Brielle POV

The drive to the bar was quicker than I anticipated, filled only with the low hum of the car engine and the thoughts I couldn’t silence. Why had Albert gotten himself drunk tonight? Was it because of our argument earlier? Or was there something else he wasn’t telling me?

I wasn’t sure why I even agreed to go. After everything, after the hurtful words exchanged and the pain he caused, I still found myself heading straight for him when he needed me. Maybe I was a fool, or maybe my heart wasn’t as ready to walk away as I wanted it to be.

When I arrived at Blue Bar, I spotted Albert immediately. He was slumped over a booth in the corner, his head resting against the backrest, his tie loosened and his shirt wrinkled. His hair was a disheveled mess, something I’d never seen before.

The bartender gestured toward him as I walked in. “Over there,” he said. “He’s been asking for you all night.”

I ignored the flutter of emotion that came with hearing that and approached Albert. His

Brielle POV I grabbed a towel and quickly cleaned up the broken glass and blood, not wanting to leave any evidence of the confrontation. As I finished, I leaned against the counter, my mind racing. Whatever Diana was planning, I had to stay ahead of her.The soft rays of morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, spilling into the bedroom. Albert stirred awake, his head pounding slightly from the remnants of the previous night's drinking. Blinking a few times, he let his vision adjust before turning his head to the side, expecting to see an empty room.Instead, his gaze landed on Brielle. She was curled up on the couch, still asleep. Her arms were tucked under her head, and the peaceful expression on her face softened the lines of worry that had seemed permanent lately.A faint smile crept onto Albert's face as he watched her, his chest tightening with an emotion he couldn’t quite name. He couldn’t remember much of what happened after the bar, but seeing her there, knowing she h

Brielle POV My cheeks flushed deeper as the silence stretched between us. I cleared my throat, breaking the trance Albert seemed to be under. “You… you can let go of me now,” I said softly, though my voice wavered slightly.Albert blinked as if snapping out of a dream. His arms loosened around my waist, but he didn’t step back immediately. Instead, he carefully helped me stand upright, his hands lingering just a moment longer than necessary to ensure I was steady on my feet.I quickly adjusted my towel, clutching it tightly around myself. The tension between us was palpable, and I could feel his gaze burning into me. I avoided his eyes, focusing instead on smoothing my damp hair.“Thanks,” I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper.Albert didn’t respond immediately. Instead, his hand reached out, gently brushing against mine. The contact sent a jolt through me, and I looked up at him, startled. His eyes were soft yet intense, filled with something I couldn’t quite decipher.“Please

Brielle POV As we pulled up to the office building, a familiar sense of nervous energy washed over me. It had been months since I’d last set foot here, and now, stepping back into the space where Albert and I had once built something together felt surreal.Albert glanced at me as the driver opened my door. “Ready?” he asked, his voice soft but tinged with curiosity.I forced a small smile. “As ready as I’ll ever be.”Walking into the towering office building alongside Albert felt different this time. His hand hovered near the small of my back, guiding me inside, and I caught the curious glances from employees. Some looked genuinely pleased to see me, while others whispered to one another, no doubt gossiping about my return.“Good morning, Mr. Carter,” one of the receptionists greeted Albert with a bright smile before her eyes landed on me. Her expression lit up. “Mrs. Carter! It’s so wonderful to see you again.”I nodded politely. “Thank you. It’s good to be back.”As we made our way

Brielle POV The moment Diana strutted into the office, my stomach sank. Her high heels clicked against the marble floor, announcing her arrival with an air of arrogance. Her smirk widened as her eyes landed on me, clearly pleased to see me sitting at my desk. The office buzzed with murmurs, and I could feel the weight of everyone's stares.I refused to let her presence rattle me, though. Squaring my shoulders, I kept my gaze on the computer screen in front of me, pretending to type furiously while my mind raced. What was she doing here? And then, as if to answer my unspoken question, Rebecca appeared in the doorway with Albert beside her.“Albert,” Rebecca said with a sickeningly sweet tone, “I have some exciting news to share.”Albert looked at her skeptically. “What now, Mom?”Rebecca beamed, turning her gaze to Diana, who was practically glowing with satisfaction. “I’ve hired a new secretary for you. From today, Diana will be your secretary.”My fingers froze mid-typing, and I fel

Brielle POV Albert sat beside me, his presence comforting but silent. He hadn’t said much since the assistant had ushered us into the room, but I could feel his tension simmering beneath the surface. I was on my own in this.“Thank you all for coming,” Rebecca began, her voice smooth as silk yet laced with authority. “I’ve called this meeting to discuss some important changes within the company.”The room fell silent, everyone waiting for her to continue. I gripped the armrest of my chair, bracing myself.“As you all know, Brielle has returned to the company,” Rebecca said, her gaze landing on me. Her tone was polite, but the venom beneath it was unmistakable. “And while we are all delighted to have her back…” She paused for dramatic effect, her smile never wavering. “…there are certain concerns that need to be addressed.”“Concerns?” Albert’s voice cut through the air, firm and unyielding. He leaned forward slightly, his eyes narrowing at his mother.Rebecca didn’t falter, though I

Brielle POV As Albert and I stepped out of the restaurant, leaving Diana behind, I felt a sense of relief. But deep down, I knew Diana wasn’t someone who would let things go so easily. And I was right. We had barely walked a few steps toward the car when a loud gasp and the sound of a body hitting the floor made us turn around.“Ahh—Albert!” Diana’s voice rang through the restaurant like a siren.I turned to see her sprawled on the floor, clutching her stomach, her face contorted in pain. She writhed dramatically, her hands pressing against her abdomen as though she were in unbearable agony.People inside the restaurant gasped, some even standing to get a better look. A waiter rushed to her side, asking if she needed help, but she ignored him, her tear-filled eyes locking onto Albert.“Albert, please… the baby… something’s wrong,” she whimpered. My heart dropped. Not because I believed her, but because I knew exactly what she was trying to do. This was classic Diana—always scheming,

Brielle POV Albert rushed over to Diana, concern etched across his face as he bent down to help her up. She clung to him like a lifeline, pressing her body against his as if she could barely stand on her own.I clenched my fists, feeling a wave of frustration wash over me. I knew exactly what she was doing, using every opportunity to make me feel like an outsider, to make it seem like she belonged by Albert’s side more than I did.“Albert, I’m sorry,” she whispered weakly, her voice trembling as she blinked up at him with fake, teary eyes. “I didn’t mean to take up so much of your time. I know how busy you are with work, and yet… you still choose to be here with me. Thank you so much.”I almost scoffed at how dramatic she sounded. She was acting like a helpless damsel in distress, knowing Albert had a protective instinct when it came to people in need.Albert sighed, his grip firm on her arms to steady her. “It’s fine, Diana. Just take care of yourself.”His tone was distant, but Dia

Brielle POVJust as I suspected, Diana wasn’t as sick as she pretended to be.Albert returned with the doctor, his expression filled with concern. “Doctor, please check on her again. She suddenly collapsed earlier, and I want to be sure she’s fine.”Diana, who had been clutching her stomach dramatically just moments ago, immediately straightened up the moment the doctor approached. Her eyes darted nervously toward the hallway, where the man had just disappeared. She couldn't risk staying here any longer, she needed to get out before anything went wrong.“Actually,” she said suddenly, forcing a weak but determined smile, “I think I’m okay now. It must have just been stress.” She sighed, pressing a hand against her forehead as if she had just made a miraculous recovery. “No need for me to stay here any longer.”The doctor looked at her skeptical but nodded. “If you're feeling better, then there’s no reason to keep you admitted. However, I would advise you to take it easy and get some re

Brielle POV I hated being forced to feel like a guest in my own home, a stranger in my own marriage.I waited in the kitchen for the cookies to cook, my hand around a wad of papers from the hospital that I had yet to sort through. My mind wasn't even on the cookies…..I was still seething from my fight with Diana that morning. That she'd admitted to having given me drugs and was so cavalier about it was getting my blood boiling. The oven beeper brought me back to life. I huffed, picking up the papers and setting them down, before tying my mitts up and taking out the tray. A sweet, warm smell of fresh-baked cookies permeated the kitchen air, in contrast to this choking house tension.Stacking the cookies neatly onto a plate, I carefully balanced them and stepped out of the kitchen to continue on my way towards Albert's mother, who was in the living room drinking tea like some sort of monarch upon her throne. Diana was seated beside her, with a smug look spreading onto her face. I appr

Brielle POV I was not even out of the stairs when Diana's voice called after me."Brielle!"I stopped in my tracks, exhaling slowly before I turned around. She stood next to Rebecca, a veil of innocence on her face, her hands cradling her belly protectively as though she was the saint in this house."Would you be a dear and make some coffee for Mother?" she said sweetly.I missed the scornful tone in her voice. She knew just what she was doing, reminding me of my place in this household. I forced a thin smile. "Of course." I said not another word, just went on into the kitchen, my brain seething as I prepared the coffee. I could still hear them talking in the other room, Diana's voice sweetened with unspoken barbs. What was Rebecca doing here out of the blue? She never visited unless she needed something. And Diana… Diana was up to something, I could be sure.Pouring the now prepared coffee into a china cup, I cautiously carried it back. The moment I stepped into the living room, I

Brielle POV The next day, I woke up with a pounding headache. My body felt weak, my limbs heavy like they had lost all energy. Something was not right. This was not stress or fatigue.I had felt this too many times in the last few weeks, always dizzy, always tired, and the fact that I had passed out and felt unconscious for sometime too. It's strange and I feel something is definitely wrong. I needed answers. In no time, I got dressed and drove straight to the hospital. The moment I walked into the clinic, I demanded a full test. I needed to know what was happening to me.Hours went by before the results were ready, and my hands trembled as I read them.Drugs.I had been drugged. My gut was in knots as my head was racing with possibilities. Who would do this? Who was even permitted into my food and drink stores? And then I figured it out.Diana.The only one living in this house with all the motivation to have me incapacitated, confused, and impaired.A hot rage seared my chest as I

Brielle POV I set my cup down on the coffee table with just a little more force than necessary. "That’s interesting, Diana," I said sweetly. "Because you didn’t seem to need Albert’s comfort last night when Nicholas was around."Her fingers twitched against Albert’s shirt, and I saw the flicker of recognition in her eyes. She knew exactly what I meant. She understands perfectly, I could see it in her face. Albert frowned, his gaze moving between us, sensing the tension. "Brielle, she’s just scared. It’s not a big deal."I gave him a pointed look. "Albert, this is our bedroom. You can’t possibly think it’s appropriate for Diana to cling to you like this when she has her own room….and her own guest to keep her company."Diana’s lips parted, her eyes widening as if I had just accused her of something unspeakable. "Brielle, how could you say that? Nicholas is just my cousin! I would never….""Then you shouldn’t have a problem staying with him," I cut in smoothly. "I’m sure he’d be happy

Brielle POV "What?!" I shot forward, fury burning through my veins. "You’re lying! I never said that!"Diana flinched, her lower lip trembling as she turned to Albert with big, glossy eyes. "I….I swear, Albert, she did. She said I would be thrown out of this house soon, and she….she tried to hurt me.""Enough!" Albert’s voice boomed through the room, making both of us fall silent. He pinched the bridge of his nose, exhaling harshly. "I’m tired of this constant fighting between you two.""But Albert…." I started, my chest tightening."Enough, Brielle!" His sharp tone cut through me like a knife.I swallowed hard, my nails digging into my palms as anger and frustration swirled inside me.Diana sniffled again, playing the victim perfectly as Albert continued tending to her wound.I clenched my teeth. The moment Albert left the room, Diana's entire demeanor shifted. The fragile, weeping woman vanished in an instant, replaced by a smug smirk as she wiped the last fake tear from her cheek.

Brielle POV "Don’t you ever say that to anyone," she hissed, her voice low and threatening. "Or else you’ll regret it, Brielle. I’m warning you, don’t mess with me."I raised an eyebrow, unfazed. She was trying to intimidate me, but I had already seen her at her weakest, desperate and at the mercy of that man in her room. She had no power over me."Or else what?" I shot back, yanking my hand free from her grasp. "What can you do, Diana? You're nothing but a shameless bitch." I leaned in closer, lowering my voice so only she could hear. "Your days are numbered in this house. It won’t be long before Albert throws you out with your bastard pregnancy."Diana's lips curled into a sneer, but I caught the way her jaw clenched, she was barely holding herself together."We shall see who’s going to be thrown out of this house," she spat, her voice dripping with venom. She stepped even closer, her breath hot with rage. "Everything in this house belongs to me, even Albert."I froze for a split s

Brielle POV His hands roamed her body, greedy and shameless, pulling down the thin straps of her nightgown until it slipped from her shoulders. My stomach twisted as he palmed her breasts, rolling her nipples between his fingers before taking one into his mouth.“You got exactly what I always wanted,” he groaned against her skin, his hand sliding down her stomach, disappearing between her thighs.Diana gasped, arching into him, her fingers tangling in his hair. She was lost in him, in the moment, completely unaware that I was standing right there, watching everything.Nicholas’s fingers moved faster, teasing her, making her whimper. “Mmm, you like that, don’t you?” he whispered, his voice thick with lust.He pulled her panties to the side, his free hand unbuckling his belt, taking down his trousers just enough. Diana straddled him, her head tilting back, lips parting as she rocked against him. Nicholas said, oh, my dealing sweet Diana. come on, he's hands were on her waist pushing i

His eyes flickered to Albert, then to me. And then, he smiled. A slow, knowing smile.“I’m here to see Diana,” he said smoothly, his voice dripping with familiarity. Before Albert or I could react, Diana quickly rushed closer to the door, her face lighting up with fake excitement. “Oh, Nicholas! My dear cousin, how are you?” she exclaimed, linking her arm around his like they had been close for years. “I’m so sorry I didn’t make it to pick you up at the airport.”I froze.Cousin?Diana was a liar, but this was a new level of deception.Albert, however, didn’t seem to question it. He nodded politely, his expression neutral. “Nicholas,” he repeated, as if processing the name.Diana turned to us, still holding onto Nicholas’s arm. “Albert, Briel
