Queenie

Caleb comes out of the room, his face shadowed with something I can’t quite place. He’s quieter than usual, distant even, and it sends a ripple of unease through me. The easygoing Caleb who laughed with me this morning feels like a memory now. As we head back to the cabin, the silence between us is thick and oppressive. I glance at him a few times, hoping he’ll meet my gaze, but he keeps his eyes fixed on the road ahead.

By the time we pull into the driveway, my nerves are frayed. “Caleb, is something wrong?” I ask tentatively, breaking the silence as I turn off the car.

He hesitates, his jaw tightening. “I’m fine,” he says shortly, getting out and grabbing the bags before I can press further.

The words sting more than they should. He doesn’t even look at me as we step inside. Once everything is put away, he turns to me, his expression carefully neutral. “If you need anything, shout me,” he says. “I just… I need some space.”

And with that, he walks off to his room, leaving me

CalebI wake up to find the bed empty. The storm has calmed, and the cabin is silent except for the occasional creak of the wood. The chill from the previous night is gone, replaced by the steady hum of warmth that tells me the electricity is back on. Sitting up, I rub my face, trying to shake off the lingering haze of sleep.I glance around, half expecting to see Queenie, but she’s nowhere in sight. With a sigh, I get up and head to my room. It’s still early, and the soft gray light of dawn filters through the window. The sketchpad on my desk catches my eye, and I sit down, flipping to a blank page. The image comes to me easily: baby Caleb, small and peaceful, his tiny hands curled into fists as he sleeps. I start sketching, the pencil gliding across the paper as I focus on every little detail. It feels good, almost therapeutic, and I know Queenie will love it. She’s been through so much, and if this can bring her even a moment of joy, it’s worth it.Once I’m finished, I take a momen

QueenieAfter my bath, I find Maz waiting for me in the living room, a mischievous grin already spreading across her face. I sit down beside her, brushing a towel through my damp hair. She leans closer, her voice soft but teasing.“You know, Mom, you should just be honest about your feelings for Caleb.”I freeze, staring at her in shock. “What are you talking about?” I manage to ask, my voice barely above a whisper.Maz rolls her eyes. “Oh, come on. Don’t act like you don’t know. It’s obvious you both like each other. The way you look at him, the way he’s always hovering around you… it’s not exactly subtle.”“Maz, stop,” I say firmly, though my heart races at her words. “Nothing is going on between me and Caleb. Nothing can happen. King might be hurting me, but I can’t… I can’t get to a place where I would hurt him. Do you understand?”Maz tilts her head, her expression softening. “I get it,” she says after a moment. “But, Mom, hiding from how you feel isn’t helping anyone. Least of a

CalebThe drive back to the cabin is quiet, the kind of silence that crackles with unspoken tension. Queenie sits beside me, her eyes focused on baby Caleb in the backseat, but I can tell she knows. Knows that I saw her with that guy. Knows how much it stung. When we pull into the driveway, I don’t wait. I’m out of the car and grabbing the bags before she can say anything. She follows me inside, her steps hesitant, and I know she’s bracing herself for whatever is coming.I set the bags down a little too hard on the kitchen counter, the sound echoing in the small cabin. Queenie places baby Caleb in his crib, then turns to me, her expression cautious.“Are you going to say something, or are you just going to stew in silence?” she asks, her voice firmer than I expect.I let out a sharp breath, running a hand through my hair. “What do you want me to say, Queenie? That it didn’t bother me seeing you give your number to some random guy?”Her eyes widen, and she folds her arms across her che

QueenieMy breath is still uneven as I stare at Caleb, his face so close to mine. The intensity of the moment lingers, thick and heavy, and I can feel the hesitation radiating from him. Slowly, I whisper, “You better not go cold on me now.”He lets out a mock laugh, but it’s strained, almost bitter. “That’s all I know, Queenie,” he says, his voice low. “When there’s a risk King will come back and push me out like he does with everything, I… I’m not sure if I want to take that risk.”I nod, swallowing hard as his words settle between us. “I understand,” I say softly. “But Caleb, King won’t even speak to me. How can he push you out if he’s already locked everyone out?”He looks at me, his jaw tight, the storm in his eyes churning. “I don’t know,” he admits, his voice barely above a whisper.I take a step closer, closing the gap between us, my hand brushing against his arm. “I’m sorry,” I murmur, “for the times I’ve brought King up and not considered how it would make you feel. KingThe room is suffocating. The walls seem closer every time I’m called in here, the overhead lights flickering just enough to irritate me. My dad sits across from me, his arms crossed, his face as stoic as ever. Beside him is my solicitor, shuffling papers and clearing his throat like a man about to drop bad news. I’m tired of bad news.“Why the hell are they delaying sentencing?” I growl, breaking the silence. “It’s been months. They keep dragging it out. What’s the holdup?”The solicitor avoids my gaze, staring at the papers in front of him like they hold the answers to the universe. “There have been… complications,” he finally says.“Complications?” I repeat, leaning forward. “What kind of complications? Speak plainly.”He glances at my dad, who gives him a slight nod. Taking a deep breath, the solicitor looks back at me. “It appears that some of the evidence in your case has been called into question.”I narrow my eyes, my temper rising. “What do you mean, called into question?

CalebI wake to the feel of lips pressing softly against mine. My eyes flutter open, and Queenie’s smiling face greets me. Her hair frames her features like a halo, and I can’t help but smile back. She’s crept into every corner of my life, my thoughts, my heart.I’ve let her in.This past month has been ours—our little cocoon of stolen moments and unspoken promises. Every night I’ve spent in her bed, every day avoiding the club, ignoring the knocks at the door, has felt like rebellion against a world that wouldn’t understand. No one would. Not when they see Queenie as King’s wife, even though he hasn’t spoken to her in seven months. In the eyes of the club, marriage is sacred until both parties agree it’s over. But it’s clear to me… their marriage is already void.Still, I know she loves him. I see it in her quiet moments, when she lingers over an old sketch King drew, or rereads one of his poems. It’s a knife to my gut every time, but I swallow the pain because it’s part of who she i

QueenieI sit in the main room of the club, my hands gripping the edge of my chair as I wait for Caleb to come back out of the room they hold Church in. The minutes feel like hours, the hum of voices beyond the door a low murmur that does nothing to ease the tension coiled in my chest.Rose and Maz are talking to me, and it's nice to have some time to catch up with them. I don't mention me and Caleb dating; it's too crowded, and anyone could hear.My mind races with every possibility as to why Big King wants to talk to Caleb, every worst-case scenario, until the door finally creaks open. But it’s not Caleb who steps out. It’s Doc.He approaches me, his expression carefully neutral. “Caleb’s busy,” he says, his voice calm but distant. “I’ll take you and the baby home.”A pang of disappointment shoots through me, sharp and undeniable. “Oh. Caleb’s POVThe roar of the bikes fills the air as we pull up to the clubhouse. It’s been months since the twins were born, and life hasn’t slowed down for a second. I park my bike and glance over at King, who’s smirking like he’s already a step ahead of me. He probably is. He’s been in a good place lately—focused, lighter even. It’s strange to see after everything, but I can’t complain. He’s my brother, and for the first time in years, it feels like we’re truly in sync. The twins have turned our world upside down in the best way. Queenie’s been handling everything like a pro, balancing the chaos of our family with the chaos of club life. Baby Caleb is toddling around like he owns the place, and the twins, Ruby and Daisy, are always keeping us on our toes. Life is full, and though it’s overwhelming sometimes, it’s everything I didn’t know I wanted.I step off my bike and stretch. King does the same, then glances at me with a grin. “Ready for today?”“Yeah,” I reply, though my voice fe

Sittin' on the clubhouse steps with a cup of coffee in my hand, I let my thoughts drift. Life feels different now. Better, maybe. Calmer. Though “calm” isn’t exactly the word I’d use to describe this club or my family.I’ve been spendin' more time with Kian. It’s something I should’ve done years ago but never did. I was too wrapped up in myself, in the club, in provin' I was the best choice for Prez. Kian was always just the kid in the background. Now, I see him for who he is—a sharp, thoughtful kid with a wicked sense of humor. He’s not a biker, not in the traditional sense, but he’s found his place here. He’s good with numbers, helping with the financial side of things, and he’s got this way of readin' people that reminds me of his mom. He’s been givin' me shit lately, though. “Finally realized I exist, huh?” he joked a few weeks ago when I i

Queenie’s POVSix months. It feels like a lifetime ago and yet just yesterday that everything changed. Lying here waiting for the woman to do the scan, I watch King and Caleb as they stand together. The sight makes my heart swell in a way I never thought possible. They’re so in sync now, their bond stronger than it’s ever been, and it’s a relief to see the tension that once lingered between them completely gone.King laughs at something Caleb says, and it’s such a genuine, carefree sound that I find myself smiling too. I still can’t believe how far he’s come. The darkness that used to grip him so tightly seems to have loosened its hold. It’s not gone entirely—I doubt it ever will be—but it’s no longer the thing that defines him. He’s lighter now, freer, and seeing him like this makes me love him even more. We’ve been staying at the club more than the cabin these past few months, something I never thought I’d be okay with. When King first suggested splitting our time between here and t

My hands tighten on her waist, holding her still as she grinds against me, her body determined to undo whatever resolve I have left. “We’re going to be late for everything, you know that, right?”Her laugh is breathless, filled with mischief. “Worth it,” she says again, her voice low and teasing, and it’s all the encouragement I need.Flipping her onto her back, I pin her beneath me, my

Queenie POVI wake up wedged between Caleb and King, feeling the weight of yesterday pressing on my chest. My mind replays everything in vivid detail, questioning every moment. If I hadn’t fought, would Delcote have still searched me? Or was it all just a punishment for not complying? He left me with my phone, almost as if he wanted me to panic. Then there’s the question of whether kicking his seat and enraging him had been a smart move. Sure, it made him stop, and that gave them the chance to find me—but did I escalate things? My thoughts spiral until I glance over to Caleb Jr.’s crib and notice it’s empty. My heart skips a beat as I sit up in a panic.“Rose and Maz have 'im,” King mutters groggily beside me. His voice is thick with sleep, and he doesn’t even open his eyes. “He woke up around half six, wanted to play, so they took him.”Relief washes over me as I let out a long breath and flop back down beside him.“How are ya feeling?” he asks quietly, turning his head to look at me

I stop dead in my tracks, turning to meet King’s gaze. His expression mirrors mine—panic mixed with raw anger. His fists clench at his sides as his jaw tightens.“What did ya just say?” King growls, his voice low and dangerous.Honey raises an eyebrow, sensing the change in the air. “I saw his car near the campus,” she repeats slowly, looking between us. “What’s going on?”Before either of us can answer, Dad stops behind us, his voice booming as he barks orders. “Rose! They said they’d pick me up—didn’t they?I wait a few minutes, pacing slightly, trying to keep warm. Pulling out my phone, I dial Caleb first. No answer. I try King next, but it goes straight to voicemail. A frustrated sigh escapes me, and I glance up and down the street. No way am I waiting.
