I let out a deep sigh as soon as I ended the call with Ivy. Talking to her always made me feel better, but I couldn’t shake the tension still clinging to me. My stomach growled loudly, reminding me I hadn’t eaten since I arrived. Maybe that's why I was feeling so off.
Snow chimed in, her voice echoing in my mind. "You’ve been so wrapped up in everything—Lucas, Ivy, Ethan—that you forgot to feed us."
I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help the smile. “Yeah, thanks for the reminder.”
I decided to venture out of my chambers and find something to eat. After a long shower, I had slipped into something comfortable—blue jeans, white sneakers, and a white t-shirt. Nothing fancy, but definitely better for wandering around unfamiliar territory.
As I stepped into the hallway, the sheer size of the castle hit me again. The corridors seemed to stretch forever, and the ceilings were ridiculously high. I found myself walking past numerous doors and staircases, each leading somewhere unknown. It was hard not to be in awe. Everything was so grand—ornate tapestries on the walls, polished stone floors that gleamed in the soft light. I felt like I was in a palace straight out of one of those old fairy tales.
“Not bad for a castle,” Snow remarked casually. “I guess Lucas doesn’t do anything halfway.”
I snorted. “Yeah, no kidding. It’s like a maze in here.”
After walking for what felt like ages, I started to think I’d have to turn back. This place was huge, and I was pretty sure I’d passed the same statue twice already. I didn’t want to admit it, but I was lost.
Just as I was about to give up, I heard footsteps approaching. I turned to see a girl heading my way, her bright smile lighting up the hallway. She was petite, with brown skin and curly hair that bounced with each step. Her warm brown eyes sparkled with friendliness, and she wore denim jeans, a white t-shirt, and a denim jacket.
“Hey there!” she greeted me, her voice full of energy. “You look a little lost.”
I couldn’t help but smile back at her. “Yeah, I guess I am. I was trying to find the kitchen.”
She laughed lightly. “Don’t worry, it happens to everyone. This place is like a labyrinth.” She extended her hand. “I’m Cassidy, by the way. I stay here at the castle, part of the pack.”
“Amelia,” I replied, shaking her hand.
Her eyes brightened even more. “Nice to meet you, Amelia! I can show you the way to the kitchen if you want. I’ve got nothing better to do anyway.”
“Thanks,” I said, relieved. “That would be really helpful.”
We started walking together, and as we went, I couldn’t help but marvel at the size of the castle again. Every turn led to another corridor or staircase. There were paintings and tapestries everywhere, depicting battles and royal gatherings, and chandeliers hung from the high ceilings, casting a warm glow. Everything about this place screamed power and wealth. Compared to my old packhouse, this was something else entirely.
"It’s like we stepped into a different world," Snow mused, sounding just as amazed as I felt.
I couldn’t disagree. This castle was a fortress of history and tradition, and I felt so small in it.
“So, what brings you to the castle?” Cassidy asked, her tone light and friendly as she led me through yet another corridor. “Are you visiting someone?”
I hesitated for a second. She didn’t know about Lucas or the whole contract situation, and I wasn’t about to spill everything right now. “I’m just here for personal reasons,” I said, keeping it vague.
She nodded, not prying further, thankfully. “Got it. Well, it’s always interesting when someone new arrives. The castle can be a little... overwhelming at first, but you’ll get used to it.”
“Yeah, I can see that,” I muttered, glancing around at yet another grand hallway. I wasn’t sure I’d ever get used to this.
After a few more twists and turns, we finally reached the kitchen. And wow—it was massive. I paused in the doorway, staring at the space before me. It was like a hall fit for a feast. Long countertops lined the walls, gleaming with spotless utensils, and huge stone ovens were built into the walls. Pots and pans hung from ceiling racks, arranged in perfect rows. In the middle of the kitchen stood a large island filled with fresh bread, fruits, and other ingredients. The smell of freshly baked bread made my stomach growl again.
Snow hummed appreciatively in my head. “Okay, I could definitely get used to this part.”
I smiled. “Me too.”
Cassidy noticed my reaction and laughed. “Impressive, huh? I remember the first time I saw this kitchen. I felt like I was in a royal banquet hall.”
I nodded. “It’s... a lot. Compared to my old home, this is like something out of a storybook.”
Cassidy pulled open the fridge and grabbed a few plates of leftovers, setting them on the counter. “No need to cook, we’ve got plenty of food from dinner.” She motioned for me to sit down at one of the long wooden tables. “And don’t worry, it’s all good stuff.”
I sat down gratefully as Cassidy joined me, and we began to eat. I hadn’t realized just how hungry I was until the first bite. Cassidy, meanwhile, kept the conversation going with ease.
“You know, you could’ve just asked a servant to bring food up to your room,” she said casually. “Most people here do that.”
I shrugged. “I guess I’m still not used to... all of this.”
Cassidy chuckled. “Yeah, I get it. Took me a while too. But trust me, you’ll settle in. Just give it time.”
As we ate, her chatter was comforting. She was the kind of person who could talk about anything and everything without it feeling overwhelming. I found myself relaxing, enjoying her company. But even as we talked, my mind kept drifting back to Lucas... and Ethan.
"Lucas and Ethan, Lucas and Ethan," Snow teased in a sing-song voice. “Maybe you should be thinking less about them and more about how nice it is to eat something.”
“Oh hush, Snow,” I shot back, feeling a blush creep up my cheeks. But she wasn’t wrong. No matter how hard I tried, my thoughts kept bouncing between the two of them. The way Lucas had looked at me earlier... it sent shivers down my spine. And Ethan—there was still so much unresolved there.
“So,” Cassidy asked, bringing me out of my thoughts, “what’s your story? How long are you staying?”
I hesitated again, not wanting to reveal too much. She still didn’t know I was here with Lucas, and for now, I wanted to keep it that way. “I’m not sure yet,” I replied. “I guess I’ll figure it out as I go.”
She smiled, seemingly satisfied with that answer. “Well, however long you’re here, you’ve got a friend in me.”
“Thanks,” I said sincerely, feeling grateful for her warmth. Despite everything else swirling in my head, Cassidy’s friendly presence made me feel a little more grounded.
Amelia POVCassidy and I finished our late dinner and lingered a little longer in the kitchen, her chatter filling the warm space. She was kind, and despite the weight of everything happening around me, it was easy to relax in her company. After a while, she offered to show me more of the castle, which I gladly accepted. I needed to get familiar with this place, or I’d probably end up lost again. As we strolled through the castle halls, Cassidy pointed out rooms, making casual conversation. The enormity of the place still stunned me. It was like nothing I’d ever seen before. Back home, everything was smaller, simpler. This castle was like a maze—elegant and grand, every floor more impressive than the last. We made our way outside into the garden, and the view took my breath away. The garden stretched on forever, with manicured hedges, fountains, and bursts of colorful flowers. The air smelled sweet, and I found myself lost in it for a moment. But then… I saw her. Queen Larissa. She wa
Amelia POV I stood frozen, my back pressed against the bedroom door, my heart still racing. What just happened? I couldn’t help but replay his words and that stupid, smug grin of his in my head. It was hard enough dealing with Queen Larissa’s venomous words earlier, and now Lucas had to come in, teasing me like that, throwing my whole sense of balance off."You’re all flustered again," Snow’s voice echoed through my mind, her tone almost amused. "You really need to get it together.""I am together," I muttered, pacing back and forth in the room. The words came out harsher than I intended, but Snow only huffed, unconvinced. And honestly, I wasn’t together at all. My emotions were scattered, my thoughts spiraling out of control. Tomorrow, I would be getting married. Actually married. And it wasn’t for love.It wasn’t real. This was a contract, a deal. A way to protect Lucas and his kingdom. A way to make Ethan regret his decision, I reminded myself of that. Over and over."It’s just a
I wake up with a jolt, my heart pounding in my chest. Today is the day, my eighteenth birthday. But it’s not just any birthday. Today, I got my wolf and I can finally sense my mate. The moment my eyes flutter open I feel it, this deep pull undeniable pull. My heart skips a beat as I realize who it’s leading me to.“It’s him” a voice whispers in my mind, her voice trembling with excitement. Ethan is our mate, Amelia!I froze. “Are you my wolf?”“Yes silly, who else do you think can sense our mate?” My wolf giggle “My name is Snow, nice to meet you.”A surge of joy rushes through me, filling every part of my being. I finally got my wolf and she seems spunky too. Also best of all, Ethan is my mate. For two years, I’ve been with Ethan, loving him, dreaming of this moment and now it’s real. I can hardly believe it, because not everyone gets to be mated to their partner of whom they chose. I am glad the moon goddess, granted my wish to be Ethan mate and what better time for it to happen, ju
I don’t know how I make it out the ball room. Everything’s a blur- faces, voices, the oppressive weigh of pity from those who witnessed my humiliation. The further I get form Ethan, the more the pain seeps in, clawing at my insides like a wild animal trapped in a cage.“Amelia, you have to breathe” Snow’s voice urges me, but even she sounds weaker than before. The severance of the bond has left both of us raw and bleeding.“I can’t,” I whisper back. My chest is tight, and it feels like someone has ripped my heart out and left a gaping wound in its place. “It hurts too much know Snow. He rejected us, despite being mate.”“I know, but you’re stronger than this. We’re stronger,” Snow insists, but even as she says it, I can feel her sadness, her anger. She’s trying to hold us together, but the bond… It’s shattered us in ways I never imagined possible.I find myself outside, the cool air a stark contrast to the suffocating atmosphere inside. After leaving the woods, I barely manage to pull myself together long enough to reach home. The moment I step inside, the walls of my room close in on me. I live alone, no parents, no siblings, nothing. Just amplifying the emptiness left by Ethan’s rejections. My parents died when I was just a toddler. I have to memory or recollection of them and I was an only child, I stayed in the pack house, until I was 16. With the savings my parents left for me, I used that to purchase a small house in the pack. I collapse onto my bed, the silence heavy and suffocating. My phone buzzes, snapping me out of my thoughts. I glance at my phone, it’s a call from my best friend Ivy. For a moment, I consider letting it go to voicemail, but something in me- a desperate need for distraction- makes me answer.“That fuck bastard Ethan! He doesn’t deserve you Amelia.” Ivy voice exclaim over the phone. I wince at her words. The news had reach my best friend too. I take it everyone knew. “Yea, thanks,” I mutte
The sunlight streaming through the curtains wakes me up with a start and head pounding and my body tangled in sheets that aren’t mine. For a split second, I’m disoriented, struggling to remember where I am and how I got here. But then, it all comes flooding back- the club, it the drinks, Ethan with that girl… and Lucas. I freeze my heart racing as I take in the room around me. I’m in a hotel.I felt a stir beside me and I look over. There lay Lucas, his perfectly define face. Deeply a sleep. The memory of our night together hits me like a tidal wave, and I feel my face flush with embarrassment.Shit!... Fuck! What have I done?I bite my lip, trying to keep my breathing steady as I carefully slip out from under the covers. I don’t dare to look back at Lucas, afraid that he might wake up and catch me sneaking out like some thief. I can’t face the questions, the looks, the inevitable awkwardness that will come when he wakes up. I need to get out of here. I spot my clothes in a heap on t
Amelia P.O.VI sit on the edge of my bed, staring at Lucas's text. My thumb hovers over the screen, heart pounding in my chest. Can we meet and talk? The words seem so innocent, but I know there’s more behind them. There has to be, especially after that night.I take a deep breath and type out a quick reply: Sure, where? His response is almost immediate—meet me at the oak tree in the forest. My breath catches as memories of that place flood my mind. The last time I was there… it was right after Ethan rejected me. I ran to that tree, seeking solace, and it was Lucas who found me, offering comfort when I thought I didn’t have any left. I don’t know why he chose that place, but something about it feels significant. As I make my way to the oak tree, the cool forest air bites at my skin, sending shivers down my spine. My mind races with a thousand different thoughts, but one stands out above the rest—what does he want to say? My steps slow as I approach the tree, and I see him standing ther
Amelia P.O.VThe second Lucas's announcement leaves his lips, the weight of the room shifts. I can feel it. Eyes are on me, on him—on us. I stand there, my pulse quickening. They all must have have so many question giving the fact, I have been with Ethan for a while, only for him to reject me and now I appear as Lucas fiancé. Lucas leaves my side to mingle with some officials. The murmurs grow louder, whispers buzzing through the crowd like bees around a hive. I overhear some unmated females calling my slut under their breaths. I ignore them as I went to get myself a glass of champagne. I can practically feel the shock rolling off Ethan from across the room as I take a glass, but I don’t let my gaze wander toward him. I refuse to give him the satisfaction.Ivy is at my side almost immediately, her eyes wide with barely-contained glee. “Did you see Ethan’s face?” she whispers, trying—and failing—to stifle a laugh. “I thought he was going to explode.”I can’t help but smile at her enth
