Alessia sat in the den, her eyes unfocused as she stared out the window. Nicolai hovered nearby, his concerned gaze never leaving her. The news of Petr's death and Dmitri's disappearance had shaken them both, but Nicolai's constant presence was beginning to wear on her nerves.

She took a deep breath, forcing a small smile as she turned to him. "Nicolai, darling, why don't you go to your office? I'm sure there's work piling up."

He frowned, moving closer. "I don't want to leave you alone, my love. Not after everything that's happened."

"Really, I'll be fine. I know..."

Just then, Sergei appeared in the doorway, a stranger at his side. "Boss, Mikhail needs you to go over some business matters," Sergei said.

Nicolai hesitated, glancing between Alessia and the newcomers.

Sergei cleared his throat and spoke directly to Alessia. "Mikail is...an accountant. He's got some important, uh, figures to go over."

Nicolai paced the study, his fingers drumming on the table in front of him. The conversation with Sergei had been brief and to the point. Petr had been found, but no sign of Dmitri. Nicolai knew his brother's MO too well, and Petr's brutal murder only confirmed his involvement. He ran a hand across his face, feeling the weight of exhaustion settle on his shoulders. He'd been unable to focus on the financials Sergei needed him to review, his thoughts constantly drifting to Alessia. He was thankful that at least he knew she was safe under his roof. The door burst open with a bang, and Nicolai's head snapped up. His eyes widened in shock at the sight of the man standing in the doorway. He was drenched in blood, his usually crisp suit in tatters, and a deep gash ran along his forehead, marring his face with a bright red scar. Nicolai recognized him as one of his most seasoned guards, but he couldn't recall his name."What in

Alessia's heart pounded in her chest as the boat sped into the night, the cold wind whipping her hair across her face. She kept her eyes forward, refusing to show any fear in front of Dmitri and his henchman. She seethed with anger, both at her captors and the situation. She'd been so stupid! Nicolai had told her to stay in the house or take one of the guards with her, but she'd felt safe with all his men around the property. Obviously, she'd underestimated the danger that his brother posed. And that fueled her anger even more. How could they do this to Nicolai? He had done nothing but be born and been successful and according to what he'd told her, he'd spent years idolizing his older half-brother. A shiver ran up her spine at

The cabin was silent save for the thumping of her heart and her ragged breathing. Alessia's eyes darted around the room, taking in every detail that might help her escape. The window, of course, was out of reach, and the door was locked tight. Her eyes fell on the bed she was secured to and a glimmer of hope ignited. The frame was old and the welds holding the iron bars in place looked rusty. She tested the bonds securing her wrists, but they held fast, immovable. Still, there was a slight give when she pulled against them. Perhaps they hadn't been as careful as they should have been in securing her. She pulled and strained against the restraints, feeling the cool metal dig into her skin. A jolt of pain shot up her arms, and she hisse

Nicolai stood at his office window, the weight of Viktor's letter heavy in his pocket. The past weeks had brought revelations that shook his world, yet also cemented what he'd known in his heart - family was everything. Not just blood, but the bonds forged through loyalty...and even love.He turned as Alessia entered, her presence bringing light to the room as always. She moved to his side, fitting perfectly under his arm as they looked out over the city together."I heard the surgeon cleared you today," she said softly. "Your shoulder's fully healed.""Da," he replied, his hand moving to touch the spot where his brother's bullet had torn through flesh and muscle. It was not one hundred percent, still stiff and his strength wasn't completely back but it no longer pained him. The physical wound had healed, but the betrayal still burned."And Boris? Nicolai stood in the center of the war room, surrounded by his most trusted men. Sergei stood to his right, bearing a fresh scar along his jaw, a reminder of the recent skirmish with Dmitri's men. The air was thick with tension, the weight of their impending mission heavy on everyone's shoulders."Dmitri has crossed a line," Nicolai began, his voice steady and commanding. "His greed and ambition have led him to acquire chemical weapons, intending to use them against not just us, but innocent people as well."A collective murmur of disbelief and anger rippled through the room. The brotherhood had its dark sides, but the thought of using such deadly weapons against civilians was abhorrent even to the hardest of them."We have to stop him," Nicolai continued. "And we need to find these weapons before it's too late."Sergei stepped forward, laying out a map on the table. "Our informants have narrowed down the possible locations of the weapons to three warehouses in the industrial district.
