“What are you thinking about?” Damien’s question took Siena back from her drifted mind. They were sitting in a limousine driving them to La Paradise Hotel.
“Oh, nothing, I’m just –"
“Are you nervous?”
Siena bit her bottom lip. “Yes, a little bit nervous….”
Damien stretched his right hand, took Siena’s hands and held them. “Don’t be nervous, you’re a brave girl. Besides, you look so wonderful tonight,” he praised Siena, who was wearing a cherry red midi dress with off-shoulder model.
The dress clung to her body in all the right places, showing her beautiful figure, making Damien unable to turn his gaze away.
Siena found it hard to respond. But something in Damien’s warm touch made her heart skip a beat. He was such a nice person, willing to accompany her to the party, even though it was not part of his duty as a lawyer.
“We have arrived, Mister Lambert and Miss Mori…,” Fidel, the driver, told them.
Siena had guessed from the beginning that the party would be attended by many people whom she did not even know, and … the journalists! Well, she was right! A group of news hunters were waiting outside the main entrance, welcoming the guests every time they stepped out from their cars.
But to her relief, there were more security guards. They formed a solid line preventing the journalists from approaching the guests.
“Walk with me, Siena….” Damien seemed to understand her feeling. He held out his hand for Siena to grasp, flashing a pleasant and calming smile.
When they both stepped out from the limousine, flashlight from dozens of cameras greeted them, capturing every moment. Siena’s eyes were blurred by the dazzling light. Fortunately, Damien kept on holding her hands, leading her across the red carpet into the building.
In the main lobby, they were welcomed by the managers and staff of the hotel. Since Siena was the heiress of all Adalfo’s companies, she was also the chief executive of all the staff now.
“Welcome, Miss Siena Mori…,” a baldheaded man with the glasses greeted. “I’m Rudolf Nash, the General Manager of La Paradise Hotel.”
“Good evening, Mister Nash, pleasure to meet you….”
Siena could not count anymore how many staff had shaken her hands, and how many times she repeated the similar words.
‘Grandpa, you should regret now, leaving me all your companies, while I’m incapable of doing anything,’ she complained silently in her thoughts, feeling inferior.
In fact, all Adalfo’s companies had been running well without her interference, because Adalfo had a group of great managers and staff.
Finally the introduction session was over. Damien led Siena to the buffet table.
“Now, let’s have something to eat. No need to think about anything else,” Damien spoke.
“Oh, thank God! I’m so thirsty….”
Siena quickly grabbed a glass of red-colored liquid on the beverages table. She took a sip, but the next second, she frowned and coughed.
“What’s this?” she screamed. “It tastes so weird…!”
Damien chuckled. “Don’t tell me that you have never tasted red wine…!”
Siena dropped her jaw, looking at the glass in her hand. “I thought it was soda….” Her cheeks blushed. She looked around her, hoping nobody was watching.
Damien was still laughing. “You better take this one, Siena, sparkling water…,” he said, replacing the glass in her hand with a glass of carbonated clear liquid.
“Sshh…. Oh, please, stop laughing at me…,” she lowered her voice so as not to attract any attention.
“You need to try taking wine. There will be more parties and events to attend in the future, Siena. You can’t refuse every time you’re served with wine,” Damien reminded. He seemed to enjoy the red-colored liquid so much.
Siena stunned. Was drinking wine included in her list of obligations as Adalfo’s heiress?
A pair of grayish blue eyes was watching Siena and Damien from afar. Siena’s red dress was not revealing, but it still showed the bare and smooth skin of her back, her shoulder, and also her beautiful legs. Her slim body was wrapped perfectly by the satin dress. Her oval face, her brown hair, and her beautiful figure….
Alfonso licked his lips. He must have had too much wine. There was something wrong with his mind! How on earth could he fantasize about Siena Mori?
Alfonso stepped toward Siena and Damien. “Good evening…. I’ve told you that we’ll see each other soon.”
Her heart pounded so hard in her chest as Siena turned around to the deep husky voice. The face of a man who gave her bad dreams!
She was astonished, how could a face look so attractive yet so annoying at the same time? That might be the reason why some said that the devil had two faces.
“You…!”
A wicked smile appeared on Alfonso’s face. “Hello, Siena…. And you must be Damien Lambert. What a great couple!” His voice sounded annoying.
“How can you get in this place?” Siena was quick to retort.
Alfonso laughed in a harsh voice. “Don’t forget, I’m Adalfo Garcia’s grandson. There’s no way the staff of this hotel dare to reject my coming,” he responded leisurely.
Siena clenched her teeth, feeling irritated and helpless at the same time. Irritated because Alfonso admitted himself as Adalfo’s grandson only after Adalfo had passed away. Helpless because Alfonso was right, she could not send him away from his own grandfather’s hotel!
“Looks like you both are getting along so well. Is coming to a party together included in a lawyer’s duty?” Alfonso was mocking Damien.
“Mister Adalfo asked me to assist Siena, the legal heiress of all his companies, to keep her away from any disturbance,” Damien replied, intentionally emphasizing the words ‘legal heiress’.
Both men with almost the same heights were staring at each other, Alfonso’s grayish blue eyes against Damien’s brown eyes.
“I’m suspicious there’s something more than just a client and a lawyer relationship between you. What a great coincidence that you happen to be the lawyer who wrote the testament on behalf of Adalfo, and Siena happens to be his heiress!” Alfonso kept on confronting Damien in an insulting way.
“The most important thing is what admitted legal by the law. It’s better than someone who admits himself as a grandson, but he didn’t even show his face on his grandfather’s funeral day!” It was Siena who retorted fiercely.
Alfonso narrowed his eyes, turning his gaze at Siena. Why was she always challenging him?
However, when their eyes locked, Alfonso could not help but be fascinated. Siena’s face looked so lovely like a porcelain doll glittering under the light. For few seconds, he was just lost for words.
“Alfonso…,” a soft voice called. Gloria suddenly stood beside Alfonso, holding his left hand. Gloria’s eyes travelled from Siena’s head down to her toes.
Siena returned the look at Gloria with a frown on her face. Who was this woman, Alfonso’s lover? The woman in the silver dress looked so glamorous and fascinating. Even if she called herself an actress, Siena would definitely believe her.
“Honey, I think it’s time for us to leave. The host is not friendly at all.” A taunting smile appeared on Gloria’s face.
“You’re right, Gloria, this isn’t the perfect time,” Alfonso responded. He turned his gaze back at Siena. “I come here to say hello to you, Siena…. Just so you know, I’ll never let you go….”
Alfonso’s last sentence sent chills down Siena’s spine. This was the second time he threatened her.
Alfonso showed a wide grin on his face. Then he held Gloria’s hand, turned around, and walked away from Siena and Damien. Siena had just realized she was holding her breath just now.
“Ignore him, Siena…. He did that on purpose just to mock you,” Damien said in a tender voice, laying his hand gently on Siena’s shoulder.
She looked into his eyes. Unlike Alfonso’s, the gaze from Damien’s eyes was always pure and warm for her.
“Thanks, Damien. I’m glad you’re here with me.”
Damien gave a reassuring smile. “Come on, let’s continue our party….”
Alfonso and Gloria stepped into a white Audi car. Alfonso drove the car quickly, leaving La Paradise Hotel. After silence reigned for a moment, Gloria turned her face to Alfonso who suddenly became voiceless. “So that was Siena Mori? She looked so different tonight. Huh! She must have spent old Adalfo’s money to afford for expensive cosmetics and glamorous dress. But still, she looked so old-fashioned, not worthy to be a billionaire,” Gloria taunted. Alfonso remained silent. He rubbed his stubbly chin with his right hand, trying to take Siena’s image out of his mind. “Honey Bear…,” Gloria started whining again. Alfonso reluctantly turned his face to his woman. “I saw the way you looked at Siena. You’re not drunk, are you? Don’t tell me that you find her beautiful….” Alfonso chuckle
Siena zipped her suitcase closed. Everything she needed was already in the suitcase. Now it was time to prepare her sling bag. All she needed were her purse, passport, private stuffs, and the photograph of Adalfo and her mother which she always brought anywhere with her. In two more hours, Adalfo’s private jet would fly her and Damien to Dubai. Suddenly she heard the sound of footsteps approaching, as if someone was running to her bedroom. Knock! Knock! Siena opened the door. “Lucio? What is it?” The loyal butler was standing in front of her. His face somehow looked pale and sweaty. “Miss Siena…,” he stuttered. She creased her brows. “What happen, Lucio?” “Mister Alfonso Garcia is waiting for you in the living room.” &nbs
Flashback: Two months ago. Siena walked in a hurry along the pavement crowded by pedestrians, and entered a café at her left side. The glass wall café was dominated by soft pastel colors. It was just seven thirty AM, but the café was already crowded by customers enjoying their breakfast. “Welcome to Cheers Café!” a friendly voice greeted. “Good morning, Brian! My order, please…,” Siena replied, flashing a smile to the barista standing behind the counter. The man with oriental look was smiling warmly, forming a soft crease near his eyes. His lean body was just a little bit taller than Siena. His black hair and black irises typical of Asian combined with his chubby face made the man look warm-hearted and friendly. “Green tea latte, less ice, ready to go. You’re late
Flashback: Two months ago. Siena arrived at a tenth floor building locating couple blocks from Cheers Café. Angels Daily office was on the eighth floor of the building. Though it was just a small company, but Siena really enjoyed her job here. She also made a good living. Well, not a luxurious living, but the satisfaction was more valuable than the amount of her salary. “Siena! Hold the door!” A scream was coming from outside, when Siena was already in the lift. Siena immediately pushed the ‘open’ button. A girl at her age ran hastily into the lift, with a backpack on her shoulders, a paper cup in her left hand, and a plastic folder in her right hand. It seemed like she was having a difficult time to bring all her goods. “Thanks, Siena Chan! You’re the best!” the girl greeted, chuckling.
Flashback: A month ago. CRAAACKK!! Alfonso Garcia smashed his own cellphone onto his desk violently. It was not shattered, but at least the screen would be cracked. He was not even bothered anymore. The pain was suffocating him. He felt as if his heart was burning. He had just finished reading the article on Angels Daily column, nothing else but the article about Adalfo Garcia’s life story, his grandfather. He could hardly believe it, why would Adalfo willingly reveal his life story on a media like that? It was just not his grandfather’s common behavior. What made Alfonso enraged the most was Adalfo’s honest confession about how his grandfather had become the reason behind his parents’ separation. This was Adalfo’s confession: “It was I who should be bl
Flashback: A week ago. A black limousine stopped in front of a luxurious house in Beverly Hills. Siena rushed out from the car. Adalfo sent his private driver to pick her up. He wanted to see her immediately. Heart pounding, Siena frantically ran to Adalfo’s bedroom. Lucio said Adalfo had been lying in his bed for the past two days. She knew Adalfo had coronary heart disease, and he had undergone the bypass surgery once. But his condition was getting worse lately. “Grandpa…,” Siena called out, standing in front of Adalfo’s room. Her heart was racing, her chest was moving up and down trying to breathe. Adalfo lay in a jumbo size bed in the middle of the large bedroom. He turned his gaze at Siena. “Hi, Siena…. Come…,” he requested in a weak voice.
The most challenging journey in your life is the journey to find yourself.*****Back to the present time.Siena was sitting with a somber face in Adalfo’s private jet. Alfonso was on another seat, not far from across her seat. But she knew his piercing eyes kept glancing at her several times from the moment they sat, as if he was scrutinizing her.Her cellphone suddenly rang. “Hi, Damien….”“Siena, what are you doing?!” Damien sounded panic. “You can’t go to Dubai with Alfonso! He’s dangerous! I’m heading to the airport now! You must wait for me! Don’t leave without me!” he instructed.Siena glimpsed at Alfonso. He was looking back at her with a mischievous smile on his face.“Damien, I’m sorry. I can’t expla
They had travelled more than half an hour from the glamorous city center of Dubai. Getting further, the environment somehow looked contrast. Instead of luxurious view, factories and simple houses dominated. The black Mercedes Benz stopped in front of a large and tall building, looking more like a simple apartment.“This is the House of Aman,” the driver from Adalfo Hotel informed.Siena turned her gaze out. The building was far from luxurious. It was almost similar to her previous rented apartment, simple and clean. But the barren, hot, and dusty environment surrounding made the building look bleak.Siena opened the car door. But Alfonso did not even move an inch.“You’re not coming?” Siena asked, frowning.“I’d better stay here. It’s too hot outside. Besides, I know there’s nothing worth enough here, just by catching a glimps
“What does it mean?” Siena’s brows knotted in confusion. “But today is not my birthday.”Ah, it had to be a code, Siena thought. Alfonso intentionally played a prank on her right on their wedding day!She searched for a pen and started to scribble on the paper. “My birthday is on September 17th. Probably it’s the key to shift the letters. Hmm, let me try.”She wrote down her answer on the paper.HVCPAQFKXDR17917917917ICLQHXGRGEY“That’s odd. It has no meaning!” Siena did a double take at the result. “Or… I should shift the letters to left, not to right!”She scribbled again on the paper.HVCPAQFKXDR17917917917GOTOTHEDOCK&n
“By the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride.”As soon as the pastor finished his sentences, Alfonso took Siena in his arms, caressed her cheeks blushing beautifully with the softest touch, and locked their lips in an affectionate kiss. All the guests were applauding and cheering for them.Everything ran according to Siena’s wish on her very special day. She did not wish for a luxurious party, expensive gifts, or fancy wedding dress like a Disney princess. All she wanted was to exchange their wedding vows faithfully and to have the people she loved around her.Once the wedding ceremony was over, Alfonso and Siena got hugs and kisses from Stefano, Carlo, as well as Irina who came all the way from Melbourne. Suddenly….“Siena Chan! Congratulations!” Who
Alfonso entered the bedroom with his face shining. Siena had changed into her nightgown and sat with her head leaning on the headboard. She turned her gaze at him instantly.“You look happy…. It seems like I don’t have to worry about anything you talked with Dad,” Siena said.Alfonso showed a wide grin on his face. “I have just got a Dad today.”Siena gasped. “Is that true? Dad has asked you to call him Dad?”Alfonso answered with a nod. “Yup!”“Oh, Alf, I’m so happy to hear that!” She opened her arms wide to hug Alfonso.Alfonso took a seat next to her and held her tight. “I can’t imagine I have a complete family now. I have a wife I love the most, a wise father, a freaky
For Alfonso, today had to be one of the most special days in his entire life. He had lost Siena for more than three months, struggling to survive with his broken heart, even enduring his life as if a zombie, his body was alive but his mind and his soul was empty. Those miserable days had passed. Now Siena returned to him. Even more than he dared to imagine, he got Siena back together with their unborn baby!“Don’t you want to eat, Cherry? I haven’t seen you eat anything tonight,” Alfonso spoke, looking worried.Tonight, their engagement party took place in the spacious back yard of the house. De Martini was a renowned and very important noble family in Siena City. No wonder the guests just kept on coming.Alfonso insisted that Siena sit on the sofa inside the gazebo throughout the party. He did not want her
“Good day, Mister Stefano.” Alfonso decided to greet first. “Carlo, Damien….” He nodded to the three of them.Stefano’s gaze fell on Alfonso’s and Siena’s hands holding each other. “Siena, you scared us to death. Did Alfonso hurt you?” Clearly Stefano ignored Alfonso’s greeting on purpose.“No, Dad. Alfonso will never hurt me,” Siena gave a quick reply. “Dad, please let us explain everything.”“I believe everything is as clear as crystal for me. You choose to hurt the heart of a very good man like Damien only to return to a man who has obviously hurt you before,” Stefano retorted in a stern voice.“Dad, it’s my mistake. Alfonso has never hurt me. I knew he had nothing to do with Gloria’s problem, but when he came
It took a moment for Alfonso’s words to sink in Siena’s mind. But all she could do was staring at him with her eyes wide opened and her jaw fell to the floor.“I beg you please don’t marry Damien. I want you to be mine only. Marry me, Cherry…,” Alfonso said it loud and clear, the words warming her heart.“Alf….”“Yes, Cherry?”“Did you realize you just asked me to marry you? In a locked garage where you have just kidnapped me right on the day I’m supposed to get engaged to Damien?”Alfonso seemed to ponder for a moment. “Well…, I could have done something more insane if you want me to. I could appear out of nowhere at your house and shout loudly to prevent Damien from putting the engagement ring on y
“You look as pretty as a picture, Siena,” said Viola, a woman around her forties who was Siena’s make-up artist today.Right now Siena was having her beauty treatment in a professional salon before her engagement party. At first she planned to do her own make-up, but Carlo insisted that she had to look special on this very special day.So she reluctantly went to the salon with Pino driving her here, while Stefano, Carlo, and Damien were preparing for tonight’s party in her house.“Don’t you think… it’s too much for me?” Siena hesitated as she saw her reflection in the mirror, since she never liked overdone make-up and preferred natural one.“Absolutely not. Your make-up is perfect for a very special occasion,” Viola convinced her with a smile.&
As Alfonso drove his car entering the front yard of his house, he felt suspicious seeing a white limousine car was parked at the public garden locating right across the house. Not many people would feel convenient to drive a limousine everywhere since it attracted too much attention. Who was the owner of the car, a Hollywood celebrity looking for attention on purpose?Alfonso strode into the house and came to a halt immediately as he scented an odd smell, the smell that reminded him of something familiar. He hurried his steps, his eyes searching everywhere until he finally saw what he had suspected before. Carlo was sitting in the family room of his house smoking cigar!“I believe it’s time for me to hire some bodyguards to keep my house safe. What do you think you are doing, barging into my house at your pleasure?” Alfonso sounded irritated.
Alfonso got out from his car. His gaze landed on Brian and Gloria sitting next to each other in front of their mobile coffee shop and staring at him with serious expression.“How are you doing, Alfonso?” Gloria greeted first, because Brian just remained silent.“Hi, Gloria. How are you and your baby doing?” Alfonso asked in return, standing in front of them.“We are good, though I feel I’m getting heavier day by day,” Gloria said and tittered at her own joke.“I think you seem more like a fashionable pregnant woman, Gloria,” Alfonso praised, but he glanced over at Brian. He said it only to give his support to Gloria without any intention to flatter. But he knew how possessive Brian could be. And he guessed it right, Brian’s expression cha
