Jazmine's eyes couldn't stop looking at the photos on the screen of her computer. Her mind went wild. Then, the photo of Liam with a pregnant woman crushed her to the end. Her hands clenched and unclenched numerous times. Jazmine wanted to control her emotions, but she couldn’t.
“Five years, Jaz. It has been five years. Of course, he’s married. Look, he’s happy and everything,” Jazmine said to herself to convince herself that everything was okay.
Granted, she only met Liam once, but from that one meeting, many things happened to her. She didn’t dare to tell Anita anything about it. Looking at the photo like now, Jazmine realized she was nothing compared to Liam's wife.
That woman—she was gorgeous.
Jazmine slapped her own forehead. How could she still feel something for a married man? That was certainly the wrong thing to do. Liam was married, and he was out of her league completely. She shouldn’t harbor any feelings for him. Jazmine quickly shrugged her thoughts away and closed the web browser before her feeling turned into an ill intention.
Rowan knocked on the door of her office before opening it. “Hey, Jaz. Mrs. Ferdinand just called to come early. Is that okay with you?”
“Yeah, sure,” Jazmine replied. “She can come in thirty minutes.”
“Alright.”
Jazmine reviewed the final design Mrs. Ferdinand wanted. It didn’t take long for Jazmine to create several designs that she knew would satisfy her client’s request. Mrs. Ferdinand was a meticulous woman. She knew exactly what she wanted, and she got a designer who could create it.
All that was left was for Jazmine to represent the portfolios to Mrs. Ferdinand later, letting her client choose one. Then, Jazmine would send the final portfolio to the designing team assigned to make the design a reality in Mrs. Ferdinand’s home.
Jazmine went to the meeting room and had everything ready before her client came. This wasn’t her first rodeo. In fact, she handled every VIP customer of the company. It wasn’t like they had a long list of VIP customers, but Jazmine’s designs were one reason why the company made its name in the industry.
Two hours later, her client had chosen one design to finalize the contract. Jazmine passed the portfolio to Rowan after Mrs. Ferdinand had left. Jazmine returned to her office to prepare for another client of hers.
Her workday was completed without any embarrassing mistakes. Jazmine gathered her stuff and went to the parking lot. She didn’t want to bump into Jay Bernard at all. Now, she was escaping him as a criminal escaped from the cops, except that she didn’t do anything breaking the laws. She was polite.
Jazmine scanned through the parking lot, and his car was still parked at the usual spot. Quickly getting into her own car, she left the building as if she had planted a bomb inside. Jazmine tried to start her car several times, and nothing happened. Jazmine groaned before calling Anita’s number.
“Hey, can you pick me up?” Jazmine said as soon as Anita answered.
“Sure thing. Be there in ten minutes,” Anita replied.
The call was cut. Jazmine rested her head against the headrest of the seat and spotted Jay Bernard was walking towards her. She rolled her eyes as she didn’t want to talk to him at all.
“Does it make a problem again?” Jay said as he gestured to her car. “Come on. I can send you home.”
“No, thank you,” Jazmine replied politely. “My friend is on her way.”
“Jazmine, are you mad about the gifts?” He eyed her.
Jazmine got out of the car and slammed the door shut. “Mr. Bernard, you know I couldn’t accept any gift from my boss. It’s really unprofessional and inappropriate.”
“Come on, Jazmine. A dinner between two friends. I promise I'll send you home after that.”
A dinner between friends? She didn’t recall being friends with him. The only friend she had in the workplace was Rowan because he didn’t annoy the hell out of her. Jay Bernard annoyed her from the very first day.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Bernard. I’m not interested in having a friendly dinner either,” Jazmine said.
“Jazmine, stop with the formal name-calling. Everyone here calls me Jay.”
Jazmine wanted to answer him when she heard a roar of a motorbike. She looked at the main gate and saw a motorbike and its biker talking to the guard. The guard gestured to the parking lot. Jazmine’s eyes couldn’t look away because she recognized the biker. The motorbike was approaching the parking lot slowly before it stopped next to her car.
“Your car broke down?” The biker took off the helmet, and Jazmine’s eyes widened.
“Liam?” Jazmine said softly.
“I was passing by when Anita called. Who’s this?” He gestured to Jay Bernard.
“I’m Jay Bernard, her boss,” Jay said, extending his hand for a handshake.
“Excuse me,” Liam said, ignoring Jay’s handshake, and went to Jazmine’s car and opened the door to the driver’s seat.
He unlocked the hood and went to check the engine. Jazmine couldn’t say anything else as she didn’t know what to say. She watched his side profile and realized he had more tattoos than before. His arms were covered in tattoos. Liam reached for something in the engine and began to work on it.
“You should leave,” Jazmine said to her boss.
“What if he bothers you when you’re alone?” Jay said.
Jazmine rolled her eyes. “Seven p.m.”
Jay beamed a smile when he understood her answer. “That’s good enough for me. I’d see you later.” he smiled again before leaving her alone.
Jazmine resisted rolling her eyes at his enthusiasm. This dinner better not do anything more than a dinner. She hoped that her name wouldn’t make it into Jay’s list of women he had slept with. In a workplace like this, gossip traveled like wildfire. Everyone here knew he was pursuing her. He looked so desperate, though. She considered this as a charity case.
“Try to start the car,” Liam said, cleaning his hands on his dark jeans.
“Uh? Oh...right...” Jazmine rushed to the driver’s side and turned the key.
The car roared to life once more. Liam went to his bike without saying anything else. He started his bike.
“Word of advice,” Liam said. “Don’t accept dinner invites if you’re not comfortable with it.”
Just like that, he left. Jazmine could only watch him leaving like before. She sighed as she knew she shouldn’t feel anything for him. She kept reminding herself that Liam was married and expecting a kid.
She went home, still couldn’t forget anything about Liam. Jazmine decided to give herself time to forget him because it wouldn’t be easy. For five years, she harbored a feeling for him. Now, she knew he was married. There were no more reasons to keep those feelings.
Jazmine checked her watch and saw she had two hours to get ready. There was enough time for her to soak in the hot bath, trying to get rid of the frustration in her. She stripped out of her clothes in her room and entered the bathroom, running a hot bath. While waiting for that, she removed her makeup. Jazmine didn’t consider herself as beautiful. It was hard for a nerd or an outcast like her to consider themselves beautiful.
She lowered herself into the bathtub and sighed in content. The warmth of the water seeped into her skin pores. She soaked in the hot bath for about one hour. There was enough time to prepare, and I waited for Jay to come. She was fixing her makeup when the front doorbell rang. Jazmine checked her watch. There was no way Jay came this early to pick her up. Maybe Anita forgot her keys again.
Speaking of Anita, Jazmine wanted to confront her later on. Why would she send Liam to go there? And why would Liam be in the same town as them?
Running down the stairs in a bathrobe, she headed to the door and opened it. Her breath hitched at the back of her throat when she saw it wasn’t Jay or Anita who stood there. It was Liam. He looked handsome in a black jacket, grey shirt, and black jeans with combat boots, unlike earlier.
Liam’s handheld a small box and showed it to her. “I got the new starter relay for your car. Where’s your key?”
“Why didn’t you mention it earlier?” Jazmine asked him.
Liam shrugged. “Where’s the key?”
Jazmine grunted as she grabbed her car key and gave it to him. Liam left like he was never there. She ran to her room and quickly dressed for dinner. But, she wanted to check on Liam and her car. Jazmine picked her purse and ran to the elevator. She went to the basement parking lot and saw Liam had just popped open the hood.
He took off his jacket and threw it onto his motorbike. Jazmine just realized his motorbike was parked next to her car. She continued to look at him, although she knew she shouldn’t.
“Did I pass your inspection?” Liam asked while he was busy unboxing the new starter relay. “Or do you still need to inspect some more?”
“Liam, what are you doing here?” Jazmine asked. “You never showed up after Anita’s party. Why now?”
“Oh, I’m joining Anita’s summer vacation,” He replied casually.
“What?!” Jazmine shrieked.
Then, she remembered Anita called her this morning. Was that why Anita called her and said they were going for a summer vacation and asked if she wanted to invite anyone?
But Liam was married. Why would he join a summer vacation with two girls? Well, one of the girls was his sister, so that didn’t count. But, Jazmine had no blood relation with Liam. Wouldn’t his wife feel jealous seeing her husband on vacation with another woman and his sister?
“She didn’t tell you?” Liam scanned her from head to toe. “I’d guess you still agreed to the dinner invitation.”
“You didn’t even know it was a dinner invitation,” Jazmine said.
“It was written all over his face.”
Jazmine ignored his statement as she watched Liam replacing the old starter relay with the new one. So, the photos of him fixing cars and motorbikes on his social media weren’t just a bluff.
“Congratulations,” Jazmine said, remembering Liam was expecting a child.
Liam wiped his hands with a rag inside a toolbox he brought with him. “For what?”
She wanted to reply when she saw Jay’s car approaching her in the basement parking. There was something unreadable on Liam’s face. His lips were tight, and his jaw clenched. Jay came out from his car and approached them.
“We’ve met again. Are you living here?” Jay said.
“Liam Blake. Jazmine’s friend’s brother. Yes, I’m living here,” Liam replied after a minute of silence.
Jazmine wanted to protest about Liam living in the same building, but then she remembered he bought the penthouse for Anita. Although he gave Anita a gift as a gift, the penthouse was still under his name because when Anita received the penthouse, the management was skeptical about changing the ownership.
Liam turned to Jazmine and gave a business card to her. “Send your car to this workshop tomorrow. The owner will service your car.”
Without a further word, Liam grabbed the toolbox and a bag from his motorbike and went to the elevator. Jazmine blinked blankly at Liam’s action.
“He’s not much of a talker, isn’t he?” Jay said.
“This isn’t a date,” Jazmine reminded him. “A dinner between two friends.”
Jay was her boss. And that was it—one professional line between an employee and a boss.
Three hours flight and one hour sitting inside a taxi heading to Silver Light Pack, led by Cohen’s cousin, Janet Reese. But, Liam didn’t let the taxi take him straight into Silver Light’s territory. Instead, it stopped in a small town forty minutes away from the pack’s main territory. He walked along the empty road heading to the main territory, where he spotted a group of patrolling Enforcers. “Liam Blake, it’s been a while,” someone greeted him at the border. “Ashton, you’re looking good,” Liam replied. Ashton Mayer was the pack’s Beta. Liam used to train Ashton back in Cohen’s pack. Silver Light Pack was established ten years ago by several members of Cohen’s pack. They left Cohen’s pack because their mates were from a different pack. Not wanting their mates’ Alpha on bad terms with Cohen, they decided to make
When they arrived at the restaurant, Jazmine should have expected it to turn out this way. It was the fanciest and expensive restaurant in the town. She almost cursed to herself for agreeing to Jay’s dinner invitation. Their dinner was served a few minutes after ordering. Jay ordered most of the stuff. Jazmine didn’t bother about it because, for sure, he knew more than her. Jazmine sat there as Jay began to talk about his life, accomplishments, and family. He came from a wealthy family, of course. Everyone in the company knew how wealthy Bernard’s family was. His father, Gale, was a former state senator and a very successful businessman who owned hotels and resorts. Natalie Bernard, Jay’s mother, was a CEO of a multi-billion corporation. She inherited it from her father after he had passed away. As the only child in the family, she became a billionaire overnight with all the wealth. The association betwee
The next morning, Liam woke up earlier than anyone else. He had an alarm clock in his mind that helped him to wake up on time. Because of his fixed schedule in the pack, Liam was used to waking up early. Now, leading a normal life briefly made him feel utterly useless. Liam never knew a life outside a pack. He didn’t know what to do in all those hours. He just sat there on his bed, thinking about what he should do next. It was just four in the morning. That was his usual waking time. He would go for a patrol at four-thirty in the morning and then every four hours. That would take two hours. When he came back to the pack mansion, breakfast was already served by the pack’s cooks. Liam would do some paperwork in the morning and some training in the afternoon. He would do a last patrolling session of the day at six in the evening. By the time he returned, dinner was served. He slept at eleven in th
Jazmine sat there in the kitchen, staring blankly at the wall. She couldn’t believe that she said it to Liam. When Liam said he wasn’t married and the redheaded woman in his photo was a wife to his friend, Jazmine was elated, somehow. But then, she managed to ruin the rest of the conversation. She mentioned his leader was heartless. Was that why Liam stormed off, leaving her in the park?“Why are you awake this early?” Anita walked into the kitchen and opened a fridge to grab a bottle of water. “Where’s Liam? I didn’t see him in his room.”“Anita…” Jazmine called. “I said something harsh to Liam.”Was it harsh? She didn’t know. She didn’t know anything about Liam’s life in the estate where he grew up. She didn’t know anyone in that estate. His words rang in her ears like audio on a loop. She couldn’t forget the way he said those sentences.&
“Oi!” Anita waved her hands in front of his face.Liam snapped from his deep thoughts as the waiter came to their table with the foods they ordered earlier.“What are you thinking?” His sister asked.“Just some stuff I discussed with Zidane.”“Geez, you never stopped thinking about work.”Liam was mostly in his own world for the whole time. He wasn’t the type to take a long vacation either because he knew how big his role was in the pack.“To think about it, what kind of work do you do?” Jazmine asked.“Workshops,” Liam replied. “I repair mo
The next morning, Liam arrived in Zidane’s pack mansion. Cohen planned to do a meeting with Liam regarding the departure of his parents from the pack. Liam could barely sleep, and he chose not to tell Anita yet. He didn’t want to worry his sister for no reason.“Cohen…” Liam greeted his Alpha.“Sorry to ruin the mood yesterday,” Cohen said to him. “If I keep it a secret, it would ruin more.”“No, it’s good. What did they say?”“Well, they submitted the documents. They said it was time for them to leave the pack.”Liam chuckled as he sat down. “It’s ironic. They didn’t like Anita leaving the pack. Yet, they’re doi
“This is….” Liam paused.Jazmine looked ahead, and a blush crept her cheeks. When Anita suggested they go shopping before the vacation, Jazmine didn’t expect this would happen. Lately, Jazmine was busy getting her work done, so she came home late, but Anita was just there every time she came home. Anita kept saying that Liam had other business to attend to. The entire week passed just like that, and their summer vacation would start in the morning.“Anita, why would you drag us here?” Jazmine asked, shaking her best friend, who kept laughing like a maniac. The store that Anita suggested was a lingerie store.“You need some bathing suits. Don’t tell me you’re going to spend your summer in clothes? Right, Liam?&r
The next day, Liam strolled around the building, looking for something suspicious. He got in contact with the Ghost team that was watching Anita since day one. Liam went to the gym that he frequented in the past few days and spotted a few guys working out. He walked into the locker room and encountered the member of the Ghost team, Ian.“I’ve acquired the information you wanted,” Ian said, handing a brown envelope to Liam. “One month ago, there was an increase in murder cases in the town. Although the victims seemed random, the killer shared similarity.”Liam opened the envelope and looked through the file and photos inside. Then, his hand stopped at one photo. A picture of a man shifted into a grey wolf. Liam recognized the man because he was once part of Cohen’s pack. He was banished from the pack after he was found g
# Jazmine's memory"Are you sure this is what you wanted?" Mira asked her. They visited Stefano together despite the latter being busy handling his Council and the berserk werewolves that slowly made their recovery. Still, they would never be able to live a normal life like before."Liam is all I ever wanted, and you know that," Jazmine replied. "One day, old age will consume him, and I'll have to live on without him. I don't want that.""You know there's a price to pay," Stefano said. "You have to lose your power in return for giving up your immortality. It means you will give up for Godly traits to be a normal mortal being.""I can live without having any power," Jaz
"I'm immortal, Liam," Jazmine blurted the words right out just after Liam finished his shower in the morning. She had been gathering the courage to talk to him about it. But every time she wanted to talk about it, she couldn't say a word. She wanted to grow closer to Liam, loving him the way he loved her. But the miscommunication slowly caused a rift between them.Liam stood there, repeatedly blinking while trying to dry his dripping wet hair. The rift in the relationship wasn't that visible for everyone else to see, but it was visible for both of them."How are you taking it? That I'm immortal?" Jazmine asked, looking at him. They slept on the same bed. They grew accustomed to each other's presence, but the relationship had yet to move to the next b
A week later,"Have some rest, Anita." Jazmine pulled the duvet to cover her up.It had been a week since the court hearing. Anita was discharged from the hospital and recuperated in the pack mansion. Jazmine knew that inside, Anita was grateful for the decision of the courthouse despite it still wasn't the happiest news she had received. But, Mira fought for her just as much as Luna fought for a fair justice system.# TrialJahan collected all the documents from the seven Councilors, and he was looking through them one by one—make sure everything was in order."3 Councilors are in favor of the punishment," he revealed, putting the three documents to his right. Anita demanded the Enforcer drove her to the Council when she heard that the battle was won, and Rowan surrendered himself to the Council to answer his crimes. She knew that even though the Council was under a new system, there was still a high chance that she would never see him again, especially he was involved in the conspiracy to eradicate all supernatural species. Anita knew Mira was the deciding voter for Rowan's punishment. She was hoping that Mira would show a little bit of mercy."Rowan!" Anita shouted his name as soon as she arrived there at the same time as him.Rowan was handcuffed and escorted by Brandon into the building when she got there. They won the battle, but another one was about to happen—the battle for her mate. Anita was going to fight for Rowan if she had to. He was still her mate.Rowan kept his head low and murmured something to the Gamma. Brandon glanced at Anita for a second before he escorted Rowan into the building, and the g
For years, she lived as if she was a human. No matter how hard she tried, she could never be a human again. She was a human once, but now, she was no longer a human. She was the result of an experiment, something that was hard for her to swallow.Jazmine stood there in the back of her mind, surrounded by darkness. The loud voices had left her, and now, everything was in complete silence. There was nothing else left for her here. She didn't know what happened out there. Everything became blurry for her. The memories she had about her family and Uncle Richard had become a distant past and unreachable. She couldn't remember much about them anymore, as if someone deliberately erased those memories one by one."Jazmine...Jazmine...." Someone called from somewhere.Jazmine spun around and saw a beautiful woman dressed in white standing before her. Her hair was as white as snow and her eyes as blue as the sky. Her smile was dazzling, and her skin was glowing wit
# Mira's memory"The big boss is in there," Mira said, pointing to the tallest building in the realm.Sylas looked at her as if she had some loose screws in her head but remembering that Mira was the type of person who didn't shy away from dangers made Sylas rethink the plan once more."You're planning to kill the big boss?" Sylas asked.Mira didn't answer him. The entire plan had changed the moment Mira took the lead. She killed the Outer Angels along the way without feeling remorse about it. Nothing in the world could clean the blood that coated her hands since the day she decided to become Mira Red, the well-known redheaded huntress. This time she wasn't fighting for herself. She was fighting for Liam's happiness. Liam had sacrificed everything for her and Cohen. Mira thought it was about time she repaid Liam for that. She didn't care if she had to make a deal with an Outer being, but for as long as they got Jazmine back to Liam, that was all th
The doom shattered, but it wasn't quick enough to stop Jazmine from touching the Sword of the Doombringer. Abbadon's sneer laughter echoed throughout the realm, stopping everyone on their track. Jazmine was holding the sword with her head hung low with her body trembling as she laughed wickedly. There was no hint of the real Jazmine anymore. The laughter sounded like thousands of voices combined, and it sent shivers down everyone's spine. Abbadon looked pleased even though the outcome wasn't what she had anticipated, but it was better than nothing.Combined with Mira's dark manifestation, Jazmine's soul became corrupted, and she fell into the darkness. With the sword of the Doombringer's influence, Jazmine strayed further from the Path of Light."Mira," Cohen called as he stood next to his mate while the Alpha's heirs stood behind them."Luna, what's going on?" Liam asked. At first, it was the battle against the Knights of Death. Now, it was a batt
Jazmine grabbed the chain from the ground right before Abbadon swung the Sword of the Doombringer to her. The chain wrapped around the sword, and Jazmine dodged it just in time. As her skin continued to make contact with the chain, a voice inside her head laughed at her as if something had possessed her.Jazmine pulled away, staggering. The laughter grew stronger inside her mind. Something dark was lurking at the back of her mind causing her to be unable to think straight. Once in a while, the scene before her eyes kept shifting to a darker scene. Jazmine fell to the ground with her hands clenching. What was happening to her mind? Why did she keep seeing the destruction of the world? Why did she keep feeling the blood coated her hands as if she killed those people with her own hands?"Luna," Liam called as if he recognized what was happening to his mate. He looked to his side and noticed Mira was looking at Jazmine with intense eyes. The werewolves and their all
# Cohen's memory"Demon wolves," Stefano revealed to them the nature of their pups in Mira's bulging tummy. "All three of them are going to be born as demon wolves."Worries plastered on Cohen's face when the words sunk into his mind. This wasn't the first time he heard that his pups would be demon wolves when they were born. He had suspected it long ago, and also, Clavier hinted him the same thing. Hearing this suspicious had just added more worries in the Alpha. Not only because Clavier told him his pups would be stronger than Mira, but he also mentioned that the pups would be harder to control."This is very a rare case," the High Lord continued, "I've seen many births of hybrids during my time. They were either born as one of the parents' origin. Take an example of a hybrid of v
