Tatum-
We all met in my office after we have all had some time to calm down. Brook hasn’t so much as looked at me since we all made our way into the packhouse. Now we were all sitting around in the office, but no one was saying anything.
I was sitting in my office chair, Eric was leaning against the wall behind the desk, Ryan and Jarod were both sitting in the chairs across from the desk, while Brook was standing against the wall on the furthest side of the office. Still, she refused to look at me. I couldn’t even get through to her through the link.
The silence in the office continued to drag on to the point it was starting to become uncomfortable. Looking between both Ryan and Jarod, neither of them seemed to be in a hurry to start explaining what was going on. I could hear Eric behind me starting to get restless as he kept moving around.
“Are they waiting for something? Should we get the conversation moving or give them more time?&rdq
Brooklyn- I couldn’t believe it. My father was alive. Not only was he alive, but the hunters had him. Just when I thought things couldn’t become more complicated, I was proven wrong. With everything that is happening, was getting my father away from the hunters even an option? There was no telling where they were even keeping him. If it weren’t for the fact that the hunter had said that they needed me to get him to talk, I wouldn’t even know if he was still alive after all these years. What have they even been doing with him for the past thirteen years? “Why didn’t you tell me any of this sooner?” I heard Jarod ask, but my mind was still focused on what I had just heard. In one night, my entire world has been turned upside down. Even though I was still upset with Tate, I needed him close to me right now. Standing from the desk, I moved around the desk. He gave me a look, but I didn’t feel like deciphering it at the moment. When I sat down on h
Brooklyn-It has been nearly a month since my entire life has changed drastically. My uncle and I have become closer. I was able to learn a lot about him and my father. Tate and I have gotten past our issue after the way he reacted with the hunters.I even found out that the reason for him reacting had nothing to do with what I had thought. Apparently, his instincts to protect me had what had kicked him into gear. He had told me that avenging his first mate is no longer his priority. He wants to protect me, avenging Leslie would just be a bonus. We have been planning things to get my father back, which I think we have a good plan so far. We have even been able to reach the hunter. We found out the hunter’s name was Shane. It took less convincing than any of us thought was necessary to get him to agree to meet up for an exchange. It gave me a sense of foreboding though, like he was planning to pull a fast one on us. Thankfully I wasn’t the only
Brooklyn-Standing in the middle of the warehouse, I was wondering if Shane was even going to show. It has been roughly twenty minutes since we arrived and still no sign of him. Wonder if he caught onto our plan somehow and turned around. If that was the case, I wasn’t sure how to get him to release my father.I didn’t think it was a perfect plan, but I didn’t think it would go wrong before it even started. Even Tate was growing impatient. Even with him standing a few feet away, I could feel the tension rolling off him in waves. We have been communicating nonstop through our mate link, he was starting to get concerned as well.Shane should have been here by now. In fact, he should have arrived well before us from what Eric was saying. He was spotted only a few miles out, by one of the guards, before we arrived. I started fidgeting with the nail on my thumbs, trying to distract myself.“Stop.” Tate spoke through the link.
Tatum-The moment Shane put his hands on Brook and pulled her to him, it took everything in me not to react. Every tiny molecule inside of my body wanted to tear into Shane like a wild animal. The last time I let myself be overcome with my emotions, I got her hurt and it could have been so much worse. I couldn’t afford to let something happen now.“If that is all, we will be on our way.” I said to Shane. As much as I hated the idea, I had to leave with Brook’s father. The quicker I got him out of here, the sooner I could get back to getting her back. I still didn’t feel right about her being used as bait. We had the place surrounded, but that didn’t mean that he couldn’t get away with her.If he got her out of here, I wasn’t sure how long it would take to get her back, not that I would ever stop trying. I just spent over three years searching for him and his hideout, I couldn’t let him get very far. I
Brooklyn- “Just hang tight, I am working on a few things.” Tate’s voice rung through my head like a melody, calming me instantly. “What is going on?” I asked, not sure of much at this point. Other than hearing what Tate and my father were saying, I didn’t know what was going on. On the surface, it looks as if everything was going wrong. I knew I had a feeling things were not going to go as we planned. It had been too easy, but how bad were things really? Just by looking at Tate, I could see a lot was going on in his head. We had all agreed that other than Tate, no one was to link with me, that way I could continue to act the part I was supposed to be playing. Admittingly it wasn’t that hard, but if I was being honest, I wasn’t entirely acting. I was scared beyond belief. From the moment my father hit Tate, everything changed. “We have more hunters and wolves coming at us from all sides. We are going to try to get them to come inside and trap t
Brooklyn-When I finally reached Tate, he immediately grabbed me and pulled me to him. I had to clench my jaw to keep myself from screaming out, from the sudden movement it caused me. Twisting my leg slightly, I gazed down and found a blade embedded into my thigh.Reaching down, I yanked it out as quickly as I could. I felt myself become light-headed from the rush of pain and the blood loss, but it quickly faded. I have been hurt before, but it almost felt as if just being in Tate’s arms, helped ease the pain.It was as if the pain just completely subsided. I was just about to drop the blade when I thought better of it and decided to use it as a weapon. In all the time I have trained, I have yet to be trained with any form of weapon, but I had no doubt I could handle a knife. After all, I used them plenty in the kitchen, so it couldn’t be that difficult.“Are you okay?” I heard Tate ask, his breath hot against the side of my neck.
Tatum-No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t get close enough to Shane to take him out. One after another wolves and hunters alike kept me away from Shane. Every time I got a glimpse of him he was standing back, just watching. It almost seemed as if he were amused by this.I just needed a small break from others attacking me, just long enough to take a break in the chaos to get to him. Every time I thought I had time to make my way towards him, I would get slammed again by someone else. I think it was time to get the ones we had hidden in the warehouse to join. While we were making waves in our attacks and knocking others out, we would probably get further if we brought more in. It would also allow me to get to Shane without being interrupted. So far it looked as if we were winning, only losing a few in the process.“It is time.” I spoke through the link, connecting to all the warriors hidden away.In just a matter of seconds and
Brooklyn-It was like a switch inside of me just flipped. I felt different, since the moment I took Chad’s heart out of his chest. If I would have known I was going to feel like this, I would have done it long ago. I don’t know why I had hesitated before, but this time when the time came to take his life, I had done so without blinking. Now I felt stronger, surer of myself and what I was capable of. It was as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Standing here with Tate, I just wanted to end all of this with him. There was nowhere I would rather be than right here beside him as we put an end to our past and start living for our future.“I no longer care if you live or die. If what you say is true, then I have no use for any of you. You will all die today.” Shane spoke.Shane was the first one to move, running at Tate and me with a speed that was almost equal to mine. Without time to consider my next move, I quickly moved ou
