Derek's POV
Derek paced back and forth in his living room, his mind racing with thoughts of what to do next. Immediately after Darius left, he had sent spies out, and within an hour, they returned.
His spies had just delivered their reports, each one bringing new information that both confirmed his suspicions and added to his growing unease.
He believed Alpha Darius, his long-time rival, had faked his coma and was planning to take Serena, as his wife.
The thought made Derek's blood boil with anger. How could Darius return from the coma and attack him in such a way? When he was so bent on taking her.
The first spy, Jacob, cleared his throat nervously before speaking. "Alpha Derek, I have discovered that Alpha Darius is indeed awake, and he had chosen Serena as his wife. He would do anything for her."
Derek's jaw clenched at the news. "Thank you, Jacob. Keep me updated on any further developments." He dismissed the first spy and turned to the next one.
Emma, the second spy, shifted her weight from foot to foot as she spoke. "Alpha Derek, it seems that Serena may have her own motives in this situation. She might consider using Alpha Darius to exact revenge on you for past grievances."
Derek's heart sank at the thought of Serena turning against him. He had always thought his coup was strong enough to withstand any outside threats. "Thank you, Emma. I will have to speak with Serena and find out the truth of her intentions." He nodded to dismiss her and turned to the third spy.
Mark, the third spy, stepped forward and hesitated before speaking. "Alpha Derek, rumors are circulating that Alpha Darius still has full control over the Crimson Pack. It seems he is not as weak as we thought."
Derek cursed under his breath. If Darius still had control over his pack, then taking him down would be a much more difficult task. "Thank you, Mark. We will have to proceed with caution in dealing with Darius and his pack." He dismissed the third spy and turned to the fourth and final spy.
Sarah, the last spy, stood with a look of concern on her face. "Alpha Derek, I have heard conflicting reports about the situation. Some say that Darius is in full control, while others claim he is weak and vulnerable. It is hard to know what to believe."
Derek sighed and ran a hand through his hair, feeling the weight of the situation bearing down on him. "Thank you, Sarah. I will have to gather more information before we can make a plan of action." He dismissed the final spy and sank into his chair, contemplating his next move.
It was clear to Derek that he could no longer sit back and wait for Darius to make the first move. He needed to confront his rival head-on and protect both Serena and his pack from any potential harm. With a determined look in his eyes, Derek stood up and headed out of the office, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
After the spy had left, Derek called a council meeting and in the next hour, they gathered in the large hall beneath his house.
The air was tense as he took his seat at the head of the table, where the alphas traditionally sat. The council elders gathered around him, their faces etched with concern.
"Doom awaits us," Derek began, his voice low and grave. The elders exchanged worried glances, a sense of foreboding settling over the room.
"What is the matter, Alpha?" one of the council elders finally spoke up, breaking the heavy silence that had descended upon them.
"Darius is not in a coma. He is back on his feet. He has taken Serena as his wife," Derek revealed, his words weighted with disbelief and anger. The council elders gasped in shock, their expressions turning into ones of outrage and concern.
"Well, I thought Darius is as good as dead. He can't do anything to harm you," one of the council elders declared, trying to offer reassurance to Derek.
But Derek shook his head, a steely look in his eyes as he stood up from his seat. "I saw Darius. He came to my house when I took Serena from the hospital where he had left her. He threatened me and said I would die if I laid a finger on her again. You know what that means. A threat to me is a threat to me is a threat to us all.”
The council elders fell silent, the gravity of the situation sinking in.
“None of you has anything to say?” Derek asked in anger. “Y'all were there during the coup. You supported me when I brought the idea and we are together in this. If Serena and Darius team up, we all are down.”
After a moment, one of the elders known for his wise counsel spoke up. "Alpha, Darius wants an heir. That is why he has taken Serena as his wife. If she becomes pregnant, you can claim the child as yours. At least she was with you for a while. We can use this to our advantage, causing an uproar in his pack. And when the time is right, we will strike."
Derek's eyes lit up with a dangerous glint as he considered the elder's words. A smirk played at the corner of his lips. "That's a nice plan," he agreed, his mind already working out the details of their scheme. “Sit on that one. Let's see the possibility of the scheme.”
And so, the council of elders began to plot their next move, their minds focused on the opportunity that had presented itself in the form of Darius taking Serena as his wife.
They revealed to Derek that they would need to play their cards right, biding their time until the perfect moment to strike and take back the spot that Derek had maintained for a day, as the biggest alpha in town.
“Alpha, the chances are high that it would work. For an alpha like Darius who wants a hier, he'll give up everything to make it happen. Also, if we play our cards wrong, we might…”
“Hold!” Derek ordered. “We will tear them apart.”
Serena's POV As I stepped into Darius's lavish mansion, I couldn't help but be in awe of its grandeur. He was rich just as the news had it.The marble floors gleamed under the soft glow of the chandeliers, and the walls were adorned with intricate tapestries and paintings. Darius led me through the opulent rooms, showing me every corner of his abode with pride. Finally, we ended up in a spacious living room where Darius handed me a stunning silvery gown. "You'll meet the leaders of the respective outposts of my pack tonight, Serena," he said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "I'll introduce you as my queen."I felt a rush of nerves and anticipation as I slipped into the gown he gave me, the fabric cool against my skin.Darius made a phone call to his mother, and soon after, ten men entered the room and gathered around us. "This is my Luna, Serena," Darius announced. "She will be my right hand from now on."The men bowed before me, a gesture of respect that sent a shiver down my sp
Serena's POVThe following morning, I awoke early to make breakfast for Darius after spending the night alone in the king-size bed.As he ate, Darius made calls to his captains, ensuring that everything was in order. I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as I watched him, wondering what the day would bring. After breakfast, Darius said the first word to me since the previous night. “We are going to see my mother, the grand Luna of the Crimson Pack.”Darius took me to the grand Luna of the Crimson pack, his mother. We walked through the pack grounds, the members bowing their heads in respect as we passed. I felt a sense of apprehension as we made our way to her presence. Would they always treat me with this level of respect, or was it only because I was with Darius? But the answer was there, it would be just for a year.As we entered the grand Luna's chambers, Darius instructed me, "Talk when you are being talked to, Serena. Show respect at all times."I nodded, feeling a mix of n
Serena's POVAfter we arrived back at Darius' mansion, I couldn't shake off the chill that had settled in my bones. The respect that I was accorded as the Luna, as well as the icy reception from Darius' mother, had been a mixed homecoming for m,e, and it left me feeling unsettled and unsure of where I stood in this whole arrangement.Darius had been unstable. He shouted at me the previous night and this morning, he was so cold so much that he apologized. But his mother was such a terror, and she seemed more in control.I sat on the cushion and sipped from a cup that I had been offered by one of the maids. Again, I wanted to ask questions. Ask him why I was treated that way but all I had to do was wait. Maybe he would bring himself to explain the same way he did earlier. When Darius noticed my silence, he asked me what was wrong."What is wrong with you, Serena? You're so cold,” he said as he stood before me.I wasted no time. “I thought you were the only one who knew about the contrac
Serena's POVAs the first rays of sunlight filtered through the curtains, I stirred awake, cocooned in warmth. I blinked against the soft light, my eyes slowly adjusting to the sight of Darius sleeping beside me.There was something profoundly comforting about waking up next to him, wrapped in the gentle embrace of his arms. I felt safe and cherished as if the world outside our little bubble had melted away.Darius shifted slightly, his eyes fluttering open. A sleepy smile spread across his face when he saw me, and my heart flipped. I couldn’t help but smile back. “Good morning,” he murmured, his voice husky with sleep.“Good morning,” I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. He leaned in, brushing his lips against mine, a tender kiss that sent warmth radiating through my body. I savored the moment, feeling the connection between us deepen. “I enjoyed last night,” he said, his eyes sparkling with sincerity. My cheeks flushed, and I felt a smile bloom on my face. “Me too,” I admitte
Serena's POV“Hey, Sam, how are you?” Darius motioned towards Sam who stood to greet him too. The two locked hands in the way of the pack, and Sam bowed a bit as he regarded Darius, “Alpha.”Darius then took his seat in the living room and sighed.“What happened?” I asked and Darius huffed again.I could sense the tension in the air as soon as he walked into the living room. I knew him. His look and all. With the little time we've spent together, I could easily tell if he was all right or not."Darius, is everything all right?" I asked again, placing a hand on his shoulder. He turned to look at me, his eyes troubled. "My uncle, Alex, he's back," he whispered, his voice barely above a murmur. My heart plummeted at the mention of Alexz. I had heard stories about him from Darius before – how he was a ruthless man, always causing trouble for the family. He had also told me about how Alex sought to take over the pack from Darius, which was the reason I was contracted to mate with Darius.S
Serena POVI will never forget the day my whole life fell apart. The day I lost everything I had ever loved. It had been a beautiful evening, and I had just spent all day in my gallery, located at the center of our pack, blissfully sketching a portrait of my handsome, talented, and charming fiancé —Derek. It was supposed to be my two year anniversary gift to him. Last year’s anniversary was amazing, but this year’s anniversary was made even much better by the fact that my boyfriend — the same one who had vowed to never get married— had just asked me to marry him last night!Words couldn’t explain the amount of sheer joy in my heart. That’s why I decided to channel my emotions into painting this portrait, with the hopes that he would see it and realize that even though we weren’t fated mates, I loved him terribly, and he meant everything to me.No really, Derek literally meant the world to me, I had never loved anyone this much in my entire life, and considering how much my pack neglec
Serena POVOn my way to the hospital, my phone began to blare with a call from my stepmother and my body immediately tensed up with dread.Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate my stepmother, and I don’t think she hates me too, our relationship was quite cordial at best, but anytime she or anyone else in my family, went through the trouble of calling me, then you knew that there was a very very big problem. My family didn’t usually speak to me, infact, I was more of a casual acquaintance to them than someone they cared about. And it had been that way, ever since my mother died, and my father remarried. When he married Luna Louise, my stepmother, she came with her daughter Stephanie who was already my age. The minute my father saw Stephanie, he transferred all his time, energy, and fatherly love to her.He said since I was just a useless Omega, there was no point wasting time training me when it was my husband that would inherit the pack not me.I was immediately pushed to the background.
Serena POVI was finding it very hard to process what she had just told me. What did she mean by they had signed papers to marry me off to a disabled man who was still unconscious? This surely had to be a cruel trick or maybe I was going mad.“I don’t understand. What exactly are you saying? Why would you sign anything for me without telling me?!” I yelled.“Oh shut the hell up!” My stepmother— Louise snapped.“How do you think we can afford to even pay for your father’s medical bills? Did you think we had hidden money somewhere?” She taunted me. “No! Every single penny we have was taken by that wretched good for nothing man you brought into our lives!” She snapped back.“Don’t ever forget that this is all your fault.” Louise continued, “And all we are telling you to do now is to marry and have children for a harmless disabled man for the good of the family and you’re being selfish.”I couldn’t believe that this was even real. That I was even having such an absurd conversation with my
