"Nick..." I called out to him as he had just returned to my room. Nick had changed into pajama pants and a t-shirt belonging to Greg. He turned towards me, raising an eyebrow with a questioning look.

"Are you going to sleep here?" I asked, looking at him and then at my bed.

Nick placed his phone on the small table next to my bed and turned back to me. "Do you mind?"

I shook my head and shrugged. "Greg never used his apartment, and now you neither. So why did you guys rent it?"

"Greg needed a place for his things." Nick sat on my bed, still looking at me. It felt strange seeing him in my room—or on my bed. He didn't seem to fit with my lilac-colored bed cover. Not to mention, I was used to seeing him in his formal suits; seeing him in pajamas and a casual t-shirt made me—

"Eleanor," he interrupted, "are you going to stand there staring at me all night or join me?" He pulled a corner of his mouth up, forming a slight smile. His messy brown hair framed his handsome face. I returned the smile and walked over to my bed.

"What do you mean you have to leave now?" My orange juice glass stopped just before touching my lips. I glanced at the kitchen clock briefly before turning back to Nick, who was already back in his work attire, a light blue shirt minus the tie, one hand carrying his jacket.

While I was still in my pajamas.

I had woken up half an hour earlier than usual this morning, Nick was still asleep when I left the room. But now he was standing in front of me, saying he had to return to Manhattan.

I lowered both corners of my mouth. "Are you serious? But it's the weekend, Nick. You only arrived last night." From the corner of my eye, I could see Lana and Greg watching us alternately, both standing in front of the kitchen counter in silence.

"Eleanor..." Nick looked at me patiently, as if he were trying to talk to a child. He slightly reminded me of Oliver.

"Yeah, whatever." I averted my gaze from him, finishing my orange juice.

"Eleanor, I didn't mean—"

"I understand." I cut him off, trying to smile. "You're busy."

"I'll be back." He muttered before kissing my cheek and saying goodbye to Lana and Greg.

He had arrived in San Francisco less than 24 hours ago; we had barely spent any time together, mostly just sleeping. If I had known he was going to leave so soon, I might not have wasted my time sleeping last night.

The next day, my mood hadn't improved. Greg and Lana invited me to lunch after seeing me spend the whole week of my vacation in front of the TV. Nick sent a short message this morning, just letting me know he would stay for two nights when he visited me again next week.

Greg chose a restaurant close to Lana's office. He had to ask the waiter for an extra seat for me because he had originally booked the table for two.

Just like Nick, Greg liked fine dining restaurants. He chose the same restaurant as when Nick came to San Francisco a few months ago. I frowned as Greg smiled at me.

"What?" I asked, not too kindly, after sitting at our table. Lana glanced up from her menu briefly before continuing to read it.

"Nothing. You and Nick really are alike." His smile widened, showing his dimples. Greg's slightly messy black hair had grown about an inch longer, almost touching the collar of his shirt.

"What do you mean?" Both corners of my mouth turned further downward.

"Nick sounded just as grumpy as you this morning when we were talking."

"He called you?" I asked, disbelieving. Nick only sent me a short message!

"Yeah, he wanted to talk to you, but you seemed really angry this morning... So I told him you were still asleep." He answered casually. His blue eyes looked at me as if I were something funny to him. I glanced briefly at the salt and pepper shakers in the middle of the table, briefly wanting to throw them at him. I sighed and read the menu in front of me briefly, suddenly not feeling hungry anymore.

"Hey, Ella... He's your boss, right? Mr. LeBlanc?" Lana's question made me shift my gaze from the menu. Both of my eyes followed Lana's gaze, and she was right, Mr. LeBlanc was leaving the restaurant with Ellie. They didn't see me because our table was far from the door, and the restaurant was quite full.

"Yeah, the one next to him is his girlfriend. Ellie." I replied, looking back at the menu. Lana remained silent for a moment before speaking again, "He looks a lot like you."

"Huh?" I mumbled without taking my eyes off the menu, "He just has the same height and hair color as me."

"Well, from this distance, he looks a lot like you."

I snorted at her, "You should see him up close during Wednesday's lunch, Lana."

We ordered the lunch special and a 7-year-old bottle of wine. Greg still managed to annoy me with his wide smile, and Lana kept comparing me to my boss's girlfriend. She thought Mr. LeBlanc still had feelings for me because Ellie looked so much like me. I had to change the topic of conversation three times before Lana actually forgot about Mr. LeBlanc and Ellie.

Dessert arrived while Lana was in the restroom. I ordered a plate of molten cake with peach ice cream and a cup of Earl Grey. Greg ordered blueberry pavlova and an espresso, while Lana didn't order anything at all. The sound of piano tinkling and the murmurs of people talking around us filled the silence between us.

"You know... you could visit Manhattan if you really want to see him." Greg looked at me while sipping his espresso.

"Why does Nick have to stay in Manhattan while you're here?" I asked, annoyed.

"Because Nick still has a Leech haunting him, and I don't." He replied shortly. My dessert spoon sliced through the top of the molten cake, causing the chocolate to ooze out, then I scooped up the top.

"But Nick is stronger than his Leech, why hide like this?" Greg shrugged, answering me.

"Nick is stronger than his Leech, but you're not, Eleanor."

I furrowed my brow, then Greg continued, "You are human. If that Leech wants to destroy Nick, you are the perfect prey for him. He has been waiting a long time for moments like this."

The molten cake I swallowed felt stuck in my throat. "So, this Leech is after me."

"I don't know, but that's the best scenario so far." He shrugged in response.

"Then... if the Leech succeeds in hurting me, what will happen?"

Greg snorted, his eyes looking at me with a slightly annoyed expression. "You forgot about me?"

"What?" I blinked at him, a little confused.

"If he wants to hurt you, Eleanor, he has to get through me first."

We were silent for a few moments, then all the recent events started to make more sense in my head. "Wait... did Nick ask you to stay here?" I asked with a bit of venom. Greg had mentioned before that Nick was planning something. Lana and Greg? So, was all of this part of his plan? My mind went back to when Lana and Greg met in the hotel lobby a month and a half ago, then when I visited his house... my stomach felt a little queasy. Had he planned all of this?

"What do you mean, me and Lana?" Greg asked, a slight frown on his face.

Lana... she seemed happier lately. What if she knew Greg was just pretending with her? I didn't want to imagine it at all. "You and Lana... Does she know?"

"Know what?"

"All of this... you're just pretending with her, right? To protect me from the Leech." Oh, damn. I didn't want Lana to get dragged into this.

Greg put his cup of espresso down and looked at me with a very serious expression, which made me almost believe him. Almost.

"I'm not pretending, Eleanor." He said seriously.

"I don't want to involve Lana in this, okay? She seems... really in love with you." I said, trying to sound calm. "You should stay away from her before it's too late, Greg. And you better not hurt her when you distance yourself; I'll help you."

"Help me with what?" Greg's voice was as serious as his expression.

"Help you with the problems in your company. I've helped you once when auditing your company."

Greg didn't help me answer; he just stared at his espresso cup with a serious expression. Lana took Greg's untouched dessert plate and began eating. "So, you're going to help audit his company again. Oh, I have to stop by the office after this; my boss lost the audit data for the company I was working on. He just called me." Lana stabbed her fork into the pavlova, breaking it, and sighed. Her beautiful face looked a bit pouty.

"Okay, we'll wait." I replied, feeling relieved that our conversation had changed. Besides, Greg and I still had a lot to talk about, so this was a good opportunity.

"No, no need. I'm sure he'll keep me all afternoon; you guys go ahead." She glanced at me and then at Greg, "Don't fight when I'm not around, okay?"

I snorted at her request. Well, we always fought when we were alone, Greg always managed to annoy me. It was not my fault at all.

Greg replied to Lana with a small smile, all the annoyance that was visible in his eyes before disappeared, replaced by another expression. I averted my gaze from them and reached for my phone in my pocket. Nick hadn't replied to my last message I sent 2 hours ago; I swallowed a little sadness that suddenly appeared.

After paying the bill, we parted ways with Lana in front of the restaurant. Lana headed to her office, while Greg and I headed to his car. We walked in silence until we got into the car; I fastened my seatbelt and looked out the window. Greg wore his sunglasses to shield his eyes from the afternoon sun, glancing at me occasionally. I tried to ignore him throughout the journey until I couldn't take it anymore.

"What, Greg?" I asked, pulling both corners of my mouth down.

"I..." He replied without taking his eyes off the road. "I just want you to know I'm not playing with Lana." He added with a serious tone.

"And I just want you to know I'll hunt you down if you hurt Lana." I muttered, trying to focus on the road. Suddenly, I couldn't hear my own voice over the buzzing sound in my head. Then I saw a sharp piece of metal covered in Greg's blood... protruding from Greg's neck.

    I almost couldn't breathe.The heavy footsteps were getting closer, and I held onto my phone tighter. I hoped it would slow down the pounding of my heart too."If He finds you..." Nick's voice sounded almost growling, "Run."I wanted to answer, but I bit my lip hard to stop myself. I wanted to ask where He was, I just wanted to hear His voice speaking. Anything to lessen the fear gripping me right now. I pushed my body into the corner of the cube, into the darker part. I hid myself under the table, barely visible. The only way He would know my hiding place was by checking each cube on this floor one by one."Alice... you take the lift. I'll check the emergency stairs," Nick's slightly out-of-breath voice sounded again, it seemed like He was running. A little relief eased my fear."El—Ella?"My heart almost stopped when I heard the voice echoing on this floor."Ella, I know you're here..." He repeated, but His voice sounded scared."Ella, please...     When I woke up, I found myself in the same place as before, lying on the floor of a room covered with carpet. However, the intense pain that had almost killed me was gone, as was the burning sensation I had felt before. I couldn't feel anything, but I also couldn't move my body. The only thing I could move was my eyelids as I blinked.Another uncomfortable issue I faced was that my throat felt extremely dry. It was like I had just eaten a bowl of hot, coarse sand.     Nicholas Shaw's POVEleanor welcomed my hand, though her gaze still seemed hesitant. I smiled at her to ease her nervousness, her amber eyes widening as she looked at me. For the umpteenth time since being with her, I couldn't believe my luck.She is mine. Almost. But after I've dealt with Alastair, she'll truly be mine. Alastair will pay for what he's done, slowly and painfully. But right now, I don't want to think about it, not when Eleanor is in my arms like this."Eleanor." Even her name sounded perfect on my lips. She responded with a single blink, her amber eyes transitioning from dark to brighter. How could I be this lucky?"You just have to lean into my neck, and your instincts will guide you." Her gaze shifted to my neck; I knew how painful the burning sensation could be. A new vampire typically required 5 liters of fresh blood when they first turned, and unexpectedly, Eleanor had been able to resist it this whole time. But still, I didn't want to make her suffer any longer;

The burning sensation in my throat woke me up in the middle of darkness. I pulled the blanket covering my body and got out of bed. Even though there was almost no light illuminating this place, I could still see clearly.Nick was not beside me. A slight panic interrupted this burning sensation. I swallowed my saliva and walked towards the door; maybe Nick was in the living room. Would I drink his blood again? My memory of his blood filling my throat a few hours ago intensified this burning sensation, but a moment later, a feeling of disgust followed that memory.Nick's blood... didn't feel like blood at all. It tasted like the most enjoyable thing that had ever touched my tongue. Hearing his heartbeat as his thick, warm blood saturated my throat, I had never felt such a good feeling before. But after I finished, Nick seemed to keep his distance from me. He even tried to get away from me as quickly as possible. Was he angry because I took too much of his blood? I swallowed my saliva ag

There are several things that have changed in my life since becoming a Leech.First, of course, is blood. I can no longer smell the nauseating metallic scent of blood; instead, human food has become repulsive to me. Nick told me that after a few weeks, my appetite would return to normal, but with the addition of blood intake. Then, all my senses, from smell to hearing, have become sharper. I just realized that every person has their own unique smell, and to me, humans smell like... food. I try to hide my disgust and I was surprised to find myself wanting to approach the room service attendant who was cleaning our room. The blood coming directly from the source was more tempting than bottled blood.Again, Nick said I just needed to get used to it.He taught me a few things over the past two days, like how to hide my fangs and how to suppress my anger so that my eyes wouldn't change. A Volder's eyes would turn black when angry, as I had seen on Nick a few months ago. Meanwhile, a Leech'

My entire body tensed when I heard it.Right after Greg told me, Nick came out of the room. His dark brown hair was still half wet, he was wearing black pants and a white shirt. One of his hands was carrying his black suit. He looked up and gave me a small smile, "You guys aren't done yet?"I could hear Greg calling my name from the phone, but I didn't answer. Nick's smile faded as he walked towards me, "Eleanor, what's wrong?" He put his suit on the pantry table before putting his hands on my waist. My body jolted slightly when he touched me, causing the corners of his mouth to turn down."Nothing." I quickly answered, not returning his hug."Did Greg make you angry again?" He released his hug and took his phone from my hand to talk to Greg. My eyes stared at his broad chest, which was half a meter away from me, but my mind was still fixed on Greg's last sentence. So, I took a night bus heading to California. Greg had already booked a plane ticket in my name to Washington DC, just to divert Nick's attention for a while. I also left some clues indicating that I would go to Washington.I hug my backpack, which contains some clothes and two bottles of blood. Everything happened so quickly. The sound of the bell woke me up from sleep, and I felt the bed move as Nick got up. My heart felt like it leaped in my chest when the sound of shattered glass was heard again; in the darkness, I got off the bed and put on my sleeping coat."I will kill you if you touch her!" Nick's threat made me slow down my steps, my heart pounding hard as I opened the bedroom door. Nick stood with his back to me, his body tense, wearing only his pajama pants. But a strong killing aura emanated from his body, making the fine hairs on my body stand on end. He clenched his fists tightly, and my breath caught as I saw the shards of glass and fresh blood flowing from the palm of his hand."Mr. Shaw, we will only ask once.

But Nicholas sees it differently, and he will always see Alastair as a threat." Alice smiled wryly at the expression on my face. My eyes opened wide."Lana?" I murmured, looking at her standing in front of Nick, her hands clenched tightly. Greg stood not far from her. "What are you doing to Ella?" She sounded somewhat hysterical as she asked Nick, who seemed too surprised to answer."I'm taking her home," he said, walking past the frozen Nick. Lana's blue eyes looked very angry... and they were focused on me. But just a few steps later, Nick quickly turned around and grabbed Lana's hand to stop her. The next moment, Greg grabbed Nick's arm. "Let go of her," Greg's voice made the fine hairs on my back stand up."You can't take her back," Nick completely ignored Greg's warning, his gaze fixed on Lana. The three of them looked ridiculous in their tug-of-war. Although I knew the atmosphere in the room had become tense, I couldn't help but stifle a small laugh. My mood had drastically changed upon seeing the three of them. I guess this is one of the effects of pregnancy."Of course, I can," Lana retorted sharply bef

When Nick said "home," I thought he would take me to his home where he lived with Greg. But his car turned towards a building I knew very well. I didn't ask until we stopped in the basement parking. Perhaps Nick planned to bring some of his work home; I could imagine how long it had been since he worked. "I'll wait here." I said as he opened my door."You'll be waiting here overnight, Eleanor." Nick lifted the corner of his mouth. He looked messy yet handsome at the same time. His jawline with stubble and messy hair contrasted with his usually neat appearance, although his eyes still looked as serious as ever.I wanted to kiss him."Eleanor?" He raised both his eyebrows, waiting for me to get out. As I stepped out, I wondered how many women like me had fallen for his charm. No, I don't think Nick ever intentionally flirted with women. Greg was more likely; the two brothers were like polar opposites. Nick led me to a smaller basement lift and took out a black card. I only then realized

My gaze was fixed on the sink in the pantry. Dark red thick liquid clung to some of its white ceramic tiles, then my eyes shifted to the bottle in my hand. This was the third time I tried to drink the blood Greg brought, and the third time I vomited it back up. Was this blood expired?I placed the bottle on the counter and turned on the sink faucet to wash away all the blood that stuck to the tiles. I rubbed my stomach while reaching for the phone Greg had given me earlier, then sent a short message about the blood supply he provided before returning to bed. I knew the early stages of pregnancy were very risky, at least for humans, so I had to request a fresh blood supply as soon as possible, even though I wasn't feeling very hungry yet. Alastair's blood was still enough for a few hours, or more. I closed my eyes as sleepiness crept in. Where was Nick now? Was he looking for me?
