CHAPTER FOUR

~DIMITRI~

As I massaged my temples, I couldn't help but recount what had happened during the past few years. I had finally had enough and needed anything that could take my kind off the tragedy.

“Alpha…” My Beta, Chase began but when he caught the sight of my glare from the front view mirror, he gulped and cleared his throat.

“I mean Mr Sanchez. Are you sure this is wise? You're their Alpha, they would need you” He tried to convince me that running away wasn't the best choice but I had already made up my mind.

“They would need you too and here you are following me around” I retorted and he scoffed.

“Someone has to keep an eye on you and admit it, you love that I'm here with you” He said and I rolled my eyes but before I could say something, my eyes caught sight of something…. A body laying down at the side of the road.

“What in the world…” Chase began, having seen the body as well.

“Stop the car” I ordered and his eyes widened.

“Alpha…”

“Chase” I growled and immediately, he stepped on the break and the car came to a halt.

I got out of the car in a hurry and couldn't explain why I was so drawn to help this person who could have already died.

Usually I would have driven past and not care about the dead because if they were dead then that meant that was their fate and nothing could be done but as soon as I got closer, my heart began to thump.

It was a woman and she was covered in blood, probably her own blood. I wasn't so sure.

“Sir, your gloves” Chase immediately reminded me and he handed me my gloves and I immediately wore them before squatting down and turning over the body.

I sucked in my breath as I stared at the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. I was mesmerized for a second before I reached over to check if she was dead or still breathing.

“She must have jumped from that cliff. That's a very high distance and I doubt she's…”

“I found her pulse, she's alive” My voice came out more like a relief. I hardly knew this woman and yet, yet I was glad she was alive.

I reached out and gathered her in my arms. We were too far from civilization.

If we were to take her to the hospital, she would probably die on the way and her wolf was too weak to help her at that moment.

“How… how on earth did she survive?” He questioned while I just stared at her. Her skin was pearly white and she had several bruises on her body and face but the ones on her face weren't so deep that they were going to leave a scar.

“The trees might have cushioned her fall” I replied as I slowly checked her body properly before my eyes fell on the mate mark on her neck and I frowned.

“Still, that's a miracle. We should get her to the hospital,” He uttered.

“Her pulse is weak, she'll die before we get her there” I told him and he frowned.

“Then should we leave her here?” He questioned and I pursed my lips. Maybe leaving her there would have been a better option but it was obvious that she wasn't meant to die now.

Why else would the moon goddess have made her survive such a fall?

“I’ll mark her and feed her my blood. That should speed up her healing process and awaken her wolf” I muttered and he gasped in disbelief.

“Alpha…”

“Stop fucking calling me Alpha, I'm no one's Alpha” I muttered through clenched teeth as I turned to glare at him before turning back to the woman in my arms.

“This isn't a good idea. It's never a good idea to force a mate bond. Please let's think about this. I'm sure we can find a hospital…”

“We are in the middle of fucking nowhere, Chase. If I don't do this, she'll die and I'm not about to let her die!” I told him before pushing her hair to the side as I leaned down.

I grazed her already marked neck with my fangs before biting down and I heard her whimper slightly before she went limp again.

I pulled away then immediately bit down on my wrist and pressed my bloody wrist against her lips.

“This isn't going to end well” Chase muttered and maybe he was right, maybe I would regret this later on but right now, I never wanted anything more than to save her.

~TWO MONTH LATER~

She was finally awake! When the doctors called me and told me the woman I had brought in was finally awake, I had immediately dropped everything and drove towards the hospital.

I had lost all hope. In fact, the Doctor had advised us not to hold on to hope because her bones had been severely broken and her brain wasn't active but she was awake and it surprised me at how happy I was even though she was practically a stranger.

I knew absolutely nothing about her and yet…

“Mr Sanchez, you're here. It's a miracle that she's awake but she has you to thank for that. Your blood and mark were what helped her make a full recovery” The Doctor announced and I subconsciously breathed out a sigh of relief.

“How is she now?” I questioned as we walked towards her room with Chase trailing behind.

“She has refused to talk but she has been awake for over an hour. We have tried everything but she wouldn't say a word” He informed me and I nodded as we paused in front of her door.

“I’ll see what I can do” I told him and he nodded before walking away.

“What exactly can you do? She doesn't know you” Chase uttered as soon as the doctor walked away and I glared at him before turning the door knob and walking into the room.

My breath hitched as I was once again captivated by how beautiful this woman was. All the bruises had healed on her face, exposing just how radiant she was.

She turned towards me and the dead look in her eyes made me falter on my steps but nevertheless, I walked towards her and slowly sat down on her bed.

“Hey. I'm Dimitri, you?” I questioned but she just kept staring at me. I let out a sigh as I turned to Chase who just shrugged.

“What’s your name? I need to know who you are so I can alert your family or pack…”

“I have no one, they're all dead” She choked out and my eyes widened slightly after hearing her voice.

“Oh, I'm sorry for your loss” I muttered, not knowing what else to say.

“I heard I lost my child” She suddenly said and my eyes widened before I frowned.

“Who told you that?” I questioned as I tried my best to keep the anger out of my voice. She just woke up and they were already delivering bad news to her?

I’ll have this mother fucking hospital shut down.

“It doesn't matter. It's a good thing it died, I won't want to be tied down by that monster” She suddenly uttered and my eyes widened.

“Hey…”

“Why did you save me?! You should have let me die! I wanted to die! Why?! Why did you save me?!” She screamed as tears rolled down my cheeks and I was up immediately, pulling her into my arms as I cradled her head on my chest.

“Shh it's okay, it's going to be okay” I murmured as softly as I could but she just kept screaming and crying in my arms.

I couldn't help but wonder what the hell had happened to this woman?...
