Chapter 51

RAYANA POV

The conference was utterly unlike anything I have ever been to before. The topics were long dragged, the arguments never ended, people called out each other with horrible names and the shit hit the fan way sooner than one would expect. But at the end of the day, everything was brushed off in such a formal manner I failed to understand how these people functioned.

It was during this conference I realized that my life had really pivoted. And I am talking real ass change.

From drafting the budgets for the archduchy to representing the whole of the UK and the crown was something I never dared to even fathom in my entire life.

And it looked like it was just the beginning. Just as Alejandro had said.

I knew there were many more conferences like this one I would attend, and I wish my aunt, the queen was here for a quick hug.

This was such an eye-opener.

I smiled from where I sat, alone and assessing everything before my eyes. Ambassadors smiled and chatted about ho

    Chapter 52RAYANA POVThe twenty-minute drive to Odintsovo seemed to be taking an eternity. The President and Melanie had tried convincing me to stay behind while the Mossad took care of the criminals, but I kicked the idea straight to hell. I was not going to stay tucked safely in the white house while Alejandro fought for his life. Like he did with me, I was going to stand in front of bullets and carry them with my back instead. The tension was thick and cloying in the truck as we neared the base. I barked directions to the driver, and he patiently listened to my ramblings while swerving the car expertly until we arrived at the gate. Somehow we managed not to get lost and made it to the base. My prayer knew no end as I asked god to keep him alive until backup arrived. Alejandro needed to live.My heart leaped into my throat when I realized the giant gate was torched to the ground. I covered my mouth to stifle the cry that followed. There was no hope. There really was no hope.

    Chapter 53RAYANA POVIt has been a whole week since the UNDP conference wrapped up and came to an end. But the memory of all the happenstances that went down in Russia was running rampant and fresh in my mind like it was all yesterday. There was nothing I did or held without that little voice in my mind screaming at me when I remembered what had transpired.Every time I thought of all that, a shin of cold sweat ran down my spine; because there is no way in a thousand years I would have ever dreamed of doing what I did. But I just remember standing there after that phone call and thinking Alejandro was dead. That was the worst feeling in my entire life. And the way I reacted… Heck! Who knew I was capable of that? Negotiating with The President of Russia about dispatching the Mossad to aid me in the criminal aid? But then again, any woman would move mountains for the man she loved. That was just it. “Rayana.” My aunt- the queen- called out as soon as I stepped into her lounge room

    Chapter 54ALEJANDRO POVI won’t lie and say I did not see it coming. I did! You do not raid the Russians THAT hard and sit back to enjoy the rest of your days with a bloody tea cup in your hand. That has never happened in all the history of the underworld. And my little angel may have known it, but she just invited us right to our doorstep, and this was it knocking. This was just the first of many!But fuck! The same day I acquiesced to her nagging about me always parading around her wherever she went; this kind of shit happened. “I am still trying to find out who could have planted the bomb,” Kaito announced from where he was seated, strapped in the passenger seat while typing furiously on his computer. I did not just promote him to being head of security because he was good as moving like a ninja and made no sound; the man was a fucking tech nerd and he knew all there was to know in the tech world. “Anything new?” “No! It’s like they froze all the cameras in the vicinity bef

    Chapter 55RAYANA POVI remained curled up and under a warm fleece blanket as Kaito and Alejandro paced the space in front of me while I stared blankly into space. I couldn't hear anything passed the angry raw of my blood that rushed within my veins, making me feverish. My mind was a loud incoherent mess of what ifs, chunk a mix of Italian slurs and curses; I felt like I was going crazy. The sound of something colliding with the wooden floor had me jumping out of my skin, my heart thumping uncontrollably in my chest.What if I hadn’t left in that car? What if I hadn't heard those beeps and then..."Rayana..." rough hands clutched me by my arms, bringing me back to reality. Alejandro was staring at me with black, dark, and dangerous eyes. I could see the darkness ins

    Chapter 56KAITO POVThey said curiosity killed the cat. And indeed, it was true. People disappeared after poking their noses where they shouldn’t have; people died after discovering secrets that were left hidden. Some of the things were hidden for a reason; because they were lethal, apocalyptic!I wanted to tell her that. I wanted to tell her that what she wanted to know was something she would come to discover on her own, that I was in no way, shape, or form capable of answering her question or feeding her curiosity. But how could I deny her all that while she looked like she would die any second from now if I didn’t say even a single word? Forget her curiosity; any

    ~~~CONT~~~“About six guards climbed the ring and tied him down, one even put his boot on his head. They cuffed him, took him out of the ring and that building…“I remember Boos ringing, new recruits wanting to fight for their fellow peer; only to be silenced by gunshots. Many died that night, and that was the last time I ever saw him with my own eyes.” I paused to catch my breath, the memory causing something dark and dangerous to slither inside of my veins. He had already avenged himself and all others who were wrong in that place; yet if I could be given a chance; I would fucking go torch that place to ground, turn it into the real that is!“What happened?” Rayan
    Chapter 66RAYANA POVWhen I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was triple, obsidian orbs staring at me with so much tenderness I began to melt right there and then. The gaze of them was soft, gentle; a concoction of comfort and reliance. Alejandro’s hand traveled from the path next to my neck before threading his fingers in my hair, then smiled that lazy smile that always made me weak in the knees. He was such a beautiful man; a stark contrast to what I saw last night.Last night, I had seen him in his might, the horrible things he was capable of doing. And just thinking about it all left me on the precipice of indecision. I didn’t know whether I was to love him more or fear him.“M.m.” He grumbled
The darkness I loved and worshipped filtered through the cracks on the walls of the dungeon while the fucker continued spewing things that were only guaranteeing his death. Things along the lines of how ‘he’ was going to fuck Rayana’s corpse after they delivered it to him. Like I would ever let that happen. Not in this life or the next. Rayana was mine to tame, mine to train, mine in all shapes and forms of the word. No fucker in this world or beyond would stake a claim on her while I lived. And I was about to make it known to the rest of the wo
    Chapter 64RAYANA POVI still wasn’t sure where all bravery came from, or where I got the guts to stand in front of the most dangerous man in all of the UK and call him up on his bullshit. Maybe it was from the fact that I had the devil incarnate standing guard by my side and ready to maul and maim if he so ever tried to pull any other shitty stunt, but still… I couldn’t believe I stood against the man who cooked people for a living and handed him his shit on the platter. After a little back and forth, the chef managed to convince Alejandro that his little proposal was worth taking. I wanted to believe his little act of loyalty was his patriarchal instincts kicking in, but I knew better than to delude myself into that.
    Chapter 63RAYANA POVWhen the door slipped closed, the first thought that infested my mind was that I was not staying behind! Fuck everything else. The times I had been without Alejandro, something lethal always happened, something that always resulted in a near-death experience. And I would be damned. “Where are you going?” Charlotte sat up straight when I jumped out of the bed, her face puffy and tear-stained. One look at her and I knew I owed her my life. Which meant I wasn’t going to sit around here and wait to be fed with the news of why I was hunted by the Russians. I needed to hear it all with my own ears, and then decide what I was going to do about it!
    Chapter 62ALEJANDRO POVMy whole body felt like a weightless piece of paper when the news reached my ears. I felt light on my feet, the blood inside of me simmering on low. I allowed the bloodlust to infest my system, let the darkness swallow my soul whole, blackening every piece of me that was left human.Calamity brewed and formed its path to my throat, the bitterness of it spreading inside my mouth. My whole body itched to destroy, to shred everything in the vicinity to pieces… It was not the fact that my girl was almost killed, twice in a week while I fumbled on straws trying to nail the one person who was after her head; or that I warned her against this crazy idea of going out there in public.
    Chapter 61RAYANA POVWestfield London plus month-end frenzy was not the most ideal combo for a little getaway… Especially for the most wanted person! The mall was insanely crowded with month-end throngs, and going up and about was almost a pain in the mess. If bumping into people here and there was not crazy on its own, I just couldn’t shake off that rattling awareness of eyes following me at every turn. And no matter how long I had it, I just couldn’t get used to it. It was unnerving, and there was no way I could relax under the watchful gazes of Alejandro’s men. I would look around at some point to see if they were near, and I would see nothing! Just normal civilians going about with their lives.
    Chapter 60ALEJANDRO POV“What is this madness of going out?” I asked, trying to be as understanding as I could possibly be. I seriously didn’t think Charlotte would come knocking here. It was clear I underestimated the lengths the two sisters could go just to see each other. The how’s of it didn’t matter, because she was here now. And it could only mean one thing; they were dead set on going out. “All we are asking for is a few hours of gallivanting around the mall. Just a few hours. I mean look at her. She is room-rotting in here.” Charlotte pleaded her case and gestured to Rayana. She looked perfectly fine to me. I am talking about a grey loungewear set that clung onto her body, accentuating her lush curves and perky tits. I
