GINA POV
I was really mad and I knew I’d acted way out of proportion, it took a few hours for the anger to finally wear out and for the realization of me losing my job had just settled over me.
“What was I thinking? Why would I do that?” I scolded myself as I mentally slapped myself while walking back home, I’d decided to take a rest before going home and now it just seemed like my life had taken the worst turn it could ever take.
I live off of what I make from the restaurant, from serving people and now, I have no job or anything to help me get through the day.
I stood up to continue my work as I also continued scolding myself for acting so irrationally, another man had lied to me and broken my heart. Why did I think it was okay to take out the anger on someone else?
The importance of the client I’d lashed out on hit me when I got fired immediately he was dissatisfied.
I picked up my phone and went through my contact, staring at my boss’ contact intently. I contemplated calling and apologizing but I knew that there was no point as he was also stubborn.
I got home and decided I was going to take a shower before taking my cereal and going to bed.
‘I’ll try applying for a new job tomorrow.’ I sighed as I laid on my bed and thought of what I’d just gone through with a man, I’d lived my whole life just to satisfy him and now I’d just thrown my whole life away.
Ding dong ding dong.
The sound coming from the alarm I’d set on my phone jolted awake, I didn’t know I had fallen asleep already until I woke up.
I picked up my phone to check the time, it was 6:30 and the morning seemed to be a little bit chilly than usual.
Reluctantly, I stood up to prepare for my daily exercise, go for my morning run before having a bath and trying my luck in another restaurant.
“Shit!” I let out breathlessly as I checked the time, I’d been running for almost an hour and now I need to do what I had to do in a rush.
Rushing to the bathroom, I brushed my teeth as hurriedly as I could and also had my bath before getting out and throwing my clothes on. I dabbed some lipstick on my already chapped lips before wishing myself luck and walking out of the room.
The traffic I got stuck in wasn’t one I was expecting, I knew I stood no chance but I still thought to try. This was my first interview and I really hoped it would go great.
I got to the restaurant and adjusted the hem of my dress while also propping myself properly, I made my way in as gently as I could, wearing my biggest smile.
“Good morning.” The lady at the front desk said to me with a smile.
It was a really big restaurant and if I could get a job here, it’ll be way better than my previous job, smiling and getting out of my head. I spoke.
“Hi, good morning. I saw you’re hiring and I’d decided to come for an interview, it stated that it will be holding today.” I spoke to the lady at the front desk, I was breathless already due to all of the rush.
The look she gave me told me that wasn’t what she was expecting me to say, she’d probably thought I was coming to make a reservation.
“For what post, ma’am?” She asked politely and I let out a small smile.
“Waitress please, I’m Gina Georgia—“ I started saying but was cut short when she decided to talk.
“I’m sorry miss Gina but you’re late and that job was given out to someone else, I’m really sorry,” she apologized and I nodded my head in fake understanding, “but if you can drop your resume, we’ll contact you when there is another opening.” She added.
I agreed to do so but I knew she would never get back to me, it was just a lie, one I’m already used to.
I continued my job hunting and when it was getting dark, I finally gave up. I’d decided to go back home and just try again next week.
Four different restaurants and they’d all rejected me, I regretted all of my actions. I regret letting my anger take the best of me. I scrolled through my phone for a while as I went through some funny content to help me cheer up a little.
The sound coming from my bedside alarm once again woke me up, it was an early Monday morning and this time, I’d decided I was going to skip the early morning run.
That was probably the reason I went to my interviews late but I knew that was a lie, I always get to my interviews late because I’d failed to plan my time properly.
I sighed as I made my way to the bathroom, the cold water stinging my skin and making me yelp in pain.
I finally relaxed and soon I was done with my bath, I walked out of the bathroom to the kitchen to make myself a bowl of cereal before going online to job hunt as that was what I always do these days if I’m not walking around the city in search of a job opportunity.
“Let’s get hired.” I smiled as I opened up my laptop in front of me and went on LinkedIn, my favorite site. After minutes of scrolling up and down with no luck, I finally gave up.
I was starting to feel positive about today but it looked like my positivity was in vain, just when I was about to stand, I received a notification.
‘Waitress needed, must be beautiful and have good customer service—“
I didn’t finish reading the requirement before I scrolled down to the address, I grabbed my keys as I ran out of my house with my resume in my hand and I was thankful I’d had my bath before I decided to scroll through LinkedIn.
This is my last resort and I silently prayed that it goes well as it will mean a lot for me if it does.
I walked in the restaurant and the person I saw was who I least expected to see. There he was, the cheat at my previous job.
He was probably there to find a fling, I smirked as we locked eyes but I averted mine at once, I wasn’t ready to have eye contact with a cheat.
Everything about men these days irk me, after what Ken had done to me, men just seem to irritate me.
“Son of a bitch, fucking cheat—“ I mouthed as I poked my tongue out at him a little and I was surprised when he didn’t react.
He was instead amused by my reaction and letting out a small smirk, he also looked in the other direction as he continued speaking to the man he was standing with.
His easy dismissal made me mad, because I knew that’s probably how he toys with his wife’s feelings and the multiple girlfriends he must definitely have.
“Birds of a feather, disgusting bunch.” I mumbled to myself as I made my way to the front desk with a big smile on my face, “Good morning.” I greeted.
“Good Morning, miss—“ she greeted back as she tried to catch my name.
“Gina.” I immediately answered and she nodded with a smile as she repeated after me.
“How May I help you?” She asked and I cleared my throat before answering, I’d told her I was job hunting and I’d come across an ad that stated that they needed a waitress.
“Is the spot still open?” I asked after all my explanation, I crossed my fingers and hoped for a positive answer.
“Yes,” she answered and my heart leapt for joy, “but you’ll need to see the boss before you can be hired.” She added and I nodded in agreement.
“That’s not a problem, can I see him now?” I asked and the lady nodded positively as she got out of the desk and invited me to follow her to the boss.
She knocked slightly on the door and we soon got invited in, I was more than shocked and my blood threatened to stop flowing as I stared directly into the eyes of the man that was seated at the table.
It was him. The man I’d emptied a plate of pasta on and I’d also insulted him when I got here. He is my boss.
I mentally slapped myself again and cussed a little, the odds seem to be against and not in my favour. I stood there dumbly as I anticipated what I was supposed to do next.
“You can go now.” He said to the person that had ushered me to his office and he made her way out immediately, leaving the both of us alone in the spacious office.
“Have your seat.” He offered in a soft voice and I felt mr already racing heartbeat accelerated another notch. My knees felt wobbly as I made to do as told, each step I too was agonizing and it was as though I’d faint from how nervous I currently am.
The office soon seemed unusually hot. I knew it was just me and not the office because the Air conditioner was working perfectly fine.
“I know you—“ He started saying and I nodded affirmatively.
There it goes, this is the part where he talks about what I did to him and how because of that he wouldn’t be able to hire me, and of course, me being desperate and pathetic, began to frantically apologize.
“Why did you do it though?” He asked, I knew he was referring to the insults and the pasta dump.
I was embarrassed but if I wanted to get the job I desperately need at this point, I needed to come clean.
I told him about Ken and how he’d cheated on me, I also told him I’d thought he was also one of the cheats out there and his reaction completely threw me off balance.
He was laughing hysterically at me, I raised my brows at him as if to ask if anything was funny and he got it.
“I’m sorry, let me get this straight. You poured pasta on me and insulted me because you thought I was cheating on someone because of what your cheating ex boyfriend did to you?” He asked amidst laughs but I could tell he was serious.
I almost wanted to roll my eyes and respond to him sarcastically, but I didn’t dare do any of those because I was currently really desperate.
I either get this job or my life is literally doomed.
“I’ll consider you for the job but first, you need to do as I say.” He spoke and I was already getting irritated, he was starting to show off his arrogance, and attitude which I grately despise.
“What might that be?” I asked and he reached to his locker to bring out a document, I was curious as to what the content might be.
“You’d have to get married to me.”
I blinked at him after a few seconds. “What?” I exclaimed.
For the first time, I saw him roll his eyes.
“It’s a contract marriage, and fortunately for you, you fit into what I’m looking for. Trust me, I’d never have wanted to get married to you on normal basis.”
I swallowed emptily and pretended like his last sentence hadn’t stung, even though I knew damn well that I’d never willingly get married to him too.
“Why do you need a contract wife?” I asked instead.
“That’s none of your business. Are you interested or not?” Was just response. I pursed my lips as I reached for a document which he had whipped out from his desk.
“You’ll have to sign this.” He said, it wasn’t a question, it was more like a statement and my curiosity took over as I collected the document from him and carefully went through the content of the contract that had just been handed to me.
“Henry Thorn?” I hadn’t realized I had said it out loud until he replied.
It was a contract of marriage, my assumption about him was wrong, he wasn’t married yet and he in fact was in search of a wife.
So, I had indeed jumped into conclusions yesterday? Which means I had gotten fired for nothing.
A wave of embarrassing engulfed me, which I pointedly ignored, while hoping this man right here wouldn’t notice.
I looked through the benefits and they were so tempting that I didn’t have to think twice before asking for a pen and going ahead to sign.
It says I’d also have to live with him.
Which I don’t really mind, seeing as I won’t have to bother about my rents any longer.
I also wasn’t looking forward to getting into another relationship, so this contract marriage doesn’t really seem like a big deal.
“Gina.” He spoke as he went through my signature on the paper and something about the way he said my name made me shiver, which I pointedly ignored once again.
“With this contract, you’re now legally bound to me as my wife for a year, which automatically makes you ‘Mrs Thorn’.”
I’d just agreed to be married to a man I know nothing about.
As Gina packed her bags and got ready to leave her life behind for good, she wondered, for the umpenteeth time, if she was doing the right thing. If someone had told her months ago that she would be married to a wealthy billionaire who didn't care for her or the life she lived, she would have laughed at the person's face. But here she was, dragging her suitcase behind her while Henry's men stood outside patiently waiting. Not all of them though, she thought, as she observed one looking at his wristwatch with an almost imperceptible frown on his face. She sighed and looked around the house once more, it held so many memories for her. Mostly ones she would rather forget, but there were few she would cherish in her heart forever. With that last thought in mind, she closed the front door behind her and stepped out onto the pavement where two guard quickly rushed forward and put her bags in the trunk of the Cadillac, while someone else opened the door for her to enter. She was about to ste
In an ordinary situation, Gina wouldn't have agreed to move into Henry's mansion. True, she wasn't well to do and she liked the good life, but she also prided herself on her level of self respect. Gina was ready to stay in her own house and find a way through the marriage, if it meant keeping her dignity. However, there were two problems with that. One, her rent had expired three months ago and she was living on borrowed time based on her charming kindness to the old woman who owned the two storey building she stayed in. Secondly, and more importantly, the contract she signed included a clause that stated she had to stay with Henry for the most part of the year during their marriage. In other words, she was bound to him for three quarters of the season and couldn't stay on her own, even if she wanted to. Every time she remembered it, she half felt like slapping herself because she neglected to read that part.Gina's mind continued to drift o
Before Gina realized what was happening, day turned into night and she found herself sitting beside Henry's mom discussing the wedding plans. She never envisioned that she would be communicating about such an intricate topic with Mrs. Thorn, number two in top leading women of the century. It felt like a dream come true, but at the same time, she felt nervous and fake. Anyone could see how happy the woman felt that her son was getting married, and Gina felt bad for stringing her on, especially when it was quite obvious they wouldn't be married for a long time. After a few seconds of self pity, she shook her head slightly and resumed smiling at the woman. There was no time to feel guilty about anything, so she had to do her best to enjoy the moment. Gina's eyes floated to the seat beside her and landed on the iPhone on the table. It was Henry's and she wondered if he knew it was still on the dining table. Before she could think of what to do, his mother's eyes tur
After Gina finished breakfast, Henry's mother held her hand and looked lovingly into her eyes. "I'm so happy my son found you. It's so easy to see how much he is in love with you, and I'm sure your marriage will be a happy one." The woman looked like she wanted to cry, and Gina wanted to give up at that point. How could she keep deceiving this woman? It was unfair, and she felt this sudde urge to come out with the truth and damn the consequences.Luckily, Henry broke the mood and walked over to his mother's side to hold her hand. "Mom, you'll make her cry. You've told her how happy you are so many times, I'm sure she's tired of hearing it. Aren't you, Gina?" He turned to her with a silent question on his lips, but she looked away from him and smiled at his mother."I am very happy to be with Henry, and I will try my best to make this marriage work." It was a short speech, but it was all she could manage. It seemed to work however, because the woman wiped her tears and nodded, before p
After many days of preparation and quite frankly, running around town to get the perfect dress, jewelry, makeup artist and souvenirs, Gina was tired and overwhelmed. Even though Henry's mom assumed her that it would be a stress free event, it ended up being frustrating. There was so much to do and with so little time, but when the day of the wedding came, Gina's jitters and nervousness overshadowed the stress of the past few days. As she looked down below where the wedding car was waiting to take her to the church, she tried to calm herself down.It was the day of her wedding and unlike what she thought, no one was there for her. She had reviewed the guest list two days ago and everybody invited was from Henry's side. According to what he said, it was his mother who knew most of them and she was obviously hoping to make a few connections and get Gina roped into their world as quickly as possible. However, the bride to be couldn't decide whether it was really nec
As they dished out congratulations, she smiled softly and tried to avoid the eyes of the top dignitaries. It wasn't hard to guess that most of them didn't really like her but still many of them came over with fake smiles plastered on their faces."Welcome to the family, darling," a red-haired woman said as she gave Gina an air hug. The scent of her perfume stuck in the bride's nose and she grimaced, fighting hard for air. That was the part she hated about celebrities and famous people, a lot of them were fake and it was hard to tell which one was worthy to have by your side. Gina tried to smile as the woman's numerous pearl beads on her neck squashed against her low cut dress, pressing deep into her skin and in desperation, she pushed back, but the woman held on and pressed her red lips to her ear."You will never really belong, try hard as you might," the woman moved away and chuckled like she said something funny. A part of Gina wanted to
Gina tossed and turned throughout most of the night. Try hard as she might, she couldn't help herself from thinking about why Henry hadn't said anything to her before stepping into his room. Even though she wasn't surprised at his behaviour, a part of her was still annoyed. If for anything, she was now his wife and though a voice in her head reminded her it was all for show, she still wanted to feel important enough. It was ultimately annoying that he didn't seem to consider her at all.She lay still in bed for some minutes, thinking about whether to approach him or not. However, it was very late at night and she doubted he would still be awake and even if he was, disturbing him would make their situation worse. With this in mind, she settled for approaching him in the morning and then tried to sleep. Something told her she would have a busy day ahead and she needed to be well rested for it. Yet, her mind swarmed with another thought. The passionate kiss at the altar. In all Gina's ye
Henry didn't wait to wish his new bride a good night before running off to his room and locking behind him. For all his preparations, he hadn't expected the wedding to take that long and now he was back in the real world, way behind work. He wanted nothing more than to unwind and maybe have a drink, but the responsibilities of his father's company beared down on his shoulders. It was times like this that he wondered if he should go with his father's best friend's suggestion and hand over the company to him.At the thought of that, he nearly slapped himself. He would never do that, the Thorn corporation was going to stay in heir family for generations to come and he would make sure if it. Settling down, he opened his laptop and started to get to work. There were a lot of files he needed to deal with, and he hoped that the time he took off for his honeymoon would be enough to deal with it. Left to him, he would have gone to work the next day. But a paid leave was
"Fine then, I'll do just as you have Said.. I'll have to be nicer to them but not close… it's fine then but I'll love it if you can desist from calling me names like fool, dummy etc. I do not really find it funny…" I said in protest, my Hands clasped together and then placed on my chest."I'll only stop calling you those names when you stop acting like one, got it?" I heaved a sigh. Angie raised her head to me."Are you by chance talking to me because you heard you say something just now?" She asked with a smile. I sabttr to snap at her but then I remembered the words of that being and I immediately changed my mind."No I wasn't. I was thinking of something the other time.. by the way… why hasn't this chef brought our meals…" I mumbled as I rose to my feet. I walked towards the Kitchen and was about walking in when I saw him approaching with two dishes on the tray."Hi Regina! Would you like to eat on the dinning table or in the sitting room?""The sitting room!" We chorused in unison
There was a certain thrill that came from planning a wedding. Whether an arranged marriage, a love marriage or in my case, a contract. Especially if the intended groom happened to own a whole lot of money. A private chaffeur, fancy parties, trips toworld-renowned designers, all expense paid stylists, helps to attend to my every need. But, the best part–seconded by the Annex card–was the popularity. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, Gina's name was all over the news, bringing in both positive and negative reviews. Suddenly, everyone had an opinion they felt entitled to especially the receptionist and secretaries in Thorn Corp. She saw the questions and accusations on their faces, some felt she did not deserve it, while others asked if blackmail was the reason. Why would a billionaire want to marry an unknown face, an ordinary secretary? If there was one thing they agreed on, any publicity was good publicity. He needed the media to see him as a humble CEO who fell for his 'number
Chloe"Five days end today," I groaned as soon as we stepped into the house. David and I had just arrived from meeting with the judge in charge of the case with Tristan.I was so damn tired. I could eat a whole freaking horse. Yes, it does David said as I lowered myself onto a sofa. Our trip seemed successful. Tristan would stand trial come Monday for stealing my parents' company. Soon, everything would all fall into place. Addison wasn't home. She had mentioned meeting up with certain people from college. I suppose she deserves to have some fun. She had been hard at work on my behalf ever since we moved back to South Carolina. "Adele and her nanny aren't home yet," I observed, whipping out my phone to call Melissa. "Hi Miss Montgomery," she muttered melissa was a shy timid woman who rarely spoke up. Sure she had pretty hair, but somehow I felt that Adele would give her a tough time. She was quite an impulsive child who could throw a tantrum Whenever things did bit go her way. "
Just before Gina called Mr. Cornwell, she decided to go visit her mother. It was a combination of two reasons, mostly because she hasn't seen the woman in a long time and because her best friend also wanted to see her. She was feeling really guilty about how she had neglected to see her mother these last few weeks, but it was not due to the fact that she was busy or something. Rather, she was just that a negligent with a lot of places in her life but she quickly shook her head. If she was being honest with herself, there was absolutely no excuse for what she did. With that in mind, she quickly turned to her friend and thanked her for making her to be able to see her mother again. She didn't know what she would have done without the girl in her life, but she said nothing and together they went to visit the woman. Her personal chaffeur had already been informed about her impending visit and by the time she stepped out, the car was ready and all they needed to do was go inside and wait f
The next morning, Hevry was up earlt because he needed to catch his flight which was scheduled for eight am, and considering the fact that it was very impromptu, he had to tell the executives at the office. They were shocked and a few mumbled about the sudden decision, but all in all, they agreed to work without him for a week and all that was left was to tell Gina. As he dressed up, he couldn't help but remember the argument he had with his wife last night, and before the call came in, he was hoping to settle with her last night but apparently, it would no longer be possible.Within minutes, he finished dressing up and went downstairs where he realized that Gina was already sitting at the dining table. The first thing he noticed was that she was still clad in her nightwear, which meant she had just woken up from sleep. Could it be that she had done it for him, he whispered, and despite himself, he smiled. Maybe, she was finally seeing reason with his decision. He was already at the f
Gina watched as he frowned for some seconds before finally sighing and putting his hands in his pockets. His gestures didn't really seem like he was open to listening, but at least, it was better than when his arms were folded and he just looked like she was disturbing. She really wanted him to understand why she was so interested in doing the modelling, even though he wouldn't be the one to ultimately decided if she did it or not. Normally, she night not even have told him. Maybe he would just hear that she had settled into it.But with her new feelings for him came new responsibilities. Since they were dating and he had plans of being serious, she felt obligated to share the details of her life with him. But as the days passed and he gave her an attitude, she regretted it more and more. In hindsight, she should have known that he wasn't the kind of person to bend easily but she also hasn't suspected that he would be so averse to modelling. Internally, she was really annoyed at the w
Henry wanted so bad to follow Gina up the stairs to her room, but before he heard the lock turning, he already knew it wouldn't be possible. It was clear as day to see that she was really upset with him, and while he understood why, he also didn't want to allow her to go into the world of modelling. If advicing her meant that they wouldn't speak anymore that might, he was easy to live with that. With his mind set on that, he headed upstairs as well and in few minutes, he was already in the bathroom.More than anything, he loved Gina and wanted her to be respected at all costs. Apart form her being his wife which came with a lot of respect, and prestige, she was also a woman who deserves to be valued. Not sleazy looking. Henry knew it was wrong to refer to the women like that, but a lot of times, that was how he saw them. Always scantily dressed and ready to engage in other things. The public didn't know much about him, but given who he was, he was sometimes privy to underground inform
As the chaffeur drove them home, Gina failed to understand why Henry was stopping her. She even tried to think about whether the man he was talking to had annoyed him in some way, so much so that he wanted to rub it off on her and stop her from doing what she wanted. Even though she had never really thought about becoming a model or something like that, she had always wanted a chance at spotlight. A chance for people to see how beautiful she was, on the outside. Though it was still a good thing, she sometimes got tired of having to rely on her inner beauty. In some sort of way, it sounded vain but she had long realized that in order to be happy, sometimes you needed to be selfish and put yourself out there. When she decided to go to the function with Henry, she didn't even given much thought to her outfit except the fact that she looked amazing in it. However, people complimented her on it so much detailing how it fit her body size and texture. If she was being honest with herself, it
Before Gina realized it, she and Mr. Cornwell were deep in conversation with Henry inputting something every now and then. She had learned he was a fashion icon for one of the leading designers in the country, and he was currently on the lookout for new models. Apparently, he was at the party to scout for anyone who seemed like they fit the type, and she found herself enthralled by his stories. For the first time since she arrived the party, she was actually holding a conversation with someone. Not just being by her husband's side while they discussed politics and things she didn't know about.Even though she felt that Henry wasn't very comfortable with the discussion, she couldn't help but feel a certain sense of power. She was the kind of person who actively followed style brands and fashion icons, so most of the things Mr. Cornwell said were actually stuff she could relate to and have an opinion of. After a moment of them just talking, Henry excused himself to go and greet one of t
