In an ordinary situation, Gina wouldn't have agreed to move into Henry's mansion. True, she wasn't well to do and she liked the good life, but she also prided herself on her level of self respect. Gina was ready to stay in her own house and find a way through the marriage, if it meant keeping her dignity. However, there were two problems with that.

One, her rent had expired three months ago and she was living on borrowed time based on her charming kindness to the old woman who owned the two storey building she stayed in. Secondly, and more importantly, the contract she signed included a clause that stated she had to stay with Henry for the most part of the year during their marriage. In other words, she was bound to him for three quarters of the season and couldn't stay on her own, even if she wanted to. Every time she remembered it, she half felt like slapping herself because she neglected to read that part.

Gina's mind continued to drift on the many choices she had before a shake of her hands brought her back to reality, standing face to face with Henry's mom. She was tongue tied, so she just smiled at the woman who seemed to be glowing, while her son grimaced and pulled her in for a short hug with Gina watching. Although there was not a lot of words passed between the mother-son quo, she got the feeling that they were quite close and somehow, she found it hard to believe because of who Henry was. Also, she didn't quite know how the woman would be yet.

After some minutes, all three of them went into the house and Gina could feel two pairs of eyes behind her watching as she marvelled at the elegant display of wealth. Everywhere she looked was filled with some antique or decoration that screamed money and class, and she nearly stretched her hand out to touch them. However, she felt conscious of the fact that Henry or his mother could snap at anytime. She quickly held her hand and looked away, slowly walking further into the house. She didn't want to be embarrassed, not in front of the guards.

"You didn't inform me you were coming, Mom," Henry said, with a tone Gina could not quite comprehend. But his mother could because she laughed and touched his hand, before looking towards where Gina stop with a huge grin on her face.

"It was obviously a surprise," she shrugged and spread out her hands as she walked forward to give the soon to be bride a hug. "I wanted to see my son and my beautiful daughter-in-law. Is that a crime, honey?" As Gina hugged the woman back, not like she had a choice, she knew for certain that the woman would be around for a few days. She watched Henry's face as he shook his head slightly and then stared at her so much, that for a second, she forgot how to breathe. In shock, Gina blinked her eyes and realized that he was telling her to play the role she was recruited for.

She quickly smiled and put on her most charming look. "I am so sorry I didn't call before Henry and I got engaged. I was packed up with work, and frankly, I wasn't sure you would like me." Gina had long since learned that for some people, the best way to get through to them was make them feel more important and she had a feeling it would work for Henry's mother. She wasn't surprised when the woman fervently shook her head and took her hand.

"Nonsense. Don't worry about that. I'm just happy that my boy has found himself a pretty wife. He's had a tough time with women, and the last one, I don't know if he told you, left him quite–"

"Okay, Mom. I believe Gina has heard enough. Why don't we freshen up and come back for dinner?" Henry hastily offered, much to their chagrin, as Gina was very much interested in his past relationships. She didn't know a lot about the man, but she felt that an insight into his love life would give her some clarification about him. However, she could detect a hint of annoyance – and was that embarrassment? – on his face. No doubt he didn't want her in his private business.

As the topic was changed and his mother started talking about the situation of the business at home, Gina busied herself with coming up with plans to learn more about Henry from his mother. Secretly, she hoped she brought his baby pictures with her. What a field day she would have! Soon, they got upstairs and while Henry showed his mother to her room, Gina tried to see if there was a third room she could stay in. She was so engrossed in this that she didn't realize when Henry put his hand over her shoulder and kissed her cheek.

"My love, our room is this way. The biggest for the best," he grinned and Gina looked at him in shock. She knew he was being Iike that for his mother's benefit, but it was so out of character for him. For a second, she felt he was a different person and she couldn't lie that she didn't like it. Falling into character herself, Gina smiled and leaned into him until his mother entered into her room. Henry dropped his hand faster than a child would a fire, and the smile wiped off. After the guards carried the bag into their room, Gina turned to Henry.

"We can't possibly share a room," she started, glancing at the queen sized bed and imagining how soft it would be. Surely, there were other rooms like that in the big house and it wouldn't hurt to have–

"I couldn't agree more with you," her soon-to-be husband answered swiftly and when she raised her eyes to meet his, he shoved his hand into his pockets and Gina could have sworn she saw him stand a little bit straighter. "However, we don't have a choice. My mom came here unannounced, and we certainly have to put on a show for her. If there is one person that can smell foul play, it's her."

The first thing that came to Gina's mind was that Henry Thorn was scared of his mother. That gave her a bit of courage, and she shrugged. "If she can smell a lie, why start it? Would it hurt so much if you told her the truth?" She knew she had said something quite foolish, but she kept her head high and waited for the response, all the while eyeing the soft bed.

"It's a water bed, and the only one in this house," Henry glanced at the bed and back at her, while spotting a smirk which soon disappeared. "Do you think I would be stressing over this if I could just tell my mother the truth?" It was a rhetorical question, but Gina caught the drift and sighed in defeat before looking around the wide room.

The second most loveable feature was the huge wardrobe placed at one corner of the room. As she walked closer to it, she saw that a section opened into a closet and she gasped in delight. The brightly lit room was twice the size of her bedroom and it was filled with clothes of different colours and styles. "Are these–"

"You have to wear something during your stay here," Henry grimaced again, standing at the door of the closet and Gina watched as his eyes ran over her body before coming to rest on her head. She shuddered slightly, unable to decide if she found it sensual, insulting or downright annoying. "No one wants to see you in the cheap clothes of yours."

Insulting, it was. She clenched her fists as she felt small vapours of steam from her ears. Her clothes, no matter how cheap, were bought with hard earned money and she wasn't about to let anyone downgrade her for making an honest living. "Excuse me, I got those clothes with my money and I'm not ashamed to wear them. It wasn't an issue for you when you asked me to marry you."

Henry scoffed and shook his head lightly. "Believe me, it definitely was."

Gina's gasp filled the tense air and she folded her arms in an attempt at come back when a knock sounded and she sighed quietly. She moved away form the closet and watched as Henry opened the door to reveal his mother in a fresh set of clothes. If she looked like a regal queen some hours ago, now she resembled a royal goddess. She was so pretty, and though she would never admit it, Gina saw where Henry got his good looks from.

"I heard some noise earlier on. Is everything alright?" A part of Gina wanted to come out and say she no longer wanted to be part of the sham, but before she stepped forward, Henry answered for them both.

"Everything is fine, Mom. We were just discussing the marriage plans." The woman's face lit up and she swiftly walked into the room, dragging both her son and Gina with a beam on her face.

"That's what I want to hear. Let's discuss it then."

Before Gina realized what was happening, day turned into night and she found herself sitting beside Henry's mom discussing the wedding plans. She never envisioned that she would be communicating about such an intricate topic with Mrs. Thorn, number two in top leading women of the century. It felt like a dream come true, but at the same time, she felt nervous and fake. Anyone could see how happy the woman felt that her son was getting married, and Gina felt bad for stringing her on, especially when it was quite obvious they wouldn't be married for a long time. After a few seconds of self pity, she shook her head slightly and resumed smiling at the woman. There was no time to feel guilty about anything, so she had to do her best to enjoy the moment. Gina's eyes floated to the seat beside her and landed on the iPhone on the table. It was Henry's and she wondered if he knew it was still on the dining table. Before she could think of what to do, his mother's eyes tur

After Gina finished breakfast, Henry's mother held her hand and looked lovingly into her eyes. "I'm so happy my son found you. It's so easy to see how much he is in love with you, and I'm sure your marriage will be a happy one." The woman looked like she wanted to cry, and Gina wanted to give up at that point. How could she keep deceiving this woman? It was unfair, and she felt this sudde urge to come out with the truth and damn the consequences.Luckily, Henry broke the mood and walked over to his mother's side to hold her hand. "Mom, you'll make her cry. You've told her how happy you are so many times, I'm sure she's tired of hearing it. Aren't you, Gina?" He turned to her with a silent question on his lips, but she looked away from him and smiled at his mother."I am very happy to be with Henry, and I will try my best to make this marriage work." It was a short speech, but it was all she could manage. It seemed to work however, because the woman wiped her tears and nodded, before p

After many days of preparation and quite frankly, running around town to get the perfect dress, jewelry, makeup artist and souvenirs, Gina was tired and overwhelmed. Even though Henry's mom assumed her that it would be a stress free event, it ended up being frustrating. There was so much to do and with so little time, but when the day of the wedding came, Gina's jitters and nervousness overshadowed the stress of the past few days. As she looked down below where the wedding car was waiting to take her to the church, she tried to calm herself down.It was the day of her wedding and unlike what she thought, no one was there for her. She had reviewed the guest list two days ago and everybody invited was from Henry's side. According to what he said, it was his mother who knew most of them and she was obviously hoping to make a few connections and get Gina roped into their world as quickly as possible. However, the bride to be couldn't decide whether it was really nec

As they dished out congratulations, she smiled softly and tried to avoid the eyes of the top dignitaries. It wasn't hard to guess that most of them didn't really like her but still many of them came over with fake smiles plastered on their faces."Welcome to the family, darling," a red-haired woman said as she gave Gina an air hug. The scent of her perfume stuck in the bride's nose and she grimaced, fighting hard for air. That was the part she hated about celebrities and famous people, a lot of them were fake and it was hard to tell which one was worthy to have by your side. Gina tried to smile as the woman's numerous pearl beads on her neck squashed against her low cut dress, pressing deep into her skin and in desperation, she pushed back, but the woman held on and pressed her red lips to her ear."You will never really belong, try hard as you might," the woman moved away and chuckled like she said something funny. A part of Gina wanted to

Gina tossed and turned throughout most of the night. Try hard as she might, she couldn't help herself from thinking about why Henry hadn't said anything to her before stepping into his room. Even though she wasn't surprised at his behaviour, a part of her was still annoyed. If for anything, she was now his wife and though a voice in her head reminded her it was all for show, she still wanted to feel important enough. It was ultimately annoying that he didn't seem to consider her at all.She lay still in bed for some minutes, thinking about whether to approach him or not. However, it was very late at night and she doubted he would still be awake and even if he was, disturbing him would make their situation worse. With this in mind, she settled for approaching him in the morning and then tried to sleep. Something told her she would have a busy day ahead and she needed to be well rested for it. Yet, her mind swarmed with another thought. The passionate kiss at the altar. In all Gina's ye

Henry didn't wait to wish his new bride a good night before running off to his room and locking behind him. For all his preparations, he hadn't expected the wedding to take that long and now he was back in the real world, way behind work. He wanted nothing more than to unwind and maybe have a drink, but the responsibilities of his father's company beared down on his shoulders. It was times like this that he wondered if he should go with his father's best friend's suggestion and hand over the company to him.At the thought of that, he nearly slapped himself. He would never do that, the Thorn corporation was going to stay in heir family for generations to come and he would make sure if it. Settling down, he opened his laptop and started to get to work. There were a lot of files he needed to deal with, and he hoped that the time he took off for his honeymoon would be enough to deal with it. Left to him, he would have gone to work the next day. But a paid leave was

Immediately Gina entered the car, she handed over the wads of bills she was supposed to give the receptionist. "Thank you for catering to my mother's bills, but I had it covered. So, I'm giving you this in return," she says, all but thrusting the money into his palm. She didn't feel comfortable with allowing him pay for her mother's needs, knowing fully well she could now foot the bills. Thanks to her contract marriage, she was almost a millionaire so a few ten thousands would not hurt her so bad.Yet, Henry rejected the money and signalled for the driver to move. "I paid your mother's bills not out of pity, if that's what you're thinking. Rather, she reminded me of my father when I saw how close the two of you are. I know what it feels like to lose a loved one, and if there is any way for me to make nobody experience that, I would. So consider the money I spent as a way to make sure you don't experience what I did, at least not yet."Gina w

Immediately the plane landed, Gina heaved a sigh of relief. She had been bearing the trip for over five hours, and when she got up once to use the toilet, that was the time the plane decided to turn slightly as there was a bit of turbulence. She very near screamed, but managed to comport herself at the end. However, she didn't stand up from her seat again. As people started getting up to step down, she sighed and subtly rubbed her butt. It was certainly tired and needed a bit of stretching, so while Henry's guards carried the bags, she proceeded to step out.She didn't get very far before being intercepted by a string of flashlights and microphones held up to her face with an array of questions all at once."Are you here with your husband?""There are rumours of the marriage being false, what do you have to say?""Is this a honeymoon, or just for show?"The paparazzi was too much

Just before Gina called Mr. Cornwell, she decided to go visit her mother. It was a combination of two reasons, mostly because she hasn't seen the woman in a long time and because her best friend also wanted to see her. As he dressed up, he couldn't help but remember the argument he had with his wife last night, and before the call came in, he was hoping to settle with her last night but apparently, it would no longer be possible.Within minutes, he finished dressing up and went downstairs where he realized that Gina was already sitting at the dining table. The first thing he noticed was that she was still clad in her nightwear, which meant she had just woken up from sleep. Henry wanted so bad to follow Gina up the stairs to her room, but before he heard the lock turning, he already knew it wouldn't be possible. If advicing her meant that they wouldn't speak anymore that might, he was easy to live with that. With his mind set on that, he headed upstairs as well and in few minutes, he was already in the bathroom.More than anything, he loved Gina and wanted her to be respected at all costs. Apart form her being his wife which came with a lot of respect, and prestige, she was also a woman who deserves to be valued. Not sleazy looking. Henry knew it was wrong to refer to the women like that, but a lot of times, that was how he saw them. Always scantily dressed and ready to engage in other things. As the chaffeur drove them home, Gina failed to understand why Henry was stopping her. She even tried to think about whether the man he was talking to had annoyed him in some way, so much so that he wanted to rub it off on her and stop her from doing what she wanted. Even though she had never really thought about becoming a model or something like that, she had always wanted a chance at spotlight. A chance for people to see how beautiful she was, on the outside. Though it was still a good thing, she sometimes got tired of having to rely on her inner beauty. In some sort of way, it sounded vain but she had long realized that in order to be happy, sometimes you needed to be selfish and put yourself out there. When she decided to go to the function with Henry, she didn't even given much thought to her outfit except the fact that she looked amazing in it.
