Melanie’s POV

I wasn't in the mood to go home yet so an idea struck me when I was walking out of the hospital after my shift.

“Good evening, Ms. Jones,” Ralph greeted as usual. “Hope you had a nice shift.”

He normally doesn’t ask me questions about my work so I knew what he really meant was whether I enjoyed my time with Aria.

"You don't get to ask me questions when I'm still mad at you," I responded.

He nodded. “Fair enough. Ready to go home?”

“Actually, I don’t want you to drive me home yet,” I said.

He frowned. “Your shift is over and you don’t have any plans,” he said.

"And when did you become my boss?" I asked.

"I'm not but I am responsible for your safety which means knowing everything that has to do with you," he said.

“You’re annoying, have I told you that before?”

“I know now,” he answered. “Please get in the car, let me take you home.”

Like I said earlier, it depends on the shade of gray," she replied. "I've lived on this earth long enough to know there is more to this world than just good or evil and most times, we need the gray area. The gray area allows us to make mistakes, and realize and recover from those mistakes. Some people survive in the gray area and there's nothing wrong with that."“So when does it become a problem?”“It becomes a problem when innocent people are involved especially if you derive joy from hurting the said innocent people. Melanie’s POVRalph helped me carry my bags inside the house but he didn’t go past the living room. He dropped the bag at the foot of the stairs and left after a bidding Alice and I a quick goodbye.“What’s the bag for?” Alice asked, eyeing the bag suspiciously.“Why? Do you think it’s a bomb?”“Don’t joke about things like that, Melanie,” she said.I laughed and shook my head. “Nothing of the sort. I just stopped by my apartment to grab a few of my things,” I said.“Were you running out of clothes here?” she asked. “I thought your closet was fully stocked.”“Yes, the closet was fully stocked and the clothes re beautiful. More expensive than I’ve ever owned in my entire life but I wanted my own clothes. Something that was mine so I stopped by my apartment and had tea with Phoebe,” I explained.“But you saw Phoebe yesterday,” she said.“I know that but there’s no hard rule that states

Melanie’s POVI didn't realize I wasn't saying anything until, Mom said, "Hello… are you still there?"I cleared my throat and replied, “Uhm… yes, I am. Sorry about that I got a little distracted.”“That’s okay, but did you hear my question,” she asked.“Could you repeat it?” I demanded, wanting to be sure that I heard her right."I asked if you would like to come home for Thanksgiving," she said.A few weeks ago, I would have been elated. Scratch that, I would have been over the moon an jumping on the chance to see my family but now, as much as I wanted to see them, I didn’t have the freedom to say yes.I could literally feel, Mom’s impatience through the phone, she was anxious for my answer and I had to be careful with my next words."I would love to come home for Thanksgiving, Mom," I replied slowly.“This wasn’t the kind of reaction I was expecting when I asked you the question s

Melanie’s POVBy the time I got downstairs, Alice had already set out my food on the dining table.“That took a while,” she said.“I know, got a phone call from my parents,” I replied. “You didn’t have to set my food on the dining table, I could have eaten with you in the kitchen like we always do.”“No, I thought it would be nice if we ate together in a different setting but I got tired of waiting for you so I ate first,” she explained.“That’s okay, I understand, as long as you keep me company while I eat. I don’t think I’m ready to be alone,” I answered.“That’s not a problem,” she replied.I sat down and stared at the spread on the table. “Wow, you really went all out for dinner tonight and it all looks delicious,” I complimented.Alice took a seat across from me, smiling. “Thank you dear, I made rice and peas. Melanie’s POV I stared at, Alice expecting her to react to what I just said but she gave me nothing. Only took a sip of her tea and stared into space.“You’re not saying anything, Alice. That’s scary,” I said.“I don’t know what you want me to say,” she replied.“Just say something, anything apart from this silence would be great,” I begged.“I’m trying to figure out why you would look so sad about the prospect of seeing your family,” she said. “Don’t you want to see them?”“Of course I want to see them,” I replied.“Then I don’t see what the problem is. You should be happy.”“I guess it’s pretty obvious what the problem is,” I said.Alice stared at me with a blank expression on her face.“I can’t go for obvious reasons,” I said waving a hand around the house.“Because of, Mr. Alfonso?” she asked and I nodded. She smiled and shook her head. “When are you ever g

Adriano’s POVI like to think of myself as a somewhat patient man, but Melanie has been testing my patience for a while now and I was just about done with this shit.Whoever said patience was a virtue didn’t know what the fuck they were talking about. When she came down this morning, looking tired and sleep-deprived, I felt so guilty because I had kept her up till late and probably messed with her sleep schedule. I felt somewhat better when, Ralph reported to me that, Aria went to have lunch with her in the hospital. At least I was so sure she wasn't skipping her meals even though what I really wanted was to be with her. Then Ralph called in the evening and told me she was insisting on going to her apartment and I let her go because I was still making up for last night. However, my patience died the moment I came into the house and saw the shirt she was wearing.A proper glance at it and I immediately knew that the shir

Melanie’s POVI didn’t expect such an intense reaction from, Adriano. In fact, I didn’t think there was even a cause to make a big deal but boy did he prove me wrong. Not only was he freaking mad, he also looked ready to take the shirt off me by himself. Thankfully, I was able to use the distraction caused by, Alice to escape him. If not for her, Adriano would have succeeded in stripping off my shirt in the middle of the living room. And the thing that shocked me the most was that, even though I was surprised and a lot confused by his intense reaction, I would have let him take the shirt off me. The only reasonable explanation I had for his behavior was jealousy.Adriano was jealous of a man he had never even met. Albeit, the man was my dad but it made me feel flutters in my belly and I smiled at the memory of it.Hopefully, now that he knew the shirt belonged to my father, he would let me wear it in peace. The sound of a knock on my door distracted me and I groaned.I honestly would

Ava p.o.v “Ava!” Tricia yelled from the living room for the twentieth time. Tricia is my roommate turned best friend, we met in our first week of resumption. I needed a roommate, so she offered I stay with her even though she wasn't looking for one. Mom must have liked Tricia at first sight because she agreed without hesitation, saying for a young girl to live alone is very dangerous. My mom can be extremely protective when it comes to her kids, but let's face it, which mother won't turn a tigress when it comes to her kids? So I don't blame her for being overprotective, even though it's driving me crazy at times. So for the past two years, I've been living with this wild wolf, shhh, don't tell her I say that, or I'm dead meat. Tricia can be sweet and caring when she wants to be, she has a heart of gold, the best roommate I could ever ask for. But occasionally, her big sister mode kicks in, and she becomes wild, but I love her. “What?” I asked innocently, I could practically se
