Clara’s life changed when she met Mr. Wong in high school. He was a self-defense instructor, training people to work as security guards for high-profile clients and celebrities.
She had this innate desire to learn to defend herself, so she begged him to teach her, but without the money to pay him, she volunteered to help him with chores instead, cleaning around the dojo, the bathrooms, and throughout the building.
Mr. Wong was surprised that a girl so young as Clara wanted to volunteer in the dojo to get her lessons.
She told him about her recurring dream of being abducted and wanted to learn how to protect herself in case it happened in real life. It was a valid argument, and he did not want to discourage her, so he accepted her proposition.
The two bonded over time because of her dedication and diligence. Clara would always come after class when her schedule permitted.
After each lesson, she would help clean up the room, returning the mats to their proper order and mopping the entire area clean.
He had never seen a student so concentrated as her before. He figured she should be out with her friends, enjoying her life, watching movies, but there she was, working her butt off to get what she needed.
In the course of the years they worked together, he never imagined wanting a daughter until she came into his life. When he learned of their little family’s plight, he did everything possible to help them.
When business became slow, she volunteered to help him with his flyers and advertising, encouraging him to place ads on the local radio and the newspaper so people would know where he was.
Doing this revived his business enough to survive a few more years until she went to college.
Mr. Wong had assigned himself as her guardian as long as she needed him. He had kids, but Clara became nearer and dearer to him through the years.
When she helped his business get back on track, he started paying her a small salary so she could quit the other odd jobs that did not pay her that well.
And since she, Max, and Jeremy were always a package deal, he had volunteered to be their guardian, with no questions asked. He taught the boys self-defense so they could defeat their bullies.
Mr. Wong’s dojo became their hangout place. Parents started enrolling their kids, and once again, business was thriving.
Jeremy and Max did odd jobs in the building, cleaning the different gym equipment, the dojo, and the bathrooms, among all things, to pay him back for all the lessons and the help he was handing out to them. Like Clara, they helped to distribute the flyers when they had nothing to do.
The siblings strived to be rich and distinguished when they grew up. They wanted to break out of the stigma of being an orphan, uneducated people who would never amount to anything.
They studied hard to ensure they could land scholarships to help with college tuition. Clara guided Max and Jeremy to take computer classes since working with computers became popular. People in the computer and software industries were getting paid handsomely to program softwares or build computers.
Mr. Wong helped the siblings with their other bills and school supplies while they worked for him part-time, so they could concentrate on studying instead of working too many odd jobs that always left them too tired to do their schoolwork.
Because the computers were taking over the nation, Mr. Wong’s business began to fail.
Another facility with more updated and high-tech gym equipment had opened a shop in the next city over. They claimed they were training better security personnel because of this, so they were losing their trainees.
Money was getting tighter, and instead of competing head-on with their rival, Clara had suggested they venture out further and specialize in the technology side of the industry. Something that needed little capital because they needed to supply the equipment only upon demand.
It was a slow start, installing security cameras, monitoring systems, and intruder alert technology, but as their clientele grew, so did their profit. Eventually, when the business kicked off, they could buy all the updated gym equipment they needed to compete with their rivals.
Clara would often tinker with the new camera equipment and take them apart in his office. Practicing what she learned in school and applying it to whatever hardware or software she could get her hands on. So, even before she graduated, she knew how to enhance and manipulate the different monitoring systems offered in the market. So when they reached their intended clients, they performed better than what they were designed for.
Mr. Wong hired Clara as soon as the money started coming in.
She was in charge of the software and technology side of the operations since he was not that tech-savvy. He even gave her the fancy title of Chief Technology Officer.
She then hired Max and Jeremy to help develop the security systems. It gave them firsthand experience of the numerous applications of things they were learning in school.
After her college graduation, Mr. Wong mentioned he wanted to shut down the business and advised her to think about her future. He suggested joining a more advanced technology company to showcase her skills or open up her own security shop.
He argued he was getting old and didn’t think he could handle the business end of the company on his own anymore. So Clara secured a loan with a local bank and proposed buying 70 percent of his shares to keep the company afloat.
She hired a personal assistant, an accountant, and a marketing director to boost sales and keep Mr. Wong off his toes. She kept 30% of the shares and divided the rest between Max and Jeremy.
Mr. Wong declined to be part of the company, but Clara could never imagine training the security personnel without him.
He had more wisdom to give out to the people he was training. So she promised that as soon as they both found his replacement, she would allow him to retire.
But in the meantime, he could be part of managing and screening the security personnel they sent out because Clara knew nothing about training people and weighing in on their capabilities.
She hired several trainers and instructors that taught the different disciplines of self-defense: Karate, Krav Maga, Jeet Kune Do, and Jujitsu, among a few others.
Clara’s only request was to allow her free rein on the software and technology side. And as a bonus, she would allow the personnel he was training to learn their software to make them more hirable.
When their security company got more jobs than they could fill and enough money to sustain the business, they hired more people and expanded their office, moving them to a newer location.
They constructed new buildings for the newly named Security and Software Technology (SST) offices.
One building was for the Security Workforce department. They had the largest dojo Clara had ever seen. It had a gym area with the latest equipment where they conducted training and drills.
In the same building, they had a placement agency the trainees could avail as soon as their training ended. Training rooms were available for holding seminars, and sessions on using the most recent SST software were provided. Mr. Wong’s office was in this building so he could oversee the trainees.
The second building was designated to the Science and Technology department. She had the contractors build a state-of-the-art research lab to enhance and develop proprietary technologies and software. This building housed the Accounting, Finance, and Marketing Departments, together with Clara, Max, and Jeremy’s offices.
A glass-covered bridge that overlooked the lake in the distance interconnected both buildings, giving everyone a marvelous view of the sunrise and the sunset on both sides. It served as easy access to any department they desired to visit.

At the Hotel Clara got up from bed and went to the bathroom. She needed to change into something more comfortable. Her brothers let her go to bed with her party clothes on. Probably because she had already passed out by the time they got back and did not want to wake her again. They took turns watching her throughout the night, knowing this was going to be rough on her. Because of her constant nightmares, she didn’t stop crying until she ensured that both of them were near. She looked at her brothers lovingly at the foot of the bed. ‘What would my life have been without these two? I’m thankful those assholes dumped me in that orphanage. I think this time we will find our closure. Celine is holding our key. I hope next time we find ourselves together, it will be because a
In the Office They were eyeing each other when Jeremy suddenly walked in. Sebastian was trying to find out why she was lying and what she was lying about, but now was not the time to pry. ‘So I don’t believe we covered the remote connection to the cameras yesterday,’ Jeremy volunteered. ‘Let me show you how to access it from your phone and from your other devices. This would definitely make it easier for you to monitor the office when you go out of town.’ ‘Okay,’ Sebastian said as he stood up and returned to his desk, giving Clara one last look. She was already busy clicking away on her computer. Clara was not particularly interested in having lunch right now. She was concentrating on finding out more information regarding her sister and her family. So fa
Clara held her breath. There was blatant interest in his eyes, and it scared her that he would kiss her right there and then. His eyes were so intensely green right now, and she couldn’t look away. It was like there was nobody else but them in the elevator, and all she could hear was her heart beating loudly in her chest. The more she spent time with him, the more she felt compelled to do whatever it was he wanted. ‘Kiss me,’ her brain said. Looking into his eyes was a mistake. It drew her in like you would imagine a vampire mesmerizing his prey. He had a very tiny scar on his upper lip that she wanted to run her lips over. The ding of the elevator saved her from embarrassing herself. She almost collapsed on the flo
Clara had been quiet on the plane ride home. She had a lot of things to process. Was she really Carmen Jacobs? Is that going to be good or bad? What does that mean for her and her brothers when they finally find her family? Will they be welcoming? Of course, she would not abandon her brothers for anyone, she’s spent most of her life with them already, and they would continue to be together. It just meant that, finally, she would have closure. She did not remember if she had pictures when she was younger. Not even one with Max and Jeremy as kids. In fact, they were so poor that pictures would get taken only for records and identification. So she had nothing to compare to the photo in that news article. At an age when kids were making memories with their friends, she was already working. In her hand, sh
‘I’m so glad all three of you are here today. I haven’t seen you in a long time, and my, how you’ve all grown. Max and Jeremy, you boys are still very handsome.’ Mrs. Powell patted their cheeks. ‘Don’t make the girls cry, okay?’ and they both smiled. ‘And you, my dear, have become more beautiful. A little thinner than before and with dark circles around the eyes, but still beautiful,’ she lovingly caressed Clara’s cheek. ‘Have you been sleeping well these days? I saw your article in the newspaper and congratulations on the launch of your new product. Some of your staff installed a few of your cameras here as well, but I doubt we’ll need it.’ The Powell family and the Johnson siblings have known each other for 10 years. Mr. and Mrs. Powell asked the siblings to call them Ma and Pa, just like everybody else.
Six months. Sebastian was supposed to see Clara again in six months, according to the contract. But that was way too long for him to wait to see her again. He was getting antsy and frustrated. ‘How is this relationship ever going to start when she ices me out? I’ve been texting her almost every day, and all she gives me is her one-word answers. Ugh!’ The last time he saw Clara, he thought they had made progress. Sure, he might have annoyed her a little, but he thought being honest was the key. And instead of acknowledging his feelings, she blocked them. Jeremy kept him from spending any time alone with her after they had come back from the restaurant. He had business to take care of, but Clara filled his thoughts. She hadn’t even done anything special to catch his attention, except by rejecting his advances and telling him she wasn’t interested. It seemed to
‘Take a seat, Sebastian. We all know you did not come here to complain about the security system we’ve installed or to ask for more enhancements, or even to give us feedback.’ ‘We have been monitoring your system for three weeks. It has undergone extreme scrutiny by your own security team, and so far, it has proven to be stable. So let’s cut the bullshit.’ ‘I know you’ve had our family investigated, and you already know that all three of us come from the same orphanage.’ Jeremy started. Sebastian shrugged, not denying his accusation. ‘Did you find anything useful?’ he inclined his head and moved his lips, showing he found nothing. ‘We love Clara to death. She is our whole world, and we will do everything possible to protect her.’ ‘She is not one of your busines
Clara couldn’t stop thinking about Sebastian, from the cute way he smiled to the intense way he looked at her. She could not forget how he flirted with her the last time they were together. In the elevator, where she almost kissed him willingly, his green eyes hypnotizing her. Then inside his car, when they were sitting side by side. How she could still feel his breath, or maybe his lips when he whispered in her ear. She shuddered just thinking about it. She spent 2 hours exercising in the pool this morning to forget about him and it surprised her when it worked. Her workout had been so invigorating that she started tackling all the paperwork on her desk like she had a deadline. But then, as soon as he showed up in front of her, she felt doomed. Her heart skipped a beat when she looked up and saw his smiling face right there in her office.
-=- Downstairs, the hotel staff had cleared the entire outdoor area to accommodate the most important event happening today. They place an arch covered in vines and calla lilies on the outer edge, overlooking the beach and the sea. Sebastian tried to do everything not to let the cat out of the bag. This event was going to be a surprise. And even though deep in his heart he knew her answer, that she wanted to marry him, he still couldn’t help but feel apprehensive about her reaction. Clara was not a simple person. She was very complex in her reactions and outbursts. He prayed to all the gods in heaven to help them today. There was no denying that as soon as Clara steps in front of the doors that led to the patio, she would know what he had planned for her because waiting at the door was her father, Nathan Jacobs.
Max, Jeremy, and apparently her sister, Celine, were inside waiting for them, waving their hands and screaming simultaneously. Sebastian walked them back into the hallway to keep her state of undress from prying eyes. The couple laughed at their predicament as she unwrapped her legs around him. Clara gave him one last lingering kiss, and when they were ready, headed back into the room. ‘Why are you guys inside our suite? Who let you in?’ ‘We got in last night, and you said you wanted to rehearse and set up the equipment before the presentation, so here we are,’ Max said with jazz hands waving in the air. She just rolled her eyes. ‘You guys are too early. I still need a nap. Can you leave?’ she plopped down on the sofa and snuggled with a pillow. The
I was sitting in my living room writing up Max’s story when this alternate ending came to me and got me excited. The following chapters were going to be part of his book, but I decided you need to be rewarded for reading all the way to the end of Clara’s story. I hope you enjoy this alternate ending. -=- ‘Clara! The plane is leaving in two hours, and there is a major accident in the 405. If we do not make it in time, you will not make your appointment.’ Sebastian yells as he walks to their bedroom. Their meeting at 2 pm is irrevocable, and nothing should impede them from keeping it. This will be the most important appointment of their lives. Clara rolls her eyes. ‘We have two hours, relax. Even in this traffic, we have enough time to make it. Your driver knows all the shortcuts. Plus, Jeremy and
Ariana was found tied up and gagged in one of the hotel’s janitor closets, one that was not normally checked until the morning. Because she was resilient and determined to alert anybody to Clara’s disappearance, she made enough ruckus for one of the hotel guests to notice and call for help. Clara felt relieved to have found her the next day. Thankfully, she had been released from the hospital with a few scratches and bandages on her head and arm. The bad guys banged her head enough to give her a concussion, so she had to be kept overnight for observation. She twisted her arm from trying to get out of the restraints, and when she continued to throw her body against the door to attract someone’s attention. Ariana was very resilient, and Clara liked that she fought until the end. Now that the threat to Celine and Clara’s life had been eliminated, with the bad gu
-=- This chapter is R18. If you are not over 18, please skip this chapter and proceed to Chapter 124. -=- Clara laughs. Sebastian knew this was a serious situation, but after being rejected earlier, he trod lightly and opted for the easygoing route. ‘I love you, Baz. Thank you for being patient with me.’ Clara looked at him lovingly and caressed his face, kissing his lips lightly as she closed her eyes. The fire was back in her eyes. He hated being the one that took it away from her by making her worry and question everything they were to each other. But now, he would make sure that he would do everything in his power, never to extinguish that again. He would do everything to make her happy.
Boss runs away as Nathan and Clara bend down to tend to Nicholas. But the cops had already surrounded the house by then, and they apprehended him as he tried to run away, just like the other goon that tried to escape earlier. Sebastian, on the other hand, fought off Spike, disarming the gun from him when Boss fired the shot. Spike had no fighting chance, and he knew as soon as Sebastian got his weapon, he was going to jail. With the criminals arrested and Clara’s uncle carted away to the hospital, they were all finally able to settle down and take a seat. Everybody was pretty shaken up, and the women sniffled from time to time as they recounted what happened. They huddled with each other, Emilia Jacobs holding onto her daughters to seek comfort and assurance that the nightmare was over. Sebastian took
The house was eerily quiet when they got home. ‘Mom! Dad! I’m home!’ Clara called out as she came in through the door. That should have been an indication that something was wrong because they had left the front door unlocked. When none of the regular security was present around the property, she just assumed they blended in with the background. But her excitement at getting away from her abductors got the better of her. She did not apply the regular protocols for security. Her mom, dad, and sister sat on the sofa in a neat line, with their hands behind her back, their mouths covered with tape. The gun she felt pointed at the side of her head made everything click into place. The kidnappers had a backup plan, and they were waiting at her parent’s home. They took the whole family hostage as a las
Spike proceeded to tape Clara’s mouth but didn’t expect her to be awake. She bit down hard on his hand, inflicting so much pain that he slapped her across the face, dislodging her blindfold enough so she could see through the bottom. Clara kicks Spike between his thighs, rendering him immobile for a few minutes. Enough time for Clara to bring the hands tied behind her back under her knees. She had to bring them in front of her, making it easier to get out of the zip ties that bound them together. Clara falls flat on her face even before she can get anywhere. Spike had come out of the sensation of having his balls kicked enough to slide his feet and trip her. He holds a knife to her neck, pinning her to the floor. She had no choice but to surrender. She fights him again when he pulls Clara up to tie her agai
Nicholas Jacobs had been watching Clara and Celine as closely as everyone else ever since the kidnappers came back and threatened to take them again. When he saw Clara sneak out into the restroom with nobody following her, he decided to take it upon himself to do it. Clara did not trust him after what he did, but he did not care. It was better to be safe than sorry. Clara could yell at him if that's what she wanted. He deserves it, after all. He pretended to make a phone call, hiding near the men’s restroom doors. When he saw two uniformed hotel staff come out of the women’s restroom with a hotel trolley, the kind used to carry all the sheets and linens from rooms that have been emptied and he grew suspicious. These men didn’t look like the regular hotel staff. They looked more buff and were suspiciously gruff-looking, covered with all those tattoos. So when they left, he checked inside the restroom, and
