Isabelle sat behind the wheel of her car, gripping the steering wheel tighter than necessary. The conversation with her father lingered in her mind, unsettling her more than she wanted to admit.

"How much do you trust Liam Anderson?"

She had answered without hesitation—of course, she trusted Liam. But the way her father had smiled afterward, like he knew something she didn’t, like there was something she needed to find out quickly, sent an eerie chill down her spine.

Shaking off the feeling, she started the car and pulled out of the nursing home parking lot.

Liam had been acting strange lately, distant even, as if something heavy weighed on his mind. He had refused to accompany her today, brushing it off with the excuse of being busy, but Isabelle knew better.

Something was off.

Liam wasn't the kind of man that would say no to her request, especially when it comes to being together.

Her first instinct was to go home and wait for Liam, but she knew that sitting alone with her thoughts

Isabelle stirred, her body nestled comfortably in the warm sheets. A soft sensation brushed against her cheek—a kiss. Her eyes fluttered open to meet the striking blue gaze of her husband, Liam. He was watching her with a rare, tender expression, his fingers gently caressing her hair."Good morning, birthday girl," he murmured.Isabelle blinked, momentarily confused, then realization dawned on her.Her birthday. She smiled sleepily. "Oh... right. I almost forgot."Liam scoffed, shaking his head. "How could you forget? It’s a special day."He leaned down, pressing another kiss to her forehead. “I was thinking you could take the day off. I’ll take the day off too. We can spend the whole day together, just us. No work, no distractions.”She sighed, brushing a hand over his cheek. “That sounds wonderful, Liam, really. But I have some work to wrap up with PR Horizon. Ethan and I have been assisting their team behind the scenes. I didn’t tell anyone it’s my birthday, so no one should bother

The dining room buzzed with quiet conversation as everyone enjoyed the carefully prepared dinner. The air was warm with laughter and the clinking of glasses, but Allison, always one to stir things up, glanced around the table and smirked.“This is getting weird,” she announced, placing her wine glass down. “I only know a few people here. How about some introductions?”There were murmurs of agreement, and Allison took the lead. She lifted her chin, her confident demeanor on full display.“I’m Allison Simeone, CEO of PR Horizon and Isabelle’s boss.” She smirked. “Well, original boss, technically. Since someone else is Isabelle's boss here too.”A man sitting beside her cleared his throat, drawing attention. He had a quiet confidence, polished but not overbearing. “I’m Daniel. Allison’s boyfriend.”There were some surprised glances—mainly because no one expected Allison to bring a date. Isabelle raised a brow at her, but Allison just shrugged as if it were nothing.Next, Ethan spoke up,

Liam stormed out of the house, his long strides closing the distance between him and the delivery man in seconds. His heart pounded, not from exertion but from sheer rage. He grabbed the man's arm and yanked off his helmet. The stranger’s startled face met his.Liam's stomach twisted with frustration. He wasn’t the man he was expecting him to be. "Who sent you?" Liam demanded, his voice dangerously low.The delivery man, now visibly nervous, raised his hands in surrender. "I swear, I don’t know. I just got an online order to deliver this package. The money was wired, and I picked up the package from the train station as instructed."Liam clenched his fists. Of course, whoever sent this would have covered their tracks."You didn't see anyone? No instructions on who it’s from?"The man shook his head quickly. "No, sir. I was just following my job."Liam cursed under his breath. He wanted to punch something—or someone. But taking it out on a clueless delivery man wouldn't get him anywhe

Liam stood outside Isabelle’s bedroom door, his hand clenched into a fist as he knocked once again."Isa, please open the door," he called out, but there was no response. He had been trying for an entire day. She hadn't eaten, hadn't drunk water, and hadn't made a single sound. The silence was suffocating, a weight pressing heavily on his chest."Dammit, Isa!" he shouted, banging on the door this time. "Are you trying to kill yourself just because I kept a secret from you? Are you hurting yourself in there? If you don't open this door now, I swear... I'll break this door down"His voice was desperate, raw with frustration and fear. Just as he raised his fist to pound on the door again, it suddenly swung open.Liam took a step back, startled. There she was, standing in the doorway, dressed in a fitted sweater and jeans, her hair tied back neatly. A bag hung from her shoulder, packed for a stay away.Isabelle didn’t even spare him a glance. She stepped past him without a word, brushing

Isabelle lay motionless on the hospital bed, her face pale, her breathing was steady but weak. The sedatives had done their work, sending her into a deep sleep, shielding her from the chaos that awaited her once she woke up.Marcus stood by the bed, watching her, arms crossed. For the first time in years, he saw her without that fire in her eyes. She looked… delicate. Breakable. A twinge of something unfamiliar stirred in him, but he quickly brushed it aside. The doctor entered, holding a clipboard. "She collapsed from exhaustion," he explained. "Stress, lack of sleep, malnutrition. It’s a miracle she even made it this far. She needs rest—no sudden shocks, no stress, or we might be dealing with something worse next time."Marcus nodded, his face unreadable. "Make sure she gets the best care. Move her to a VIP ward, and…" He paused, his lips curling into a smirk. The doctor hesitated. "We usually require consent from the patient or an immediate family member. Are you the patient's fami

A soft beeping filled the air. Isabelle stirred, her eyelids fluttering as consciousness slowly returned. Her body felt heavy, and for a moment, everything was a blur. A dull ache throbbed in her head, but it wasn’t unbearable—just a lingering reminder of whatever had happened before she blacked out.She inhaled deeply, the sterile scent of antiseptic and hospital linens filling her nostrils. As she blinked, her vision cleared, and she took in the unfamiliar white walls and the IV drip attached to her arm. A hospital? Before she could make sense of it, a voice interrupted her thoughts.“You’re finally awake.”She turned her head slightly and saw Marcus sitting on the couch near the window. He was dressed casually, scrolling through something on his tablet. When he looked up and met her eyes, a smug smile crossed his face.“You slept for an entire day.”Isabelle’s breath hitched. A whole day? That meant she hadn’t seen Liam in two days. Her heart clenched at the thought. He must have b

The doorbell rang, breaking the silence in Ashley’s home. She walked over to the door, already knowing who it was. When she opened it, Liam stood there, his expression tense, worry evident in his eyes. He had rushed over the moment Isa texted him, unable to wait any longer.Ashley crossed her arms and gave him a small smile. “She’s inside. And before you start talking, I’ll be heading out. You two need to talk without me hovering around.”Liam nodded in gratitude before stepping in. Ashley grabbed her bag and made her way out, giving Isa a reassuring look before leaving.Isabelle had been sitting on the couch, hands folded on her lap, waiting. The moment Liam entered the room, she stood up. Their eyes met, and without hesitation, he walked straight to her and pulled her into a tight embrace. He buried his face in her shoulder, inhaling deeply, as if reassuring himself that she was real, that she was safe.“Don’t ever do that again. I was so worried about you,” he muttered, his voice r

The soft glow of morning sunlight seeped through the curtains as Isabelle stirred awake, the warmth of Liam’s embrace grounding her. She blinked drowsily, feeling his steady heartbeat beneath her cheek. For a fleeting moment, all the chaos in her life melted away.“You’re awake,” Liam murmured, his voice still laced with sleep.“Mhm,” she hummed, not wanting to move just yet.Liam shifted, propping himself up on one elbow to look at her. “Are you really okay?” His fingers brushed against her cheek. “After everything… I mean all the things that happened after your birthday?”Isabelle nodded, but deep down, she felt uneasy. Richard was unpredictable, and with Marcus involved, she had a feeling things wouldn’t be as simple as just signing divorce papers and moving on. Still, she didn’t want to worry Liam. “I will be. As long as I have you.”Liam exhaled, seeming to relax at her words. “Good. Because I meant what I said—I’ll do everything to protect you.”He pulled her closer. “So, are y

The air was warm, the scent of lavender faint and lingering. Isabelle stirred slowly, her lashes fluttering as she blinked her eyes open. A ceiling she didn’t recognize greeted her—a smooth white expanse with subtle carvings, the kind of detail that hinted at elegance and time. Her body was nestled into soft sheets, and as she shifted slightly, a faint sense of déjà vu pricked at her.She sat up slowly, confusion painting her face. This place—where was she?It wasn’t familiar… but it didn’t feel strange either. Her eyes scanned the room. Cream-colored walls, soft curtains swaying by the windows, a dresser lined with photos turned away, a full-length mirror positioned directly in front of the bed. Something about the mirror pulled her in. Her heartbeat quickened as a flicker of a memory danced through her mind—sitting in front of that mirror, smiling at her reflection. Then, a man’s reflection appeared behind her in the memory, lying on the bed, gazing at her with love in his eyes. Her

Sunlight filtered through the curtains of the unfamiliar room, warming the side of Isabelle's face as she slowly opened her eyes. Her lashes fluttered, then her eyes fully opened, and she stared at the pale blue ceiling above her. The sheets wrapped around her were crisp and smelled faintly of lavender. Her gaze swept across the room—white walls, minimal décor, a large mirror on one end, and a single framed photo on the nightstand. A wedding photo of her and Richard. That was the only photo in the room. In fact, now that she thought of it, the whole house seemed bare, emotionless, like a showpiece rather than a lived-in home.Isabelle sat up slowly, confusion clouding her expression. If I’ve really lived here for four years… why doesn’t it feel like home? She hadn’t even figured out where the toilet was without exploring yesterday. The bed, the furniture, even the scent of the room—it all felt foreign. Her eyes dropped to the handbag on the armchair beside the bed. She reached for it,

Isabelle looked at herself in the mirror. The reflection staring back at her wore soft blue jeans and a cream-colored blouse—finally something other than a hospital gown after weeks. It should’ve made her feel better. It didn’t.She forced a small smile and stepped out of the bathroom. Richard was seated on the couch in the hospital room, scrolling through his phone. He immediately stood up when he saw her."Hey, shall we go?" he asked, eyes lighting up.Isabelle hesitated. "Uhm, are you done with my whole discharge process?"Richard nodded confidently. "Yeah, I am. Why?"She frowned, feigning a pained expression. "Babe, I think I'm still having headaches. Can you tell the doctor and see if I can get some medicine from the pharmacy?"Richard's smile didn't falter. "Pain? I can't allow that. Let's go together, so you can explain to him well."She shook her head, pressing her fingers to her temple. "I'm a bit tired. I didn’t get much sleep last night. Can you go alone? I’ll wait here. J

Richard and Isabelle returned to the room, Richard still holding her protectively, like she would disappeare into Liam's arms if he doesn't hold her that way. Estella was in the room, pacing around, waiting for them. As soon as they entered, she sighed." When did you go out?! Do you have any idea how hard it was to look for you? I almost made a fool out of myself with the nurses." Estella shouted.Isabelle smiled slightly. " I told you I was stepped out for some air, you probably didn't hear me because you were so focused on your phone."Estella rolled her eyes. " If I didn't give you permission, you weren't supposed to step out! Isn't that how it works?"" Hey!" Richard shouted at Estella. " Don't talk to her that way. Because she's sick and you're watching over her for a while doesn't mean you're older or better. Know your place." He said with a stern expression on his face.Estella went quiet for a while before apologizing to Isabelle for speaking to her harshly, not that she me

Liam left Anderson Corporation the moment he got the information from Sarah. His heart pounded as he drove, thoughts racing. He had to see it with his own eyes—was Isabelle really there? Was she alive? Was she okay?He parked his car hastily and rushed into the hospital, bypassing the reception area entirely. There was no point in stopping there. Richard must have already instructed the staff to give no information about Isabelle and to deny her any visitors. So, instead of asking the nurses, Liam decided to observe. If he had to search every floor, every hallway, he would. But deep down, he had a feeling—something told him he would find her soon.He stood in front of the elevator, eyes fixed on the numbers descending. The doors slid open with a soft ding. Inside, a woman stood. She wore a hospital gown, her hair flowing freely over her shoulders, her face pale but serene. She walked past him without even a glance.Liam froze. His eyes widened in disbelief. That was her. Isabelle. The

One Week Later. Sarah moved around nervously in the living room. She had heard Estella on the call with someone, telling that person that she'd be there soon and will make it there quietly. Sarah had been talking to Liam the past week. He informed her that he couldn't find Isabelle and that she has left Meadow Central Hospital for Richard's home and Sarah promised to try and get the address from Estella, whether by following her or putting a tracker on her. Isabelle must be found by all means. She also heard that tracking Marcus didn't give them any leads on Isabelle's whereabouts. Marcus just went from Polaris Tech to his house. They also found out that it was only Marcus staying in the house. They had no choice but to trust Sarah to get information from Estella, no matter the method she would use. An idea crossed Sarah's head and she quickly acted on it. She brought out her phone and called an Uber. Estella was wary of her so she couldn't follow behind her. The taxi driver arr

Marcus walked cooly to the receptionist, he placed a hand on the counter and asked." Hi, there. Is Isabelle and her husband still around here?" The nurse looked at him and smiled. " Yes, they are. In fact, Miss Isabelle's friends just left here after asking about her."Marcus's eyes widened in shock. " Friends? What friends?" He shouted. The nurse started getting nervous as he raised his voice. "Uhm... Two men. They said they could not reach her and I..." " You gave them her room number?" Marcus interrupted. " Are you just stupid or do you not like your job? Is this how you all behave here? Sharing a patient information to strangers." " I'm so sorry sir. They said they were her friends and they seemed desperate so I helped them. I didn't know... I'm so sorry." The nurse trembled in fear." Shut your mouth and call the room real quick. Ask him to pull Isabelle out of that room quickly. Tell him that someone is here for her."The nurse scrambled to the telephone and quickly dialed t

Liam parked the car and got out quickly without hesitation. Ethan followed, trying hard to keep up with him. They entered the big hospital and went to the reception area." Good morning. I'm here to see a patient that was brought here on the day of the mass accident." Liam said immediately to the lady on duty. She looked at Liam and hesitated before answering. "Is this person related to you?" Liam nodded quickly. "Yes, she is. I've been looking for her for a while now." "Alright. Name please?" The lady said, her fingers on the keyboard, ready to type in her name."Isabelle Rivers" Liam replied impatiently. The nurse looked up at the mention of her name. It was a familiar name. " Ah... The lady that was in the major accident? I see why you haven't been able to reach her. She just woke up after surgery. But she's getting special treatment in the VIP ward. All thanks to her husband." Sarah returned to her room quietly. When she reached, she quickly locked the door. Her legs felt weak after and she fell to the floor. "Isabelle got into an accident." She repeated the words she heard Estella saying while she was on a call.Sarah was going to the kitchen when she overheard Estella on the call talking about something important. She didn't expect it'll be news about Isabelle's accident. Sarah was extremely worried. She had received calls from Liam, he asked if she had any idea where she was or where she could have gone or if Estella was being suspicious and all but she couldn't give him the answer he wanted. Isabelle didn't come back to him, not because of their break up but because she couldn't." But who was on the other side of the line and why did the person want Estella to keep it from me? Should I just ask Estella straight. What if they're harming Isabelle somewhere." Sarah muttered to herself, her worry and concern growing by the second. She continued. "I shoul
