Semion was stunned when Celeste wanted to go home without asking for anything in exchange for saving his life.
It was obvious he was wealthy, as seen just from his mansion. So why didn’t the woman take the opportunity to ask for material things?
“Are you sure that’s all you want?” he asked, his tone serious. “You’re asking for less than the bare minimum. My life is worth a mansion, nice cars, and money. Just name your reward.”
“I don’t need any of that. I just want to go home and get a ride because I don’t know where I am. I’ve been missing for a week, and someone is looking for me.”
What the heck? Semion wondered if the woman was also wealthy to refuse his offers. But if she were wealthy, she should be even more demanding, not less, than someone poor asking for a large sum or territory.
“Where exactly do you want to go home?” he asked, scrutinizing her. “To your husband? I thought you’d already been abandoned.”
Celeste hesitated briefly before responding. “I still need to go home.”
Where's the logic in that? Semion couldn’t understand Celeste’s thinking.
To him, if a husband leaves his wife in a dangerous place over a big argument, the wife should be more than willing to walk away from his life.
If it were his mother, his father would have been shattered by now. His mother was not someone you could mistreat.
What a stupid woman...
He sighed deeply, closing his eyes. “When do you want to go home then?”
“Tomorrow!” The excitement in her voice was palpable. “If possible, could you take me home as soon as tomorrow?”
“Sure.” He stood up, having lost interest in the married woman. “Go and rest. We’ll leave before sunset tomorrow.”
“Thank you so much!” Celeste’s face lit up, and a sincere smile appeared on her lips.
Semion stared at her for a moment before looking away.
She looks so fine, even in the dark. With her medium-sized brunette hair, a small face that could be covered by his palm, charming eyes, and thin, pinkish lips. Too bad she's stupid enough to go back to her husband, who abandoned her.
He had completely lost interest. What a shame.
When he returned to his own room, he saw Diego still kneeling in the corner of the room.
“Boss! How’s it going? Did you see Miss Celeste?”
“Yeah,” Semion relaxed back onto his bed and stared at the ceiling. “Go out. I need to rest.”
Diego furrowed his brow as he stood up. He wanted to ask what had been discussed between them but noticed that his boss seemed tired and decided to leave him alone.
Before dusk, Celeste was dressed in a new white dress provided by a maid at Semion’s mansion.
In truth, she wasn’t eager to return to the Allegra mansion but was anxious and fearful of what Darson might do to her.
Nevertheless, she needed to plead one last time. If they took her back, she’d be overjoyed, but if not, she’d have to accept it and leave with Anna.
“Miss Celeste,” the driver opened the black car door. “Please get in, and we’ll head out.”
“Thank you.” She quietly took her seat in the back.
The driver got in and started the engine, driving off.
“Rest for now, Miss Celeste. We have a long journey ahead.”
“Okay,” she responded politely to the elderly driver.
By the next morning, she had already given him her address. She didn’t realize it would be a three-hour drive from this place.
She estimated they’d arrive late, so she closed her eyes and comfortably leaned back in the car seat.
ON THE OTHER HAND, after the car Celeste was in had left, another black car discreetly followed, carrying Semion and Diego.
“Boss, why are we following her again?” Diego asked, puzzled.
“What? Do you really think I would just trust someone so easily?” Semion responded meaningfully. “That woman saved my life and acted as if it were nothing. We need to find out if her story about her ‘husband’ is true.”
“Then why didn’t you just send a team or even me to do that? Why do you need to investigate personally, even though you’re still recovering?” Diego asked, full of concern and curiosity.
Semion paused and sneered. “Just shut up. I’m the boss here. I do whatever I want.”
“...”
Diego thought. Celeste was beautiful. But she was married. Surely, his boss wouldn’t be interested in someone who was already married, right?
Primo Semion avoided scandals in the upper class to protect his reputation and keep the secrets of his clandestine organization hidden.
For a long time, the Lombardi family had been targeted by hot-headed families wanting to bring them down, so they avoided anything that could endanger them.
Even though people still gossiped about his personal life, it wasn’t severe enough to tarnish his carefully guarded name.
With Semion’s clean background, many families wanted to form alliances with him through marriage.
How many marriage proposals had he turned down? One wrong choice of family could lead to the downfall of their secret organization and legal businesses. In the worst-case scenario, it could mean their destruction by the family he married into.
“I think we’re here.” Semion spoke seriously as the car they were following came to a stop.
They watched Celeste get out of the car and stand in front of the large mansion.
Semion’s eyebrows furrowed in realization. “She comes from a rich family, Diego.”
“Huh?” Diego looked puzzled. “Of course. The Allegra family is rich. Didn’t you know that?”
“What?” Semion’s forehead creased further as he stared at his subordinate. “We’re in the Allegra’s territory? You’re saying she’s an Allegra?? That damn family?!”
The Allegra family was known for their arrogance, greed, and brazen demeanor.
The family had been blacklisted by the Lombardis since the time of his grandfather.
“Didn’t you know? I thought you talked to Miss Celeste last night. Didn’t she mention that she’s Costa and Allegra?” Diego asked.
Semion blinked several times. He had assumed the woman was of commoner status based on her behavior and demeanor.
She looks so timid and naive. She almost cried in front of him, which someone from a well-known family would never do to a stranger from the upper class.
“The Celeste Costa I know is arrogant.” Semion said seriously. “From what I remember, I’ve heard her name a thousand times. She’s someone dignified, arrogant, and elegant—every man’s dream wife. You’re telling me that fragile woman over there is her??”
“Tsk, tsk!” Diego shook his head. “You’re outdated! Celeste Costa has been married to Allegra for a long time. Since then, there’s been no news about her, especially after the Costa family fell.”
Semion had been busy expanding their organization into different countries, so he had forgotten basic details about people in the upper class.
“I didn’t know that.” He focused his attention back on Celeste, who was now ringing the doorbell at the large gate. “Let’s see what happens—”
His mouth dropped open as he saw a man come out of the gate and immediately slap Celeste, causing her to fall onto the pavement!
“What the hell?!” he exclaimed in shock.
“What…” Even Diego couldn’t believe what he saw.
"How dare you come back here?!" Darson shouted angrily at Celeste.Celeste remained on the cold, dirty cement, trembling with intense fear. Before she could even speak or beg to return, this was the reception she faced."You've got some nerve!" Priscilla snapped, emerging from the gate. "Don't you have any shame, Celeste? What made you think of coming back here after hurting Chiarra?!""I already told you, Celeste, never to show your face in front of me again! Do you have no self-respect? We’re separated! Do you want me to announce it to the world and humiliate you?!"Her long nails dug into her palms. Her eyes were red, but no tears fell. She struggled to get up from where she had fallen.Memories of the Allegra family, especially Priscilla, treating her well played in her mind. Priscilla had cared for her like a second mother. From the age of thirteen, she was spoiled and showered with sweet words. The Allegra family became her second home.Darson was always by her side back then, a
"You..." Darson exclaimed, lowering his gun in astonishment. "Primo Semion Lombardi?! What in the world..."Semion paid no mind to the bewildered Darson and turned his attention to Celeste, who was struggling to catch her breath. He gently took her right arm and helped her to her feet. She felt as fragile as a leaf in the wind, so he supported her waist and leaned her against him for stability."A-Anna... where are you... Anna?" Celeste whispered weakly, tears streaming down her face as she clung to Semion.Semion kept his gun aimed at Darson from a distance, his eyes burning with fury."Where's she? This Anna?" he demanded of Darson, his tone deadly serious.Darson looked utterly bewildered and frantic, probably wondering why Semion was interfering. But Semion couldn't care less."Spill it," Semion growled, his finger twitching on the trigger."What the..." Darson stammered, still trying to process the situation."Aaahh!! How dare you?!" An older woman, fear and anger etched on her f
"Anna, I'm sorry... please forgive me, Anna..." Celeste's cries filled the dark and filthy room. "I-I take the blame for everything. If only I had listened to you from the beginning... please forgive me... don't abandon me, Anna... I can't handle this alone... please don't go... I can't bear it! Aaahh!!"Hours passed, and Celeste couldn't bring herself to approach the body of her loyal maid, the one who had been her confidante and source of solace. She was the last lifeline Celeste clung to. The last hope of having someone by her side as they parted ways with the Allegra family. But instead, she found a cold, lifeless body. Despite her denial, she knew deep down that it was Anna."Anna!! Why are you doing this to me?! I-I'm begging you... why do people always leave me?! E-Everyone... what did I do wrong... w-why me... Anna!" Her hands shook, unable to touch Anna's motionless form, overwhelmed by fear, vulnerability, and anguish. She collapsed, her entire body slumping against her arms
"Boss, it's been a month, and Miss Celeste hasn't budged from her bed. Are we just going to let her stew in there?" Diego voiced his concern.Meanwhile, Semion remained buried in the documents Diego had handed him, delving into the Allegras and Costas affairs."Just let her be," he reclined comfortably, crossing his legs on the table. "You can't rush someone who's grieving. She'll emerge when she's good and ready.""But aren't we wasting precious time? Are you certain everyone will be onboard with your plan? We've got all the paperwork sorted; we're just twiddling our thumbs waiting for her," Diego persisted."Stop fretting, Diego. We're not on a time crunch. Healing takes time, just like these darn scars all over my body," Semion gestured to his scars. "Plus, she's lost everything now; it'll be a tough nut to crack for her.""Alright, boss.""Just make sure to keep tabs on her. If she decides to take the final curtain call, all our hard work will go up in smoke.""Yes, boss. Miss Cel
Inside Semion's office, the only sound breaking the silence was the rhythmic tapping of his fingers on the desk. His gaze was fixed intently on Celeste, who squirmed under his scrutiny, feeling the weight of embarrassment. Semion lounged back in his chair, one hand propped up, and she couldn’t decipher his expression."Um..." She couldn’t muster the courage to meet his gaze. "I-I’m sorry... I thought it was all just a dream. I didn’t mean to. I apologize for barging into the bar room without permission and messing with your expensive alcohol. I’m really sorry for being rude and even vomiting on you! I’m truly sorry!"If she could have sunk into the floor out of embarrassment, she would have. But she had no choice but to face the consequences of her shameless behavior from the previous night. Semion sighed. "How are you feeling?""Huh?" She blinked for a moment, then looked up at him. "I’m okay. Thank you for understanding and for your staff’s proper treatment. I appreciate it.""Are y
"Tell me!" Celeste's nails dug into his hand as she stared into his eyes filled with desperation. "What did they do to my parents?! To my brother?!" Anger flared in her eyes. "They already took Anna away from me!! I will never forgive them for that!! But why, what did they do to my family?!"Though surprised by the anger emanating from the usually timid and gentle woman, Semion didn't show it on his face. He remained serious."From the beginning, your marriage to Darson Allegra was a trap," Semion stated, recounting the truth based on all the information he had gathered and his personal investigation. "You probably know there's a long history of conflict between the Costas and the Allegras. But your family made a wrong decision by forming an alliance with them. Your family fell into their trap the moment they agreed to marry you off to their heir."He saw tears welling up in Celeste's eyes, but he continued speaking."For them, that marriage and business merger were just the first ste
Celeste's pause lingered after hearing Semion's words. She had been mulling them over, wondering if he was genuinely serious about his marriage proposal. She gasped, her earlier attempts to stifle her sobs coming to an abrupt halt."Marriage?" she uttered, incredulous. "Do you realize what marrying me would mean for you?"In truth, Celeste no longer cared about what Semion asked of her after he helped her. If it meant sacrificing her own dignity as a woman, she'd let him claim her, as long as she could exact her desired revenge. Because all she had left to offer was herself. But marriage hadn't crossed her mind. Firstly, what decent man would marry someone who'd been previously married? Secondly, what respectable heir of an influential family would marry someone from a fallen background like hers? Thirdly, didn't he realize she couldn't bear children, even if he wanted to have an heir with her? But wouldn't it be more fitting for him to marry someone else? Many questions raced through
"Here's our marriage contract," Semion said, offering the organized papers to Celeste with a smile. "Read it aloud. If there's anything you want to add or change, let me know immediately."The papers contained agreements they must follow in this upcoming marriage."This contract is entered into between Primo Semion Lombardi and Celeste Costa on September, 2024," Celeste read aloud from the first sentence."Continue," Semion said, settling opposite her.Her eyes focused on the first section. "Public appearance. Both parties were expected to act as a committed couple in public, projecting an image of love and devotion to their friends, acquaintances, and the world at large…?" She glanced at Semion with curiosity. He nodded. "That's right. When we're in public, we have to show that our relationship is real. We hold hands, hug, and even peck a kiss at worst. You know how socialization works; if people even sense a hint of suspicion, they'll start gossiping.""Well... if it gets out in pub
