Olivia

Two days passed since the encounter at the bar and I tried to forget about the strange man and his proposal.

But it was hard, who was he and how did he find and I didn't buy the crap about his friend.

Soon I put him out of my mind. It was a Saturday and Eliza and I killed the time by going to our local market, looking for antiques.

Although ill be gone for an entire year, that didn't stop us from doing what we loved the most, browsing.

Eliza wondered around while I inspected an ugly but interesting china set. “Looks like the thing my grandmama would have loved.” A voice said.

Without paying much attention, I smiled, “Mine too.”

I couldn't help but think of my grandmother and her sunny kitchen with outdated flower wall paper.

There had been so much love in that kitchen.

I looked around some more and noticed that Eliza was busy somewhere else. Our tastes differed, but when we had had ou

Leonardo“Thank you for the wonderful Lunch Anna,” my mother said after the maids have cleared the table, and even though Anna hadn't lifted a finger in the preparation of the meal, she still blushed at the compliment. The lunch wouldn’t have been something I would have chosen to disturb my day, but I had to admit. It was good.My mother had called to say she was on her way to 'catch up', something I didn't buy even for a second. The conversation was easy and flowing, mostly because my mother was fond of Anna and they had a lot to talk about. “It was wonderful,” I borrowed from my mother’s words when I addressed Anna, who licked up all the praises.“I need to get back to work, “I said and made a move to escape but my mother’s stares kept me seated. “Before you go, son, I want to talk to you.” She said.Anna took that as her queue to leave the table. This was between mother and son. “Sure.” I said and glanced as Anna left us alone on the table overlooking the private garden.I ret

Olivia My time was up and I needed to go back to my gilded cage. This time I was ready as Cici took my small bag and put it in the car's trunk. I had packed a few items that I hoped would make my stay more tolerable at the mansion. “Ready to go?” Cici asked. It was a lot of improvement from the last time. “Yes.” He opened the door, and I jumped in. Happy that it was him and not his brother. Cici was easy to talk to, unlike his brother who was a ticking time bomb, always ready to go off at any minute. “What did you get up to?” He looked at me through the review mirror, smiling “Nothing out of the ordinary, just packed my belongs. And you, anything fun?” I didn't know where this conversation was going, but I wondered if he knew about my new mystery friend, Vincent and hence the question. “Nothing out of the ordinary, too.” He made eye contact again. I wished there was a way to ask about Vincent but didn't know how, since I was also not sure about him. The money he offer

Olivia After I enjoyed coffee with Rosa, I took the stairs to my room feeling less vindictive than I did when I had walked in through the front door earlier. Rosa had shared a lot with me, and I didn't know why. The only reason I could think of was that she was fond of Leonardo and she wanted me to understand why he was the way he was. From one human to human, I understood that the kind of pain he went through of finding his brother and girlfriend shot dead in a very compromising manner could harden and change any man, but still.. No amount of understanding was going to change my situation, I had not seen the other side of him that everyone talked about. To me he had been nothing but an ass and nothing would excuse Leonardo for being the biggest ass in the entire country. I walked into my old bedroom, and it was as immaculate as always. The covers and curtains had been changed. The light that came through the silky white curtains casted a glow that appeared angelic and yet I was

OliviaThis was my opportunity, my one time chance to escape from the gilded cave and Leonardo needed to hear that.“No.” I whispered back, the opposite of what my rational mind was telling me.“Then good.” He put his hand on my chin and tilted my face to look at him.“I was hoping you would say that.” He said and caressed my jaw with his thumb, sending sparks in its wake. The longer I looked into his eyes. The deeper I could feel myself falling into a hole I had no control over.My breath caught. I grappled his hand and put a stop to the spell for a split second.“What’s this?” I was desperate for clarity, anything that would sort the mess of emotions that had flooded me and more than anything I needed him to provide me with that clarity.“It can be anything we want it to be.” He didn’t grant me my wish, but his words ignited a fire that caught up with the one I was already feeling and spread throughout my whole body.God, was I really letting this happen, after everything I knew abo

Olivia After entertaining Leonardo, I was worried about the consequences that would follow as I sat on a set dining table with no one in sight. I heard Anna’s shoes before I could see her. I hadn’t seen her the whole day I’d been back. The minute she saw me, she came to give me a hug and kisses. “I missed you, silly.” She said and took her seat. “I missed you too.” I couldn’t believe how true that was. She had made me feel welcome, and I had looked forward to seeing her again. “I was getting worried, thinking I’ll be dining alone. Rosa Food was the only thing I’d been thinking about when I was away.” Rosa hovering nearby blushed scarlet, and it made me wonder if she heard nothing she shouldn’t have earlier. The delayed guilt was present, and I chewed on my lower lip to calm myself down. “I meant to see you earlier, but I met important people.” She said in her usual girly manner. “Oh?” That was one less thing to worry. If she was not in the house, she couldn’t have

Leonardo I looked at the dark liquid swirling around my glass. My mood was just as dark. I was not one to be taken over by emotions, but I was having a hard time ignoring what I was feeling. The feeling tasted something like rejection. I had been in a good mood before dinner, and afterwards I was totally something else. I refused to let one woman have such power over me. Sitting at the table and watching Olivia turn into different shades and stiffen in my presence had taken the joy out of my evening. What if she regretted our time together this afternoon? I had no way of knowing, and to ask her would be letting her in on my feelings, something that was not about to happen. A light knock sounded before Cici poked his head in the door. "Drinking alone?" He asked. Walking into the library. "Care to join me?" I beckoned for him to come over. "Why would a man living in a house with two beautiful women hide himself in a library?" "You said it yourself. He lives with two women, as

OliviaI woke up feeling hungry and exhausted from the tossing and turning I did last night. The white light that flooded the room didn't help matters, but the smell of fresh coffee and toast had me smiling to myself.Rosa. Rosa.I put my feet on the floor to slip into my slippers, stretched and my tired bones gave that wonderful crackling sound. To say I had a poor sleep would be an understatement of the century.I had a nightmare after nightmare, all starring the same person. As I turned around with a loud, unladylike yawn, I almost jumped out of my skin. The starring of my nightmares had manifested into reality and was sitting at my dining nook.Leonardo had a cup of coffee in one hand and a paper in the other. That must have been the coffee I had smelled.“Are you going to stand there and stare or?” He asked.Judging by the way his body didn't move a muscle, I hadn't realized that he was aware of me standing there.“I think the relevant question is, what are you doing in my room?”

Olivia Although Leonardo had left me more confused than ever when he spoke with riddles, there was only one person that I knew who could decode the whole message for me. I walked through the house and to the backyard. Anna was sitting under a gazebo painting. This was the first time I had seen her doing anything other than sipping a cocktail. “Hey you,” she called to me as soon as she heard me coming. “Hey,” I said, looking at the canvas in front of her. “This is really good. I didn't know you painted.” I was surprised at her hidden talent. “Sometimes,” she put the paintbrush in a liquid solution. “I was feeling jittery with nerves; I needed something to calm me down.” “I see.” I moved into the shade, picked a foldable chair, and sat. “That knitted brow on your face tells me that there is something you want to get off your chest. What is it.” I was not aware that I was such an open book. I straightened my back and sat up straighter. “As a matter of fact, there is.” I said.

Olivia The awkward silence that followed Leonardo’s announcement; I could cut it with a thin knife. Anna looked broken, and I didn’t blame her, she had put her all in preparing for the wedding. When she looked in my direction, I averted my eyes and focused on the golden lines on the marble surface. I couldn’t face her broken stare. “When did this happen?” she asked, her voice cracking under the weight of her distress. I looked at Leonardo for answers but he couldn’t be bothered instead he looked annoyed that he was being questioned. Damn him. If Leonardo could do something like this to someone who was like family, only one question remained: what he was going to do to an outsider like me when the truth came out? I didn’t want to stick around and found out what would unfold next. I excused myself and walked over to the double doors that led to the Terrance outside, the minute I opened the doors, a warm breeze slapped my face and I smiled, knowing I would take that an

Leonardo The rest of the lunch sailed by smoothly, with Olivia fidgeting like a cold puppy. I knew that the marriage proposal was a shock to her, but if things went the way I had planned, we wouldn’t have to pretend for long and will be both out of it sooner than expected. I pressed the ignition button, and the car came to life with a roar of the powerful horse engine it was. I seldom had the time to move around without one or two of my man following me, but when it happened, I made the most of it. “Can I ask you something?” Olivia said from the passenger seat as I navigated my way out of the parking lot. I threw a glance at her, “Shot.” “Why are you doing this?” “Doing what?” “Why do we need to get married?” If I knew the answer to that question, I wouldn’t be where I was. I inhaled. “I told you, you don’t have to worry about it; it will only be on paper and won’t affect our arrangement” Who was I kidding? My feelings confused me and my thought pr

Olivia “Want some cream to go with your coffee, ma’am?” The server asked. I shook my head. “No thanks, black is fine.” He flipped his writing pad closed and left us alone to place the orders. Leonardo had said he wanted to talk away from the mansion. We took a drive around the city and settled at a cosy Italian cafe just outside the city. I wondered how he stumbled upon these spaces. I was getting better in knowing the things that he liked. From the first time I’d been with him, it was clear to me that he favoured rustic and authentic over modern when it came to eating out. “Scared someone might recognize you?” He asked with a catch of amusement when he caught me looking around. 'You do not know half of it.' I thought to myself and made an effort to smile and appear carefree. “You wanted to talk.” I said, rubbing a shaky hand on my pants under the table. “Yes, but before I can get to that, tell me about you.” He leaned on his arms on the wooden table. “Wh

Leonardo At the top of the stairs, I sighed. Why was I on that floor? With the excitement of the kitchen, my feet had taken me in the wrong direction. I could have used the bedroom I kept on the same floor for convenience, but that was not what I had planned. I walked to Olivia's door and tried to knock but my hand stopped mid air. It was past midnight, and what would I say if she opened the door? I was well within my rights to demand to see her whenever I felt like it, but still…that stupid contract; it felt like a mockery. I crunched against the door and thought about budging in there and waking her up. Who was this pathetic person? I didn't recognize myself anymore. I was Leonardo De Luca. I took what I wanted without asking. I squeezed my eyes shut and wiped them with my hand. That was before she crawled under my skin. Olivia Despite the nerves and everything that happened around me, I got some decent sleep. After checking that my room was in a spotless condition, I alwa

OliviaMy palms wouldn't stop sweating. I had plugged the device in Leonardo's santrum, and I was already feeling guilty; last night Leonardo had worshiped my body.If the detective had been listening in last night, she got a lot of steamy moans to put into her report, and that should teach her to mind her own business.I took the stairs down to the kitchen. A crackling of female laughter met my ears before I could reach the landing. It was past breakfast, and thanks to my shenanigans, I was doing the walk of shame.“Hey, where have you been?”Anna asked me the instant she saw.I felt like a deer caught in the headlights. Did I tell her what I've been doing all night?“I…I.” I stammered.“No worries. Come and meet Leo's sister.” She pulled me to the sunroom.Leonardo had a sister? I stumbled behind her, trying to sort myself out.“Look who I found. Olivia Zera, Zera Olivia.” She introduced us.Zera got up from her seat and extended her hand in greeting, which ended in a hug.“I'm Zera

Leonardo Finding Olivia in my room was no surprise. I was only surprised that she had taken that long to snoop around. It seemed everyone in their right mind was always interested in seeing what one got up to. Maybe they thought I hanged dead men and skulls everywhere. She jumped when I showed up, a bit on edge; maybe the shopping I heard about with Anna hadn't gone well. My security system had alerted me to someone opening my room; my gut feeling had told me already that it wouldn't be Rosa so late, and I knew Anna wouldn't overstep this boundary. This left only one person who didn't know about the Sentrum. Olivia. “Let's sit.” I said and guided her to a comfortable couch the moment I realized she looked like she was ready to pass out. Despite the intrusion, when my eye saw the exposed delicate skin, I couldn't deny how much I wanted her. I brushed my face with my hand; I was making a mess of an already tricky situation. This was not how things were supposed to go. S

OliviaThe rest of the shopping passed in a blur. I couldn't eat or enjoy the day.As soon as we arrived back at the mansion. I was soaked in cold sweat.“Are you okay?” Anna asked.I'd been quiet the entire drive. "I'm not sure.” I said.“The dress sizes messed up your day, hey?” She asked.“Yes. Something like that.”“I'm sorry and for what it's worth. I can't even see the weight.”My weight was the last thing on my mind. I couldn't give a rat's ass if I weighed five hundred pounds; in fact, I would welcome it more than the misery I was in.“I think I'll lie down before dinner.”“Okay, sweetie.”Nothing made sense; how the heck did I go from being a slave to being a spy?I didn't care who said what; this was a suicide mission. Leonardo would kill me on the spot if he found out. When sleep didn't come, I got up from the bed and went downstairs.I didn't even know the mansion that well.“Hello, Rosa.”“Miss Olivia.” She abandoned her shopping bags and walked over to the island.“Shoul

Olivia “You’re up early,” Anna remarked as I appeared on the landing. “I could say the same thing about you.” I said, I hadn't seen much of her. “Where did you go yesterday with Leo?” She asked, walking to the breakfast table. Yes, yesterday. My entire day was spent with Leonardo, beginning at the Zeus family club. Later, when his ride arrived, he changed his mind about taking me home and going to the office, instead we enjoyed a city drive. In the evening, we ate at an Italian bistro. The atmosphere of the bistro alone was enough to have my tongue wagging about my life. And that had been the highlight of the evening for me. “Some Italian bistro downtown; I can't remember the name.” I said vaguely and Anna made a face. Anna was a princess kind of girl and wanted to be treated like one everyday. “The things Leo sometimes does can leave one wondering, what do they do with all that money?” “What money?” “The family wealth, duh, but once we marry, I'm going to bring

Leonardo We made it to club Zeus, one of the club that the family owned. I wouldn't have chosen it for today, but it was the closest to the restaurant.“What are we doing here? It's a club?” Olivia asked as she looked around the quiet opulent space.“I know. I thought you might need a breather from those shoes.” I said, and she looked at her feet, which I was sure were on fire by then.“Yeah, I could do with a rest and then you tell me why you stopped my business meeting.”“Then come this way.” I said and led her upstairs to an office I used when I came to the club.“ You know this place well.” It was a statement and a question all in one.“Yes, I do.”I opened the door, and she walked in. Since my mom handled the interior design of our businesses, I happily shared the space with her. This office, while less furnished than my others, featured a couch near a window with a view of the busy street below.I took a chair behind the mahogany desk that I kept bare except for a desktop, and
