TYLER's POV
"I'm so glad you considered my suggestion, Tyler." Mr. Clark smiled brightly. He was currently teaching an Algebra. Luckily, his class was busy discussing something for their group projects, chatting away, unable to hear our conversation.
"What do I need to do, Mr. Clark?" I asked feeling nervous.
He smiled and took out a pen and a paper. It was a chart with dozens of student's names.
"We will assign you a tutor and then you can both can figure out a schedule to follow. It would be pretty simple, let me see." He adjusted his eyeglasses and tapped the pencil onto the wooden desk and scanned through the names on the paper. I waited to see what nightmare I'd be paired up with.
"Here's one! Valerie Lawrence. She's an excellent student and has currently tutor someone else. Got B+ if I'm not mistaken." He pointed over to a short and slim girl who was now watching me like a prey.
Although she didn't seem so bad, I couldn't concentrate on my study if she would flirt with me like this.
"I'm sorry but it would be great if my tutor is a guy." I told him and he nodded.
His eyes went back to the paper and scanned on the boy's names and his face lit up. "Jim Rivers. He's the best student in Math I've had in a long time. I have no doubts he'll help you get your grade up so you can continue to play."
"Continue to play? What do you mean?" I frowned. What does he mean? I couldn't play football if I fail in my grades?
"I'm sorry to say this, Tyler, but I've talked to Coach Lee and he demanded to get your grades passed or you'll be benched for the rest of the season.
"What? He can't do that! You can't do that! I need to play so I can get scouted!" I replied, irritably.
"I know that, Tyler. That's why I'm helping you."
"Fine. Whatever. Thanks for the help, anyway. So, Jim Rivers it is!" I said and grabbed my backpack. Just as I was about to walk out of the door, Mr. Clark called me back.
"Tyler, wait!" I groaned and turned back around. What does he want now?
"Forgive me for the intrusion, but Chris told me you're failing in three subjects." What? Does Chris even know about the word ‘confidential'?
"So?" I shrugged.
"Well, in my opinion, it would be much easier to find one student that can tutor you in all instead of getting three tutors. Don't you agree?"
I sighed and pulled my backpack further up my shoulder. "I guess, so." I didn't have time for this. I still have to talk to Maxine about her going to the competition.
"In that case, I might offer you someone else." I looked back at Jim Rivers. He looked smart and surely we could get along. He had to be good at more than Math and World History.
"Who are you talking about?" I asked impatiently as I tapped my shoes on the floor.
"Stella Hemmings." My whole body froze. Did he just say Stella the nerd? Oh shit, no!
"No." I said bluntly. I do not want to be tutored by Stella Hemmings, not unless I wanted social suicide.
"Why not?" Mr. Clark looked confused and furrowed eyebrows. How could he not know why I didn't want to be tutored by her? Barely anyone did.
"I told you, I'm more comfortable with a guy. You know majority of girls here in school chase after me because I'm famous, rich—"
"I know that, Tyler. But Stella is different." He chuckled and tucked his pencil behind his ear. "I can assure you, she is sweet, lovely and the perfect person for your situation." Perfect? More like the worst nightmare.
"What's wrong with Jim Rivers?"
"Jim is a very smart guy indeed, but he only has a B average in Math and World History and I'm sure it would be better to have a student who is exceedingly high in all subjects to make your tutoring sessions the most efficient."
He paused for a while and I was left thinking.
"Stella has gotten straight A's throughout all her high school career." Of course she had to study hard. If not, then her scholarship would be taken away from her.
Do I really want Stella the nerd, the girl I used to bully, to tutor me? But from the look on Mr. Clark's face, it seemed like I had no choice.
"Fine, I'll take it." we would have to set up some rules. The last thing I wanted was to be seen with her. And I don't want Maxine to know about this. She's the jealous type of girl but with Stella's looks, I don't know if she will feel insecure with the cute nerd. Cute? Fuck, no!
Mr. Clark frowned and took the pencil out behind his ear. "Here's the thing, Tyler. Stella can be rather picky in choosing students to study."
What?
"I thought tutors did this for extra credit and they are accepting money for it?" I know that's how the system worked in tutoring.
"Stella is extraordinary bright, the smartest person in the campus if you ask me. She barely needs the extra credit. And for the payment, she's doing it for free because she wants to help students who are… not smart enough."
"What would I do, then?" I huffed. I didn't have time for this.
"Ask her."
Excuse me?
"Ask her?" I repeated. As in talk to her? No fucking way!
"It's not that difficult, Tyler. Just ask her and she'll probably consider." Fuck it, I have to actually talk to her not bully her?
"And if I don't?"
"Then I'll give you Jim, but I'm afraid you won't get the grades in three subjects to get your average up to where you need it to be and the worst, you can't play football."
I have to do this, for my future, right?
I was drowned in a beautiful dream when I heard someone banging at my door loudly. "Stella!" Debra, my step sister shouted, her palm repeatedly slamming at the wooden door of my room. "Stella, wake up! You have to iron my clothes! I'm going to be late for school!"I yawned, taking time to stretch my limbs before I set my foot on the ground and walked slowly towards the door. When I opened it, I was met by Debra's frowning face and knitted eyebrows."What took you so long to open your door! Didn't you hear me?" she yelled, her index finger pointed at my forehead.I swat her hand away and she gasped. "Mommy!" She then called for Aunt Lucy. "You're fucking dead, bitch!" she smirked and once again called for my stepmother. "Mommy!""Debra, what's your problem shouting at five in the morning! Everyone is still sleeping!" Aunt Lucy yelled back, irritably. Her eyes, half-open, her hair messy and a half –dry saliva was seen from the corner of her lips down to her chin. Gross!"Stella, she hit
Tyler Lewis was inside the black convertible car. He was the most popular guy in school, a heartthrob. Tall and handsome with a beautiful and lean muscular body that countless girls admired him and sought for his attention. He walked with confidence and grace. I liked him, too. And at the same time, I hate him because he was a spoiled snobby kid born with a silver spoon who thought he could do anything he wanted and bully whoever he wanted because his family was rich.He parked his car at the parking area and went out, with his black backpack slung over his shoulder. He looked so fresh with his dark brown hair glistening, obviously wet from the shower. He didn't remove the dark shades that covered his deep azure eyes making him more handsome as he walked down the hallway and was greeted by his best friends Justin Miller and Kevin Torres. The three of them were inseparable since pre-school, and they played together in the football team.I continued walking in the lobby and turned the o
I watched Debra as she swiftly ran outside the room following the boy who called her. "It was Stella who started all of this."Debra's brows furrowed. "That bitch!"How could Dave say I was the one who started it when they were the one who blocked my way and stopped me from walking. I spun around and left when I saw Mr. Twain coming their way. "Miss Hemmings!" he yelled and I made a halt thinking I was the one he was referring to but when I looked up, he was looking directly at Debra. "What are you doing here? Go back inside the classroom, now! And you!" he pointed at the boys angrily who had just foug
"Miss, you drop your pen." A short guy told me, handing me my pen.I gave him a small smile. "Thank you…" I said as I snatched the pen in a hurry but before I could take a step to leave, a voice stopped me."Hey, nerd!" Tyler called, referring to me, who else.I turned around and I was shocked because he was too close that our faces almost collided. I could smell his scent, a combination of soap and cologne, and the warmness of his body vibrated through me, like a current. I had never been this close to him ever, and the feeling was so electrifying.I stepped back but he grabbed my arm stopping me from moving. "What are you doing here?" he asked. "Still checking if you're on the list of who's hot?" he smirked, his dark eyes were sharp and assessing, holding my eyes still. But I could not continue looking at him—his stares and nearness made my knees so weak. It would be embarrassing if I fell down at his feet. "Dream on, nerd!"He released my arm and pushed me making me stumble back a
"Are you going to have your lunch in the cafeteria?" Valerie Lawrence, one of my classmates walked with me. She's short, pale complexion, slim and blonde. She was one of the nerds in school but she's not wearing thick eyeglasses like me. She was just smart and she loved books and books only."I'll just buy myself some food." I answered shortly and continued walking until I reached the long line to the counter."Can I eat with you?" she asked again and I just shrugged my shoulders. As I waited for the queue to move, I heard laughter from the table near me and I didn't need to turn my head and check on them to know who they are because I knew very well that it was Mark's gang and my stepsister Debra's friends who were in there, laughing out loud like they owned the place.Valerie who was standing behind me poked my shoulder. "I saw your name on the list." She told me, probably talking about the list of who's hot and who's not. "You were at third place and I was second. Congrats to us!"
"Class, listen! We have a new transferee student here, so please be good to him." Mr. Twain announced in front of the class holding a piece of paper, probably the new student's profile and information. "Mr. Reid, please introduce yourself."My eyes narrowed when the guy Mr. Twain called entered the room confidently. His eyes framed with a thick rimmed glasses roamed around the room and he bowed and slightly smile when he met mine. He was the guy in the halls, yesterday. The guy who wanted to be my friend."Good morning. I'm Vince, 17." He shortly introduced himself, making the whole class fell in silence. But I heard Violet whispered "another nerd" to Debra and I saw them looked at my way with a scorn face."What school are you from, Vince?" Mr. Twain asked."Manchester Academy."The young teacher nodded. "Okay, take a seat beside Miss Hemmings." He pointed at my direction, but Debra's in front of me and the seat next to her was also vacant so I assumed she's the "Miss Hemmings" Mr. T

I answered. "Let's go home?" I asked and placed my arm on her shoulder."Yeah, sure." She smiled as she wrapped her arm around my waist and we walked into the parking area to where my car was parked.I dropped Maxine in front of their house before I went home.
