~ Rhys ~Rhys cocked his head to the side as he assessed Eden. She was always a means to an end, but had he really found her attractive? Especially with such a sour expression on her face right now. What issue did she have with Amira?Eden's gaze travelled from the top to the bottom of his frame, her face twisted with loathing, and her lips grew tighter as she appraised him. A low growl rumbled in his throat, both himself and Nisha. How dare she glower at Amira like this. Eden’s eyes snapped to his, widening slightly after hearing his response to her analysis of Amira’s body. With a sharp smile, Rhys asked, “And who might you be? You don’t look like one of the maids. Are you lost?”Eden crossed her arms against her chest. “Who am I? Who are you?!” Stepping closer to Rhys, Nisha made herself known, lunging forward against the forefront of Rhys’ mind for a moment in a warning. His red eye glimmered more, and the green one matched the other. Eden stepped back, startled, satisfying Nisha
~ Rhys ~ After changing into a nightie, Rhys was ordered to lie on the bed and get comfortable. He wasn’t used to being ordered by anyone. But the king let it slide as he did exactly as he was told, propping up pillows behind him as Amira went to and from the water closet. On her return, there was a bowl with a mixture he couldn’t identify the contents of and some thin paper-type strips. “Lie flatter and bend one of your legs,” Amira instructed and rolled her eyes when Rhys obviously didn’t bend his knee as she meant. Her instructions weren’t that obvious! “Rhys, you need to remove your underwear. I have seen my own pussy, you know.” Oh. Rhys removed the underwear, watching Amira as he did, and bent his leg again. Amira placed the contents on the bedside table and moved Rhys’ leg so his foot was on the inside of his thigh. “Stay like that no matter what,” Amira affirmed before placing a wooden spatula on the inside of his thighs, spreading the warm contents along the hair there.
After stepping out of the carriage, Amira didn’t waste any time entering the less fortunate areas of towns. They were there to monitor if her orders were followed. Nobody besides Bash and Baltir, who accompanied them, knew of their departure from the palace walls. At first, Rhys struggled to keep up. He was grimacing and moving oddly in his breeches from the pain of the previous night’s waxing session. Bash and Baltir asked him about his strange behaviour, but there was no way he would tell them about it! Amira snickered from up front; fortunately, she remained quiet even after Bash insisted she told him. Instead, she ran off ahead. Amira navigated through the narrow streets and back alleys swiftly, leading them through shortcuts and taking them to secure spots where they could get great views of everyone without being seen. Rhys watched himself, crouched behind an unused guard tower, one that should have been in use. But it wasn’t. “How many times have you used this?” Rhys questi
Walking side by side, Amira and Rhys were dressed for an evening with the pack members not on duty. Amira was surprisingly nervous. She looked like the king but was not. This was going to be harder than before. Already, she could feel the vibrations of those inside the hall, their voices rowdy and boisterous, with a similar atmosphere to the rogues. Yet, Amira felt there was more pressure to be Rhys now. With the council members and servants, it was easy because they didn’t know their Alpha King well; they only knew of his and Demon’s fierce reputation. That was why Baltir and Bash caught on that something wasn’t right with their friend. Now she was entering a hall full of pack members who were probably tight with their king. From how they looked at her earlier, that made it pretty obvious. “You’ll be fine,” Rhys assured her, sliding his hand into the crook of her arm. Amira looked down at him, shocked he was playing the part of a lady. She wanted to shake him off because if she was
Amira slouched into her chair, her mind reeling as Rhys continued to greet and talk to other pack members. She could tell he was in his element and truly happy to see each and every one of them coming up to him. Unlike Amira, he didn’t have a moment to comprehend the sudden change. What caused them to return to their bodies?Amira really wanted to question the Moon Goddess. Were there rules they had to abide by? Or was it something straightforward she was looking past? Artemis told them there were consequences to their actions. So far, they had been helping each other, and through sharing some of their past with each other, they had grown somewhat closer. They were in this together, and if they couldn’t look out for each other, then it would be a struggle. Having Bash and Baltir aware of their situation also helped.“Have you lost your appetite?” Rhys questioned, leaning closer to Amira once the others left. “Or is it the corset?”Amira stared back at the king, shocked at the concer
Three days passed, and there was no body switch. Amira and Rhys mostly remained by each other’s side, just in case. More rumours spread about how the Alpha King seemed lovestruck by the alluring and beautiful Amira. Servants and nobles gossiped about the pair spending most of their time together. Rhys held Amira’s hand whenever they were strolling through the corridors. Again, Amira was distrustful and suspicious of the act because she noticed how others would see their hand-holding and whispering among themselves. But whenever they were alone, nothing else seemed to matter. It was mostly Rhys working and asking Amira for advice on issues within the kingdom. He listened to her and even followed through with some of her ideas. Even if Rhys was using her, Amira didn’t mind at that point. Power was never Amira’s end goal; she just wanted justice and a fairer world than the one she’d grown up in. Amira didn’t mind staying by Rhys’ side and collaborating together to help improve the king
For the remainder of the day and evening, Amira was restless. She’d never felt so anxious before unless she gambled with a plan, and Zayyan had decided to lead that plan when she could not. This time, though, the she-wolf was worried about Rhys. Amira shouldn’t be; he was the fricken Alpha King and had Demon as his wolf. That didn’t stop her from pacing and even training with Bash. He was good company, teaching her different techniques as she taught him one or two of her own. She obviously wouldn’t tell him every little thing that an assassin like herself could do, though. It was a great distraction and many who did not follow the King and were not deemed higher-ranked warriors started watching from afar. Many knew who Amira was or that she had an intimate connection to the King. Nobody expected the she-wolf to have such skills, and they watched in awe as she flipped over a man twice her size, the wooden blade pressed to his neck. Bash held his hands up and shook his head. “Honestl
Exiting through her door, Bash did a double take of her and cleared his throat, looking away. Amira ignored him and strolled the short distance to Rhys’ room, her bare feet cold only for a moment along the flagstone until the guards allowed her entry. “Have a good night!” Bash called after her.“Definitely not gay,” the guard on the right whispered.“He won’t be after seeing how she looks.” The other responded.Honestly, they were overreacting. Amira knew she looked good in her nighties anyway, but Rhys had seen her body plenty of times. He’d also been away from the palace all day. This would be brief so he could rest; she was sure of it.The doors closed behind Amira, and her gaze slowly moved to the man whose back was to her, removing his bloodstained jacket. She released a breath, her heart galloping as she remembered the kiss from earlier. Rhys’ shoulders tensed slightly, aware of her arrival and possibly the rate at which her heart beat. The moment Rhys turned, Amira’s heart rac
