DOMINIK's POV

"Haul these bags into the storage room. Keep them by the very left with the cartons." I said to the wolves, who carried a bag of new food items on their shoulders.

They all nodded and did as I instructed. Today, we were stocking up and refilling our food items. This was usually the job of Luis and some other wolves under him, but due to his absence I had to take over. It had been over a month and I had no heard a word from neither Luis, nor Claire. And it worried me greatly.

I had this feeling, stuck in my chest that something bad had happened to them. I did not want to believe it however. I trusted Luis enough to protect my mate, but what was this feeling? This premonition running down my spine each time I thought about Claire? I exhaled and looked at the list of food items I held in my right hand.

I gave more orders until all the food items I had ordered were now placed safely in the store house. I walked back to the pack house with only one person on my mind.

Claire.

CLAIRE's POV"Wind eagles?" I questioned as I stared at the spell book.It was a wind spell, one I had no idea existed. I read through the description and saw that you could summon eagles made out of wind with this spell. I sighed and read through the chant. My mind zoned out mid way and the words blurred out. I let out a frustrated groan and my eyes trailed to the wall clock. It was a little after 2am and I was not even hallway into learning the spells.Frustrated and tired, I dumped the spell book on the bedside table and pushed myself out of bed. I knew that if I laid down on the bed, sleep would not come. I walked over to the door and cracked it open the slowly. I peered out into the hallway and saw that it was empty. I quietly exited my room and tiptoed down the hallway.I went down the stairs, having no idea where I was going. I immediately recalled that there was a woods beside the main building and this was a nice time to go for a run. I quietly exited the building and walked

CLAIRE's POVI kept my eyes fixed on Emmaline. I was in utter shock and disbelief. Emmaline was my sparring partner? This made no sense. Was I supposed to engage her in combat? I grimaced inwardly. But it made sense. She was practicing by 2am because she knew that she was going to engage me in combat. All the excitement I had before coming here was no more. I did not have to zeal to fight Emmaline, rather, I did not want to engage her in combat. From the way she ignored me, it was obvious that she detested me at this point and fighting her was not the smartest choice."Can I change my sparring partner?" I inquired as I looked at my aunt.Aunt Axera shook her head and I went grim instantly."You do not have a right to change sparring partners. I have chosen Emmaline, and you will fight her this instance. Take your stance."I blinked at her. Did she just say, take your stance? We were going to fight now? Emmaline did not hesitate. She walked over to the middle of the training grounds an

CLAIRE's POVTossing and turning in the bed seemed to have become the new norm for me each night. Last time I could not fall asleep because of how excited I was, but now, it was a completely different case. The humiliation I had suffered in the hands of Emmaline haunted my mind. The moment I slid my eyes shut, the whole scene would replay in my head. The way she had brutally defeated me with even allowing me to put a single scratch on her was baffling. She was faster, stronger and overall, better than. Just how had she gotten to that level? As much as I hated to admit it, Emmaline was strong, and I was not even on her level.I slammed my fists into the pillow as frustrating overwhelmed me. I wanted to get better and stronger, but it only seemed like I was doing the exact opposite.I pushed myself up into the sitting position and my eyes roamed around the room. The lights had been switched off, and the only source of illumination was the moonlight flowing in through the window. The roo

CLAIRE's POVThe next few days were filled with non stop training. Aunt Axera made my training as hard and gruesome as possible. I did not have any other sparring partner, except for her.She made me engage her in battle multiple times, and of course I was brutally beaten. Day in and day out I sparred with her, in hopes that maybe I could defeated even once, but the overwhelming difference in strength made me lose hope after the second try.All I was left with were small bruises and sore muscles. Was this training even going to make me get better? It only made me feel worse. Aunt Axera always won without even giving me a chance to land a hit on her.It made the rage within me heighten. Why did she want me to keep fighting her everyday? Was this a way for her to show off her powers? I scoffed. The thought made me even more angry."Claire! You are getting distracted!" Aunt Axera's voice broke me out of my trance and I came back to the reality of my situation. I had zoned into my though

CLAIRE's POV"Claire." I spun around at the sound of my name. I looked around, a bit agitated, but there was no one in sight. I was the only one present in the cave, so who had called out to me."Claire."I paused and slowly turned back to the book. I heard my name again, but this time, I could tell where it was coming from. It was coming from the book. I tilted my head and gazed at the book with awe and confusion. How was it speaking to me?It called out to me again, softly. It's voice seemed to be pulling me, enticing me, tempting me to take it. I became entranced by this weird book. It wanted me, only me. I reached out to it slowly, but stopped mid way. What on earth was I doing? I swallowed and turned my back away from the book, but it called to me once again, this time with a sweeter voice."Claire,"I jumped and snapped my head towards the book, my eyes so wide, I feared that they would pop out of my skull. The book has called out to me, but with Dominik's voice. It called my

AXERA's POVI sat at the bottom of the stands, my eyes scanning the training grounds, waiting eagerly for Claire. It was 45 minutes past the time for training and she was no where to be found. Where was she? Was she slacking off? I shook my head. That was impossible. I could tell that she hated the training so much, but considering how much she wanted to improve and get stronger, I knew that there was no way she would miss practice. But her lateness worried me. I glanced at my wristwatch for the tenth time and let out a frustrated sigh. Where on earth was Claire?"Miss Axera, are you sure she is coming for training today?" The girl who sat beside me chirped.I turned my eyes to her. Her name was Giselle, the witch I had picked to be Claire's sparring partner today. She was one of my students and could cast grade three spells. She was a very strong witch, and one I was proud of. I wanted Claire to fight someone way stronger than her, as a way to push her to her limits. It was once sai

AXERA's POVOris. A name that every witch dared not to utter. It was a forbidden name and also a feared one. It belonged to a being that was discovered while I was still in my early twenties. The dark totem was a book that had been discovered, laying deep in underground caves. The witches had all thought it was a spell book, but the words written on it were foreign and seemed ancient. With the empress's orders, the book was taken under intense study. The witch that handled the research was a very skilled one. She took months researching the book and we were all in hopes that the new spell book could be a way to enhance our powers. That way, the clan would no longer be seen as a weak one and it would get the respect it so deserved. The witches had been hungry for power and that had made them commit a terrible mistake. They eventually found out about Oris, after he had possessed the witch that led the research. He revealed himself as a demon that inhabited the dark totem. He pried on

CLAIRE's POVMy head was ringing and it felt like it had been hit by a very large object. The throbbing brought my consciousness back slowly. I cracked my heavy eyelids open and my head seemed to hurt even more. But that was not the only place that hurt.My whole body felt broken and in shambles. It felt like I had done some kind of tedious work. My blurry vision cleared after minutes and my eyes was met with an unfamiliar flower patterned ceiling.Where was I?I turned to my side and saw a small table. On the table were bottles filled with what I assumed were magic potions. My eyes moved down to my body and I finally realised that I was laying down on a bed.My memory was hazy, but I tried my best to recall what had happened that eventually led to me being here. I met up with Aunt Axera at the training grounds, met my sparring partner and we began to fight. But then I chanted the words Oris had given me. I bit my lips as they quivered. The damn book.
