“You’re here, Mr. Fontaine.” Mona followed everybody’s line of vision to the door, where a man in a sharp suit stood. The dim light from the hallway bounced off his prominent facial features, giving an illusion of a God descending from Heaven. Thaddeus walked into the office with a presence that commanded the room. Standing next to Mona, he gave the new authoritative figures a nod. “How’s the patient doing?” He listened to the experts’ opinions with a hand around Mona’s waist. Thaddeus smiled faintly and said, “My wife is proficient in alternative medicine. If possible, let her participate in the treatment. I trust she will be a great assistance to you.” Thaddeus’s words blew the room full of people away. It was not just Mona’s knowledge of alternative medicine that everybody was surprised about, but also that Mona was Thaddeus’s wife. Mona walked into the ward. She gently patted Grandma Beth’s shoulder and whispered, “Grandma, take a rest first. I’ll watch Grandpa Gray for you and call you when he wakes up.” Grandma Beth opened her dazed eyes and looked confusedly at Mona and Thaddeus in the ward. A sinister and dark look flashed across Thaddeus’s eyes. His voice carried a hint of anger as he asked, “Did he try to commit suicide again?” “That wasn’t the case this time. His emotions have been much more settled, which feels quite unusual.
