Gale and Ben had just got back from their adventure on Rotary Trails. That was a pleasant journey. They decided to stroll around the trails with bikes and were very happy as they enjoyed Golden's view.
The bridge was amazingly huge for a pedestrian bridge. Gale didn't remember anything when he was there, but there's a feeling inside his heart that made him feels warm. It's like his body was familiar with the surroundings, and he was in his element. Gale loves that bridge. He loves standing in the middle of it while looking at the stream. It calms him.
He believes there are lots of beautiful memories from that place. If only he could remember it...
When they got home, Gale doesn't feel quite satisfied with the outdoor activity despite the fact that he had already been outdoor since six in the morning. Ben said that he was crazy for not feeling tired as he automatically slumped to the couch the minute he stepped into his house. Gale only laughs it off.
After taking a quick shower to rid of the sweat and put on some clean clothes, Gale got out to the woods that starts expanding from the backyard. He felt so energized, and nature was calling him.
The ground was slippery because of the moss, and it was also steep. Gale wanders around slowly and aimlessly while trying to keep on walking straight so he wouldn't get lost.
It's been a peaceful five minutes since he enters the woods. Suddenly, he heard a sound that was like a scream. A moment later, a loud sob replaced the eerie quiet after the screaming.
Gale looked around as he tries to locate where the source of the sound came from. He followed the sound and was relieved when it got louder and louder until he saw two children – a boy and a girl. They were huddling together as the girl cry out loud. She grips the boy's hand so tightly. Even from this distance, Gale could note that there's something wrong.
Of course, there's something wrong.
What did they do in the middle of the woods without any adult around to look for them? And one of them is crying? They must have got lost on their way home.
Gale walked closer but careful not to startle the kids. The little boy notices him first, and his face was turning from panic to one of that relief but still full on alert.
As he got nearer, Gale could see the swelling on the boy's left shin.
A fracture? Gale can only hope it's not an open one. Gale noticed the boy's mouth moving, and he presumed that he was talking to the little girl. The wailing suddenly stopped as the little girl whips her head towards where Gale was walking.
She stood up, crouched again and picked up something from the ground. When Gale was only ten feet away, she pointed a thick stick that obviously too heavy for her to lift with one hand and on the other, she grips a rock that also too heavy for her.
"Stop!" Her voice cracked, but there's so much determination in it.
Gale stopped and raised his hands in surrender.
"Hey, I just want to help. I won't hurt you or your brother," Gale said calmly. He looked at the boy's leg and saw no sign of bleeding. Thank goodness.
"You are a stranger!" The girl said. "Mommy said if she's not around, I shouldn't believe a stranger!"
What a clever and obedient little girl to listen to her mommy even when she's not around. But in this situation, it only makes the situation worse.
"Where is your mommy then?" Gale started softly. "You see, I'm a doctor. I can tell that your brother broke his leg. All I want to do is to help you guys out of this woods and bring you to the hospital. And then after that, we can contact your parents, and you'll be home before you know it. How's that sound?"
The girl's face looked constricted. She frowned at Gale, but there's worry etching in her expression. Gale was sure she's not more than five years old, but somehow she understands the situation was dangerous. She was thinking, evident from how she scrunched her brows together. Her hands were trembling from the heaviness of the stick and rock she holds, and probably she was frightened too.
"But you're still a stranger." She said with a hiccup.
"Will you let me introduce myself so we won't be strangers anymore?" Gale suggested. The girl and the boy nodded their heads. "Okay, my name is Gabriel Blackwell. I'm going to turn twenty-nine in November, and I live in Toronto. I'm a doctor, but I am on vacation now. I stay here with my cousin, Ben. His house is just five minutes walk from here. He has a baby daughter named Dani, and his wife's name is Molly. And you are?"
"I'm Alex Brooks. I'm going to turn eight this year. I live on Alexander Drive. My mom named me after the street because she was on the street when her water broke." Gale chuckled. What a weird lady to name her son after a street because her water broke there. "And this is Julia. She's going to turn four. We shared the same birthday this weekend."
"Oh, happy early birthday, you two," Gale said sincerely, and he starts walking again to be closer with them. Julia – the little girl, finally drops the items she's been holding.
"I'm from Toronto too," she suddenly croaked.
Gale smiled at her. He extended his hand, and she took it. He shakes it a little, and then with his free hand, Gale cups her cheek.
"We could be neighbours," Gale said, and Julia only nodded. "Do you have any injury too that I should worry about? Is there anything hurt?" He asked to make sure.
"No, I didn't climb the tree like Alex." She said weakly. The poor girl was still in shock but she stands her ground when she thought Gale was a threat.
"I'm going to check on your brother now. Is that okay?" She nodded her head again.
Gale exhales, feeling relieved. He let go of Julia and hastily move to Alex who sat still against the tree.
"How much does it hurt?" Gale asked while he inspects the swell.
"It did hurt so much when I fell. I don't know now. I don't want to move it because I'm scared." Alex said, his voice slightly quivering.
Whatever it was that made Gale felt so energized today – he thanked it. Imagine if he decide not to wander the woods. What would happen with these kids?
"Why are you guys wandering the woods alone? Where are your parents?" Gale asked as he looked at Alex's face. He noticed there's a cut on his temple. It's not bleeding, but internal bleeding might occur if he fell from enough height that it can cause a fracture. "Is there anywhere else that hurt?"
"My head got cut, I guess. But I don't feel dizzy anymore now. So it's not hurt anymore, just a little sting." Alex said. That's good. Gale thought. "We were playing in our backyard. Everyone was busy. Dad works, Grampa is at the garage checking on his employees – he can fix cars, Mom teaching yoga at her studio, and Gran and Aunty are shopping for our birthday preparation. I insisted on staying at home with Julia because we want to watch cartoons instead of shopping. After all, it's boring. But then we get bored watching as well. So, we played in the backyard. But the backyard was boring too, and then Julia saw a squirrel on the tree, and we decided to follow it."
"Why did you climb the tree?" Gale asked again.
"I watch on YouTube with gramps that if you get lost in the woods, you can use a tall tree to look for your way back. We were lost, so I think I'd go climb this tree to see where our house is." Alex explained guiltily. "We shouldn't have left the house."
"What matters now is you already been found." Gale paused, and then after a while, he spoke again. "Okay, Alex... I'm going to pick you up. The sudden movement might make your leg hurt, is that okay?"
"Okay..." Alex replied.
"Julia, you hold on to my shirt here," Gale instructed her while pointing to the hem of his shirt and she nodded.
Gale crouched on the side of Alex's body and positioned his left hand on Alex's back. He looks at the boy after Gale lifted one leg that is okay into his arm and slowly lifted the broken one next. Alex hissed, and he made a strangled voice. Gale kept focusing on the leg, careful not to touch the swelling. When Gale glances at Alex's face, the boy's eyes were glistening with unshed tears.
Before standing up, Gale told Alex to breathe slowly. The boy did splendidly.
It seems like Alex holds himself from crying even though he was in pain. Then Gale realized that Alex kept looking at Julia that was so quiet. She waits patiently behind Gale while looking back at her brother's face. The siblings were worried about each other, and it made Gale's heart swell with fondness. He loves kids. Especially kids that behaved themselves so well like Alex and Julia.
"Ready?" Gale asked.
"Yes," Alex said meekly.
Standing up slowly, Gale watched the movement of Alex's injured leg. He then heard Alex makes a sound that tells him how painful the movement had caused.
"It's okay to cry if it's hurt, big guy," Gale assured Alex. The boy holds himself so much. Tears were already streaming down his face, but he resists letting out the sob, and it made his face red.
It was only then it registered in Gale's brain that the siblings' hair is red but with different shades. However, Julia's hair looks so much similar with...
Gale shook his head a little to get rid of his silly ideas. He focused back on the kids to make sure they were alright.
Alex swallowed hard and wiped his cheeks. "I'm fine, doc."
Gale nodded his head and smiled at Alex before he looks down at Julia. She was already clutching his shirt tightly. Her eyes were wide with worry while watching Alex's swelling leg dangling from the inside of Gale's elbow. When she averted her gaze towards Gale, he smiled reassuringly at her.
"Don't let go of my shirt, okay? If I walk too fast and you can't keep up, tell me, and I'll slow down." Julia nodded her head, and they start walking towards where Gale was coming from Ben's backyard.
Every once in a while, Gale would ask the kids if they were okay and both of them would answer either with a nod or 'yes, doc.'
By the time they reached the end of the trees. Molly's patio was the first that they saw.
Molly, just like usual, was reading her book on one of the chairs. The baby had fallen asleep with her dad, and this kind of free time was rare for Molly after she gave birth – she tends to use it to calm her mind and rest in her beloved patio without worrying that Dani will get mosquito bites. It's not even twelve. Molly had expected Gale to come back from the woods after twelve. But then she heard a rustling of bushes. Molly turned her head to look at the source of the sound. She was expecting to see a squirrel or any other wildlife that live inside that small woods. But instead, she saw Gale, and he was not alone.
"Oh my Lord. Gale?" Molly stood up and rushes toward Gale.
"Where's Ben?" Gale asked, ignoring Molly's worried face. He needs to bring the kids to the hospital.
"He's asleep with Dani," Molly said confusedly. "Gale, who are these children? Where are their parents? Why are you bringing them here? Oh-"
Molly stopped rambling when she saw the swelling on the boy's leg.
"We need to get to the hospital," Gale instructed, not wasting any time. "You drive."
"But, Ben-"
"Molly!" Gale interrupted harshly. "Focus! Ben and Dani are going to be alright. These kids might have internal injuries undetected that I didn't notice, and I don't want to waste any more time."
This was doctor mode Gale. Molly only ever seen it once, and at that time, Gale hasn't even graduated from med school yet. She shook her head to get a grip as the gear in her brain finally working.
Injured children.
If it's Dani, she would be devastated. These kids' parents will also feel devastated if something happens to them.
"Wait by my car. I'll go grab my keys and phone first." Molly ran inside.
Gale walks fast-paced towards the front yard. Julia was clutching his shirt and didn't make any complain as she runs to match his steps.
He felt bad. Julia must be tired. But if Gale is her dad, he would be proud of her for being so understanding in this kind of emergency.
Molly came a moment later with Ben in tow. He looked slightly disoriented behind her.
"We'll be back as soon as we can. Dani's milk just needs to be heating up, but I don't think she'll wake up for another hour. If you're hungry just eat whatever is on the fridge. Love you." She said to Ben before hopped down from the porch and runs towards the car.
She unlocks the car and helped Gale situated himself on the back seat, Alex on his lap. Then Molly closed the door and carried Julia towards the other side of the car. She opens the door and lifted the toddler to the baby seat. It's too small for her, and Molly was expecting some kind of a complaint or whining, but the girl kept her mouth shut. Julia even took the belt and tried to buckle it by herself in a hurry. Molly snapped out from her startle condition of how much the little girl was so well behaved. She helps Julia put on the seatbelt, and after she was sure Julia was comfortable enough, Molly gets to the driver's seat.
"Okay, let's go," Molly said anxiously and turned on the car. She drives not too fast but faster than she usually did.
"Alex, if the car's movement makes your leg hurt, you'll tell me. You understand?" Gale instructed the boy sternly but very kindly.
"Yes, doctor Gabriel."
"Just call me Gale." Gale smiled down at the boy. "Julia, are you okay? Is the seat too small for you?"
Julia shook her head. "I'm okay, doctor Gale. Alex, is it still hurt?" She asks worriedly at the older boy.
"Yes, but I'll be okay," Alex said while grinning and then winches when Molly makes a sudden turn.
"I'm sorry!" Molly exclaimed while looking at Alex from the rearview mirror. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, ma'am."
Gale caresses Alex's arm up and down to distract him from the pain.
"Boy, you look familiar to me. Are you related to Denise Brooks?" Molly suddenly asked.
Alex's face lit up. "That's my mom, ma'am. Do you know her?"
"No wonder! That's why you look so much like her. She's my yoga instructor." Molly smiled at the boy. "Gale, I know his mom. Once we get to the hospital, I can immediately call her."
Gale released a breath. Relief washed all over his body. He had been worried that it would be hard to contact these kids' parents. "Thank goodness! You both are lucky!" Gale looked at the kids' faces.
Julia looked so tired, and Gale stroked the hair that sticks to her forehead back to her head. She was sweating and so quiet. Gale looks at her worriedly. Suddenly the girl raised her hands to take his that still on her head and bring it to her lap. Gale grasped one of her hands and caressing the little knuckles with his thumb. When she looks up at him, Gale smiled, and she smiles back. That was the first time she smiles since they first met in the woods.
Somehow, he feels like looking at his own reflection and not Julia’s face.
Molly had been trying to contact Denise for the last fifteen minutes after they arrived at the hospital. She didn't pick up. Alex had been in the ER and got intensive care before he could get to the x-ray room. His leg might not be open fractured, but the discoloration gets worse on their way to the hospital makes Gale uneasy. Not to mention how bent Alex’s leg was. Alex was a champ. He holds himself from crying all the way to the hospital. However, the moment the curtain around his ER bed drawn close and Julia was in the waiting room with Molly, Alex finally cry. He holds Gale's hand tightly, and at that moment, he lets out the frustrating sob that he had buried so Julia wouldn't see him cry. Gale stroked Alex's head slowly and gently while the ER doctor examines his leg. "Thank you, doctor Gale." He said after the doctor finished his examination and left them alone. He was already stopped crying "No need to thank me." Gale said while
There were so many questions in his mind, but he couldn't utter a single word to say to her. The look of disappointment she threw at him a moment ago was still fresh in his mind. It was like she was expecting something unpleasant but what she got was even worse. Gale was 100% sure this woman is Ava Shelley. She knew him, and even if he doesn't remember anything, he knew her in some way. Like when he went to the bridge this morning. There was an aura that calls him, that claiming him that he was in the right place. But Avelyn's cold demeanour towards him makes Gale felt like his world crumbled down slowly. He needs to know what happened in the past that could lead them to become like this. His eyes were burning, and hot tears finally escaped from his lids. Gale tried to wipe them away before Avelyn or Julia could see them. He lowered his head and pinched the bridge of his nose to stop the tears, but it was useless. His eyes sting, and
It felt like a pivotal moment to be in this situation.Gale grips his knees anxiously as the car pulled over in front of the house that will be hosting a dinner as a thank you tribute for him.Ben and Molly didn't utter a single word in the whole ride. They gave Gale the time he needed to control his roaring emotion, and Gale felt thankful for their understanding.Suddenly, there's a soft knock on the passenger window. Gale jumped a little in his seat and look to the side to find a set of eyes squinting and peering inside the car.It was Julia. The car window was too high for her. Gale chuckled while seeing her struggling to stand on her toes. He pushed the button to lowered the window and stick his head out to meet her gaze.Julia was beaming at him."Excuse me, miss, it's not polite to peer into a stranger's car," Gale said in mock seriousness.Julia raised her hands and covered her mouth while giggling. "I'm sorry, mister. I
She stands at the entrance of the living room. She was looking at Gale and Alex with an unreadable expression. She flinched after a few seconds and bent down to pick up the phone she dropped."I'm sorry," she said with a tight smile. "The pie is ready.""Ave, come here," the old lady said. Avelyn walked towards her. "Gentleman, my name is Maya Shelley, and this is Avelyn, my daughter. Julia is her daughter."Gale unconsciously exhaled a breath of relief.Avelyn uses her maiden name. Maybe she's divorced from Julia's father or never married at all. Still, he was slightly anxious. For the first time, he dared to look at her. He was studying her face while she wasn't looking at him.She was as beautiful as Gale remember her from yesterday. Her hair was in a low ponytail this time. A few tendrils were loose from the ponytail and dangling on the side of her face. She wears high-waisted khaki trousers with a cream blouse. She looked gorgeous.A nu
"Julia was born prematurely," Maya said once everyone settled on their chairs.Alex and Julia had insisted on sitting next to Gale, so he sat in the middle between the two kids, and he wasn't about to complain. He likes these kids too much.Avelyn was evidently uncomfortable with it, but she didn't say a word, she silently took a seat across Julia.Trying not to read too much into the situation and decided that it would be alright to engage in the conversation as long as he doesn't seem too eager, Gale chimed in. "I've been wondering how Julia and Alex shared the same birthday.""You know their birthday?" Avelyn asked Gale, the first time she talked to him since he arrived.Gale nodded calmly even though his heart was beating wildly. "Alex told me when we introduced ourselves to each other so I can help them. Julia was very persistent that I can't help as long as I am a stranger.""Uncle Gale's birthday is in November!" Alex said.Gal
Both Gale and Avelyn snapped their heads towards Alex."Alex!" Denise hissed."It's okay, Dee," Avelyn interjected. "I am a single parent, Doctor.""Please, call me Gale." He said as he tried to suppress his victorious smile at knowing that Avelyn is a single parent.Avelyn made a face to protest, but then she sighed. "I– alright.""I'm sorry if my question makes you uncomfortable.""No, it's fine. It's just– it's been so long since the last time I have to explain this matter to anyone. I hardly have time to make friends, so meeting new people was quite a challenging task for me. I'm sorry if my demeanour was a bit slack and cold. I hope I don't offend you." She said to Gale and then glanced at Molly and Ben with an apologetic smile.Molly and Ben smiled understandingly at Avelyn, but Gale only watched her with a straight face, although deep down he still felt so happy at the prospect that he could have feelings for
When they arrived at the living room, Alex was already seated on the couch. Josh was adjusting the pillow that lay beneath his son's casted leg."Uncle Gale! Sit here next to me!" Alex exclaimed.Gale walked towards Alex and slowly lowered himself to sit next to Alex. Julia had whispered to him and asked him to carry her and let her sit on his lap. Gale was happily obliged.Talking with Julia and Alex was very easy and calming - it made Gale didn't aware of the stares from the other people in that room."You know what, Gale?" Martin suddenly said. Gale glanced towards Martin and raised his brows questioningly. "I think this is the first time I see Julia being very clingy towards male adults aside from me, Josh, and Callum.""Callum?" Gale asked, alerted."Uncle Callum! Mommy's best friend." Julia answered first.Gale forced a smile, suddenly feeling anxious. "And why is that, if I may know?" Gale asked Martin."Julia is n
Gale exhales slowly to calm his roaring feelings and then begins to tell the rest of the story. He told everyone about his first year of recovery and how Meryl had helped him a great deal. He then told them what he thought when he decided that he wanted something more than friendship with Meryl, which was very uncomfortable as he realized he never thought he was in love with her. Gale only thought about the advantages of dating Meryl, how kind, beautiful, smart, and patient she was. How she made him feel secure and safe. And then he admitted he was scared of losing the one person that shows him endless support, and he thought that if he didn't have any ties with her, she would leave him. Then he finally comes to the reason for the downfall of his relationship with Meryl."At first, everything was fine, happy and well... steady. I love feeling secure. But there was something I didn't tell Meryl." Gale glances at Ben and Molly on the opposite side of the room, and both of them
"Ava, where should I put these?" Gale asked from the back porch while lifting small chairs. He was busy helping decorate the backyard for Julia's and Alex's birthday party."Near Julia's tree. Set them so they are facing the house. Thank you, Gale," Ava exclaimed from the kitchen window. She was making a cake with Maya."Got it. You don't have to say thank you every time I do something, though," Gale shook his head while smiling."I feel bad asking you to help us. You could spend your time on other things instead, but here you are…""I'd rather be here and help prepare the party than be anywhere else at this moment. This is going to be my first time celebrating Julia's birthday – I wouldn't miss a thing, even the preparation." Gale grinned at Ava before he walked away with the chairs towards Julia's tree. He then met Alex in the middle of the backyard – walking slowly with a crutch. "Don't push yourself too much today, alright? Save you
It's been two hours since Gale ended his call, and now he was still looking at every tweet of Hayley's regarding his relationship with Ava that Lisa had captured and sent him. Lisa – Finn's cousin was one of Hayley's closest friends. She was one of a few people Hayley trusted to follow her private account where she ranted about all kinds of stuff. Turns out, his little sister liked to talk a lot about his relationship with Ava. There were even pictures – lots of them. Mostly, Hayley ranted about how frustrating it was knowing about his secret relationship and couldn't speak about it freely. She adored Ava so much. Hayley's friends were so loyal to her. Even after she died, they never revealed what she said on Twitter to anyone. Except for today, Lisa broke her promise today because she believes that was for a good cause. She had lunch with Finn today and accidentally saw him scrolling on i*******m – searching for Ava Shell
Molly took Julia to wash her hands before bringing her to Dani in the dining room.Once everyone was seated at the table, Ava started retelling what happened five years ago to Molly and Ben. She spoke so quietly so Julia couldn't catch what the adults were saying.Gale was busy with his laptop. But every once in a while, he would look up and see the confused faces of Ben and Molly."Oh, Avelyn… that was you?" Ben said sadly."Yeah, that was me," Ava sighed."Damn the girl that stood me up on Thanksgiving!" Ben said."Ben, language!" Gale chastised as he made a head gesture and signaled with his eyes towards where Julia was."Oops, sorry," Ben said. "But my point still stands. I really hate that girl. I was desperate to have a girlfriend that year. This girl gave me hope and all, but then she stood me up on our first official date! Not only did she break my heart and pride and waste my time, but she was also the cause that
"Gale, stay for dinner," Maya suggested."I'd love to, Maya. But I really need to return to Ben's place. I received a phone call from the hospital and need to check something on my laptop," Gale expressed his regret. "However, I'd come again tomorrow." He added when he noticed Julia pouting on the sofa.Julia perked up when she heard that. "Promise?""I promise. I'll spend time with you every day, but I have to leave early tonight. We can play again tomorrow, okay? " Gale gave Julia a soft smile."Let me drive you, Gale," Ava offered. "What do you think, Jules? Let's take your dad to Uncle Ben's house. Perhaps Dani is still awake, and you can say hello before we get back home."Julia squealed and jumped. "Yes, yes, yes, yes!"Her enthusiasm was met with laughter from everyone in the room. Ava then excuses herself from the room to get Julia's jacket."Gale, don't hesitate to come every day. You've become a member of our family no
When Ava opened the back door to the backyard, the afternoon summer breeze hit Gale in the face. He looked in awe at the entire setting of the yard.A small flower garden adorns the right side of the yard - stretching all the way from the porch to the fences that separate the yard from the small road.On the left side of the yard, there was a long picnic table that was perfectly placed under the shade. What had him amazed was the amur maple tree that grew right in the middle of the yard. The height was between two to three meters, give or take. The samaras on the tree are bright red and green. Gale has a strange attraction to every maple tree. He was familiar with almost all of them and can tell one from the other.Gale now understands what Alex told him in the woods – why they played in the backyard when they got bored watching cartoons. The backyard was very beautiful and a perfect place for children to play. What he couldn't figure out was
Martin let Ava and Gale into his house by opening the door.Maya stepped out of the other room and stared at the man standing in her foyer with wide eyes. There were no words to describe how Maya felt right now, and the next thing she knew, she was crying while smiling. She took her time making her way to the foyer.Gale had already noticed her and smiled as best he could. His chest was churning with emotions."Gale..." said Maya. Her voice was slightly shaky."Hello, Maya," Gale replied warmly.Maya cupped Gale's cheek with her hand. Her other hand was on his shoulder. With a teary smile, she looked at Gale."I thought I was crazy for thinking that I saw Julia's face in yours when we first met," Maya began."You're not alone. I saw myself in Julia's face the moment I was able to focus on her on the way to the hospital," Gale responded. Tears began to form in his eyes."Is it alright? Are you okay with this new informati
The drive to Shelley's house began in silence.Ava's body reverberated with a mix of anxiety and excitement. She has been wondering how she would inform Julia of this. What should she say so that Julia understands right away? Julia was still a four-year-old little girl, no matter how smart she was for her age, Ava wasn't sure her daughter would understand the gravity of the situation she was about to face.Gale abruptly spoke as if reading into her whirlwind of thoughts. "Julia is so smart,"Ava cast a sidelong glance at Gale before returning her attention to the road. He had his gaze fixed on the window."She is," Ava said, smiling."She was fearless when I met her in the woods. I'm sure she knew that a rock and a stick wouldn't protect her from a bad person, but she stood her ground and won't let me pass through her. And she was so considerate. She was capable of reading the situation and did everything she could to make it easier for
"Dad?" Ava called Martin who was speaking with one of his employees. Martin paused and turned around to see Ava smiling at him, but then his gaze was drawn to the person standing behind her. Martin's eyes widened in surprise. "Good afternoon, Martin," Gale said. He was just as worried as the old man. "Ave, Gale… hello. Err–" Martin looked at his daughter with trepidation - asking for help with what to say. He couldn't think of anything to say. "We talked, dad. Everything is good now. Gale will meet Julia today," Ava gave a bright smile. Martin unexpectedly burst into tears. Ava quickly cupped her father's cheeks with concern. "What's the matter, Dad?" "I'm sorry," Martin apologized. His voice shatters. "I'm happy– these are happy tears, Ave," he said. Ava's eyes glistened as she looked at Martin. She was sure she'd cry again with her father if she hadn't already. She smiled as she wiped her father's tears. Some
What an irony.Gale wished all sorts of bad things for Julia's father last night. Feeling jealousy crept up in him as the thought of someone having Julia as their daughter – he was willing to do anything to be in that place. Julia was a brilliant little star, just like her mother. Not to mention the resemblance they shared. Gale wasn't blind. He had felt like he was looking at his reflection when he saw Julia's face. Even with softer features and edges, different colouring, and different lip shapes – Julia looks more like him than she was with Ava. And the way Josh, Denise, and Maya looked at him in astonishment was more proof that there was an uncanny resemblance between him and Julia.Gale wasn't aware that he was still holding Ava's hand. Their hands clasped so fit together that it felt so right, it's almost unnoticeable. The slight squeeze and soft thud of Ava's heartbeat against his wrist was the reason that reminds him of their joined han
