RILEY

"Change of plans." Daemon said, a frown etched to his face. "You will pay a visit to your pack."

"What?" I questioned, this must be some kind of a trick.

"You heard me right. Maybe I underestimated Thane's feelings for you; I'd rather not take the risk, so it's time to end this off the right way."

"End what?"

"You will say your last goodbyes to Thane, just so he will stop searching. He had involved Bruce, your father, in this, and now I have even more enemies, but it wouldn't be so if you told him how much you love me and how you plan to live the rest of your life with me."

"You are going to force me into doing this too?" I asked.

"Yes, I will."

"I will do as you said, but leave the people I care about and every other person out of this."

"Of course," he promised. "I'll be back in an hour; I'll leave you to prepare a very convincing speech," he said before leaving me alone. I stared at Daisy's notebook. Could I be able to pass a secret message to Thane without Daemon finding ou

This is like the third time in this same event has happened. Either Thane or Riley lie about wanting to be with another... it gets repetitive and predictable.

THANEMaybe it had been because this had happened once before, or maybe because despite her words, I still saw through her.She didn't mean any of it; she must have been forced. I wondered what Daemon could have over her.Riley would never move on without Ethan.I slipped my hands into my pocket, and I noticed a piece of paper. I was sure it hadn't been there a while ago. I pulled it out. Riley must have slipped it into my pocket, maybe at the time she hugged me. I couldn't help but smirk; that was a smart move. On the paper were written three words that seemed to be scrambled in a haste. 'Use the pendant.' ..."Thank you for coming." Bruce said, letting me in.The building was a perfect hideout; the outside made it seem like this was an abandoned space, but inside was completely… different."Did you bring the pendant along?" he asked, and I nodded, tossing the emerald pendant to him; he caught it.I spotted a mid aged woman, she stood by his side with a smile that looked too fake

RILEY "Was the hug really necessary?" Daemon asked. "You said I should make it convincing, and I did." "All those things you said back there... did you mean them?" he asked. "You mean when I said you make me happy? No, not really." "You know, you could have lied and said, ‘Yes’." "Did I hurt your feelings? Good, because that serves you right." Daemon's gaze drifted past me to the notebook on the table. "Did you touch the book?" he asked me, and I rolled my eyes at him. "Of course not." I lied. But he walked past me and picked the book up. He scrolled through the pages and paused. "This book is missing a page, Riley." "What do you mean?" "Where is it?" "I'm not in the mood for this..." My words were cut off when Daemon slammed me hard against the wall; my head collided against the wall, and for a moment I felt dizzy. "You little bitch, I did everything for you, and yet, this is how you repay me?" "I don't understand what you are talking about!" I cried out. "Don't play

ISABELLA'S POVI was worried about Riley; since she was gone, Thane refused to allow himself even a few minutes of sleep. He blamed himself for everything—but it wasn’t his fault; it was mine.I paced round the room, waiting for any update about Riley's whereabouts; just then, Thane walked in."Thane! Is she alright?" I asked him."She is alive," he responded. "What happened to her? Where is she?""I think we need to talk," Thane says."I know, I'm sorry about earlier; I had no clue she was in danger; I shouldn't have tried to stop you from going to her.""It's not about that, Bella," he said, and I couldn’t help but notice how he wouldn’t even look at me."Then what do you want us to talk about?""I want you out of this pack."For a moment I doubted if I heard the right words, but there it was, what he wanted to talk about."What... why? I am sorry if I did anything wrong. I just... I don't have anywhere to go.""You can't stay here anymore.""No, you need me; I can help you—I know

RILEY POV"Hello, Riley." The woman said, "Don't mind my newly acquired body. Thane did get your message and managed to free me from Hades."Daemon turned to me; I had never seen such hate in his eyes before and this time it was directed at me."Where is Thane?" I asked Jade."He should be here in a few minutes, assuming Bruce got the shifting spell right.""How did you find me?" Daemon asked her."It was easy; we are linked in a way."In a flash, Daemon appeared right before me, gripping me tightly as the black mist swirled around us. He was escaping, and he was taking me with him, I had no right to fight him.But something was wrong; I could see it on Daemon's face. He finally let go of me.It didn't work. We were both still in his room.Daemon let out a cry of pain as he fell to the ground, clutching his ear; blood dripped down his nose. Jade seemed to be doing something to him; her eyes glowed, and her hands were outstretched. She didn't stop till the footsteps drew both our atte

"I once told you the difference between a sorcerer and a warlock: a sorcerer is born into magic while warlocks have to earn theirs. Our magic comes from a… dark source. All my life, I hungered for power. I believed I wasn't born to live an ordinary life and I wouldn't settle for less. I studied every supernatural creature, and that's how I knew about Vox.""Who is Vox?" I asked Bruce."He is the Demon Overlord, a powerful entity, and he saw me as useful. I went on missions for him—while I wasn’t skilled in the physical aspect, my knowledge and resourcefulness made up for it. I wanted to become his favorite, but with Vox, things don't work that way. You are only important to him when you are of use.I was able to complete all my tasks; I did really bad things, none of which I am proud of, and finally I was rewarded; he made me a warlock. Just as I had wanted.Still, I wanted more, and my greed got in the way.A warlock's magic never does die. If a warlock kills another, he gets a port

DEMONJade had brought me back to her little hermitage. I've been here before; the small rustic building in the middle of the wood was the closest she had to a home. I was bound to a chair—not that I could escape if I tried, and she knew that.“Daemon. She gave you the name, didn't she?” Jade questioned; I didn't give her a response; I knew exactly what she was getting at. “What was really going through your mind when you had me locked up? Did you think she would leave everything behind and fall in love with you, and you both would have a family?”“Stop talking about her.”“You still care? Even after everything.” She said and chuckled.“No, I don't. It took me time to understand that they are all the same, but now I do, and if I want to meet her again, it will be to end her.”“So you are finally back to your senses; glad to hear that.”“What do you want with me?”“The very same thing I've always wanted. I need you to free Vox.”I had suspected this, but it never made sense why a sorc

Jade placed the pot filled with burning coal beside the candle. She knelt in the middle of the circle. “Expergiscere, dominus inferorum,” she chanted over and again. Those were Latin words. Suddenly, the white, powdery substance ignited in a burst of flame, surrounding her with green fire. “It's working,” she gasped. She rose to her feet, chanting the Latin words louder; a gust of wind blew through the room, and I watched curiously, but then everything stopped. The lights went off and the wind ceased. There was complete silence. “I... I did everything right; why wouldn't it work!” She screamed, kicking over the pot of coal. I was used to this outburst; she was always like this anytime it didn't work, but I had to admit, this seemed to have gone to a different level unlike her other trials. “What am I doing wrong? Why wouldn't this stupid spell work?” She pushed over the bottle of potions, and it shattered, spilling on the floor. She ran her hands through her hair; it s

I wondered why Bruce had kept the truth to himself all these years. Now it did make sense why he left us and just maybe, he deserved my forgiveness. My mother never did know anything about the man she fell in love with; she didn't know he was a warlock several years older than he looked. She knew nothing, and he shouldn't have left her in the dark, but still I could understand why he did that; maybe he believed he was protecting her.The members of the Nightshade pack paid their respect to Daisy. Many wept over her death; of course, they didn't know the truth about her betrayal. Thane, on the other hand, didn't like this idea; he didn't think she deserved to be buried with honor after what she did."You don't have to watch all these." Thane said to me, he believed me being here at Daisy's burial was just an act, a simple cover up."You know, I don't blame her for anything she did; she was not in her right senses. Daemon messed with her, just as he always does, and so it's him I blam

DAEMON’S POV“I think I know where they’ve taken her,” Julia said.“Then we should get going immediately,” I replied, but she shook her head.“We won’t make it to her in time.”“Well, standing here doing nothing isn’t helping—so fucking lead the way.” I was growing restless, and the delay was only making it worse. She reached into her bag and I caught Alexander stiffen, his eyes locked on her every move. I hadn’t even realized she’d been carrying anything. But all she pulled out was a rope. She handed it to me.“What the fuck is this? A rope?”“Not just any rope. It’s enchanted—meant for supernatural beings, especially those with abilities and gifts. If we’re too late and the goddess has already taken over Aliyah’s body, we’ll need this to bind her. It’s the only way to stop her... at least temporarily.”I took the rope. It looked ordinary, but the moment I touched it, I felt the pulse of its magic...“Daemon and I will go find her,” Alexander said. But of course, I could already se

ALIYA’S POVI woke up with a pounding headache. The events from earlier came flooding back, sending a wave of panic through me. A blindfold covered my eyes, plunging me into darkness, and my wrists and ankles were bound in chains, secured to the wall behind me.My slight movement must have captured my captor’s notice. I heard footsteps approaching, and instinctively, I shrank back. Just then, the blindfold was yanked off, and it took a moment for my eyes to adjust to the light. We were in what seemed like an ancestral hall, the walls adorned with strange markings, and the windows similar to those in a cathedral. Candles were scattered across the floor, and in the center was a table draped with white cloth. The man who had removed my blindfold was dressed in a black robe. I recognized him almost immediately—he was one of the High Regents, and his name was Varek. The door swung open, and four more regents entered, each one dressed like Varek. They shut it behind them, and one took posi

DAEMON POVHer blood tasted every ounce human. I pulled back, suppressing the urge to gag. It’s been a long time since I tasted something so painfully plain—I’d almost prefer the sting of venom-tainted blood to this.“What’s wrong?” Kaida’s worried voice cut through the haze.“Nothing. She’s saying the truth—at least one truth. She’s no more than a human now.”“Now that you know that,” she said, placing her palm on her neck as if to shield it from me. The empresses had this issue with being fed from—they felt tainted, violated. The fact that she offered told me she was desperate. “Can you now listen to what I have to say?” she asked.I wanted to consider the possibility that she was telling the truth, but reconciling her past actions with her words now was difficult.“Speak.” Alexander urged.“The High Regents have taken over from the empresses. They are far more ruthless, and I fear they won’t be as hesitant as I am if they lay their hands on her.”“They won’t find her.” I said.“You

“Let me go!” the woman screamed. “I demand to speak to the Alpha.”The voice sounded familiar.“Julia?”Daemon immediately tensed. How had she been caught trying to sneak into the pack? That was the first question on my mind. The Empresses had the gift of shifting, among other abilities—it shouldn’t have been hard for her to get in. Cynthia had managed it multiple times. She looked different too—aged, not in the usual way stress might wear someone down, but like thirty years had passed in the space of a few days.“I need to speak to you. It’s important,” Julia said, eyes wide. She kept glancing over her shoulder, like she expected someone—or something—to appear out of nowhere and attack her.“I’m not letting you in. I’m not granting you access to the pack house,” Alexander replied.“You don’t understand. Do you think I’d be here if this wasn’t a matter of life and death?”Alexander looked at me. I gave him a nod. We could let her in.The soldiers escorted Julia into the dungeons—to th

KADIA’S POVThe meeting was tense. Voices rose higher and higher; it was unusual for a gathering of pack leaders to be this chaotic. Phil sat by my side, and Austin sat by Alexander. I would’ve thought it would be wiser for Daemon to be present, but if he wasn’t here, it only meant Alexander didn’t trust him enough to attend.“When everyone is speaking, no one’s listening,” Alexander said, and all arguments ceased, the room falling into silence. “There is indeed an army of the undead; I’ve seen it with my very own eyes, and so has my Luna. Creatures that even bullets made of the finest silver cannot kill.”“How do you expect us to believe in the sudden appearance of these creatures? I’ve never seen any, and with all due respect, this sounds more like something out of a fantasy novel,” Alpha Cain said.“You are a man of your word, and if you say these creatures exist, then they most likely do. But if none of us have laid eyes on them, perhaps they aren’t truly our concern,” Gamma Timo

ALIYAH’S POVThe light blue gown I wore clung to my skin, completely soaked. I was cold. I should change into something dry, something comfortable—but I couldn’t bring myself to move. My mind reeled with everything Daemon had said.Would he really have given up his title for me?Who was I kidding? He only said that to manipulate me. The title meant everything to him—at least, that’s what the more cynical voice in my head argued. But what if he hadn’t been lying? What if he really had tried to get into the castle, but the spell kept him out? What if everything he said was actually true? That was always my problem. With him, I could never tell the lie from the truth.A part of me wondered if he was still standing out there in the rain or if he had finally given up. Still in my soaking wet clothes, I stepped into the room where Ash had been kept, surprised by how quickly he was recovering. His once pale skin had started to regain its color, and his breathing was no longer labored. He l

DAEMON“You really want to know who Ash is? He’s my soulmate,” she said.A memory flashed back into my mind. Right before I killed the human girl Tasha, she had mentioned a man. I hadn’t thought much of it, not until now.“How long?” I asked. “How long have you known him?”A moment of silence passed.“My whole life.”My chest tightened with an unfamiliar emotion I hadn’t felt in a long time—betrayal. When I tasted his blood, I felt it; it reminded me of hers. It was strange, but I couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that there was something more between the two of them, and now I understood why.I deserved this. I deserved to lose her. In fact, I should be thankful to Ash for saving her life when I couldn’t. But I wasn’t a good man, and I wanted her for myself. I wanted her so badly that the thought of letting her go wasn’t even an option. She believed I had abandoned her. If only she knew that she was all I could think about. I couldn’t believe I’d never taken a moment to consider what might happen to Daemon if the venom had side effects—even on demons.“I’ll do anything for you, you know that.”“This is risky… and Sebastian isn’t even sure you won’t get hurt.”“Sebastian.” Daemon repeated the name. It struck me that he might know the man. “What do I have to do?” he asked.“I have a friend who was bitten by a flesh-eater. The venom from the bite is slowly killing him. He’s running out of time—he needs help.”“Do I know this person?”This had been one of my worries, that Daemon won’t help when he discovers who Ash was.“Yes,” I answered. Ash and Daemon did meet—Daemon had spared his life, but that was when Ash had been in his wolf form. “No,” I corrected myself. They hadn’t met in person. “He’s in this because of me. He was trying to protect me. Please, you have to help him.”Daemon only nodded before wrapping his arms around me, and in the next moment, we were right in front of Sebastian’s house.“How di

“Who are you, and state your business,” the soldiers demanded.Sebastian had brought me to the Nightshade Pack, but he’d refused to go any farther. I suspected it had something to do with the Alpha King.“I need to see the Alpha.”“What is your name?”I couldn’t tell them my real name. If I did, word of where I was could spread, and the Empresses would come after me. I had to think of something—fast.“I’m a friend of the Alpha.”“You don’t look very familiar,” said the soldier with chestnut-brown hair, eyeing me from head to toe.“I advise you to go inform the Alpha that a visitor is here to see him,” I said, sounding more confident than I felt. “I don’t think he would take it lightly if I’m kept waiting.”The soldier nodded to the dark-skinned man beside him, and the man turned to go find the Alpha.I didn’t think the Alpha knew what I looked like; the only time I’d visited this pack, I’d been inside a carriage, and I doubted the curtain had revealed much. But the Luna—she must know
