Exiting through her door, Bash did a double take of her and cleared his throat, looking away. Amira ignored him and strolled the short distance to Rhys’ room, her bare feet cold only for a moment along the flagstone until the guards allowed her entry.

“Have a good night!” Bash called after her.

“Definitely not gay,” the guard on the right whispered.

“He won’t be after seeing how she looks.” The other responded.

Honestly, they were overreacting. Amira knew she looked good in her nighties anyway, but Rhys had seen her body plenty of times. He’d also been away from the palace all day. This would be brief so he could rest; she was sure of it.

The doors closed behind Amira, and her gaze slowly moved to the man whose back was to her, removing his bloodstained jacket. She released a breath, her heart galloping as she remembered the kiss from earlier. Rhys’ shoulders tensed slightly, aware of her arrival and possibly the rate at which her heart beat.
