'm sorry for the mess, Sophie," Alpha Landon grumbled behind her. It had been days since she had been locked up in the prison cell and the failed escape attempt with Sage, even before Landon had left with Roxanne. "I understand, but are you really sure that Roxanne is your true mate? I mean, I know, what we have isn't—um, love, but—really? With Roxanne?" "Why the doubt?" Landon asked. "Because I thought, um, you like my sister?" "That’s true," he said, acting as though her clenched response were actually wisdom and not desperation. "Would you like to come with me while I tell my father that?" Woah! That’s it. This was all Alpha Alfonso’s scheme.

  • DEFYING FATE   Chapter 19- Sage and Sophie

Present Time Sophie went to the garden after watching Landon leave. It was by far the most messed-up vision she had. What the hell happened that made Roxanne mess up her life so badly? In fact, she didn't even know that woman; she knew she was a pack whore who went viral after the topless dance, but why would she hate her? Sophie doesn't have an enemy, or maybe she does. Secretly? After the engagement today, she was sure as hell they would line up. Yet Sophie truly believed her sister, Cherryl, was Landon's true mate. So, what was the point of having Roxanne in the picture? First: she knew she'd be transferred to Robinson's pack in three weeks. Two: she'd be the pack doctor there, and Roxanne would ruin her life. Three: she would not be Landon's true mate; their marriage would not happen; and she would go rogue. Now, where and what in the hell would she screw up to ensure that it never happened? "You don't seem very joyf

Sophie just had to accept it and not fight or want more. This was her destiny. Pawn or not, it was all worth it for the sake of her pack. But why does it hurt? "I'm alright. I'm going inside now. Landon is anticipating my return." She said with a little nod of her head. "I'll see you later then," Sage groaned. He was getting closer. "So you're now the nice guy," she taunted awkwardly as she raised her brow. Sage's eyes had adjusted to the light, and her face was a pale blur, as was her body. The need to reach for her in the darkness was so intense that suppressing it made him shiver like a delirious creature. His wolf was anticipating imprinting on her wolf. "That was my fault, but you deserved a greater proposal." "Not everyone has your command of the romantic language. But guess the only proposals you are familiar with are of the indecent sort." "I may not know much about responsibility, but you have now accepted to marry my brother; therefore, you are entirely out of bounds, e

  • DEFYING FATE   Chapter 21- Carlos and Sage

It was never a good idea to do a psychopath a favor, and there was no doubt that Carlos Halton, Robinson's former beta and the most fearsome warrior, had become just that. Given what had happened to him at a correctional facility at the hands of brutal human soldiers, it was no surprise that he had emotionally shut down. Sage and Carlos had kept one another's backs in that shithole, which is why Sage considered him a comrade—even if he'd lost his sense of morality.Carlos' hatred and disgust for judgmental humans had led him to join the Werewolf Crusade, a group of werewolves who worked to safeguard their kind from human anti-supernatural extremists who repeatedly tried to enact laws such as isolating werewolves to their own regions, prohibiting them from mating with humans, registering each one, and limiting werewolf couples to one child. These radicals claimed that werewolves were too violent, vicious, and animalistic to be near people. Some of those regulations may have passed, spa

  • DEFYING FATE   Chapter 22- Keep her safe

It was strange to see his comrade concerned with anything other than the Werewolf Crusade. Carlos had changed, becoming indifferent and hard as he had spent more time in human jail. They were no longer "people" to him. Those he kept in his life were either colleagues or accomplices—things he could utilise, according to Carlos. Sophie, on the other hand, was obviously very valuable to him, which could only indicate she was his truemate? Perhaps a daughter? "What exactly do you want me to do?" Sage inquired. "My friend, all I ask is that you look after her for a time. In five months, I'll be out of here. I'll take it from there." Sighing, Sage leaned back in his seat. Doing what Carlos had asked wouldn’t be easy, since Alpha Landon hated outsiders around his pack. "You should have gone to Landon with this. He’s the Alpha." "Yeah, but he doesn’t owe me a favour, Sage." Anger thickened Carlos’s voice as he continued. "She’s not safe there with those female fuckers, Sage." "It's likely

Luna Annabelle sniffed haughtily, planting a kiss on Landon’s cheek. "Fine. If you won’t do it for Sophie or Carlos, you could consider doing it for Sage. Carlos isn’t going to like it if Sage doesn’t live up to his word." She raised her brow at the younger man before adding, "Right, dear?" "Yes, mother," agreed Sage. "I’ve heard plenty about Carlos Halton. Apart from the fact that he joined the Crusade, none of it was good." "That’s because he’s mentally disturbed," spat Landon. Luna Annabelle’s brow slowly slid up as she stared at her stepson. "Then I’ll bet you and he get along quite well." Ignoring Sage’s chuckle, Landon slashed a hand in the air. "I’m not having a seer in my pack, mother.." "If Carlos is part of the crusade, he must know a lot of people," mused Luna Annabelle. "Dangerous people who could easily deal with this for him, right?" "He does," verified Sage. "But we all know how the Werewolf Crusade ‘deals’ with things." It involved blood and death. They’d simply g

Robinson’s Pack HouseThirty minutes later, eyes had been glued to Sophie as she made her way to the pack house. Most held hatred and accusation, while others held pity and disappointment. With those emotions battering her, the journey felt like walking through a cold mist. As usual, no one said a single word to her. It was perfectly clear that, although she was still in the pack, she remained a social outcast.Sophie wondered if Landon had summoned her because Roxanne had laid more accusations at her door. Or maybe her punishment was about to increase. Sage had told her that Landon didn’t want to banish her, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t change his mind. Well, there was really only one way to find out. Not until the master alpha would freak out about the treaty not going to happen in the full moon before christmas.Well, whatever it was, and the reason, Sophie doesn't care anymore. Of course she cared, her parent's pack depended on her being the master luna. And if Roxanne messed

Two days later.Sage picked himself up off the floor and realized he could remember nothing from the time he’d entered the doorway hand in hand with Sophie until now. He shook the fuzziness from his head and glanced around, finding Sophie near him. He sighed in relief and reached out to lay a hand on her arm. When Landon jumped from Eve's windows through his unstable passageway yesterday, it made Sage sick. He followed his brother, but to no avail. His trip had not been pleasant, but he wasn’t retching on the floor the way Sophie had been. After then, they knew they'd been poisoned and that Eve's was missing. So many questions remain unanswered. Why Eve?He thought to himself.Greg was already up and examining the room.Sophie got to her feet, and Sage struggled to stand, too. They stood in the middle of a darkened chamber. Symbols were etched into the veined marble floor, and tables, interspersed with tall, carved armoires, lined the room. Bowls and cauldrons sat atop the tables, alo

Drinking it, Edmond added, "Not that it matters; darkness was darkness; I believed it was always their answer, a sad but true reality at the same time.""Yes, my friend." After their hunger plight and exchange of rye bread and beef jerky, they agreed to travel north towards the lake, where some of the two pack allies must reside. After some point, the air was rich with the fragrance of leaves and loam, and it was moist too. Even so, many hours after the rains have passed, the soil remains wet, releasing its heady fog. The melody of running water in the stream has the same slumberous quality as music; Raymond wants to stop just to drink in the melody. On the side, the berries were red and bitter, but with just the right amount of sweetness. He took in all the air her lungs could hold and expelled it. These hikes were like a trip out of her life, a visit to somewhere where the measuring of time was done only by the rising and setting of the sun. Raymond went his way through the skinny t

A few hours later, Alpha Henry took his cup of tea and savored the fresh minty taste. The cup of tea was small enough to fit in the palm of a child, holding that potent brew only the hardiest of the grown-ups could savor. Sipping it, he simply added it and looked at Eve. "By any chance, you knew something about where they took Elizabeth and the rest of them, Eve?""Yes, probably in the Devil's Forest.""Are you sure, Eve?""I'm sure. I was never wrong. The only forest that would disable the werewolves to shift, or more likely, the southern pack, has demon warriors and rogues on their side. It only made sense now. They've abducted Tomas before, and he wasn't able to fight them back, and because he wasn't able to communicate with his wolf, he became feral. Most likely, the one who had Jefferson and his family were feral."Sophie interrupted them, saying, "Eve, what does this devil's forest look like?""Glad you asked. From my knowledge, it was a cursed forest where any supernatural powe

"Who is this, Eve?" Sage appeared from behind them. His lips twisted. The words made the skill sound imperiously elegant. Eve swallowed a lump before she turned around and said, "Alpha Sage, this is Alpha Henry, ally of the north." Henry gasped, I'm sorry, Eve, Alpha Sage? The Alpha Sage? " he asked in bewilderment. Unbelievably surprised, he heard so much about this legendary alpha traveler, but none seemed to have seen him or knew him personally. It had been rumored that he wore a disguise and could vanish in thin air. He was rumored to be the only one who could travel in time and was cursed for eternity. If this was Alpha Sage, then he was indeed fortunate to have such an honor to see him face to face, and knowing that he was indeed real and not just the figment of imagination was a privilege enough. "Yes, I'm Alpha Sage of the Robinson Pack; how did you know me?" A few seconds passed before Henry could answer. "Pardon, um, I heard from, um, rumors, tales, and all," Henry respo

In the afternoon, Alpha Henry arrived at the misty woods and shifted into his human form. Butt-naked, he looked for something to cover himself and found a banana leaf. He wrapped it around his exposed manhood, tied it carefully around his waist, and then whispered a safe passage to the hidden cottage of Eve. Few knew about it, yet he was one of those few who was fortunate enough to know the precise location of her hidden location. Whispering words to the garlands, the foggy cottage was now visible as he knocked on the door and silently waited for Eve to open it. Surveying the surroundings, he noticed how the front door opened slightly, and the enclosed, tiny stone porch carried the aroma of flowers and the warmth of the home. The old wooden veranda was where one would relax when the chance of a conversation with passing neighbors was welcome, yet it was all covered in mud and drops of recent blood. "Eve?" On the left side, some plants reached up past the wooden railings and branched

"Holy crap! Should we help Sage, Raymond?" Sophie asked and was startled by Tomas' howls. They were hiding behind a gigantic tree, trying not to get near two vicious fighters.A minute passed, maybe more, and the only thought that kept pounding through Sophie’s brain was. She has to help him. She has to help Sage."I don't think it's a good idea, Luna Sophie." Eve muttered. "Let them. Don't worry about your mate. He is an alpha for a reason.""Well—" But out of shock, Sophie’s mind wouldn't even let her think, her feet running towards him. Ultimately, she knew he didn't need any help, but she did anyway. "Sage... don't kill, Tomas."Tomas's wolf snapped out of its confusion and snatched its neck from Sages's mouth. In that second, Sage backhands across Tomas’ face. The wolf's head whipped to the side, and the smack echoed around them as he dropped to his bottom onto the moist ground."Stay there, Sophie." Sage yelled. Sophie halted.Red blood flowed from the wolf’s stouts from the spl

Alpha Henry woke up suddenly. It was just a dream, but it felt like it was real. He was confused for a while and tried to remember what happened as his bewildered mind began to ensue. He discovered that he was still on the floor of the banquet hall, below the table, and thankfully hidden. With all that wolfsbane in their drinks, it was all a loss. The northern pack manor didn't burn after all.All around him was blood, and dead bodies lay neglected humans and werewolves in human form. He glanced around and surveyed the banquet hall, yet no one appeared to move. The headache told him it was time to rest someplace quiet, to ride out the storm within his brain, for with time, pain does wane.Unhurriedly and carefully, he sauntered his way out of the manor and breathed in a lungful of the fresh morn

A dozen feet away, Sophie saw all the disregarded cadavers. Ten, or more. Gawking at it, she shuddered from the horror.Dozens of small mounds of earth were visible there. The heaped soil looked very dark in the moonlight. It must have looked even darker to humans. And still, Eve and Raymond did not move.Almost all of it has been disgustingly slaughtered for food, with the head, limbs, and entrails removed. It was suddenly very quiet. Some small thing chittered in a tree. The wind rattled the grass. And then more quiet, silence so deep it almost drowned out the roar of the night music that pounded away in her secret self.Sophie shivered as she thought about how the small dirt road was barely visible. You almost had to know it was there. But she knew. She had been there before. The road ran for two and a half miles, twisting three times through the sawgrass, through the trees, alongside a small canal, deep into the swamp, and into a clearing.Except the old vegetable garden out in th

As Landon’s face passed over, he moistened his clitoral area and smelled the sweetness and sensual scent of her juices. As soon as the underwear was gone, his tongue found her wet mound. Her body trembled as the tip of his tongue flicked back and forth over her protruding clit. Casey spread her legs, and Landon gawked as her engorged lips spread, showing him the entrance to her tight mound. As her lips spread open, they allowed a tiny trickle of dampness to escape. Landon licked it up with his tongue. The intense taste refreshed his mind. He felt her pull on his pants and boxers. She jerked his head up to hers, and as she locked on to his lips, her tongue danced in his mouth, teasing him. Landon felt her cool hand grip his thick, hard shaft."I want this buried in me now!" He compelled and guided the tip of his shaft to the entrance to her moist mound. He began to thrust toward her, only moving enough to wet the head of his rod between her parted lips. Adding some strength, his head b
